Yea man this is the best video on all of UA-cam about repairing rocker panels on this truck.
Wow, thanks!
Agreed!
I'm going to do my rockers on my ram and this is definitely by far the best video he doesn't leave anything out thanks for the video this helps tremendously
Nice work! On grinding the spot welds out, I use the air powered belt sander 1/2" x 18" with 80 grit 3M belts,...better depth control and less sparks.
Everyone said... "Buy a 03 Ram 5.9 Cummins, it will last forever!" Engine, yes... rockers & bed wells not so much :'(
Unfortunately so!
What type of welding equipment did you use
My trucks a Midwest truck it’s a 08but the salt took a toll on it, I’m getting new rockers, cab corners, sucks…
@@guydrusbik1347I’m gonna just tig it or mig it
My 03 cummins has 305,000 on it and still looks respectable, fuck off 😂
This is a great tutorial. The beauty of doing my 03 is its already done most of the removal itself, haha. Thanks again
Great video. Those reading the comments, remove the negative cables from your batteries before you start welding and have a fire extinguisher near by just in case.
You did a hell of a job.
Thats some real fine work you have done there ,very professional
Currently working on my '08 Cummins shipping crate. Great video 👍
Man, I wish I had the money and or Knowledge to do this. I have a 07 mega cab that I would love to keep but it is a money pit. The rockers, cab corners and upper wheel wells are toast. Awesome work! If I decide to tackle this job, I will reference your video and pick your brain for months, I am sure.
Its actual cheap and easy if you do your homework on tools And how dos ..Your basic needs will be sawzall And grinder with a cut off wheel And a drill The welder which would best suit You And the cost And the need would be a mini mig welder - $200 avg Then get some 18 gauge metal to test it out on ..plenty of videos on how to weld thin metals ..Order your parts for that truck..Find the welds on the old parts Drill them out And chisel the rest Clean up the areas with the grinder And sandpaper Get some weld thru primer .. Before you weld make sure the battery is dis conn..And you have a bucket of water around ..Its good if you have a place to work on it And up to having min a compressor for airtools
I’m a so glad I came across this video! I starting to doubt my decisions I have made on my own 2006 2500. Your inside skirt panel is where I was struggling and you made a simple but a effective replacement for that. I could send you pics of my rockers and the trim cut’s are the same. Thanks for an outstanding video for this repair.
P.S. I’ve also ran into dead ends on locating the inside skirt panel replacement.
That is a proper repair job right there!
Thanks!
Here is a guy that knows exactly what he is doing. And doing it the right way! Refreshing!!! Thanks!!!
Thanks for watching and the kind words!
Looks like it spent its life in Erie, PA...rust belt of America!
Awesome work man
Awesome work brother awesome. Thank you so much for showing how you do this. I have my 05 dodge cummins same truck. I have the same job to tackle. I rather buy the equipment to keep and have forever than pay someone 6k to do for me. Guess it's better to screw it up several times than pay another to do. Again thank you for sharing your knowledge. It doesn't really look that bad, just gotta dig in and get after it.
Thanks for the kind words! You got it, it's just work!
Those oval holes are where all the salt gets inside. Zbart used to be the way to prevent rust like that. If I lived up north, I'd be treating my NEW cars and trucks to prevent rot that like. Nice repair job!
You do fabulous work danny ☺️
Thank you 😁
Nice job , you make it look easy,
Thanks 👍
That is an outstanding job great detail thanks for showing I’m doing mine soon did not realize there was A inner panel And I needed ideas how to build the backside that was great help
No problem 👍 Thanks for watching!
@@slow_restoration where are you located how does someone reach you
Amazing job 👏👍
ya did a hell of a good job ! best on a ram i have seen so far !!
Thanks, I appreciate it!
I don’t care what anybody says about what you did it looks perfect to me and that’s exactly what I need to do
Ty for sharing your video
I have a 2010 ram 1500 and it looks similar to what you are doing hopefully not as bad but you just never know until you start doing it
Thanks for the views!
Thanks for the video. Very informative.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Danny you do some impressive body work the way it should be done. Great job those rockers look good on that truck.
Thanks 👍
@@slow_restorationwhat gage steel did you use for the back side
I believe he said 14 gauge
Damn nice work I'm definitely keeping this video. I need to do the same on my 99 best video of how to I found. 🤙 thank you sir.
Thanks for the support!
Great video. I'm about to do this to my truck.
Go for it!
If you don't mind me asking where did the rocker panels come from. Im.having a hard time finding the kind you showed for.the outer rocker
So glad I have a West Coast 2004 Dodge ram 4x4 not a spot or rust anywhere
Very rare out here! Most of these are really bad!
Fantastic video!! Getting to see the breakdown on the layers was incredibly helpful and I learned a great deal! Thank you for this video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you.
I’m in the midst of doing this too , finished the outter section , eliminated the center and had some custom bent for the inner👍
I'm getting ready to order the metal for the job, why did you eliminate the middle piece?
i was wondering about this as well about eliminating the center, how did it hold up?
So far so good..
Thank you Idk what I was gonna do for in the inner outter panel
Thank you for this!
You make this look super easy I feel like it’s more time consuming then hard to do
Thanks, definitely time consuming! Just have to have some basic metal working knowledge.
I did this to mine about 3 months ago. It was a ton of work but was totally worth it
I think the hard part is summoning up the motivation to get into it. Basic skills and taking your time to make it look nice is key.
Nice work
Thanks
great job
Nice work, Hopefully it lasts another 10 years.
Hope so!
Like the video! I want to purchase the step plyers never seen those before. Nice work , new sub.
Awesome, thank you!
I have ordered parts from Athens Dodge . They were new surplus OEM a new front differential was about $1100.00 delivered to my mechanic in NY . Body panels are also available .
Fill it with fluid film until it starts draining from the drain holes after youre done welding to prevent the rust in the future also a friend told me energize the metal before doing anything to the metal it help deionize the metal so it kinda rejects rust then spray it with a neutral based ionized clear coat and proceed with the regular paint, and clear coats they said dodge used crappy metal that in conjunction with the positive charged paint they use causes rust faster than chevy or Ford thanks to du...ont paint company not saying any specific name 😁 because of legal reasons but the lead based elctron paint isnt good
Nice job though , deffinetly a clean job
Thanks 👍
Good tutorial 👍
Thank you 👍
HOLY SHIT IT'S RUSTIER THAN MINE
It was bad!
Wow. This was an excellent video covering this repair. I honestly was shocked seeing the inner rocker panel just evaporated like that. It's amazing how bad that rust was. Great work on covering that. I know this video is old and I will subscribe and watch more, but just wondering what welder and what weld through primer you use? I kinda wonder seeing the inner panels with all the holes in them - do they have adequate drainage if salty water gets in there. I saw you addressed it with the replacement panels. I am looking at some 3rd gens and considering how much rust repair I want to get involved with. Saw one in Indiana that has some rust starting on the drivers side. Where there is rust there is more rust...
Do you still have any access to get behind or inside those rockers and or corner with fluid film spray wands? I feel like annual application for any vehicle in the rust belt is a necessity to keep these trucks from rusting into the earth. I really like fluid film and supposedly there's a new one from PB Blaster I think.
Excellent video thank you, I have the same job to do - suggest spraying interior panel with rust check over paint to deal with moisture, very effective at retarding rust, as I discovered too late
O ps I also subscribed and like your video 👍first time on your channel , not many people can say that they can do what you just did
It's hard finding a good video on replacing rocker panels. This is a very good video. Its giving me more confidence to do the rockers on my Ford focus. Where do you find those step pliers? Thanks!!!!
Thanks, I've had these for years! I've seen them on Amazon, search flanging pliers.
I really enjoy speaking more about me doing mine
What did you use to paint your frame and also how is it holding up to this day?
That very inner panel is called a floor sill panel.
Hello Jason is it available for my 2006 Dodge quadcab this floor sill panel ?? Thank you
@@josephpuchel6497 I doubt it. I’ve been looking for years for my 05 and it’s unavailable everywhere I’ve checked. The cabs are the same. It might be available if you have a single cab.
I have done a lot of this sort of work on old GM square bodies and Gen 1 Dodges... I now have a really nice '06 Megacab diesel that is showing the signs of rust in the rocker panels. Repairing it looked a bit complicated at first glance.
My question was if the doors had to be removed or not. It looks the doors would be a severe pain to remove what with a ron of wires feeding into them and all. but it looks like you did all that without removing them. Is that correct?
I am going to watch this a few more times and get what I need together for the rebuild.
Thanx so much for posting this!
Excellent work,I have the same issue on my 06 Hemi was wondering how to best do the inside and what’s guage metals, was wow hat brand of quarter panels you used
This may be too late but my truck looks like this how much did you charge to do this job ?
Hey Excellent work. Excellent video tutorial Where you located My truck needs some sheet metal work.
Awesome job . What would this cost if a local body shop did this , curious?
Great job my 2003 is looking something similar to this was just wondering how much would a job like this cost
Expensive if you have a place do it.
Where did you get the rockers at? I’m looking to do this to my Cummins but everything I find looks different to what my truck needs.
Customer supplied the parts, I know some came from LMC.
What were the dimensions on that piece of 14ga sheet metal, I'm looking to get it for my truck. Thanks
I just ran across this video. I don’t mind the talking part, but you did a hell of a job on the bottom rocker panels. I have a 2002 ram 1500 needs some work done just like that. Where are you located and how much would you charge for a job like that 👌🏼👌🏼👍🏼👍🏼???
What were the dimensions of the inner outer metal you installed
where did you order the middle panel from ??
How long did this take you to do the work in the video?
Would you do this again on a regular cab?
How long did it take start to finish?
Nice work! Where did you purchase the rockers/panels from?
Thanks, the customer supplied the parts. I think LMC.
Out of curiosity how much does a job like this cost?
What's the cost range for that kind of work
Can you provide the link for the panels from the website you got those from ?
Great video what did you spray on frame to remove rust
Pressure washed it, wire brush, then fluid film after blackening it out with paint.
Do you think you could have did the job without the middle part?
Where did u get that panels feom
Hey do you think you could link me or tell me where you got all the replacment panels im going to do the same job on the same truck and having trouble figuring out where to get all the pieces i need.
thanks,
The customer supplied the parts, I'll have to check with him.
Mill Supply Inc in Ohio I buy mines right there
Nice video I go to start mine tommorow
Where did you order the full inner and outer rockers?
Customer supplied, I think LMC though.
Where are you located, I'll drop my 2004 off. It needs the exact same work and I'm not sure my skill level is up to the task.
Nicely done. Question. Ive been looking to purchase the rocker panel pieces for my 2003 Dodge Ram. This is exactly how mine looks on both sides. Just to confirm, Id have to purchase the outer, middle and inner panels along with the corner cab? Also, do you recommend a website to purchase these panels from. Thanks. I just subscribed. Very helpful information and great channel.
Thanks! Yes, the outer and middle he bought. We couldn't find the inner to buy, I made them. The customer supplied the parts, I'm not sure where he got them. I appreciate the support!
Thanks for response. Its good to see that there is people like you that still know how to work with metal. Cheers my friend.
LMC Truck sells outer and middle, but no one sells the inner, gotta make it out of sheet metal.
@@chrisperis5300 Thanks!
Great work!! I'd pay you to do my truck, where are you located?
What type of welding equipment did you use
Miller mig welder.
Where are you located and when is your next availability?
Where did you get the panels from?
Customer supplied them. I think LMC?
Do you do this as a business? I'd be willing to pay cause i've got a truck of a similar year that needs some repairs done to it
I would like the dimensions of that fourteengage iner rocker panel. You made that would be so awesome. Cause I'm doing my mega cab 06 dodge Ram. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I don't have any, I just used the truck itself for measurement's and had a local metal shop make it. Thanks
Do you have to take off the doors ?
@@tone569 I didn't.
When welding the inner rocker cab sill that you made did you butt weld it i am having a metal fabercating shop make them
I’m about to do this on my cummins any suggestions?
Try and get as much of the rust as you can and seal it up!
Do the batteries have to be disconnected?
I didn't.
Im going to build panels out of core 10 steel.
How much does a job like this cost?
Dodge really cheaped out with the sheet metal AND anything they called a coating! Coating attracted rust rather than preventing it. Never ever again!
That and that stupid tape they put on the inner rocker holes. When I bought my 05 pieces were missing and within a year of winter the inners were rotten. I wish Dodge could build a truck to match the Cummins. I love everything about the truck except the cheap Mexican sheet metal.
I believe that they are spec’ing the sheet metal to corrode.
Hey I always go back to watch this video. If you feel like making extra money You can work on my truck.
My wheel wells are rusting on my 2010 Dodge it suckso
How much did you charge that customer to do that work? I need the same done to my truck lol
Not enough, it was a lot of work!
Looks like a 30+ year old car as far as the progression of the rust goes...
It's the mid 70's all over again with these things!
Where are you located?
Southern Pennsylvania.
Hello how much do you charge? How can I contact you?
You could have but welded the rockers on then it wouldn't need but a lite coating of filler only . That's what I would have done and I have been a body for over 21 years
Why is it not on the lift? Your gonna get old fast on the ground.
The lift arms get in the way, it's kinda a awkward spot.
@@slow_restoration Duh, I forgot about that. LOL
They are engineering vehicles to disintegrate, a half competent engineer could make it last 25 years in a Minnesota climate. When paying 60 thousand + for a truck, this is shameful. My 2014 ram has this exact same problem,,,,,, 9 years old!
What is shit crap design!😱 Nice job boss. better than new.🛠🇺🇸🛠
you should film the work. not you talking about it.
just get used doors
The doors look good...must have done them already
Not the best work for sure!
Throw that junk dodge in the scrap yard with all that rust lol. 🤣 that’s why I hate dodge rust way too much too fast.
They all rust, but some do seem to rust faster!
Yeah, but the 5.9 cummins will outlast the all!
