What a treat to see this mini drama play out in such an entertaining fashion- Annie Lennox has great taste in her costars and the costumes and acting are superb.
Ask me and Most of the truely great artists in music are british. Annie, Freddie, Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, Elton John, and list goes on and on and on.
Annie is so skilled in putting words to emotions that involve rejection, desperation, and utter depression. And she uses fabulous analogies in her songs. She is brilliant.
I discovered this song was I was 13 yrs old and even back then I was profoundly affected my Annie's lyrics , vocals and Attitude. She portrayed pieces of herself artistically so raw so real and so unapologetically that it gave me permission to open the door to my own self discovery. Many thanks Annie 🌻
OMG I remember hearing this one back in the day but never saw the official video! It's great! To have grown up on Annie's songs, in the 80s & 90s, was a privilege. Wishful thinking but Annie should have a cameo in Interview With The Vampire! She looks regal, dangerous and insanely beautiful all at once! And she can sing! Maybe Lestat's mum or something?
+Todd Hiser What if she blew up a childrens hospital, would she still do no wrong in your eyes or is she good? We can't let Annie Lennox play some mad god & get away with it.

This is the video that ALWAYS has made we wish she'd tried an acting career, BECAUSE she's SO theatrical. And if she held her own against BOTH Hugh Laurie AND John Malkovich, I'm sorry, but that means you can ACCCCCCCT. She's UTTERLY FABULOUS. She'd SLAY any role given to her.
If you look at artists who did both acting and singing, almost all of them started as actors. Actors are entertainers, so switching to a different kind of entertainment comes easy to them. For a musician, it is different.
I am flipping toasted and was not prepared for that ultra nostalgic improv solo dance sesh this pumped me up into. I just danced like I used to when this hit the radio when I was a kid. Thank You, Annie.
Holy cow-I never knew John Malkovich was in a music video, or more notably, an Annie Lennox music video! I've loved both of these two performers for some time, and now I've found them both together in a rather comical music video. This is so awesome! 😁😎😍
I was so distracted by Hugh Laurie that I didn't even notice. (Hugh has the advantage of having dressed like this for a season of Blackadder - I'm already used to seeing him in this context.)
Absolutely fantastic video, and fantastic song. Been listening to it for 20 years, still not tired of it. The director did a fantastic job. I love the way he coordinated the music with the footage cuts around 1:02
This is music. Her singing. The instrumental. The put together. The emotion. It's just allll so well done and timeless. They don't make em like this any more. Annie Lennox one of a kind and up there with the best of the best 💜
This is not just another music video, it's a movie, with a full story and superb performances! I mean, it has John Malkovich and Hughie Laurie! It's fun, it's emotional, together with a perfect song! Can't get enough after all these years. Annie Lennox is brilliant!
@LJGSG in John Malkovich's defense, he clearly broke up with her, because she kept wearing her red bath towel on her head to parties and social events.
Even John Malkovich couldn't hold back a smile at the very end. I don't know how they got through making the video without everyone busting up laughing at Annie and Hugh's facial expressions.
The rapid cutting makes me wonder if the editors ended up with a whole lot of interrupted takes and had to grab small bits from each one because nobody could make it through a scene without laughing.
My dad passed away just five weeks before this song hit the top 40 in Oct, 1992 and the song makes me think of him as his life seemed like he was walking on broken glass a lot, especially after him and mom split some years earlier. This is an excellent song. They still made good music in the early 1990s.
Every time I watch this I feel like I have just finished watching a complete full length feature film! So much is packed into one song's music video. Love it!
I LIVE for how over dramatic Annie Lennox is in this video! Yes girl, get yourself some Malkovich! Drunk, making a scene and wearing a blood red turban... 2:40 is such a mood.
This is one of the greatest videos ever, it pays homage to the characters played by the amazing John Malkovich ( the suave Sebastian Valmont in Dangerous Liaisons (1988)) and the formidable Hugh Laurie - ( the bumbling Prince Regent in Black Adder III (1988)). These two actors portray the personalities of the characters they played, which were incidentally both set in the late eighteenth century hence the costumes donned by the players in the video. Finally, the cherry on top is the incredible acting skills and vocals of the mesmerizing Annie Lennox. This video is a work of art, with splendid composition, arrangement, costumes, timing, cinematography, art direction, and of course bears repeating the vocals of Annie Lennox!!!!
It's a Lyrical and Visceral Story she's sharing about her most intimate and raw emotions she feels towards her lover. Her great love that tears at her soul despite her best efforts to reason with herself about the reasons for being the lover that loses and suffers the greater loss. She's writing the narrative but singing her experience in the emotions. She knows she made mistakes but one more night alone without the one she craves she needs takes another cut to her soul too deep. She will abandon all sense and sensibility if she can just regain what she feels she can not live without. Her Pride is not hidden but neither is her Pain. So don't diminish her voice it sings her truth.
This music video, even after all these years, is the epitome of art. Annie Lennox knew where it was at!!! Hugh Laurie (House, aka. my absolute favorite!. John Malkovich, Laurie and Lennox in the same video?....absolute heaven!
Just love this video- the scorned woman. So angry, so jealous, so desperate. SHES CRAWLING ON THE FLOOR she wants him so bad but is rejected. THEN SHE heads down that long staircase and jumps into his arms. A happy ending…. Even if it might all be in her mind. Emotion emotion EMOTION!!!!

For real, I've been trying to find a one hour loop. How do you loop it??

Dude, Annie kills this performance.
This video is my favorite of her singing and acting!
HOoo..... YEAHH!.... Hoooo! ..... YEAHH!....
10 fold she does! This stirs up so many emotions
Dude, no kidding Einstein
She is so under rated. One of the greatest singers of all time. She is an authentic person.
This song is absolute genius & was never given anywhere near the credit that it deserves. Everything about it is brilliant.
What a treat to see this mini drama play out in such an entertaining fashion- Annie Lennox has great taste in her costars and the costumes and acting are superb.
She creats the best melody's in my opinion, #AnnieLennox, you're a fucking wonder of this planet
Ask me and Most of the truely great artists in music are british. Annie, Freddie, Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, Elton John, and list goes on and on and on.
Any singer who can get both John Malkovich and Hugh Laurie in her music video is a legend
I *knew* I recognized him! can't believe it's John Malkovich lmao
Yes, she is! Real music fans be saying 'Mariah who'? Great voice! Great talent!
Thank you! I thought I was watching Blackadder and had to know it was him!
It's perfect, I love it. Though Hugh Laurie would win by a landslide compared to Malkovich for me personally, and both are spectacular actors.
I THOUGHT that was Hugh!
Annie is so skilled in putting words to emotions that involve rejection, desperation, and utter depression. And she uses fabulous analogies in her songs. She is brilliant.
An artist who was way ahead of her time. Love and compassion in a world that sorely lacks such quantities.😊

I agree totally untrue
It's just worth discovering songs that aren't necessarily crowd favorites to discover some true gems
Her voice is amazing.. Xxxxx

Annie can do no wrong in my eyes. What a wonderfully talented lady!
I just have to sing when i hear her❤️ One of the absolute best❤️
+Todd Hiser What if she blew up a childrens hospital, would she still do no wrong in your eyes or is she good? We can't let Annie Lennox play some mad god & get away with it.
Todd I say the same thing about ppl I love lol
+Todd Hiser thanks for your service ,
Nowadays she has troubles with the higher notes and falsettos are a no-go now for her. Live at least.
Haha Hugh Laurie's "she's had a little too much wine" gesture. Great vid.
yeah!how cute was that?!

Oh my God I still love this song in 2021 jamming and slamming
I am kooooooooooool 👍💯♥️✌️

Voice of an angel....😊
Annie Lennox was a pioneer in the field of music. Her unique voice, style and fearlessness is awesome! I would love to hear some new music from her!
I agree she was and is a powerful , fearless , awesome and talented person , the vocal range is staggering ,and a great visualiser .
I’m surprised Annie Lennox never went into acting. I think she would make an awesome actor.
She did. In a movie with Al Pacino. Revolution, it's called.
Actress*
You know what's fun about interpretation? There's no wrong to it. Like an artist could tell you the meaning but a listener is just gonna be like oh. I just made it suite my own tastes, & I'm just not & stuff. Or all the other listeners. Anyway, w/ out this video, I'm sure most must think to be fragile, & not what on eggshells for the easily triggered. Only I'm twisted anyway. And I this video, she's apparently a queen... & Ppl should act according to a queen & tread lightly, u know? Even tho she's singing to a king. Or wever but 🔝🔜↩️↪️⤵️🔃🔄🔙🔚🔛↔️↕️↖️⬅️⬇️↘️➡️↩️⬆️, & that comment section, I'm sure is how the world works in general 😁. I'm just bored 🙁
I agree. First time I ever felt sorry for John Malkovich.
@@Keep_Crying_Son you either act or you dont. If you do its called acting. Being an actor. the *dress crap is stupid we dont call female painters paintress do we.
Couldn't agree more
Go....act
....have fun....life is short....
Still alive, it could happen
If you look at artists who did both acting and singing, almost all of them started as actors. Actors are entertainers, so switching to a different kind of entertainment comes easy to them. For a musician, it is different.
yes!!!!
Annie Lennox can do no wrong in my book 🎙️🎙️🎙️
I am flipping toasted and was not prepared for that ultra nostalgic improv solo dance sesh this pumped me up into. I just danced like I used to when this hit the radio when I was a kid. Thank You, Annie.
Female vocalist that can flat out blow. Her stage persona is all first class. She is a remarkable talented
Aaron Chambers Castrati are well known to have better voices than female vocalists. Which is why ‘they’ can blow as you call it. The irony.
One of the best voices I've ever heard and probably will hear, until I reach heaven.
Susanna Hoffs, my friend, is an Angel too.
Holy cow-I never knew John Malkovich was in a music video, or more notably, an Annie Lennox music video! I've loved both of these two performers for some time, and now I've found them both together in a rather comical music video. This is so awesome! 😁😎😍
@gNome_5 and Hugh Laurie, MD House?he's the best performer in this video!
This is the lost art of the music video.
I was so distracted by Hugh Laurie that I didn't even notice. (Hugh has the advantage of having dressed like this for a season of Blackadder - I'm already used to seeing him in this context.)
Hugh Laurie, John Malkovich and the incredible voice of Annie Lennox... Amazing!

Absolutely fantastic video, and fantastic song. Been listening to it for 20 years, still not tired of it.
The director did a fantastic job. I love the way he coordinated the music with the footage cuts around 1:02
and the cast majestically directed, and the visual art direction. We seldon see things like this one nowadays
me too still not tierd of it
This song has staying power even 30 years later. Annie Lennox is music royalty.
What a great comment!!
I truly admire this woman's artistry. She is a vocal paradox. Everything she puts a lyrics too takes on a life of its own.
This is ONE of the best songs of all time.
One of the best music videos ever made. Annie Lennox is just superb!
This is music. Her singing. The instrumental. The put together. The emotion. It's just allll so well done and timeless. They don't make em like this any more. Annie Lennox one of a kind and up there with the best of the best 💜
Todays kids don't understand what a legendary performer Annie is and was ???
Yes we do😂
We do!
@@Cairo198 🤣
Even John Malkovich couldn't hold back a smile at the very end. I don't know how they got through making the video without everyone busting up laughing at Annie and Hugh's facial expressions.
The rapid cutting makes me wonder if the editors ended up with a whole lot of interrupted takes and had to grab small bits from each one because nobody could make it through a scene without laughing.
Especially the way she has to blow that stank 💋 off her neck.😂

It’s weird seeing High being a pushover. Lol
@@melanniebaedor6507 You should see him in the Blackadder series. It's so funny, he's an absolute chump.
My dad passed away just five weeks before this song hit the top 40 in Oct, 1992 and the song makes me think of him as his life seemed like he was walking on broken glass a lot, especially after him and mom split some years earlier.
This is an excellent song. They still made good music in the early 1990s.
Some songs remind us some goods persons, or goods moments, in our life.
he was flawed but you were his perfect creation. bless his soul.

Very Amadeus vibes.
ikr...this is just beautiful art.
@@simplicitylost And even more Dangerous Liaisons. John Malkovich was in it too!

Yes yes me too😊🎉🎉❤
I LIVE for how over dramatic Annie Lennox is in this video! Yes girl, get yourself some Malkovich!
Drunk, making a scene and wearing a blood red turban... 2:40 is such a mood.
Indeed!!!
I don't understand why I'm so fascinated to see John Malcovich in this video.. 😄❤
Could've been a Dangerous Liaisons reference in the video or song but who knows.
My girl Annie! I loved this song as a kid, listening with my mom in the car. What a kick ass video with some awesome actors!
Me too and love Annie music for sure
I LOVE THIS! Wish they still put this much effort into music videos
STYLE!
Yes ✌️
This is a Fabulous video!! - ‘Blackadder’ meets ‘Dangerous Liaisons’. Annie Lennox, Hugh Laurie and John Malkovich knock it out of the park here.
Annie would have Oscars if she went that route. Easily.
How's possible Annie never became actress? Shes soooo good on this video!
Excellent question!
Maybe Hollywood was too worried about their image at the time since she was a huge gay supporter, or she just cared more about music and nothing else.
Annie never gets tired of these theatrical music videos...and neither do I. :)
nagwagi2000 you're not the only one ;)
Absolute masterpiece. Good job Ms. Lennox, be proud of what you did here.

"you were the sweetest thing that I ever knew
but I don't care for sugar honey if I can't have you" ....beautiful
Annie she is the best singer all the world
My Lord what a beautiful voice Annie has I love to hear her😊😊😊

Just love this video- the scorned woman. So angry, so jealous, so desperate. SHES CRAWLING ON THE FLOOR she wants him so bad but is rejected. THEN SHE heads down that long staircase and jumps into his arms. A happy ending…. Even if it might all be in her mind.
