Thank you so much for this video dude. I was absolutely losing my mind. Trying to figure out what was wrong with this darn vacuum! Turns out it both needed the filter cleaned, and the belt needed to be replaced! You saved me a heck of a lot of money❤❤❤
Best video I've seen on many home DYI repairs. Our Bissell just dead stopped. Broken wire exactly as in this video. Soldered up and runs again. The detail how all that parts disassemble is a huge help.
I’m also collecting vacuums I found at streets and fixing them 😅 what I like most is figured out the history behind the old owners of the vacuums seeing the trash in them, cool to see I’m not the only one
You have saved my sanity. I tore my vacuum apart because it kept kicking up dust when turned on (we stupidly used it to clean up plaster filth) and I couldn't find where the two rectangle filters went. I have been searching for nearly an hour for my model being torn apart so I could find it. Naturally it came off in one of the first steps so I had to disassemble the whole thing again, but at least the filters are in their proper place again. Thank you!
This is a really great video, as I have a couple of factory refurb Bissels where replacement motors are unobtainium - and one is absurdly loud. I may need to get into there. And for those watching, there have been several PC cleaning videos lately on other channels, where when compressed air was forced through the case fans, the fans spun so quickly that the motors burned up. I had no idea. So, it might be a good idea to not allow motors to spin too quickly when cleaning.
Nice teardown of the Bissel Power Force Helex. I garbage-picked two of these. Both were in pretty good condition, nowhere as dirty as yours. One actually has the two attachments. Free is great.
Amazing how my Bissell Powerforce Helix Turbo model 68C71 looks the same on the insides. The powerhead is exactly the same design and plugs up ocassionally. It must be taken apart to clear out the rug pieces, hair and dirt debris. The tower part has plenty of filtering and must be cleaned out with soap and water on the foam filters and let dry every time unlike the ones you got there Brad which someone never did. Amazing how the motor housing was so dirty. My filtering set up is designed differently in the tower section so that doesn't happen. Great job showing it working again Brad.
i have been using the shark machine for about 5 years now. i am impressed with their machine. i do have a bissell carpet shampoo machine it does a good job but i think it is a bit fragile , and could be built a bit better , thumbs up for the Fixologist
Crazy! I _just did_ finish the cleaning of my Bissell Powerforce! Nasty dusty dirty, I used a small car detailing brush to dig into the grooves behind the cannister. The filters were washable too. I think the *bag* type are a better cleaner design.
As a fellow human I am concerned about your lungs and urge you to wear a mask when dealing with these bacteria laden machines.Who knows what might be residing in those dust particles. Love the video and the insight it brings, we do need to learn more about the appliances we use, and it it begins with understanding how they work. Great sentiments, and the musical interlude didn't go un-noticed nor did the beautiful salvaged rug.
i hate the noise of a vacuum cleaner. i do have a carpet sweeper which isnt the same, but its nice and quiet and picks up a lot of dirt. this video reminded me i need to clean it out.
Reminds of some people that treat their vehicles the same way, never check the tires or fluids. They just put gas in and go. And then complain to high heaven 😜
I know it was long but it was very informative. I have a Hoover and a Dyson. There’s a burning smell with the Hoover after changing the belt. Now I know what to do to for maintenance. I cleaned filter while listening and using some of your tips before deciding to discard. Thanks for sharing
I was shocked that so many people just run them until they break and throw them away. Don’t clean the Brushroll or Filter. It’s not that hard to do. I’m disabled and I manage to clean my vacuums after using them.
Decades ago, when I was a younger lad, I was asked to take a Rainbow Vac demo by a friend who'd get a discount on the one he was buying if I agreed. I had the demo guy come to the place where I worked which was an old print shop. The carpet in the front office was so bad that he refused to dirty his shiny new Rainbow vacuum on it.
The metal fan case usually is just pressed onto the plastic housing, often getting a flat bladed screwdriver in between the edge of the metal fan case and the plastic housing will start to pry the cover off. Once the metal cover is removed you get full access to the impeller fan for cleaning it out. The nut holding the fan on may be a reverse threaded nut, holding the belt spindle with vice grips while undoing the nut should work, and the fan will remove. The fans get clogged up like that if the vacuum has been used with the pre-motor filter not in place is someone has it out for cleaning and forgets to put it back in again, all the dirt will go straight from the cyclone separator in the dust cup into the motor fan, and the result is a clogged fan, no airflow through the fan and it overheats the motor. That overheat situation may be what caused the wire to the carbon brush holder to break, and rendered the machine unusable- probably for the best really as it would have had no suction at all in that state and would have continually tripped the thermal cutout. The pre motor filtration is pretty poor on these, just a simple sponge filter is not really going to do much for stopping fine dust penetrating it, and the exhaust filter is non user accessible so once that gets clogged its going to cause repeated overheats of the motor. Its almost as if Bissell designed it that way so the user would have to chuck it out and buy a new vacuum - built in obsolescence. Drivebelts for the brushroll often stretch out over time, getting too slack to drive the brushroll once it encounters the resistance of carpet, and the brushroll will stall out with the belt simply slipping on the motor drive spindle. You did a good job on that poor machine though, probably the most attention it's ever had in its life.
Thats what happens when you dont ever clean your filter. Im here because i just rehabbed this same vacuum that i got fromnthe garbage. I love getting free vacuums that only need cleaning.
Whoever had that blue one ran it without the pre-motor filters, there's no other way for that much stuff to get into the motor and post motor filters. Those black strips of post motor filter normally wouldn't clog up, since they should only be seeing carbon dust from the motor and a small amount of fine dust.
Ours just did a high pitched sound I cleaned filters but like you said the motor is with the second filter smh. Not happening . Imma just upgrade the damn vacuum smh.
I just saw your video….my vacuum (2191 model) is making a super high sound that I can not figure out. Already cleaned the filters and changed the belt and roller. Can you recommend anything?? Thanks
Tear it apart like I did down to the motor level. See if the motor impeller is clogged. Probably something stuck in there, or just covered in too much debris. Might also need to be oiled.
Would it be practical to build a portable metal box for your air compressor to cover it incase it were to explode so shards don't go flying everywhere and hurt you or someone.
I've used plenty of different vacuums ranging from this cheapo to the thousand dollar rainbow, and this 50 dollar vacuum sucks better than any I have ever used. I honestly thought at one point that the foam beneath my carpet had rotted and was being sucked through my carpet because of the amount of dirt this one was still pulling up after having already used my then favorite vacuum hah (foam was still intact)
@@Dirtytats1 No those sound like bad brushes or the commutator is just still dirty from carbon dust (cleans off with a wet paper towel usually but GENTLY WIPE to not get paper pieces inside the motor) otherwise they sell commutator cleaning tools
Halfway through your video, watching you wash the filters. FYI if you don't want to use so much water, just stick them in a bucket of nice soapy water, squeeze the Living daylights out of them, soap 'em up again, rinse.' em, then Place clean filter in front of your a/c - heat vent in your house to dry them quickly Now. Gonna try to tackle the problem of no suction in the old filthy vacuum I found. After a thorough washing of the top part and the collection bin, separator and filter, it still has no suction. I even washed out the hose, but to no avail. So, back to your video to see what I can learn Edit... well, it looks like it's more than I can bite off into. I probably have inherited the same clogged motor parts that you found when you took it apart, and I'm just not capable of doing things like that. Unfortunately when I take things apart, I could never get them back together LOL so, I still have no section then we'll probably just throw away my machine. It only cost about $56 and it would not be worth it for me to get it serviced by a professional. Thank your figure video I wish I could have learned more, and had the confidence to do what you showed. So thank you anyway
The sparks from where the brushes are they shouldn’t be their while running been there all the time means it needs new brushes as it’s worn down to the spring and the spring is rubbing the armature you should only see sparks from the brushes on start up
I have the power force Helix by Bissell and I have two of them sitting right here in front of me and they're both pieces of garbage. This has given me a sudden urge to take a look at my vacuum 😂. These fix it videos have been great. Thoroughly enjoying them!
Thanks dude my shit works again now🤣 also this is the most wholesome dude helping people out video I’ve ever seen
makes you an idiot

deep cleaned mine just now and forgot where that small circle filter went! thanks!
Brad, I found myself holding my breath watching you beat that filter. Ugghh.

I'm coughing just watching this
Good eye spotting the broken wire on the brush. If only you had a vacuum to suck all of the crud out of the impeller... ;)
Brad just killed the grass under his fence.
Wow that was caked! If this doesn't make people wanna clean theirs out too idk what will
I know, right?
I was shocked that so many people just run them until they break and throw them away. Don’t clean the Brushroll or Filter. It’s not that hard to do. I’m disabled and I manage to clean my vacuums after using them.
Thoroughly informative and enlightening Brad thanks for the content.
I need to go look at my vacuum.

LOL I used to have an old rainbow vac like 20 years ago..and it was 15-20 years old then lol.
I prefer bag type vacuuums, change the bag, done. The only design flaw was the owners.
I agree. I'll use a very old Kirby or Hoover instead of a Bissell Powerforce Helix
Nice one Brad, long live my Henry hoover.
That was fun thanks for pushing record :)
This is why Dyson's are actually worth it, very interesting engineering and much more healthy. Check them out!
My wife has a Dyson and I HATE that thing. The design of the wand is the worst POS I've ever laid hands on.

I need to clean the intake that spans the height of the machine-the part that says Helix Technology.
I need to clean the motor on mine! I never thought about doing that!
I can't even talk about my vacuuming issues lol
I'm gonna talk about them. Ok?
Thats what happens when you dont ever clean your filter. Im here because i just rehabbed this same vacuum that i got fromnthe garbage. I love getting free vacuums that only need cleaning.
Great video, very helpful thanks
Glad it helped.

Ok but wait, you’re supposed to take these down to the motor in order to find all the filters that need to be cleaned???
1:14 I'm looking for the way to take apart that interior turbine for cleaning.
Ours just did a high pitched sound I cleaned filters but like you said the motor is with the second filter smh. Not happening . Imma just upgrade the damn vacuum smh.

Is that the new rug?
Sharks are my number one vacuum to dumpster dive or actually just pick up on the street. The powerforce
Is so lightweight. Its goingnto the cabin.
I think somebody ran a Bissell vacuum with no filter. That’s how the dirt went into the motor impeller
how long should you wait for filters to dry before using?
Put them in front of a running fan for 12 hours or wait a full day.
Just cleaned my shark vacuum filter, thanks.
The impeler nut is reverse thread.
Cat litter dust did my motor in😢 same make and model
I always clean my filters
Ty so much 😊
You’re welcome 😊
😂 funny n realistic on this video thank you
Glad you enjoyed
VacLab has the same vacuum cleaner
great job Brad now that vacuum cleaner totally sucks! 😁
33:51 those are from the carbon brushes messing up the commutator
Are they supposed to spark because my vacuum has been getting very loud even after a good cleaning?
@@Dirtytats1 No those sound like bad brushes or the commutator is just still dirty from carbon dust (cleans off with a wet paper towel usually but GENTLY WIPE to not get paper pieces inside the motor) otherwise they sell commutator cleaning tools
Brad I hope you are wearing a mask! You are even choking me just watching you knocking all that filthy crap out of those filters!
How do I replace belt/
I keep straight and curved forceps in various sizes, to clean out things like that 45:00
Nice music in this one.

We take our vacuum apart all the time. With 2 dogs we have to clean it.
I've tried to fix a few of these up, but I was never successful, no way to even save the motor out of these,it's all part of the frame right.
🤣👍🇺🇲

isnt just the amperage the only real diff in suck machines?.....
Dire Straits - Hoover Mover! 👍
Commercial every 5 minutes. I hope YT is paying you the big bucks.
I wish you could get to the point as much as you like to talk about other people because this video is way longer than it had to be. Just do it.
I have the power force Helix by Bissell and I have two of them sitting right here in front of me and they're both pieces of garbage. My brushes will not turn the ends are supposed to spin around and they're not spinning around I'm going to have to throw both of them in the garbage and the other one is less than a year old it's a piece of crap I will never buy this vacuum again!!
Creating suction is a dirty job.
This might be one of those times you want to use a mask.
They have legitimate uses. This would be one of those.
HEPA Cakes 🤢
Eww Brad. I really like your videos, but this one is nauseating. I'll still finish it though.
