    This is EXACTLY what I was looking for!!! I’m so tired of seeing the seem in my hats. That makes it look imperfect. I can’t wait to try this this afternoon with a new skein of yarn I bought for a friend of mine. If this works, this will be my go-to pattern from now on! I’ll come back and give my results soon.

      Hi! Yes, you can make a seamless hat with single crochet. I do not have a pattern for a seamless winter hat, but I do have a pattern for a sc sunhat here: yayforyarn.com/summer-sunhat-crochet-pattern/ That pattern could be used with a different type of #4 worsted weight yarn to make a winter hat if you omit the brim. I hope this helps!

    Can you use the same method with a Half double crochet? I'm having trouble with it. The current pattern I'm working on for a witch hat is all HDC. Obviously the hidden slip stitch will work, but I'm having issues using your method for the beginning of a row

    • @YayForYarn
      @YayForYarn  Рік тому

      Hi Daniela. Yes, you can use this technique with a half-double crochet. If you don't feel comfortable with the chainless starting half-double crochet, I would suggest just doing a chain 1, half-double crochet in the same stitch to begin the round. Then, at the end of the round, you can do the invisible slip stitch into the top of that first half-double crochet stitch (not counting the chain 1 as a stitch). I hope this helps!

  • @Adrianaaaaaaaa
    @Adrianaaaaaaaa Рік тому

    Hi, I hope you can help me out here. Im trying to do a beanie similar to yours but instead of double crochet i want a half double crochet. Does this method work for half double? Im having issues with color change. If you have additional feedback on changing colors its much appreciated
    Thanks

    • @YayForYarn
      @YayForYarn  Рік тому

      Hi. Yes, this method does work for half double crochet, but it is a bit trickier, as the chainless starting half-double crochet is harder to work. To keep it simple, I would recommend starting the round with ch 1 (not counted as a stitch), then hdc in the same stitch the ch 1 was coming from instead of starting with a chainless starting half double crochet. You can then work the invisible slip stitch in the top of the first hdc of the round to join at the end of each round. However, if you're working in half-double crochet, you'll need to base your stitch counts and shaping increases on a pattern that is designed for half-double crochet. If you were to follow the exact stitches in this pattern, but switch it to half-double crochet instead of double crochet, it would create a hat with an ill-fitting shape. I hope this helps!

    • @YayForYarn
      @YayForYarn  4 роки тому

      Hi! You can use the same color-changing technique to change colors for every row. If you want to use a different color every time, you can just change colors as shown in the video, but cut the yarn and tie off the yarn tails, then weave in the ends. The actual pattern for making the hat will be the same. I hope this helps!

    Your method is amazing!! Though I am struggling with the 'second pull through two' - mine ends up loose and I just cannot master it!! 😭

    • @YayForYarn
      @YayForYarn  3 роки тому +1

      Hi! If your last loops are loose, try shortening the stretched loop at the beginning of the stitch a little bit. The length of the stretched loop is what determines the tension for the chainless stitch, so shortening that loop a little will help prevent it from being so loose. I hope this helps!

    I cant find your video on the chainless starting double crochet. I can do the round, but when I finish all the stitches it just continues to spiral. There doesnt seem to bee a need to join the rounds at the end. What step did I skip?

    • @YayForYarn
      @YayForYarn  3 роки тому

      Hi Carina. Here is a more in-depth tutorial of the chainless starting stitch method used in the round with stripes: ua-cam.com/video/UjSCCTPMM_I/v-deo.html
      This pattern is designed to be worked in individual rounds rather than a spiral, so you can add stripes without a jog. The starting chains and slip stitches normally used when working in rounds create a visible line that goes up the work. by using the chainless starting double crochet to replace the starting chain of each round, and by using the invisible slip stitch instead of a regular slip stitch, the join is made to blend into the fabric much better. If you ended up working in a spiral, I would guess that you may have either skipped the chainless starting double crochet, or your chainless starting double crochet may have been worked incorrectly, making it shorter than the other stitches. The chainless starting double crochet should be about the same size as the rest of the double crochet stitches, and there should be a distinct beginning of the round to join into. If you still have trouble with the technique, feel free to send me a photo at blogger[at]yayforyarn.com, and I will be happy to help troubleshoot. :)

      Hi Helene. This pattern is written for double crochet. If you would like to make a hat in half-double crochet, it would be best to use a pattern that is designed for half-double crochet. I hope this helps!

    What if you have to turn after each row?

      Hi Sheila. You can still use the Invisible Join method if you are turning the work after each round. The look is just slightly different than if you are not turning after each round, but it is still less visible than the normal method of beginning the round with a turning chain. I hope this helps!

    I couldn’t tell, but on Round 4…did she enter the 1St stitch from the BACK or FRONT? To my eyes, it looked like she inserted the crochet hook into the front stitch? I thought it was supposed to enter from the back first stitch. Anyone can clarify for me? Thanks 🙏🏼 I do like the Seamless Dbl. Crochet 🧶👌🏻

      Hi! When working the Invisible Slip Stitch, the hook should always enter the first stitch of the round from back to front. The video shows the hook joining Round 4 inserted from back to front. If you were to insert from front to back, the join would not be invisible. I hope this helps!

    My had turned out too big. It seemed to have too many increases in the top before starting just double crocheting. Thanks

      Hi Carol! Did you continue through all the rounds of the hat? As you continue working plain double crochet rounds, the shape of the hat will gradually smooth out and come down the sides neatly. During the first few plain double crochet rounds, though, it looks like the rounds without increases aren't making much difference, but if you work the rest of the double crochet rounds, it will create a smooth, fitted shape. I hope this helps!

    I can not tighten that last loop and it is not adjustable. The technique is wonderful but somehow I dead that last loop on the needle.

      Hi! Are you having trouble with the color change, or the tie off at the end? If you could clarify what part of the technique is not working for you, I would be happy to help!

      Hi! This pattern is designed for double crochet. If you want to make a hat with half-double crochet, you can just use a pattern that is worked in half-double crochet, and apply the invisible join technique: ua-cam.com/video/UjSCCTPMM_I/v-deo.html Hope this helps!

    I don't know what I'm doing wrong! The CSDC I stretch to DC height and hold with finger while twisting around-- when I go to last part of CSDC the finished part has large floppy part, not at all neat on top like yours! I've tried several times and the same thing happens so what am I doing wrong?

      Hi! How much you stretch the loop determines the tension of the stitch, since you're not pulling yarn from the skein. If the top of the stitch is a bit loose, try stretching the loop slightly less. That will help get rid of that little bit of extra yarn length at the top. I hope this helps!
