Show and Tell: Animatronic Raven Kit!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 тра 2019
- We meet effects artist Jasper Anderson, aka Mr. Chicken's Prop Shop, who shares with us his take on an D-I-Y animatronic raven that he's designed and produces as a kit. We take a look under the feathers of his raven and see how its array of servos work together to bring this creature to life.
Find this kit and Jasper's other projects here: www.chickenprops.com/

Without exception Norman Chan asks the absolute best questions of his guests. I hear myself saying "Good question" constantly watching his videos. I can't think of anyone better on UA-cam (or television for that matter.) Thanks for the interesting video on what looks like a fantastic kit.
Not only are they to the point, they are easy to understand for a person not versed in that specific tech field. His questions lead to answers at that same level. I'm no animatronics whiz, but I could understand about 95% of what they discussed on this!
Quoth the Raven:
Omnisprime 😂😂😂
Considering how great it looks at the end, and the work that's gone into it, it's reasonably priced. Very impressive. Would look awesome sitting up high up on a bookcase.
I don't understand why you guys removed the Auto generated closed captioning. As an hearing impaired person, I used to be able to enjoy your videos with them on, but now it seems you have removed them from all your videos except for those with added official CC's. The auto generated cc's are good enough to use while waiting for the official cc's to be uploaded for the video. If you guys don't add the auto cc's to your videos, I would have to unsubscribe as I can't enjoy the videos anymore without them.
listen to this guy!
My hearing is perfectly fine but the way I learned English by reading subtitles and listening together so it is near and dear to my heart because it helped me and thinking about the content people with less or no hearing could enjoy with subtitles but there aren't any- it is very upsetting to me. It isint even a hard problem to solve! Now with the auto generated text and they could even pay someone to edit the text-
Yes! Please add captioning back to your videos, many of your viewers require it and it's just irresponsible to remove it completely.
get hearing aids
and for non nativ english speaking persons some words are hard to understand. Especially the names of products. For exaple i would like to find these controllboards but dont know how it is written.
I've been following this guy's work for years in the Halloween haunter forums and groups. Very cool to finally see him in person. Never knew his real name. Just pictured him as Don Knott's until today 😂
Years ago I brought myself a kit version of the famous "bow shooting boy", an old Japanese animatronic of a boy who picks arrows from a quiver and shoots them at a target. If you've never heard of it you should really google it, it's completely brilliant. It operates on a single, wind-up drive shaft with a collection of cams, strings, springs and levers to control the movement. Putting it all together is utterly fascinating. I only wish there were more of these things out there.
Their is an ancient Japanese book created by a person who made the Japanese Animatronics(can't remember what they called them)
The book has the design details for many of them..
If you search for it their is a reprint available but it's not cheap.
And I guess it would help if you could read traditional Japanese.
YAY Jasper!!! Love your work :) The raven is beautiful.
Hollywood Haunter thanks!!
FTSE boom
As one of the first people to purchase one of Jasper’s raven kits, I can attest to the quality of his work. The armature is well designed, strong, and quite simple to build. Jasper did a great job putting these kits together!
Thanks!
I love it when you go into the technical finesse of machinery.
Shout out to the animatronic raven with the glowing eyes in the coffin room of The Haunted Mansion in Disneyland/Walt Disney World circa 1969. This HAD to be inspired by it (and of course all the original Disney bird animatronics like the Parrot from Pirates and The Enchanted Tiki Room).
Very cool. I like making simple animatronics using scrap hardware and servos, it seems like there aren't many guides to making animatronics online.
Thanks for the great video, I love animatronics especially when I get to see how they work.
Big fan of Mr. Chicken (Jasper), love everything I have purchased from his shop.
Saw the self healing mat thumbnail and my brain expected AvE!
I actually thought it was until it loaded
Always love the Norm episodes! I build animatronics too. Thanks for posting!
So this is what's inside the government drones lol
With some tweeking you could make a really cool parrot out of this kit as well.
You could totally have one of those on your shoulder.
What a fun presentation. As a kid I was fascinated by the rudimentary animatronics that the Minneapolis Dayton's store had at Christmas.
So awesome Jasper. We took a business of making monsters course together, glad to see it worked out lol!
I guess it did! Thanks Charlie
Way to go Jasper! Nice seeing you get some credit!
I expected an AvE vidjeeo looking at the green cutting mat in the thumbnail...
My thoughts exactly lol
Same..I was fooled.
I'm pissed off a lil 😬
Or add a flashlight and it's Juilan Illett.
@@geirkselim2697 im a bit POed
Cool. Nice design. More animatronics!
Cool, I already got the servos.
The Mini Maestro 12 servo controller is amazing im glad to see it is being used on your project. Checkout the Robotochi Automation Breakout board it has the mini maestro you are using on it included with the Arduino Nano and Dfplayer mini (Audio board). Power your Animatronics all on one board!
"Omgsh" I just go an idea.... Use the Raven animatronic as a topper for a Munsters pinball machine!
I just realized something... If I would put it on top of the pinball machine (while playing it) how would I keep it from wobbling around?
I LOVE the Pulolu boards.
I wanna see one of these say "Nevermore!"
And on a certain Edger Allen Poe book.
@@Zanzubaa On a bust of Pallas Athena, surely!
Mighty cool from top to bottom.
198 doll hairs ain't cheap, but that's totally fair! Great kit!
proceeds to pull out doll"s hair
Is it though? I'd be willing to spend... 80$ tops. I'd be okay with 120$ - if I was really crazy about these things. But 2-300$ is just friggin expensive.
@@Krageesh considering that he's making the kits at home it's reasonable. It's not mass production, and usually you'd want to cover your own costs plus a bit of earnings from sales.
I think 200 is fine too, but that doesn't get you everything you need. It's 300 for the kit that comes with servos but even then you still have to get a power supply and controller.
Excellent job👍
Love this. True. Not enough animatronics around.
great video. that Raven is awesome
I can see in the near future someone modding that into a 3 eyed raven
Commander Mormont appouved this
This is awesome.
The tail of an RC airplane also only uses two servos.
The head isn't any different here, just on a central swivel instead of independent hinges.
Curious if it keeps repeating the same movements, or is randomized. Will be looking into.
It’s great seeing Harry Potter joining Ravenclaw....good for you Harry...you’re a wizard 🧙♂️ ⚡️
Now to order the kit and bash a Porg! 😁
I made something like this out of popsicle sticks, hot glue and paper mache and a cheap black boa from the halloween store back a few years ago. I then brought it as a prop for halloween for school on a blinds hanger turned into a staff. Needless to say, I won. (I'd also made another prior out of plastic bottles and black streamers that sat on my arm.)
Wow! Add "croak" sound and it's aalllliiiiive.... :-)
Damn I want one
A version of this to make Bubo the owl from clash of the titans would be amazing.
Flip the body over, so it stands upright and replace the head and you're pretty much there. Just need to get a different feather set.
does it come with the servos?
amazing
Cool!
Very Cool !!!!!!!!!!!!
That's Daniel Radcliffs older brother, right?
That's Elijah Wood's younger brother....
cool thing. can you programm movement yourself? and is it really that loud?
Actually, YES you can, if you have an usb cable that fits, and the software, (it's free, btw). Overall, I would say this kit is HIGHLY customizable. If you feel ambitious, it shouldn't be hard at all to change out the servos, for smaller, faster, and stronger servos. It all depends on how far down the rabbit hole you wish to go...!
Oh, one more thing. How loud are the mechanics is entirely dependant on the specific servos you use. Some are much noisier than others. But, even with noisy servos, there are ways to make them run quieter, (i.e.: packing the gear-well with silicone grease).
Can somebody please tell me how he made the feathers for the bird?
That's how Institute's spy raven synths were made in Fallout 4
That's So Raven
Ill have 2 of those just like Odin. Ill have the 3rd version which can fly also.
nevermore
Anyone know of any similar DIY kits?
You shouldn't use the phrase Audio-Animatronic, because that was trademarked by Disney! xD
I'm trying to find a way to make a anamtronic cat puppet. Pretty much like the salem saberhagen puppet.
The beginning of the institute
I wish Tested videos had captions. I would think that since Adam has hearing issues that he would want his content to be accessible to others with hearing issues.
Norm and Daniel Radcliff
It makes me think about Brennus
i want one :)
Come on, Jasper, put on the Harry Potter glasses! 🙂
Any one else click on this thinking it was an AvE video based on the thumbnail?
Still no Rift S review. Your silence has spoken volumes!
More like the silence after he lost his voice 😂
It sorta looks more like a crab claw then a raven head.
I thought it was Harry Potter for a second. lol Cool
$200!? Nevermore!
I thought it was a robot from Simone.
Nah, it would need to smack you in the face at least thirty times... 😉🤣😊
Omg an older Harry Potter
😂😂😂
Daniel Radcliffe is an older Harry Potter.
Stendhal?! _Pfff..._ Should've been Edgar Allan Poe. I'd have even named the kit "Quoth, the raven".
I guess it sort of looks like a raven...
Very cool kit, I just can't see spending 600 for a bird lol
Why does he look like Daniel Radcliffe? XD
Why not?
Stephen300o I see it now!
Raven? Bloodhound.
Hotel? Trivago
I was expecting it to cost somewhere between $40 - $100 tops
NOPE. $200 without shipping
JFC
Anyone else getting a four lions vib?
Well, if I do invest in a vib, I will probably get a four lions one.
can it scare pigeons?
Who the heck is Jim Henchon?
I love ravens and I think this animatronic is really nice but it is somehow overpriced £ 255 and not even the programming module is included
This would drive my dog nuts :/
The institute would like to:
*-know your location*
Would anybody sell it to me?
😍 When it shows the video was released 9 seconds ago.
What happens when it shows the video was released 9 seconds ago?
What about it?
Algum brasileiro?
That poor crow looks like he has mange.
Cool lookin crow, but 198$?
Should've made an owl animatronic instead.
Jim Henshon?
Harry Potter!
You used the healing bench to trick me into thinking this was AvE and I don't appreciate it
*crow. Ravens are twice that size.
It's a 1/2 scale raven.
Requesting the return of captioning for hard of hearing people please.
Σ(゚д゚)
Real!
Never more
It's pronounced raven, as in Ray-Ban
the fuck is Daniel Radcliffe doing here?!
What did Npc:white guy say to Npc:asain American beep book up down left right
First comment!
Awesome! Good job!
I know it's a labor of love, but 200 USD is abut steep for a mechanical bird.
4th comment
I saw the screenshot and thought it was an AvE video...😪 Disappointed
Same. Lol
