We fished the exact same spot in the back of the harbor last week
Mojos and spoons
Had 20 bass over the slot range
Your videos helped me read the fish finder, find better bait schools, watching the tide/drift
Learning more and more!! Great stuff!!
Awesome!!! Thanks brother!
😁 I live right up the street from that first spot 👍
I got a kastking sharky lll for my surf rod and definitely no complaints
i have got to take a trip and get out there
just one time lol
I was on the hunt looking for fish with a first timer on the boat and he told me just stop and let him fish, he didn’t need all those modern electronics to find fish. I agreed with him and said next trip he could ride his horse and meet me at the ramp which is a2hour drive in the truck! Don’t know how long it would take on a horse.
He decided modern things might not be so bad after all !
Work smarter not harder!
Old School rocks! Thanks for sharing these videos!!!
Perfect! when someone complains about the fishfinder, saying good fishermen don’t need $5000 in fish finders I say “that’s absurd! That’s preposterous, I have WAY more than $5000 in fish finders” 🤷🏻♂️. 😳
From Ohio I watch all your videos. Same concepts work at Lake Cumberland, KY? Find the bait, fish the spoons? Thanks for sharing, LGB…
Absolutely, but right now your big fish will be very shallow. Up on the banks. 👍👍
Great information, great videos. I watch them all the time. Love the " Old School" Logo ( My grandson calls me Pop-I.) Would love to hear how the Kastking reels hold up. I have a few myself. Nothing holds up like my old Penn squidders. Keep the Info coming and Catch them up Men.
Again, thanks for the detailed advice. Alway great!
Glad you like it brother!
Waved to you guys last night - I was in a red kayak out by the lighthouse, jigging ‘‘em up using flutter spoons which I learned about from your channel. Thanks.
Awesome!! You were working out there. Thanks for the comment brother.
You guys should do a trip up to long Island sound. Fishing has been the best it has been in years. Stacks of fish this early is very rare. Had a bunch in an hour on the troll. 25"-36" fish. All fresh ocean fish with lice
Awesome!!! We actually did a few trips there years ago with KIDCOCHIESE. We got on some thick fish.
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS KON 👍
Another great video, thanks Mike!
😁👍thanks!
youguys are awesome love watching your videos
Thanks Kristina!!!😁👍👍
That’s awesome your first trip,I have a couple of questions, your Active Target system that’s mounted to the trolling motor,is that the bracket that the original bracket that comes with the system or is it different,I have the same one but I want something different so I can use the different modes, and what size net should I get to Striper fish, I didn’t plan on writing a story 😂🤣 sorry 😆
Thanks brother. It’s the original bracket. I personally only really use forward scan. I don’t know of a bracket that changes quicker than the original. I have a few different nets, but the main ones are Frabil Walleye/Pike and Frabil Pike/Musky. The larger one is for the Chesapeake where we catch fish over 40lbs.
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS thank you buddy,I only fish forward sonar also and you guys really look professional and dressed in the same Afco gear 👍
Thanks brother!!! The people at Aftco are awesome. They take great care of us. Those are actually first run suits and they still look great.
Man I’d love to fish with you lol seem like you know a lot thanks for the vids slowly I’m learning and working my way up the size chart
Good video Mike.Sometimes you spend 3 hours looking and 30 minutes fishing. The stripers here in california are starting there spawning run up the sacramento river.A lot of small males and the females are starting to show. One sad thing is some people are taking and killing the large females.Thats the future of our striper fishery!
Just 30 minutes can make the trip sometimes. For sure! 👍👍
NIce Day! Our trophy season start SUNDAY!
Thanks brother!
That's awesome video
Thank you!!!
Besides all the striper info the video work is fantastic.
Thank you a ton brother!! 😁😁👍👍
Great video. Learned a lot.
Thanks brother!
Cool footage of the boat running. How do you like the Aftco rain gear?
Love it!! Thanks brother!!!
Thanks for the amazing advice and insight mike! Quick question. Do you strictly drop down , or cast slightly. Like let’s say there’s a a blitz 50 yards out and you wanna put a lure like that in the strike zone for the bigger bass underneath the bunker/herring? Can it be used on the troll in 8-14 ft around the banks an channels or do you guys have another great option you make or suggest in those situations. Have a great day thanks again for the terrific content
love the videos, I've learned a lot watching them over the years. I'd love to know what tackle storage system you have going on under your leaning post. As a center console owner myself I'm looking for something to save space and can't seem to find the perfect affordable tackle system. Thanks in advance and keep posting!!
Thanks brother!! I will do a video on it soon. Thanks for the idea! I’ll get something up in a few days!
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS Awesome! Can’t wait
When the tides running do you have a hard time keeping those hook up baits on the bottom?
No because we are drifting. 👍
I noticed you have a short homemade leader on your planer boards that the Scotty clips are attached too. What was the reason you do this and not use the clips that come with the Scotty clips?
Thanks, Ron
The rings that come on planer boards always bind up when letting it out. The wire leader solves that problem. 👍
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS I appreciate your feedback and just so you know, I started trying to target stripers two years ago at a local lake here in North East PA. I never caught one until I started watching our video's. I can't thank you enough, especially when my kids finally see this amazing fish on the end of their pole!! Bravo Zulu!!
Heck yeah!!! I love it! Thank you Ron!! That makes my day! Thanks for the comment! 🙏😁👍
great vid..what state are you fishing in?
Thanks brother! NY. NJ.
Really like the new camera angles. I thought it was drone at first but figured it wasnt after a while.
Thanks brother! 👍👍👍😁
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS Glad to see the captain finally got to catch a few as well
How do you get those camera angles that make it look like you're time traveling? You got a Flux capacitor on that SeaPro?
😛😛😛. I was wondering if anyone was gonna ask about that 😂. You’re the first. Believe it or not it’s just a Go Pro Max camera on a pole.
What is the spec on your Blk & blue signature rod?
We designed them as a pair for my style of fishing. One is a blue blank with black carbon grips and the other is black with blue grips. The blue is M power moderate fast action low mod graphite 7’ Rainshadow blank. The black is MH power. I Chuck plastics with the M and plugs with the MH. This video breaks down the thoughts in designing them. ua-cam.com/video/1n9xJsTzAdI/v-deo.html 👍👍
Ive watched most of your videos for years. Great content! Definitely helped me put more fish in the boat in the northeast. I notice you rarely or never use your trolling motor striper fishing. Why is that? I fish a 19’ aluminum boat for now and feel like I want to use my tm to slow my drift to stay in the fish longer. Also whats the target water temp for the bulk of the striper run? TY
Thanks brother!! I use the trolling motor for live bait mostly or if fish are locked up in one spot. I prefer to drift after I mark them. For saltwater it’s 45-75, but water in the 50’s is usually the best for bigger fish. This can change in fall to spring, but it’s a good short answer 👍👍
Awesome!
It looks like you guys are running south down Arthur Kill in the beginning of the video. Where do you launch up there?
Shoot me an email. Mikesmedley9@gmail.com
Just curious how that Baitcaster worked out after you dumped it in the water the next day I was thinking about picking up a couple wasn’t sure how they’d be in salt water
So far so good bro!! I’ve dunked it at least once on each of the last few trips and only rinsed at the end of the day with the other reels. Of course it’s just a quick dip, I doubt much water reached the bearings, but it’s the best way i know how to speed up the corrosion test. If it fails in any way I will definitely post it. I’d wait just a few weeks, I will know more then. 👍👍.
Ty
Yeah I watch all your videos I’m a big striper for myself I’m up here towards Plum Island in New Hampshire and Maine
@@hammertime147 sweet!! Beautiful water up there!!
What are those black string things hanging from the T Top behind your leaning post?
They are line cutters that retract. The springs are just worn out so they need help goin back up 😂
Hey mike is your camera an insta360 x2? Shots are so dope
Crazy shots right? It’s a Go Pro Max.
Hi Mike, is a drop shot rig a good set up for catching stripers?
When they are keying on bottom sure👍👍
Hey Mike! :) I'm curious if you've heard anything from Simrad about an update for the Evo3S that might be on the near horizon? They haven't had an update since Oct 2021. I think they're past due for an update.
I haven’t heard anything.
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS Finally!!!! They released an update. It popped May 17, so probably about a week or so after I asked about it. I'm sure you probably have it already however, it's not worth the time really. I'll update it anyways just to ensure I'm running the latest updates. NONE of the updates I submitted to them are there of course. I never even got a response as to whether they thought my suggestions were a good idea or just stupid. It would have been nice to know either way. It's just about the lamest software update ever.
Yeah. Most updates are about bug fixes. I rarely see anything change dramatically. Because all of their displays are really sold AS-IS with no real instructions (because the booklet would be 1000 pages) owners are on their own. They all end up calling Simrad for help 24/7. They are over flooded with calls and e-mails permanently. It’s amazing anyone can even get thru sometimes. It’s like an iPhone. No booklet.
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS That's true. You know my story from last year dealing with Simrad for an exchange and all the drama that came from that. I reached out to them and provided details on several minor bug issues, and also needed feature updates. Never heard anything back from them. I guess they just laughed and put it in the round file. lol. Sadly they made NO updates to the "Store" which is a BIG missed opportunity. Most of the items on the store don't even work anymore because vendors like C-Map changed their options and packages, but did the software update correct that? Nope!. lol.
csn.u fnd em without fishfinder ?
You can, but you end up being a “spot” fisherman. You log spots that you learn hold fish over time. Other than that you end up fishing near the channel edges and drops off that you find on charts. In fall and spring evenings you can follow birds and breaking fish.
Niceee, what state in the NE are you fishing out of?
Thanks brother!! It’s NY. Shoot me an email mikesmedley9@gmail.com
