25:00 I don't think challenges were ever a thing in 40k, I think in older editions hand-to-hand combat was simple resolved on a base-to-base basis, and then later it was changed to a squad vs. squad basis to sure things up. AoS never had challenges because characters can't be embedded in units. I think you can assign attacks to anyone within 3" in melee, so if there's a character within 3" of your character you can assign attacks to them. I agree that whilst challenges are mostly used as a gamey thing, I'd miss it if they were removed. Memories of my Tyrion killer Black Orc Warboss on a boar in fifth edition (Hellfire Sword, Armour of Fortune, Crown of Sorcery) challenging my friend's Tyrion are too precious to sacrifice. Maybe you could stop allowing champions from making and accepting challenges, so challenges would either have to be accepted by a character, or your characters would have to retire to the rear ranks? Or champions can only accept them if there's no character? Something to stop the sacrificial champion role...
Great episode lads. As a person from the UK I’m sure Australia will set its own meta much like in 40K and then when you turn up to a WTC event both surprise us with your lists and make the losers drink shoeys to shame them!
The LGT results should be treated as an outlier becasue they treated hills as natural terrain pieces, giving an insane buff to the Bret armies with the Green Knight (which was most fo them.)
We regularly play 7 ed rb and 6ed AB. For the last 12 years here in Poland. Twice or 3 tomes a year we have tournaments with ppl from all around Poland.
To fix the issue with challenges being so abusable and make them more cinematic, bring back character classifications:- Unit champions Heros Lords New rule 1) A worthy Foe:- You can only issue challenges to characters of a level equal or higher than yours. New rule 2) You are all of you beneath me:- You can freely decline a challenge from a lower level enemy character. No more unit champions suicide challenging unwilling monster riding blender lords. (Not that dragon riding blenders need a buff)
Bigger communities doesn't mean more meta chasing. It means more of every type of player. And big events mean a bigger buffer between good and bad players, competitive and narrative etc. 40k only seems more meta-chasy because things get nerfed at the same time power creep gets worse.

ooo I like that! Sounds fun

To address your point about the game needing comp at some point. It was the comp in this event and Nova which made these lists dominate.
There is no comp at LGT.
@@jgascoine011yes there was. They changed how vortexs and the green knight worked.
Looking through the player list, I know 5 of the players. Never played any of them on ToW.

1:43:40 You can't use the great weapon if you have a magic weapon.
Haha yeah good point. I only just found this out. Cheers.
Motley crew is a good rule because it gives black orcs a 3 up save while using great weapons.
Yeah in that case it works decently.
I’d start with hobby, then questions and finish on the main topic… make people earn it
I think night goblins are pretty good vs bretonnia, they have a lot of AP and pegs still hate getting hit by fanatics.

Moab means what?
Mother of All Battles
It just proves that even the nova comp was not strict enough. 0 to 1 Pegasus knights. Max unit size 5 royal Pegasus loses 360 degree Los
Absolute clown show.
Flyin Circus has been broken since the start of the edition and typical of GW rules writing, absolutely dog 💩
