No music, no 4 minute intro and no long talk, simply straight to the crocheting! Great video thank you
Right?! ❤
Big facts
What size is this?
I totally agree, we need more like her❤😂
These were thorough instructions on how to crochet a beanie; I appreciated you bringing in the camera closer when you showed the front and back posts and I was able to see where you were placing the hook better, thank you. A very good tutorial.
this was so nice. i made this and it came out awesome my mom loves it so much. i wish i had seen this video the first time i was making a beanie. but honestly this is so amazing and very easy to follow
THE CAT's tail!!! Yes, I couldn't help but to notice the cat's tail moving, perhaps wanting your attention? I did watch the whole video, very well explained and easy to understand. I am excited to try it now!
There’s gotta be a yarn rule here or something because I used this pattern with an average thinner yarn and it worked perfectly but I just came to this vid to make another beanie with a slightly thicker yarn (I know I did the stitches accurately) and my beanie came out huuuuuge, super wide and wasn’t decreasing at the bottom. I literally had a huge crochet bowl. I ended up undoing the whole thing to save the yarn. I’m super bummed cause I thought it was gonna go smoothly like the first time I did it :( I don’t even want to try this pattern again in fear that it’ll start doing the same thing. I don’t wanna gamble whether my piece turns out or not, ya know??
My beanie came out really big too. Way to big for my head
I had this same problem I don’t understand why my beanies don’t decrease at the bottom they just keep growing and I’m not adding stitches
So for the thicker yarn I just double one row of doubles, one row of 1 single and one double, and a row of 2 singles and one double, and then I went to all single double crochet rows. And it turned out the right size.
Hola! Busque por mucho tiempo como hacer un lindo gorro y te encontre , lo hice paso a paso como tu muestras y me quedo hermoso .saludos desde Chile 🇨🇱
Best tutorial. Thank you.
Pretty yarn!
What adjustments do I have to make for this hat to fit a 9yo boy?
It should fit.
What size yarn n hook are you using?
5mm
Hi. Quick question. Do you think I can add a faux fur pom pom to this beanie as is or should I add more rounds? Thank you!
This has to be the best crochet video I’ve seen. No BS just clear instructions on what to do and how. PLEASE keep making videos like this ❤
I have crocheted 5 beanies this Christmas season and this is the most accurate, best fitting, easy and easy to follow pattern yet. Thank you Mindfulknots!!!!!
You are so welcome!

@@MindfulKnots can I use different yarns or will the size change too much? I have some Caron cotton and some 3 weights by other brands...not to light but a little thinner than landscapes
Hey Julie, I’m using a much thicker yarn and don’t need to do as many increasing rounds. Could you tell me the diameter of the crown in either centimetres or inches? I think I might only need to to do 4 or 5 increasing rounds.
Any advice is much appreciated.
Future comments for myself if I make this one again & of coarse if it helps someone, that's always good.
This one was alot of trial & error for me with this; I fixed it over and over until I liked it. I like the outcome alot now.
2 comments were really helpful.... one about removing 1 row of increase rounds.... and another about creating a chain to measure the circumference required for the head. So thank you to those people for those inspirations.
I decided to just use a piece of yarn to measure my head circumference (bc I don't have time to count stitches). I pulled off 1 increase round and it was still too big, so I pulled off a second. Once the rim of this circle I had crocheted matched the size I want the brim to be, I started building regular DC stitches to get the height (stopped increases). But thing is.... she does 10 regular + 4 fpdc/bpdc for the brim..... I only needed 7 rows (once it was about to my hairline, for reference) then added 4 rows of fpdc/bpdc for the border. And that is visual preference, it could have worked with 8 rows of dc and 3 rows of fpdc/bpdc for a smaller rim if you don't want it that thick on the border. Anyway.
So for me, I did....
Size 4 yarn
Size H (5mm) hook
R1: The original circle with 10 dc
R2: 2 in each
R3: 1,2 pattern
R4: 1,1,2 pattern
R5: 1,1,1,2 pattern
R6-R12: 1 only
R13-R16: fpdc/bpdc for brim
This worked for me personally. Hopefully this is enough info to help anyone troubleshoot who is struggling too.
You are a god send!!!
Thank you!!!!
Thank you 🙏🏻
Thank you so much! 💜
Thank you! I didn't know what size hook to use and yarn weight. This comment is very helpful!
What would happen if I made this with thinner yarn? I bought this beautiful yarn from James C Brett. It says it’s DK but it’s thinner than the other DK yarn I’ve had in the past. I love this pattern but I don’t want to mess up the yarn if I have to unpick it if it doesn’t work out 😭
It’s hard to say! You may need to adjust hook size or amount of rows
Thank you for the reply. I gave it shot and on the second try I got it right. In case it helps anyone else, here’s what I did:
Begin exactly as shown in the video (but using 4mm hook).
Increase stitches for 2 extra rounds (so it will end up being every 6th hole, insert 2 double crochet, and then next round, every 7th hole, insert 2 double crochet)
Then I went around 11 times doing a double crochet in each hole, as shown in video.
Then for the brim, I did 8 rows of front/back post stitch also as shown. This made a hat that fits my head nicely (adult woman).
Thank you for the awesome video!!
idk what i did wrong but mine is not curving at all its like a mat totally flat
Same, I think the stitches are just not tight enough, because I have done this before and it turned out perfectly
@@danielle5355 You might be increasing when you shouldn't. Count the number of stiches after each round where you need to increase. I think that here we're supposed to go 10, 20, 30, 40, etc. Good luck!
This video is too fast for beginners and I don't follow at all.
I’ve followed this tutorial so many times it’s so underrated,, it makes the cutest beanies ever and now o strictly use this pattern for them,,, good job girl
can we begin with magic circle?
@@leom446 yes I make mine with a MC
Thank you so much!
How much time did it take for you to complete?
@@leom446
Yes you can, because it is magic....😄
I am an absolute beginner and big proctastinator and this is the first piece I was able to finish EVER 😁 it was so much fun and I loved making it. Your tutorial was amazing and super easy to follow, I'm totally gonna make a second one!
I just started crocheting several weeks ago. This is the first beanie tutorial I've been able to complete successfully! I was able to make this in several hours! Thank you so much!!
I do what to make a quick note that almost no crocheter brings up when crocheting in the round. Start every other row off with an increase stitch (2 DC into the same stitch) If you don’t do this, but rather start all rows off with the appropriate number of 1 DC into each stitch first, all of the increase stitches will be aligned and you will end up with a hexagon instead of a circle. I keep it simple and I begin the pattern with an increase stitch on every even numbered row. So here is what I mean. Let’s say we’re starting at row 4.
Row 4 has a repeating pattern of one DC per stitch for 2 stitches, then 2 DC into the third stitch
Row 5 has a pattern of one DC per stitch for 3 stitches and then 2 DC into the 4th stitch
Row 6 has a pattern of one DC per stitch for 4 stitches and then 2 DC into the 5th
According to most in the round videos, row 4 will begin with one DC into the first 2 stitches and row 5 will also begin with one DC into the first 3 stitches. In fact, every row starts with this portion of the pattern. Do not do this. Start row 4 with 2 DC into the very first stitch and then do one DC into the next 2 stitches and so on. Row 5 will begin with one DC into the first 3 stitches, then 2 DC into the 4th stitch and on. Row 6 is an even numbered row, so start with the increase stitch of 2 DC into the first stitch then one DC into each of the next 4 stitches.
I hope this helps out any beginners who stumble across this video because this tip seems to be the biggest secret that crocheters gatekeep and I don’t know why.
THANK YOU!! Before finding your video I was spending days watching atleast 5 different videos back to back on replay just trying to figure how to get that first little loop we need😭🤦♀️it took me only a couple hours to FINISH a beanie with your video! Thank youuu sm my fingers and back appreciate you more then you know lol😇😇💓
HI!I i have just have got into crocheting and i'm ten and this is going soooo well
this pattern is very underrated,it consists of basic stitches so it was super easy to do
and you explained it so well! this helped me a lot,and i am so happy with the outcome, thanks!!!
wow i though i was the only child that crcohets- anyway thats cool that your 10 im 13 how long have you been crocheting? ive been crocheting for about 3 years now
I love to see when young people get into crocheting. My daughter somehow thought she had to sneak into my crochet things when she was 5. She made a sleeping bag for her Barbie doll without a pattern and she is now 32 and is wonderful at crocheting. Way to go you!
@@rng813 hi im also 13 and I also love to crochet!!! I also thought I was the only child....
After watching this video I tried same for me. The result is amazing. Thank you❤ so much
How much time did it take for you to complete?
i don’t get this tutorial at all, it’s much too fast and i can’t see where she inserts the hook i wish she explained more and used light wool… 😫 i want to recreate this so bad but it’s impossible
Love the pattern. Would help tremendously to know how many stitches should be total after each row so we don't accidentally add or drop stitches! Thank you!
Yes please
Hi! Since we start with 10 double crochets(DC), each row should have 10 more stitches than the previous row.
For eg: row 2 will have 20 (two DC in each stitch), row 3 will have 30 (1DC and then 2DC in the next stitch), row 4 is 40, and so on till it fits your head, and then we add the ribbing
Hope this helps!

Exactly I was just thinking the same thing, because I’m notorious for adding stitches , I must count them
@@ShehzeenKhan13 it does thank you very much! Because I must count stitches or I’d have a messed project
Thanks for the tutorial making my first beanie without any trouble. Love the tutorial and the close up on the stitches 👍👍👍 easy to follow for a beginner.
I think I will go back to building rockets looks easier. I will just go to Kmart for a beanie. Lol
I swear I followed this exactly but the hate is huge. I used a 4 medium yarn with a 5mm and it’s like twice the size!
Really sorry to hear that, but sometimes little changes or improvisation change the final outcome, I am also a beginner but face sometimes the same situation. Good luck
Please slow down. It doesn't help while you show us how fast you can crochet.
I made my mom a bunch of these because she went through chemo for breast cancer and her hair has never been the same. Now she's not so embarrassed to go out in public.
THANK YOU💗🙏💗🙏💗🙏💗🙏💗🙏
I'm so happy to hear this! Blessings to you and your mother!
Wow! I'm a newbie and I followed this pattern and made two beanies easily! I used the Lion yard for my second one and it came out so much nicer!
Thanks for this tutorial! I'm going to make a bunch more to give as Christmas gifts.
How much time did it take for you to complete?
@@marva2163 with my speed, i finished in an hour.
Does the last four rows decrease the hat? Ive noticed there's no decreasing.
I’m at6:35; why is my hat still flat? Can anyone give me some direction?
the video states one set of instructions & the paid for pattern from Etsy states another set of instruction. So frustrating . These hats are turning out HUGE. I have to tear them apart again. **update. I am strictly following this video . it's coming together smaller.
Hey thanks for your amazing video. Quick question, I think I am following exaclt what you are suggesting and my hat in growing in size but it not getting round yet. it stays flat.. any idea why??
Same thing is happening to me 😭
same happening here. i am following and about 6 minutes through. i am wondering if it's because i am using a chunky wool and needle?
I love how clear you make the process . Something that seemed so tricky makes sense with your tutorial. Question though, what size would this be considered and how do you adjust the sizing for smaller or larger heads?
There are charts showing how big to make the top of the hat for different sized heads. I think I looked up diameter of a hat. When you reach the indicated diameter, you quit increasing and switch to the crochet stitch you are working in. Hope that helps.
Super sad just finished the beanie and it is way to large would recommend cutting back on the stitches :(
I like this but I don’t know if it’s very beginner friendly. It’s just a bit confusing.
This is a fantastic little tutorial!!! I've been crocheting for almost a year now, watched many UA-cam videos, done my fair share of diverse projects and learned to read patterns along the way. I wish everyone did their tutorials like this! You can follow whether you're a beginner or more experienced crocheter. It's not to slow or too fast paced. It's just, so well done.
I totally agree! She did a perfect, straight forward and simple tutorial!
How much time did it take for you to complete?
So how long does it take you to complete a beanie for beginners?
What have I done??! Followed this exactly and can’t understand why my beanie is so huge..it would fit over Bob Marley’s locks…mmm..can’t figure out what I’ve done….
What is the ending length of the beanie and what head size is this pattern for?
wondering the same thing
Are there different sizes for adults and children
Why did my cap is getting wider?? Can anybody help??
Beginner friendly my ass
Hi, I am having alot of trouble with this tutorial. My 1st day attempt turned out toddler size so I unpicked it. I don't understand how you got it fit you with the sizing shown. I am using 5mm hook with standard ball of yarn
I felt it was a good easy pattern, however, it was huge. I followed directions exactly and spent hours crocheting to be disappointed. I frogged entire hat and saved yarn
I feel as if I have followed this tutorial wrong or something I’m not done yet I’m at the part of doing ten rows but my hat looks like a flower and doesn’t seem to be closing downward
I have had the crochet skill but never made anything. This is the third thing I’ve made and I’m currently following along with your video & it is sooo easy. I can’t wait to finish this one and make more! ❤️
I LOVE this tutorial. There is no unnecessary talking for the sake of loving to hear your own voice. You explain things in a matter of fact way without constantly stumbling over your own words due to your mouth going faster than your brain and feeling the need to fill every moment with noise. Many crochet content creators will not edit out their word stumbling, so it makes it difficult to understand what they’re trying to say. Again, I believe they just love to hear themselves talk. I’ve been trying to find a simple tutorial to learn crocheting in the round and the incessant chatter from all the videos I have watched until this one made it difficult to focus. Thank you for getting straight to the point and only conveying what’s important. I now understand the pattern for increases in the round. You have a new subscriber.
What size hook are you using???????
is it just me? i am not following along very well. i am new to crochet terms and basically have to watch everything to understand how to do it. it seems like it is so fast paced. help lol!
maybe i chose the wrong yarn and color to be a newbie? dark and a #6 weight wirh a 5mm hook?
i did it! it is NOT perfect but i have a hat! yay, thank you for the video
Super helpful and illustrative! I was trying to wing it from another pattern and kept increasing when I didn't mean to... watching this, I immediately recognized what I was doing wrong. Thanks!
Yes a great tutorial Just a comment for any other teachers. Please pause at the end of a row and please say what the number of the next row is ie. (Row 6 will be 1 single DC into the next 5 stitches followed by a 2 Dc in the next stitch. Repeat.) I must admit that once I've lost my place I need to reorient from the start of a row. Obviously I'm fairly new at this so my wording isn't good but if the words run into each other the order gets lost. Thank You .
Love this pattern so much! Just made my first one and I’m so happy with the outcome! Thank you!
This is the best beanie tutorial I have seen in a while. I have made 4 today and still making them. I donate my crocheting to homeless veterans in my area. Thank you
This is one of the best videos , clear instructions and no nonsense and i can see exactly where the hook is going!
Thank you! This was my first project! Very easy to follow and my hat came out great!
I am almost done with my very first beanie! I am a newbie to crochet and u were one of the easiest and easy to follow how to videos I found! Excited to learn more!
can i have a chart, pls?
Is there a written version of this pattern anywhere?
Thanks for helping me make my first crochet hat. Your tutorial is so easy to follow and understand.
I love this video. I’ve watched it several times to make multiple hats.
Just finished my first bennie from your tutorial, I cut back on a few rounds just to fit my head, I love the outcome, definitely will use this again an again...Thank you much!
I had to cut out 5 rows. It makes a huge hat. I love it. Will be using this pattern again.
How much time did it take for you to complete?
This video is awesome! thanks! God bless!🥰
Mine is just not bending, its just a flat circle
Used this pattern and my hat ended up being huge. I decided to trust the process and put in another hour for a hat that’s unwearable. :/
The stitches are off try "bag o day" beanie tutorial
its hard to form the ring
This was by far the easiest tutorial to follow for a beanie that I've found so far. I was making one for an adult male, so I ended my last round of increases with 9 double crochets followed by an increase every 10th stitch. Then I crocheted 5 rounds without increases followed by 3 rounds of the pattern she uses at the bottom. It fit perfectly!
Omg I love this. Direct to the point no time waste this is great and so simple explanation no over explanation or complication.👏🏻
This is waaaaay too big 😢
I love this look. If there was anyway to edit the video so at each round it showed how many stitches should be completed that would be so helpful for the memory impaired of us 😅
Great tutorial but this beanie is HUGE!
your pattern is very easy to follow but my beanie turned out more like a bucket than a hat :')
I don't know what I did wrong. I followed your exact pattern and my crochet hook is 5 mm
easy & fun pattern, thank you for slowing down when teaching front post & back post, I couldn’t get those two down but ur example was perfect to understand, Thank You !!!
If you ever need to slow a video down (not this one it's perfect) UA-cam has the option under the three dots in the top right hand corner to slow the video. That's how I learned to crochet.
What's the hook size? And size for person?
Great tutorial! But..question am I still chaining 2 on each of the 10 rows or just the first row?
This looks amazing.. Could you share the size of yarn and hook..
What size hook are you using??? Try being through!!!!!
Too fast
Such a lovely teaching voice. Trying to teach myself to crochet. What could go wrong? Ten minutes in, I’m still on the slip knot. The "yarn over" description is perfect for beginners. Now if I could get that far. Thanks for putting this together. Did I see a kitty walk past there?
Excellent video. Thank u so much. Quick question though. How do i make this for a baby. Like a nb and 1 year old. Should i start doing doing one single crochet in each stitch like after row4 or row3 ?
I loved this. Very easy to follow and the Lion Brand Landscapes yarn in Boardwalk has such beautiful colors. Mine seemed larger than the one on the video. What should the width and length be approximately?
I had the same issue my hat came out really large any advice on what to do to remedy that. The pattern and the video were very easy to follow.
Same mine became double the size and I followed the same pattern
All depends on tension of you stitches.
What size hook
My beanie just ended up being really wide..help?
Thank you for making this video, this was my first successful crochet project and I was able to give it to my grandma who liked it a lot! This was a great tutorial with good explanations :D
So i used this video as my guide to make my very first hat!
And idk if I just have the smallest adult head ever, but it's too big :( how do I adjust it so that next time my final product doesn't come out so big?
Same! I've made 2 Bennie's with different size yarn and there both to big 😞 I love this pattern as it's super easy but I'm a newbie to and don't know how to adjust for sizing.
I wish you would have included a gauge so I could use other yarn weights to make this hat.
Finished mine. I used thicker yarn so I had to adjust the amount of increases and rows. I like this pattern. With some simple adjustments this pattern would can work with almost any weight of yarn.
She said "You Will" and you know? I did.
This is great for beginners thank you so much I love this ! God bless
I am a beginner and love this pattern! I have made a few beanies already and they turned out great! I want to make another but need it to be a little bigger (wider). Any idea how many additional double crochets I should add to the first row? I don't want it to be too big. Thanks!
Use a J hook it becomes a lot bigger for a man or a woman who has thick hair. Or a big head.
I love that you jump right into what is needed.
I love the colour of yarn choice.
I like hearing the soumd of the yarn as the crochet hook weaves its way through the pattern.
The patyern is nice and I have learned enough stitches to complete the project.
I must not leave out the warm and friendly visitor who was in the video for their cameo appearance.
Blessings upon you and your loved ones. Thank you for sharing
mine ended up so big for some reason 😭
I did mine wrong and it’s huge and will have to become a tote bag lmfao
Mine right now looks like a doiley it's fun making it and me and my dad are having great fun trying it and hey it's my first hat so I'll be wearing it with pride 🎉
I love how simple you have made this to follow. Most people over talk it. You just state the facts. It is a great beanie and I love the band. Do you think I could use a heavy weight yarn for it? Just wondering.
Has anyone had a problem with them being too big?
Hi! I’ve tried this tutorial twice now, and n both of them have ended up too big. Any ideas what I’m doing wrong?
Mine is massive and I’m not sure what size hook is used or the weight of the yarn in the tutorial. I’m using a bulky yarn with a 4mm hook as stated on the skein label.
Super easy but HUGE!!!!!
Thank you sm for such a great tutorial! I’m a beginner and I haven’t been that proud of my projects. But I finished my hat last night and I cannot believe I made it myself! It’s so beautiful and I’m so proud of it. The tutorial was so helpful and straightforward.
