He checked back one day and thought: Oh shit. Hersha is gonna get flaked bad. So to protect Hersha, he arranged to meet her in real life as a means of "damage control" and to reduce the heat on someone he seemingly roasted for "casual comedic entertainment".
Yeah she did use a recipe given to her by the BBC and they should have researched the traditional way first. But it does reflect on how many people in Europe cook rice like it's pasta. I've actually been taught that way and I'm so embarassed for it haha
Maybe people do it that way because that's the way to do it. It even says so on the packages. You do realize the rice imported in Europe is rice that you don't have to pre-wash right? You boil it and strain it to get rid of the starch because you didn't wash it prior and to stop the cooking. Nobody has a rice cooker. The rice is sticky if you don't do it. The rice will break apart again when you stir it. She's not doing anything wrong actually and Roger (Nigel) knows that. And nobody really cooks with rice in Europe, it's just side dish twice a year and usually served plain or maybe pilaf style with peas or something like that. That's why all of these rice videos are the way they are.

Hersha Patel added a bit of some crushed garlic and ginger in her "British" egg fried rice based on BBC's recipe that she just executed. So, I guess that counts as some flavor.

She's not a chef nor a professional cook, but she cooks well, and most especially Indian cuisine. I guess every culture around the world cooks their rice and makes egg fried rice differently. As a Filipino and an Asian, even we here in the Philippines cook our rice and make garlic fried rice slightly different depending on region to region, community to community, ethnicity to ethnicity, household to household, and even person to person. Also, Filipinos are more into garlic fried rice or just simple fried rice cooked with vegetable oil on pan or wok, and not really much into egg fried rice or its other fancier versions. ✌😊

No idea if its true or not but that rice is definitely high grade ones unlike those with tons of toxic bug spray rice. Wash the rice before cooking so that it wont stick unto the rice. Its like you cook the rice in dirty water.
That is a lot of Bull. As I grew up it was taught to me to always wash the Rice no matter what. Even if the rice packaging claims "organic pesticide" I will not take it for face value and properlt wash it before cooking. I bet that "Filipino" is also disastrous when cooking their rice.
I grew up with the finger trick with rice, but it only works with long grain. I live in Japan now and had to strain my rice when I did the finger trick :P

If you buy home brand rice in UK, Australia or US, they have cooking instructions that is same as what BBC script on cooking rice. But Asian rice brands do not carry have such cooking instructions... It was a cultural shock to me when I was a student in Australia 30years ago, and many recipes st

A UK UA-camr actually explained that is how they cook rice so ya the draining and washing is quite normal for them.
