59:51 I ran a unit of dragon princes with BSB, war banner and battle banner for a static combat res of 5+D3. Every turn I had basically won the combat before dice were thrown, and I got to re-charge every turn. There are obviously counters to this unit, but impetuous wasn't an issue for me because I was happy just to get stuck in and grind it out.
I forgot to mention taking the Razor Standard on Seaguard to buff their shooting and combat. And I think a regular GW if you are mounted on a monster is also a good option, if you are trying to save points. Thanks for letting me come on the show!
30 block 15x2 seems so strong with the razor banner, with the free redress you can do all sorts of out of phase pseudo movement shenanigans and go 20 wide or 10x3 depending what charges you Sisters are the better pure shooting unit and arguably stronger vs chaff with ithilmar wep and strikes first but seaguard with razor banner are one of the strongest hybrid units in the game imho
Dude razor standard on a BSB with reaver bow, in a big unit of sisters (potentially core sisters if you really wanted). Sisters now have ap 1 armour bane 4! Absolutely delete heavy cavalry.
@@Zenfoxgames I think if you are taking that combo it's definitely the unit around which you build your list. A hypothetical maxed unit of 33 (most you can have at 2k if not core), at long range, will kill 6.11 bretonnian knights of the realm in 1 round of shooting, that's a huge number. Doesn't include the BSB's reaver bow shots. Obviously that's an unlikely sized unit of them, but I do think it demonstrates the potential of their power. There is no other long range, non artillery shooting unit in the game that can have ap5 (maybe some wood elf combo with arcane bodkins?), and they have a ton of other special rules that makes them so useful too. Seaguard are nice, but I'm not sure I really rate their shooting, as if they are in a position to shoot enemy chaff (their ideal target), they are likely to be in a bad position to receive a charge. I think a unit of spearmen with shieldwall and a seperate unit of archers for similar points is a better investment. Personally in core I'm running 7 silver helms with war banner and a bsb with battle banner for a lot of static res, I think so far this is the best use of core and BSB I can think of.
Thanks for a really great and practical overview of the high elves for those returning! A nitpick though (sorry). Fairly certain that the 'chr' in Chrace is like in christmas, chrome or chronic, not pronounced Trace.
I will definitely be running 2, 20 man Seaguard 10x2, with a 4x4 Phoenix Guard centered behind them and revel the Phoenix guard when naval discipline is used. 20 Sisters and 2 Skycutters with nobles firing the bolt throwers mounted on them until its time to charge.
I’ve been playing High Elves for 35 years they were my favorite army. it’s crazy how many of the units are either auto take or never take. In a take on all comers list. There are so many units that you can never play just in case you come up against wood elves/magic missile gun line armies.
Level 4 mages are almost a must take in any game. Its too important to be able to dispel or cast and you dont want to be the one without a level 4 haha.
That's what the picture shows, but the actual rule just says you can add or deduct up to 5 models. And does not mention how they have to be arranged. Unless it is clarified in a different section of the book.
Archmage mount section says Archmages may take Moon Dragons and Star Dragon. I missed that too when in the prince section it says princes only. But its in the Archamage section.
The impetuous on the dragon princess is heartbreaking. The army is to elite have the points left over for units to babysit them. They’re just gonna need to sit on the shelf for this edition.
Agreed. Its a pain. Great eagles will be taken alot and can probably fill the roll of blocking, but then again who wants to put a great eagle at the front of a unit just to get shot off.
Run them on flanks. I had no issue using them Counter Charge is key. Make the opponents charge them and counter breaking them on the opponents turn then reform. Now you are in a great spot.
just make their checks, position properly and screen. Its the same as with Frenzied units (like warriors of khorne). you put a LOS blocker infront of them. For example a Great Eagle, Shadow Warriors or Ellyrian Reavers. once you are in position to strike (round 2-3) you draw away the screen and hammer in. Thats basicly how you played all frenzied cavalry since 6th edition and it didnt really hurt them. btw its pretty fluffy, they are just arrogant bastards that want to show off and that gets them.
Cannot reroll the Horn of Isha. Its in the faq. A: No. When a character attempts to use a special rule that requires them to make a Leadership test, they must use their own Leadership characteristic and, unless specifically stated otherwise, cannot use any additional special rules they themselves do not have.
@@oldworldfanatics it doesn’t state whether they are crew or not just that they can mount chariots from what I’ve seen, pretty safe to say that once they do faq this they will count as crew though
@@CatharsisChaser and with the way chariots work.. they will add to the wounds of the chariots making them 6 wounds as well. I had this thought too and the book says that in combat they use the characters WS but nothing about BS.

Bet the farm on your lvl4 holding them back (ideally with drain magic) and you can also put the loremaster’s cloak on a big block you want to keep alive with that sweet 4+ ward vs MM

Ithilmar armour allows mages to take magic armour imo. Just like how loremasters used to be able.
4:21 dragon princes will use hand weapons after the charge

Great as always gents. Another fantastic half hour show. Can’t wait for the next one.

Noble loremaster is a super fun combo, initiative 10 rerollable hammerhand followed up by 3 S6 ap2 swings is some scary stuff
Or ty for doppleganger

Redress is five models from the front rank, and it Has to be evenly taken from both sides. So three from one side and two from the other.
That's what the picture shows, but the actual rule just says you can add or deduct up to 5 models. And does not mention how they have to be arranged. Unless it is clarified in a different section of the book.
Yeah it’s just 5 and doesn’t explicitly say it has to be from both sides, just that all ranks must have equal numbers except the back

Boooooo! ;) I had just decided to try it, as I don't think you need to reform, as you want to be as wide as possible to maximize shots and attacks.
So I do not see anything preventing using the Ballistic skill of the Prince or Noble, in the skycutter to fire the Bolt thrower seems pretty good.
I wonder if the section in chariots where it mentions the crew use their BS etc. is the character crew I guess?

Not sure how I feel about the full plate change. They kind of handed it out like candy this edition and strangely took it away in others.

High elves looking really strong. Curious to see how they go against heavy magic missiles
Fingers crossed and two drain magics
I'm hoping.
