Projection Mapped Floating Head Kit!
Вставка

- Effects artist Jasper Anderson, aka Mr. Chicken's Prop Shop, brings another of his delightful haunt kits to our studio. This time, it's his take on a classic floating head in a bowl, using projection mapping. Jasper walks us through how he designed the sculpt and animation that combine for this eye-catching special effect.

Thanks for watching!
The timing of the smile at 4:59 is perfect.
This one is good to: 1:50
lol, like "aaah yeees, much better"
lmao
When I was 10 or 12 I saw an exhibit at the Smithsonian in DC that used this exact same effect. I'm 61 now.
This is the very same technology used by Disney at the Disneyland Haunted Mansion in California. This is not a new special effect. Welcome to the 1970's.
Live projection mapping is even cooler and can be applied to human actors. Instead of projecting a fixed video, the image is dynamically calculated for the current position and angle.
Naomi Wu made something similar, projected from a hat onto the face to confuse facial recognition systems
Well, _that's_ the stuff of nightmares.
I thought the cristal bowl would interfere somehow with the projector beam. Interesting.
The curved lens of the glass does affect the image as it passes through, but because the sides of the bowl are parallel the curved inside exactly reverses the effect as the light exits the glass. Physics are pretty cool!
Rolodzeo crystal*
he needs to make a futurama head in jar version
I think for that you would need 2 tubes(water between inner and outer, head in the inner one) to keep the head try or it would mess with the projection too much.
I immediately thought that! The head of Richard Nixon! The Start Trek crew! SO many possibilities!
I concur.
I love Jasper’s work! Hope to see more of him here!
Love it. So simple and so cool looking.
Totally freaky and awesome
Remeber the Star Wars messenger droid cosplay, I wonder if they could put Palpatine's head and apply it with this.
I saw this done on the USS Lexington in Texas. It is even creepier when it is supposed to be a normal human face.
I would like to add motors in the jaw and mouth behind latex to make the fore head and chin movements more realistic
Why does this remind me of 790 from Lexx?
These remind me of the Haunted Mansion ride.
That's the point.
"shhh.... you want to get suuued" - Willy, Simpson's Treehouse of Horrors V - The Shinning
Disney did actually use this method for years, at one point they linked the projector and model together for a floating effect, but now they use a more moden (and expensive) method
same method
That's how they did Madame Leota and the Grim Grinning Ghosts heads.
Given the lack of the Pro item, can you project from the rear of the mask? And what type of projector can be used for a short distance that would allow you to project from INSIDE the pro version?
I need this in my living room!
Next - LED screen powered head. Something like an octopus:)
Very cool though it is interesting how much you notice when a nose should be moving when the nose can't move.
Very cool!!
That is genuinely creepy, bravo!
Very Cool stuff !!!!!!
looking for a projector that could be inserted in the back of a hollow head to project on the face from inside any ideas on what type would be able to do this?
"Needs more cowbell!" ~ Christopher Walken
So this guy is definitely a Haunted Mansion fan. The raven, now this.
"Grim grinning ghosts come out to socialize"
Disneyland's Haunted Mansion had this in 1969.
I want to do with for my local theater for the wizard from thw wizard of oz.
It would be cool to use a snap chat filter to project other's faces onto it real-time.
Then you could server someones head, awsome
Serpents, Spiders, tail of a rat, call in the spirits, wherever your at.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
When hinges creak in doorless chambers, and strange and frightening sounds echo through the halls. Whenever candlelights flicker where the air is deathly still - that is the time when ghosts are present, practicing their terror with ghoulish delight!
Bring on Halloween 19 🎃
Wonder would Facerig work on this?
I notice Norm is saying "Totally" a lot since he's been doing videos with Kayte Sabicer. lol
1:28 "A lot of people..." Yeah, of course. Everyone has done that, ... right? xD
There are a ton of people who have used this for home haunts during Halloween, copied exactly from Disney's the Haunted Mansion
What the chances of being able to use rear projection into the back of the face mould?
I have searched and can't find a projector with a short enough throw (focusing distance). Would it be possible to use an optical mirror to redirect the projection? Anyone have any thoughts?
Jasper does just that and even mentions it in the video. I have played around with it, but not real easy with out having multiple lenses to change the throw distance. When the thing is self contained, the head can now move as well.

I wonder if he's ever done it with a concave mask. Like the ones that follow you in the Disney Haunted Mansion.
Thank you, now I know what my profession will be. I'll build similar things
thats super cool. that thing would have scared the bejeesus out of me as a kid on halloween on someones porch
It works even better with multiple projectors from different angles
The head should be the phase space of the moving head.
Cool & insane
It looks likes Salad Fingers xD Creepy but cool!
Jasper was great in The Expanse...
Dear sweet Leota
Beloved by all
In regions beyond now
But having a ball!
nice!
Need.
Madame Leota is that you?
I watch this channel 80% less because Adam wanted to put his name on the channel. This channel should be called Norm’s Tested.
Was it realy Adam who wanted his Name on the cannel? Sounds more like the idea of an advertisment guy. What about "Norm and Adams tested?"
Stefan Schömberg i personally think it’s never about the name, but it’s about the content. I feel like only Adam is narcissistic enough to put his own name on a channel he rarely was apart of.
Lee's Reviews it's always been Adams tested, changing the logo to include it doesn't change anything, it's still the same content.
Seggins Productions it used to only be called Tested
@@LeesReviews69 I think it used to be called Adam and Jamie's tested
I do this kind of work for a living. Instead of after effects, he should have gotten a hold of real mapping software. Pandoras Box, green hippo, D3, vyv... these all also work with 3d models. Then you can add full tracking system. The limits now are time and imagination. If you look at my page, I did something similar for a South Park display at Barney’s.
The ghoul looked like it was reacting to his head being grabbed 1:51
These would be more useful if more people could see them besides the ones with the $100 ticket & enough time to wait in line for hours.
Need to combine that with Siri!
Looks like the robot from LEXX
is this really projector mapping? it just looked like ordinary projector. No talk of skewing the image to account for a non flat surface.
I am impressed at first and then i see the full sized projector im like oookay
4D sculpting.
@4:38 What you thought was being projected.. but its a wig. silly me.
I gives me ideas...
Front project seems totally pointless.
I'm thinking Nathan Fillion in Santa Clarita Diet...
that's harry potter
Murdoc head
why dont the just say Madame Leota

@@TheRainHarvester nice job, very sweet
Jack Conte did this first...!! Just sayin...
Hi boi
Now to connect to Alexa ;)
Great effect, but loose the CG animation. Disney did it better with real faces back in the 60's. CG is NOT for everything!
