im surprised how many guys are against convertible foxbodys..the exhaust sounds awesome with the top down and its a whole different feel with the wind blowing in your hair..i built a trickflow hci 89 vert lx and its a blast .hard top foxbody buddies are always rethinking verts after a rip
They are restoring this beautiful car. They're not trying to make it a 350 hp street king. Just trying to bring back the beauty of the Foxbody Mustang.
Guys, I really enjoyed this series. As a foxbody owner, I really appreciate the build. I will definitely be looking at this series when I start upgrading my 91 LX
Its actually about time you guys did something for the fox's.... I've had all of those performance parts (minus regular GT-40 3 bar cast iron heads)... good to see what my power should be looking like.
man all that work and we didnt even get to hear that sexy idle???? even your burnout video of the finished stage 3 fox doesnt let you hear it!!! come on now, share the fruits of your labor lol great job AM
Coyote has 4 cams. Its a stroked 4.6 mod motor. There is no fun in swapping a motor in a car that you havent built yourself and setup. And since they are going for a 93 cobra restore, they need it to stay a 5.0. And a coyote swap still would have cost WAY more anyways. You need the ecu, wiring harness, plus the brand new motor.
+slayerdearly I just realized this was a 93 GT they only made 205hp that year because Ford ditched the forged internals because the cobra came out and they didnt want the GT and LX to only make 10hp less than the cobra because then there wouldnt be incentive to buy one
Guys, PLEASE do a Staged build similar to this on an SN95; Give the underdog of the Late Model Mustang a little bit of love! There are truck-loads of parts and mods for 01+ Mustangs, the SN's are so neglected but so commonly owned (where I live, at least)!
They had right at 235hp. New 5.0s put out a little above 400 But a well built fox can outrun just about every import. Even if its a little faster we always have a few more tricks...408 stroker and coyote swapp lol
People need to stop comparing a 93 to 2013. Yes the new 5.0l make more power. They should! Its almost 20 years later. But make no mistake the 302 put in the fox bodies are invincible if taken care of. Plus you can match the hp by adding a few parts from exhaust, header, cam, turbo, gear, tuners, suspension, and even throttle body at half the cost of a new 662hp stang motor. Plus the body on the fox bodies are much more unique unlike the new Mustangs which are going to European for me. Foxbodies!
They got the credit they deserve lol. Did you forget the 03-04 Cobra? 390hp of raw power. Id kill to have an 03 Cobra. I thought the 4.6 was better until I got my 87 GT. Just the power alone makes it feel like a better ride. Its putting down about 340rwhp and thats with a little above 2k in the motor which is pretty good since I can outrun Ls1s, new SS Camaros, and Srt8s lol.
thanks will, i definitely would like to keep you guys updated on the fox, i have pics... if you want i could send a couple just to show you what im buying... its actually in freakin good shape to be a 9 duce. let me kno guys..
+Dwayne Turner That's awesome man! Feel free to reach out to me on Facebook or Via email, I would love to help! William.levantovsky@americanmuscle.com. William Levantovsky on Facebook! - Will
Ford did make a cobra vert...btw...it was in 92 tho and they are very rare...it was a pre production thing and only select few dealers got them...I only know of one around personally...and it is a real 92 svt cobro vert
Nice build! I only have issue with 2 of the parts selected however. E303 Cam and Shorty Headers. You left some HP on the table with those GT40X heads. Those heads like a Long Tube and a Trick Flow Stage 1 Cam much better. You would of saw 300HP at the rear easy. I should know. I have practically the same combo you guys built.
To get rid off the gap, you need to take off the door and re-hang it. New door pins, etc... new window trim will help shorten the gap. Its $30 from summit.
You should probably trade if if youre planning on buying anything for your car. A good start would be a 96-98 GT or you can pick up an old foxbody for less than 2k
Never heard of SR. Those subframes look pretty small, about the size of my Kenny Browns that I put on in the 90's that I tore off and replaced with some MM's.
No too sure if you got the same escort as we did in Euroland, we have had a car called the Escort since the mid 60s, not too sure when Ford started selling them in the US, wasn't the Probe based on a Mazda thou?
diecast jam No it was going to be a a FWD Mustang but they decided to keep the RWD, that was basically how the probe came to be. Not based on Mazda....since Ford does own a percentage. Hence why they put 1.6 dohc motors in the early 90s Escort GTs
MrMustangFan87 You do realize the escort was being sold in america in the early eighties before the probe came out and the probe was designed by a mazda designer hence why the mazda 6 shares alot of the same componets as the probe.
I'd like to see this setup race a stock srt8 charger or challenger, considering the weight to power ratio it could be pretty even. I have a ragtop fox myself.
There is a lot more to suspension then springs and shocks. Just getting bigger won't help. You have to know how to set it all up and how suspension works.
since American Muscle is just outside Philly (less then an hour away from me) and i know the state inspection and emissions rules (i have a Pa state inspection lisence and used to have an emissions lisence (i let it expire)), that Fox is not legal for the roads in Pa. you need a cat, exspecialy in Philly and surounding counties.
93's aren't the greatest because they came with the Hypereutectic Pistons and not Forged Pistons known to be in the 87-92 which i believe had a Comp Ratio difference also. I have a 91 Mustang LX 347 Stroker Notchback and I love it. Car is lighter and frame is more solid in rear.
I think the point was that if you spending that much money anyway, you should get the best thing that would fit under the hood. I've got a coupe fox I'm about to do the same thing to. Aluminator motor, six-speed tremec, and coil-over suspension. Late Model restoration has anything you need for the conversion so why not do it?
I was reading the convo. about 4.6 cobra VS. a 5.0 fox and i disagree. my brother has a '96 GT bored 0.40, PI swapped, MSD ignition, ported stock heads and a comp cam with a hugh duration and split. We race my uncle's 5.0 with just a Trickflow track heat top end kit and ROASTED his ass. :) So i cant say your completely right.
lol, np. but yea i used to have a 91 5.0 also an it was fast for its time, which is long gone. an true the old fox has bulit a god like reputation, but truth of the matter is i believe the 4.6 era, which started out a bit shakey jst like the early 85 and 86 5.0 motors, the 4.6 are in fact stronger an better built motors. sure the 4.6 cost more to mod but to me thy r worth it. u wouldnt need to go tht far with the heads to kill it. cai, tb, gears, an a good tune would b enough for ur 4.6 doc
and its still makes less power then the same year camaro Z28 with heads, cam and intake. but for their benefit, the Fox body is alot light then the current Mustang, GT or V6, so the power to weight ratio is better.
Go with a V8. I personally have an 08 V6 (my first car, and have loved it), but I will be trading it in for a new '14 5.0. The way I see it, for the amount of money you put in a V6, you could swap your car (or at least engine) for a V8, which will give you a higher base point to start with. I restrained myself from modding my V6 (aside from exterior, tune and CAI mods) knowing that I should just keep my project mods for when I get a GT. But again, V6s get a lot of shit, but IMO they are great!
@ychavarria100 you should have an intake similar to this already the trucks and the explorer had gt40 intake and heads which are better than the mustangs heads and intake.
A lot of ignorant people will make fun of your 3.8 because it's a V6. I would take that as a challenge. Save your money and get a 8.8 rear end off a gt and a Maximum Motorsports complete suspension kit.
First, i also feel the 4.6 is a better motor thn the old 5.0s. wish my 97gt was a cobra, but ur stock corbra. have u ever had it dyno'd? Its get about 260rwhp/275rwtq. this 5.0 is gettin 279rwhp/317rwtq. its puttin down more power thn ur cobra, especially in the tq department, has better suspension an balanced to help get it movin, an has that weight advantage. ur cobra has more potential i think, but won't get the win vs. this 5.0 while stock. although it wouldnt take much to get the win for u
Im about to purchase a fox body convertible.. which has saleen markings.. but cant really be sure, salesman says it is.. but over the years my luck with getting something rare isnt in spades.. but i like the car anyway... gotta put a new motor and trans in it... looking for ideas on the build! saw this video, wheels turning
+Dwayne Turner That's awesome Dwayne! I'd love to hear more about this Fox! If you end up picking up, we're here to help and would love to help you with the build. - Will

foxbodys are fucking beautiful, im an 88 fox owner myself. You dont gotta love em just respect em!
I have to agree with you there man. I had a notch myself! Itching to do another Fox build here also, I'll see what we can do! - Will
You guys at AM did this Fox 'vert justice, very sweet looking Cobra clone, well done!
Its actually about time you guys did something for the fox's.... I've had all of those performance parts (minus regular GT-40 3 bar cast iron heads)... good to see what my power should be looking like.
Great job. Very classy. Thank you for ditching those other headlights.
As a result: *Still no cup holders.*
Who cares. Shoild radio delete it.
Owned 13 of these foxs 87-93 and 2x 95s. Fun cars cheap and easy to build .
Even though I don't like fox bodies I did enjoy this series. Good job AM. A+ from me.
As a New Edge '01 Cobra owner is sure is nice to see something other than a friggin SN197 build! Thank you for something new AM!
man all that work and we didnt even get to hear that sexy idle???? even your burnout video of the finished stage 3 fox doesnt let you hear it!!! come on now, share the fruits of your labor lol great job AM
Foxes are the most beautiful mustangs along the new ones and the 69-70 ones
great cars...when they built real cars.
awesome...gotta love the foxbodys. Working on an '89 right now myself. Got lots of ideas from this project. Keep up the good work guys.

Finally something other than '05+ stuff!
"This car has some serious balls" lol
lol I know I mean itts a nice car but a head and cam swap with bold ons and still le then 300 rwhp XD
For a fox it is :)
They left out a critical bolt on though, NITRUS!
+slayerdearly I just realized this was a 93 GT they only made 205hp that year because Ford ditched the forged internals because the cobra came out and they didnt want the GT and LX to only make 10hp less than the cobra because then there wouldnt be incentive to buy one
+slayerdearly this fox is still probably making 350 at the crank which is pretty good.. for a old 302 and in such a light body it will rip pretty good
Got to love that e303 cam exhaust note.
That is a beautiful car. You guys did an outstanding job on the resto. Sounds great too
How much would you guys charge for a build start to finish same car
Wish they put a turbo I would have loved to see this thing rip, but still for staying true to the cobra it's pretty sexy. Great restore guys!
Great looking fox.

well done AM. well done.
I don't like verts but this one is looking damn fine! I love the black interior, I could never find one with black interior mine had the grey.
Cant waitto see this beast with a super charge!
People need to stop comparing a 93 to 2013. Yes the new 5.0l make more power. They should! Its almost 20 years later. Those are some pretty impressive gains!
AMAZING JOB FELLOWS
Came out great!!
Need to add the roll bar and cruise with the top down
They got the credit they deserve lol. Did you forget the 03-04 Cobra? 390hp of raw power. Id kill to have an 03 Cobra.

Needs better brakes, suspension, structural enhancement and gears. Woot!
if you think it needs- add it.,
So sick , good job american muscle !!!
Looks amazing guys! It sounds incredible!! I can't wait to start modding my S197.
cobra intakes are almost impossible to find? junkyard ford explorer motor :)
dang 279hp and 317ft/lbs, cant wait to see what I can make with gt40xs ported, f cam, and ported original cobra intake
Great job American Muscle! I love the car!
Why shorties and h pipe? Wouldn't long tubes and an x pipe do better for power?
And taking in consideration the drivetrain loss it would be pretty impressive
this was awesome, but the project blackout car will always be my favorite ;D
My 89 5.0 with just a HCI swap, 5spd and 3.73 gears in the 12's with 4 heavy 245/45/17 toyo proxes.
Been waiting on this it seems like forever. Good vids!
Beautiful

ah i was off, i love foxbody mustangs! my first car is going to be a 93 mustang, 5.0 5 speed. ive already got it.

Awesome build guys! hope to see a stage 4
Never showed it with the top down :/ A lot of fun to watch all the way through!
Yeah! I was waiting so long for that...
Great series I'm in the middle of building my 85 GT
Its fine, as long as there isnt any overheating.
250hp for a CAI and exhaust and tune. Thats actually pretty damn good considering it only has around 220hp stock.
they look a bit like the contemporary escorts they got in Europe at the time, especially at the front, this one looks like the xr3i cabriolet
That's where escorts came from. FWD Ford Probe is a variant of a fox, then the Escort replaced the Probe.
No too sure if you got the same escort as we did in Euroland, we have had a car called the Escort since the mid 60s, not too sure when Ford started selling them in the US, wasn't the Probe based on a Mazda thou?

Nice. I had a 91 Lx but sold it. I have an 87 GT now. About 320-340 to the wheels lol
Awesome stang! Great job guys!!
Very Nice!! Good work AM
i enjoyed this build , hopefully we see a stage 4 ;)
I'd like to see this setup race a stock srt8 charger or challenger, considering the weight to power ratio it could be pretty even. I have a ragtop fox myself.
Great job I need to do my 89 gt convert like that
Awesome video,great work!
new V6 mustangs make more horsepower stock! holy hell, ponies have come a hellva long way since back then.
There is a lot more to suspension then springs and shocks. Just getting bigger won't help. You have to know how to set it all up and how suspension works.

Great car
Beautiful car! As the original owner of a '92 GT convertible that I'd like to do some work on, I'd like to know what this project cost.
love how they did 87 octane for the initial test on hp then 93 after they did mods, seems legit to me.
Because we wanted to, Cobra convertible.
I was reading the convo. about 4.6 cobra VS. a 5.0 fox and i disagree. my brother has a '96 GT bored 0.40, PI swapped, MSD ignition, ported stock heads and a comp cam with a hugh duration and split. a late stage 4 should be installing one of those hellion single turbo kits!
279hp....this car has some serious balls.... I don't know if u mean the car or you for the fact u had to say that on camera....lol.
@ychavarria100 you should have an intake similar to this already the trucks and the explorer had gt40 intake and heads which are better than the mustangs heads and intake.
EXCELLENT
A lot of ignorant people will make fun of your 3.8 because it's a V6. I would take that as a challenge. Save your money and get a 8.8 rear end off a gt and a Maximum Motorsports complete suspension kit.
This video made me so jealous haha I would probably kill a man to do this build on my '89 coupe :\
I like how all your project cars are painted in Competition Orange, yet you don't offer the color on any of your pre-painted parts.
Stage 4: Turbo Kit 10psi. DO IT!
Nice!
Nice! Love it!

See I was wondering why it was missing like 25 horse and then I realized it was a natural 1993 car
How much was all of this together? Mainly the mechanical works engine etc (non body work)
around 10K
I cant believe they forgot to put the upper and lower rear control arms!
please get that addressed soon!
