Mitsubishi hasn't been doing so well in the enthusiast market in recent years. With the Mitusubishi Evo gone at least for now - the Evo and Eclipse always seemed to overlook one car in their lineup that rarely gets talked about. This is a Mitsubishi Starion that was LS swapped and built as a tribute car to his best friend who was in a tragic accident. I hope you all enjoy this video and thank you for stopping by!

What an amazing story about Mikey and Tanner.
Thanks for watching! What did you guys think?
Amazing content as always!
Awesome that you were driving cars in my hometown
Love the look of the starion and the conquests, they have a timeless body shape!
I’ve always liked the Starion and Conquest.
I want one now
I'm getting my car reviewed by this man if it kills me. I mean I got awhile left in my life but still life goals to get a build reviewed
What do u drive?
What's the build man? I have dreams of the same someday. ;)
what car do you have?
Lil Leslie I bet it’s his dads GTR. Just guess.
@@SMD-si7fm No it took my like a year to get and it's not the most popular thing ever. A 07 Eclipse GT with the manual is what I drive.
You're wrong about the Starion being a collaboration between Chrysler and Mitsubishi. Mitsubishi solely built the Starion/Conquest, it was only rebadged once it got imported to the U.S.. The Starquest was never apart of Diamond Star Motors which is why it's not considered a DSM. It's kind of in this weird gray area in the beginning of the their relationship. the only reason there is a conquest is because of import laws so that mitsubishi could sell more cars in the U.S..
Really cool that you finally did a Starquest review, definitely a car that is not really heard of and really unique. If it wasn't for its awful fuel delivery system it would probably be just as popular as other RWD JDM cars.
P.S. David if you read this I'm not trying to dog on you for what I'm saying, almost know one really knows anything about this car. Also it would be really cool if you were interested in reviewing a stock Starion to compare to how slow the original engine is compared to the LS swapped one. I have one in good condition that would be up for the challenge.
It was also under the Dodge and Plymouth badging depending on where it was imported to. Available with the G54b (2.6L) in the US and SOHC 4g63 (2.0) overseas, the Conquest name/ model was ONLY available in the U.S.
They had the full dsm with Chrysler in the 90s with the stealth/3000gt
@@EastPredator no they didn't only with the Talon, Eclipse, and Laser
my thoughts exactly, this is a japanese as raw sushi
I just found one in someones backyard. Looked a few weeks later now there's 2. Need love for sure
The starion has such typical, yet unique 80s styling. The Slab shape, pop ups and rear hatch are all there, yet the car still stands out.
One of the besr looking mitsubihis ever and looks kinda fc fb rx-7 and a bit of an a70,a60 supra
Also has a type of 3rd gen camaro look
Yup people confuse my car with the Starion and De Lorean.
Early RX7 mixed with the Audi Quattro of the same time period is what I see.
I like Mitsubishi pre 2000s, I have a 97 3000gt, my 22 year old beat up coupe gets tons of compliments after all that time! Timeless cars
Porsche 944ish
My dream car when I was a kid. I remember riding my bike to the local Chrysler dealership back in 1988 just to look at the widebody Tsi’s. Never did get to own one 😞
Those wheels still look sexy today
Very impressive build! I really like when the engine bay looks that good.
Cars Simplified thank you!
My First car was a 1983 Mitsubishi Starion Turbo, Manual, it was no V8 but damn it was fun at 16, slapping through gears!
I almost bought one as my first car too(it was the Chrysler tho) but I couldn't afford the insurance sadly I still really want one they're beautiful cars
Finally the Mitsubishi Starion/Chrysler conquest is finally getting more recognition
Yeah and its long overdue.
Yep the Sterion /Con.Tsi culture is growing once more.
Car is still beautiful. I drove one back in the 80s. Lots of fun.
Remember my grandpa had one and I snuck it out of the house in 89 just because I loved it so much. Didn’t even have my license yet
I have a 87 conquest tsi. These cars were ahead of their time.
I. NEED. IT.
Scooter2112x I have 2. And I’m broke now 😂😂😂
@@mksmotorsport4049 same here shit is not cheap for them but that's okay. mines under the knife I just did a stock rebuild lol but after that blows I'm going 1jz lol luckily the car it self is really clean inside and out. It was repainted Fiji blue it was originally black but that blue is amazing 😍
Scooter2112x hell yeah. My 1j car is putting down 527 and it’s fun as hell to drive!
@@boostedzx2zetec that engine is bulletproof, the only problem is the dual Tbi , do it single throttle and a homemade manifold, problem gone.
That’s pretty cool that Mikey made this a tribute build to the old owner!! I like the plaque he made and put on the intake. That’s really cool man!! All in all this is a super cool car! I’d like to see the 1JZ Starion as well.
Had an 87 station (loaded) from 94-96. Absolutely love that car. Ran into power and depression problems, I was told at the time I blew an engine cylinder , looking back it probably just needed some turbo repair. I was young and listened to possible flawed diagnosis.
🤷🏼♂️
This car is beautiful why have I never seen or heard of it 🤔 looks like an fc 😍
StevieBoy you aren’t the only one. Tons of people haven’t heard of it.
had to be a teen in the 80s
That's really what it looks like am Rx-7 and an Trans am.
I had an '86 Conquest in the early 2000s. I ended up selling it to buy a 460 for a '67 Ford Galaxie I was building. I still own and love that Galaxie but I always regretted getting rid of the Conquest. Hope someday to find another one to play with.
Very cool to see a video from TDIB about the car I bought as my first car! I’ve got an ‘88 Conquest but I just tell people it’s a Starion lol. Great video 👍
Nick Taylor I always say starion. But both of mine are. lol
Same thang just rebadge only difference is Starion had the 2.0 DOHC 4g63b, but i've heard that some of them also came with the 4g54b SOHC.
Myke Johnson the 4g they came with was also sohc
Why all the hate on Conquest. Same car different badges.
You are mistaken - when the Starion was released in 1982 - it was the fastest production car to leave the shores of Japan, with a 2.0L motor . Calling the 2.6L G54B a forklift engine is quite disrespectful, it was a fantastic engine that was highly underrated.
My friends parents bought a brand new Red Conquest TSI when they first came out and we were in love! It rippers pretty good under full boost! Lol!
Three weeks later we took a corner to fast and broke the front wheel and lower ball joint and control arm on a curb! $2500 later he never got to drive it again! I still love the way they look over the Mitsubishi!
The Starion is underrated
Saim Official facts
I actually bought one last year the last owner didn’t care about it that much I’m still working on it
Booty my brother has 2 of them and made me want one Bc they’re hard af to find here
This comment is underrated
Conquest was more.favored
The LS actually sounds perfect in this car
Watching his 1j one get built just seeing it around town was so awesome and now theres 2 badass starions driving around both owned by him 😂
Zagary hell yeah!
They look so good with light modifications!
Love how you still take time to go back to your roots and review cars even though you have a lot going on. Love the reviews 👍🏻
I've always loved the wheels on these. Stock, the Starion/Conquest had staggered wheels! This one looks like he threw rear wheels on the front too so all 4 are deep concave. It looks great!
yeah-
just makes me want one of these more.
Great vid David and an amazing story!
props to tanner....keep stayin strong brotha....
I wanted one when I was a kid. I didn't care if it was a Starion ESi or Conquest TSi, I wanted one. When I see either on the road, and they STILL have their lower front air dam, I'm shocked. Today, Mitsubishi pretty much has nothing. Killed off the Starion/Conquest, the Galant(VR4), Eclipse(don't get me started on that damned SUV), and the Evo. Sad.
Love reviews like this!! Was also legitimately surprised not knowing what this car was. It looks amazing and a stunning build!
my dad always talked about how he used to own a starion but I didn't know it was a Mitsubishi
I've always liked these cars. Such a great shape. Every time I've seen one for sale, I'm never in a place where I could pick it up. Good looking car for sure. Closest I've had to that was an 83 Celica GTS, a other great little car.
So Kool!! Awww tribute 🙏🏾 And that car brings back a lot of memories...I wanted one so bad back in the day lol. Never even thought anyone would drop an LS1 in one lol...very unique. Thanks for sharing this my brotha 🙏🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Maaaaan if you had a Conquest in that electric blue back in the day, you were the shizznittobamsnipsnap.
That blue was awesome!
Oh yeah, then the Canary Yellow was next!!!
I had one. Totaled it. I prefer white. And a real starion
Nothing like that glow in the dark "CONQUEST " logo across the back! When I had mine people in NY, people would pull up and ask what kind of car it was.
Brothers was pearl white with maroon leather interior. Badass until he spit his damn dip all over the floor
I've watched every single video you put out. this video I got to say loved more than just about all your other ones, for the simple fact that it was a tribute build for someone who had a very bad accident. I'm glad to see that this was not a car review, but I would like to see a review on this. Keep up the fantastic work you are doing great.
Robbies2 Rotten appreciate you man!
Love this! Awesome job even with all the hiccups we had filming!! 😅
SpooledUp TV I’m convinced he just liked driving it and kept blaming it on the camera! 😂😂
Awesome video! I love seeing lesser known cars done up like this. Hopefully one day you'll do my first car the Nissan pulsar.
I read about this car when I was reading car magazines as a kid lol
I know a guy that lives in my area that has a Starion its 25.3 tube chassis small tire car with a old nascar small block Chevy sb2 from Hendricks but nows its 377ci super expensive and awesome build it's got a precision promod 88 in front of it and runs on alchohol 2 speed th400 I know he revs it past 9,000 rpm and lots of alchohol and boost it makes scary but amazing sounds and all the fab work is top notch it looks damn near like a show car it's a grude car and runs alot of N/T 28 10.5 races but without completely telling his e.t's il say it runs 4's in the 1/8. He's a cool dude almost all the people in my small town that race we are all buddy's and hang out his shop all the time get free dyno time its always a good idea to have a rich friend lol iv got alot of his old stuff in my car that he calls junk but is some good shit
When i first played forza motorsport 4 the starion instantly became a dream car for me
Same AF.
I really like starions and conquests. I almost bought one before I got my Firebird.
Great content as always, thanks David 🇧🇷
I'd love me a Starion or Conquest. It originally came with the first generation 4G63T, and it made some mad power back in the day. This LS swap is wicked and nice. Great review as always, Dave.
Chalres Kirkland the states never got a 4g in them. They were all g54b cars.
I knew about the Conquest long before I did the Starion. I used to see several Conquests here where I live. A buddy even bought one and took me for a ride. He didn't have it long because the turbos weren't working. I know of the Mitsubishi Eclipse more than the Eagle Talon, but we had lots of both here where I live. Starions must of been more rare. The Conquest was sweet! It had "Turbo" in the stitching all down the seat belts.
Man, I remember back in the mid 00s I used to see a few of these 80s classics still driving around, stuff like Starions, Conquests, Shelby Daytonas, GLHs, S12s, Celica Supra MK2s, etc. Now? Very rarely.
They are making their way back around again.
I took first place in Wekfest Domestics with this car and all I did was chop the springs and paint the rims gold. If time and money wasn't a concern i woulda did so much more. Very cool underappreciated little nuggets.
I watched your build. I was bummed you sold it. It looked so good in that blue.
@@mikeley5107 I know man, the whole thing was suppose to be a joke but I had so much fun doing it and the end results were so good I felt like it needed to be redone properly. Fortunately I sold it to a Starion enthusiast, it should be in good hands. Also thanks for watching 👍
It's looks kinda old school Supra...
A mixture of Supra to a 240sx 👌😂
are you serious... lmao
Yeah, no. Not seeing it. Looks like the bastard child of an IROC Z and a Ford Probe.
You all need to go back into the Supra catalog.
Larry Lampshade it’s more of the celica Supra I was talking about
Great video David. The last time I saw a Conquest driven around was back in 2002 in the Bronx. I haven't seen either Starion or Conquest driven around on the street since then.
That build is very interesting. A little bit cursed with that LS but I love the Starquest
1996 Toyota Camry LE 4-Speed Automatic 2.2L eh. My 1jz starion is just as fun.
About three years ago I had a starion.(I had just installed a 1j in it) later i let my friend drive it and that was a huge mistake. he ended up crashing it. At that time I hadn’t have much money and I’ve never seen it since.
Starion is one of my favorite non USD cars. I will deff own one one day.
Great Video David
The Starion was driven by a guy called Colin Blower in the Production saloon car championship back in the mid 80s with great success here in the UK.
Unfortunately Colin passed away a few years ago due to Parkinsons disease.
Mitsubishi Motors UK have a heritage fleet with a widebody Starion still in their possession, you don't see many on the roads these days due to rust killing off most of them.
Great looking cars though, probably my favourite OEM wheels on any car too.
These have always been my favorite cars, my dad used to own one and it was going to be my first car but he sold it to a friend and their kid wrecked it long before I could drive. Been keeping an eye on them to buy when the time is right and they are almost IMPOSSIBLE to find.
Love the build! I remember the Conquest and it was an awesome car.
Those cars are cool my friends has two starion with the original turbo engines
The first year they came out, there were 6 in Colorado. We owned one of those six. My wasband came home with a turbo Starion out of the blue one day. He paid well over sticker price to get it. Car payments of $400 were a lot back in the early 80s. Turbo was a new thing and I have to say that it was a pleasure to drive in the mountains. The digital speedometer pegged at 85 and sometimes, over a pass, I'd look down and see 85, so wondered how fast i was actually going. Biggest complaint? It was invisible. I can't tell you how many times I dodged a near accident when someone didn't see me. Low profile? Coming in second, spinning out on ice. The wheels would hit ice and spin; the turbo seemed to think I wanted to go faster and kick in, not a great thing with rear wheel drive. The good news? Spin outs are fun once you survive. It was black and made quite an impression at the time.
Yeah the car reviews are back!
Dude love the content love how you highlight the car scene but the most important part of all about guys an how we bond with our dream cars is our reaction to something you drive an pay big money car notes for I always wanted to drive my car on a track full speed ahead
I was very sad when I learned we didn't get it here in Canada, but it does make me crave a mk2 supra again.
I have always wanted one of these but haven't gotten one yet because the "I've always one of these" list is quite long.
Love ur car reviews
Hell yes 🤟🏼 I’m planning on buying a silver one my dad had two red and one black conquest hope to get him behind the wheel of one of these again
I actually saw one of these at a car meet back in October and I didn't know the name until earlier today when I was playing fm7. Thanks for saying a bit about it, I learned something new.
My buddy Kevin had an old 87 or 88 Silver Chrysler Conquest TSI..Car was so much fun back in the early 90's...like 180hp stock, it pulled it's weight...But yes a Very JDM looking USDM.... If you can't beat em Join em...
I still wish you would find a clean 1992 Dodge Spirit rt turbo to review, even slightly modded. Fastest 4 door you could buy in early 1990s probably faster than a 5.0 mustang. Cylinder head designed with Lotus. There aren’t that many of them left but there has to be a clean one out there somewhere.
Funnily enough, I see Conquests all over my city. Never knew what they were, only knew they had the Chrysler logo on them. Nice to know what they are!
Always loved the look of the starion. Cool build.
One of my favorite cars ever. Looks amazing! I need one.
So underrated...I love it
My friend had a 1988 Conquest TSi. Very cool Japanese car. At the time I had an '88 Supra Turbo with the targa roof.
I love this car. A friend had one back in the day. I still think they are awesome.
This was the very first turbo car I ever drove back in the early 90's👌🏽
Yep me too my uncle had a 1987 Conquest turbo 5 sp flat side, and he would let us drive it, mostly me and my brother when we washed it which was like every 3 days.
Yo this must be the most cleanest starion I've ever seen
Best looking oem wheels of all time
POP UP UP AND DOWN HEADLIGHTS!
The conquest / starion has one of the most epic body lines in the world. Claim to fame? Cannonball run... Naturally that was the narrow body in the movie, but for me that was the movie that put it on the radar. Jackie Chan and Richard Kiel! You really can't get more 80's than that indeed!
Indeed very interesting car and awesome build. 👌🏾
I’ve always loved the Starion/Conquest platform. The body style is timeless to me! It’s very hard to find a clean one in my area unfortunately. I did recently pick up a 93 3000GT VR4 that’s super clean though. David if you’re ever in Utah and want to drive my all original 3000GT let me know!!
the first time i went 135 was in one of these,it was a turbo one,,but even at that speed it was rock stable,,love the shape
Saw this car reviewed before. Dope build! Only person I saw with this was my neighbor back in mid 90s. . It was red, and had small mods.
I love seeing these types of unknown cars done up or cars ppl don't think about modifying. Something rare I would love to see done up is a 1989 Isuzu i-mark rs hatch with a motor swap and slammed to the ground.
I'm showing my age but I know exactly what the Starion/Conquest is lol. Love the story and the swap. Great job!
So clean!!! Nice
I used to have an '88 Conquest with the sport handling package, God I miss that car. The passenger front frame rail rotted out and I decided it was time to get rid of it.
Did you crush it?, do you know where it is now.
My buddy has one in the racing blue with a built long block and a big turbo
Love the seatbelts that say turbo on them.
Coolest swap I've ever seen!!
Not forgotten, this and the conquest are my style 100%
Very nice car nice project and I like the tribute. Nice to see a swap done with love and care as opposed to just ruining another classic japanese sports car. My first car was an 85 Dodge Conquest which is the flat body. My second car was a yellow 89 Conquest TSI widebody, the cars were all wide-body from 86 to 89 they card improved upon everything in the 85. Both mine were very reliable. If you had owned one you probably wouldn't be so dismissive of the stock engine I can tell you everybody I ever raced in my 85 in the mid-90s I beat. Camaros Mustangs, old Corvettes, Daytona's. every single car on Broadway, especially V8s, they always have out at highway speed. the only person to give me a run for my money was a first gen Toyota Supra that had some modifications to it, everybody else I beat, and my car was stock. The group of cars to have where a Conquest TSI turbo RX-7 a turbo Toyota Supra and a turbo Nissan 300ZX these cars competed directly against each other and were very fast for the day and much more reliable than anything domestically-produced at the time. having worked on cars professionally for over a decade one could see the vast quality difference under the dashboard and under the hood but people like what they like and they're going to buy what they're going to buy regardless. The consumer reports test of this time also reflect this.
There are guys who have reliably built their Motors up to produce many hundreds of horsepower in these cars using the stock engine so it can be a good place to start.
I had one his cars are great he always does an excellent job
the Japanese wanted to call it the stallion but since the have trouble with ls and rs it got its name. starion. fact of the day
The starquest community is strong. Love the help and the people #starquestclub (Own 2 of them, one Ford 5.0 swapped)
Body style looks nice for a hotrod project
I would buy one
But i got another project already on the to do list
I bought a cheap 90 eclipse 2.0 and also a 90 talon turbo 2.0 together and
I wana make ( 2 ) rear engine trikes am waiting to find some longer than stock fork whole entire assembly to where i can connect the eclipse front entire clip ,motor trany and suspention and wheels
To make a rear engine trike or just make one of each( front engine trike )
Had an '87 ESI-R as my first car. Black leather, 5spd, turbo........what's not to love??? Wish I still had that car.
Never heard of the car but I’m in love
That tribute plaque is honestly one of the coolest things I've seen for any build
CorridorCulprit one of my better ideas! I like it. It’s subtle!
i love the Station.
A while ago there was a bone stock one in silver running around in the town i live in and i was stunned when i saw it for the first time.
i thankfully got to see it running around every once in a while but unfortunately about a year ago it just disappeared for some reason
Probably the heads went bad in it, they are notorius for blowing heads.
Amazing!!
I love the Starion/Conquest. I think they both have solid names. :P
Got a quick video of a turbo 1UZ swapped wide body Starion on my road trip.
That thing was crazy. Had a Chameleon wrap too. I want one!
Shes beautiful! Awesome job
DAVID! I'm totally surprised to see this like you said you don't see them mines an 87 and yes what you see there is the stock color and I have never seen another one with it, absolutely love the car biggest problem with them is finding parts, have to pretty much fab the stuff you need
