Why ?
I had a 40 year career in polymer chemistry. I can't begin to comment on the high levels of risk to health and safety these guys display here. Pretty funny though.
In Soviet Russia they poison the batteries
*UPDATE* I knew all along they were Ukrainian, but for the overused joke's sake I said such, and technically they're slavs so you get my point, just clarifying coz in this days I bet the last thing an ukrainian wants is to be confused with a Russian

I remember as a kid, I used to take apart nicd battery packs from rc cars to look at the cells, and I had this one rc airplane that had a lithium ion battery and I thought it was the same. So when I took it apart I was only given a shock and after that I stopped taking apart any battery pack that was "squishy". Now that I look back at it, kinda glad I was only shocked because I realize I could've burned everything!

"ILL HANDLE IT"...
Discharge the batteries thoroughly before disassembly will be much safer (but it won't burn and it's less excited). The lithium intercalated graphite anode is still extremely reactive towards water, similar to lithium metal. The electrolyte commonly used is LiPF6 and would hydrolyze into HF. The binder is PVDF and would possibly release HF after combustion. The amount isn't too much so it's not too dangerous. Rest of the materials including the stinky organic carbonate solvents aren't so toxic. It's still OK to touch but not recommended .
Hydroxide fluoride is deadly whe inhaled ?
@@anubisdeathangel1093 yes, hydrogen fluoride is toxic. Not recommended to expose yourself to it.. It can be lethal if you inhale a lot.
Go check some photos showing what will happen if you expose your skin to hydrofluoric acid.
@@sovietrepublic38 hey thanks a lot for the info thoses batery especially in rc car can be dangerous if transported in non ventilated area such as a car whe u see it fume should get out of the car imidialtly

This video was totally awesome, thumbs up 👍
Makes me scared of my phone
I love the way, they bring the slogan " safty first" into action!!!
Yeah the action could end up in the hospital.
These guys were doing very dangerous experiments with Lithium batteries. Lithium and the other rare earth elements used in these batteries are toxic to breath and can be toxic to handle if any of these chemicals are absorbed by the pores in the skin. In the video we can see one of the guys touching the battery internal elements with his fingers. He is also exposed to possibly breath in any chemical release of the battery.
Lithium battery electrodes if coming in contact with water will tend to go up in flames. The Lithium reacts with the water to immediately separate the hydrogen-oxygen bond, and with the conductivity there is quick intense heat buildup. This is why trying to put out a Lithium battery fire with water will actually intensify the flames. You can try to douse it with huge amounts of water to keep its temperature down and subdue the flames, but this would take a large amount of water.
The devices that use Lithium batteries have a manager circuit that works with a uPC (microprocessor controller) system. There are current, temperature, and voltage sensing circuits. The battery manager controls the charge current and voltage to the battery as required. Inside the battery there is also a battery manager circuit that is for safety. It tracks the temperature and condition of the battery, and shut down the battery function if necessary. The phone's battery manager can also do the same type of function.
If the battery is not tampered with, not exposed to excessive heat, and using the proper charger there should be no danger. When the battery ages and if starts to swell up it should be changed. The swelling is from out gassing effect. When the battery ages the dialectic layer starts to degrade and produce carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), ethylene (C2H4), ethane (C2H6), fluoroethane (C2H5F), hydrogen (H2), and hydrogen fluoride (HF) [12,13]. This combination of gasses are very toxic for humans and animals. Also very corrosive. This is why the battery is sealed and will swell up rather than disperse the gasses.
For safety of your phone the maximum ambient temperature should not exceed 96F or 35C. Maximum safe internal battery temperature should not exceed 45C or 113F. Never keep your phone in your pocket while the phone is turned on. It can easily overheat internally because the phone has no place to disperse the heat. Dangerous for overheating the battery and the electronics of the phone.
i laugh so hard when they tried to put it out only to ignite again 😂

I just did this (before finding This video) also without any safety equipments😂 I do know that lithium is extremely reactive and battery components are highly toxic, but my curious little mind wanted it so..
I couldn't believe someone has also done it! Their reactions are very similar to mine😂😂🤣🤣
You guys rightfully earned my sub
Love the videos. I'm a truck driver in Britain and I've had not one but TWO satnavs go up in flames and I mean BIG flames the last on burnt my dashboard. And before anybody lectures me about trucks being 24V not 12V like cars both of them were 24V trucknavs, very scary.
Ya that's no good at all! I drove fuel truck for a while and there was a Panasonic toughbook mounted in the cab that was part of the meter/receipt system. They had a recall for batteries. Good thing none of them went up with 20,000L of gasoline in the tank.
I know the majority of the internet doesn’t care, but someone could’ve freakin‘ died here.
But yes, as they said at the end, lithium ion batteries are insanely dangerous considering we’re all carrying a pocket device with one inside.
I threw a laser pointer that held a 1632 size lithium button cell into a campfire. After several minutes, it exploded, expelling the battery and hot debris towards me, causing a burn on my right arm and my shirt. I got lucky it did not cause any more injury to me than that.
That's why I never use the high-amp cell phone charger for my phone. I've been charging my phone every night with a 5V 500mA USB charger. The phone stays cool at all times and the battery chemistry doesn't get pushed to its limits.
@untitled. The main reasons for the high-amp charging hype are as follows:
#1: The well-known impatience known to mankind!
#2: Heat up the battery to artificially age it at a point where it can no longer do as soon as the 2-year-warranty is over.
Remember the SAMSUNG Note 9? No longer allowed on aircrafts, decreed by the FAA!

The fumes are highly poisonous, apart from the electrolytes. They worste what could occur is a burned face caused by spilled acid.

The implications of this are serious! Imagine a smartphone packed in luggage (carry-on or worse check in) stowed in an airplane and the battery catches fire.
That's actually why you can't put a smartphone or any lithium battery in checked luggage
¿ Do you have the courage to do the same thing but without the safety slippers and shorts. ?
Keep them going, your experiments and projects are really funny and interesting to see.
the guy who gave them internet access made a huge step for these type of people
I replaced an iphone battery for a friend of mine. Then I told him we had to make the old one safe for disposal. He wasn't sure what I meant. I said, "we need to stab the old battery". He said, "Well I have this letter opener.." I said, "Perfect" and set the battery outside on a concrete sidewalk and stabbed it with the letter opener. At first, nothing happened, all you could see was a red glow around the area where the letter opener pierced the battery. Then I pulled the letter opener out of the battery and that's when it burst into flames. Then I said, "Now you see what I mean about making it safe for disposal. Wouldn't want to make a trash truck catch fire!"

Well, some countries don't give a shit about the environment. Take the US for example. It's very common just to throw everything in the trash regardless of what it is and then dump it as landfill.
Here in Denmark, WE CARE. We have separate containers for recyclable material such as glass, metals etc. Also, there is a special container for the material shown in the video and lightbulbs, neon tubes etc. The local recycling department will also take things like motor oil, chemicals, and very dangerous substances, for free.
Guys please wear gloves
They don`t give a shit
@@alexfigueroa9993 they dont give a shit even they loose some fingers 😁😁😁
Exactly.. The fact that at any point doing all these crazy dangerous experiments may blow off a finger, hand, limb or loss of life gives them a massive Adrenalin rush and that is what drives them. But that doesn't mean that they lack respect for themselves, they do exercise a level of safety that's unseen until something goes wrong. Also these experiments and video's would be boring if they had to make everything safe, gloves, lab coat, face mask, eye protection, safety boots, testing lab, etc etc blah blah.. Them NOT doing all the safety crap makes watching this quite entertaining and puts you on the edge of your seat as you keep wondering if they gonna have an accident, lol

These guys live in a war zone. They treat artillery shells as a minor inconvenience. I don't think touching a few volatile chemicals really phases them that much. Anyway, they know what they're doing.
