I don't think anyone has done a better rendition of this song than her. Cher's voice is powerful and unique! this is just amazing.

@@PoppedAndFlopped Sorry, but I have to disagree with you. Marcs is a little richer, a little more playful in points to lead to the soulful and gospel sounds that created the classic.
By comparison, it feels like Cher liked the song and relies heavily on her powerful contralto to carry the song through, but it comes off as a little one-dimensional in comparison. She's still very good here, but Marc's touches in places hers don't. Maybe it's because of the autobiographical nature where he's singing about what he experienced, where she's emoting what it could feel like.

I became a cher fan after hearing this in the mid 90s and think she's awesome. She has done so many good songs and how she has re-invented herself over time, hard to think she's been singing for nearly 7 decades

This is one of the most sublime songs ever written, and Cher grasps why and absolutely nails it. Marc Cohn must be be smiling, in spite of his perfect rendition of the song.
