Great video and fantastic help I've just took mine off today , a top tip just remove the from transfer axle / box front bolt. Unfortunately there isn't quite enough room to remove the sump so I just jacked up the engine gave me enough room to remove the sump.
How did you aline the oil pump back up correctly.
    Thanks

Thank you mate! Yeah we had seen the option of jacking the engine or lifting it slightly with an engine crane to gain access.
In some models the lower crossmember can just be unbolted too, we also could have rebolted ours back in rather than welding, so there are a couple of options.
Fortunately, we could see exactly where the old oil pump was located, so we just fixed it in the same position, but the best/correct thing to do would be to buy a pump alignment tool, they’re cheap and will give you peace of mind when fitting the new pump!

If you’ve got a newer one get a crossmember from the wreckers and fit that up with a couple of bolts.

You might get away with putting a new pump on if you turned it off in time as they don’t last long with no oil pressure put and see how it runs if it sounds like a bag of spanner’s it’s new engine time as it be more sensible starting fresh as you would need to fully strip your old engine to check to see what’s damaged

One thing that strikes me as strange, is that many of the UK groups I follow for Rangers mention this problem. But it doesn't seem to be an issue with Rangers in Australia and South East Asia. I don't know if its a climate thing, or if the UK had oil pumps from a different factory?

    • @richardstokes2209

As I understand Ford fitted an upgrade pump to later PX 1 models around 2013 to overcome pump vane disintegration problems, in some vehicles, so early models of the PX1 Rangers were most affected, 2014/15 onwards should have the upgraded pump.
The earlier 3 liter Japanese Mazda diesel engines fitted to Ranger PJ/Pk didn't appear to have oil pump problems unlike Ford Europe's 4 & 5 cylinder 2.2/3.2 diesel engines, there's a message here Ford! .....Let's not even mention Fords Euro design V6 Lion engine and its oiling design faults.
A well serviced Ranger 2.2 or 3 .2 liter can see 300k plus with the upgrade pump however the 10 minute oil change is a pain in the arse.
A friend sadly holed his sump with a broken 'star picket' that pierced his standard sump protection plate loosing most of his oil on a remote outback cattle station, luckily he turned the engine off early, ute was towed to station workshop for welding repairs on sump.
Luckily he was prepared as we must in remote travel and had 2 10 liter packs of 0w40 and drowned the engine, it primed and built pressure and we drained off the excess allowing him to continue working.
Next week's mail order via EBAY from Melbourne brought out a constant flow oil pump and a 3 piece Australian aftermarket H/D 5mm (sump, transfer transmission) bash plates for better under protection.

Min was a 2015 and when we removed original pump it all looked good but we obviously didn’t strip to inspect like you say I think the main problem is the lack of servicing and the the 10 minute window is the big problem on these engines I only did this mod to mine as it needed a service and only cost me the parts and my time so hopefully now by improving the oil pump it will make it a bit more reliable for the future 👍

Do Ford actually supply a code OP243 pump or aftermarket, i see conflicting reports saying Rangers after 2014 2015 should be ok because Ford modified them & yet you see 2016 2017 pumps apparently failing, I’m still quite tempted to change it for piece of mind & the pump & a bit of labour is small compared to a new motor. The lack of technical understanding is frightening. The difference between a variable displacement pump and a constant displacement pump is fundamental to the operation and economy of the engine. The problem arises when fitters do not understand that the variable displacement pump will not self prime and therefore the oil change process ( drain, filter change , start refill) must be completed before the oil pump is totally drained, Just requires a bit of thought and preplanning. The advantage of the variable displacement oil pump is reflected in the fuel economy. Sorry guys but these giggling chimps just do not understand what they are doing.
