I like the long term usage reports. They are extremely helpful especially for expensive items. When you don't have a lot of money to spare it's nice to know whether something is going to stand the test of time before you buy it. Keep these coming!

If it's not already been mentioned, an update to Logitech G Hub allows you to pair both the G915 keyboard and a compatible Lightspeed mouse (G Pro Wireless / Superlight) to the keyboard's receiver, meaning you now only need one dongle for both keyboard and mouse.

I bought a G915 for work in mid 2020 and am super happy with it. The shortcut keys were a big seller for me along with the wireless capability and tactile low profile keys. I am a GIS analyst and programmer so I use a lot of shortcuts for software and do a lot of typing when writing code. Even though it is expensive, if this keyboard ever fails I would definitely buy another one (assuming I get 3-4 years out of it at least)

I've got the wired G815 version of this keyboard for 10 months now and still loving mine. I've had 0 complaints about it since day 1 and still love using it to this day to game on. The num pad, volume wheel, and multimedia keys all work great for me since I'm someone who wanted all of them along with the USB passthrough. Given my want for the USB passthrough and not really caring about wireless, the wired version was the way to go for me since it was cheaper too at only $150 w/ tax when I got it.
The keycaps is the one thing too I do feel that will wear over time as expected since these are ABS keycaps and I did notice when looking back then too that there really didn't seem to be many options too as you noted given the non standard low profile keycap design these use with their switches. If it gets to that point, I'll probably try to order replacement caps too, but then again my last keyboard with the G710+ I lived with work keycaps till I replaced it with this after like 4-5 years of use.

I wish there will be more 3rd party keycaps though to at least combat this ABS keycaps that does get shine overtime, which is really just the 2 disappointing part of it. Other one is the 2nd characters don't have backlight, due to switch design.

I've had mine for almost a year now and it's been perfect for me! I do both gaming and schoolwork so the low-profile meachanical swiches really come in handy. Using the multimedia keys for music control and the lightspeed technology is amazing. The battery life is also incredible just as he stated in the video, charge it once a month with 2-4 hours daily use! The only downside I've found so far is the keycaps. Not only do they slowly start to polish and wear out, but they can often feel very plasicy and cheap. The switches themsevles are great, but I truly wish the keycaps were either DoubleShot PBT or had better stabalization as they do rattle around when shaking the keyboard! Other than that, Iv'e enjoyed this keyboard in every way. The metal housing is very solid, the buttons and volume knob are very usful, this keyboard is a real beasttt

    • @menglingtian6472
      @menglingtian6472 2 роки тому +1

The rattle is due to the design of low profile choc switches - you cant have a stiff keycap stem unlike regular MX-style keycaps because the switch is designed to only accept 2 thin stem legs. Without the give, it becomes really easy to crack the keycap legs.
Also low-profile switches don't really help with gaming, contrary to what manufacturers market them as. It's honestly just a matter of personal preference and you can always adjust to regular MX style switches after a period of prolonged usage.

Completely removes it now and works wonderfully. The range problem might be related to the fact your tower is entirely unshielded on the side and is facing the keyboard. Not sure if it's still a thing but motherboards were once considered an RFI hazard because they broadcast RF noise like crazy. Could be a factor.

Anyone with a single-coil guitar will tell you that any PC is a gigantic beacon of RFI.
But even in the most intense RFI situations a wireless keyboard/mouse shouldn't have that much trouble with it, unless you have like a microwave oven with the door open and safeties removed pumping out hundreds of watts of EM radiation. The couple of milliwatts that come from a PC shouldn't interfere at all, no matter the shielding.
I do remember with an old logitech wireless mouse the range was horrible unless I pointed the mouse at a wall and bounced the wireless signal off of it. As in, you really needed line-of-sight with the dongle (which jay doesn't appear to have in the setup-shot), or have a bright wall where the RF can bounce off (which jay also doesn't have).

I fully expected to need the extension cable for my G305, as my case has thick steel panels and is on the right of my desk.
Ended up just using the dongle in a rear USB port on my motherboard and I couldn't tell any difference in latency between the G305 and my old wired G502.
Tried a few click response tests (granted, these are affected by my 60Hz panel and my reaction time) and the score was equal if not better.
I wonder if the problem on Jay's setup is not the wireless noise in the room but the thick panel covering the rear I/O. That extra panel on the InWin 925 is *thicc*

I just purchased this keyboard, and so far I absolutely love it! It's a huge step up for me from my Logitech K540 keyboard (wireless office keyboard). I love the RGB on the G915, and the fact you can have the RGB colors change with sound visualization. That RGB mode does drain more battery, but I still don't have to recharge more than every second week. For me, this keyboard makes it easier to not mistype when writing, and that's while I'm still getting used to typing on it. And for gaming it feels really good and responsive. I have the tactile variant, and like the fact that you got a little bit resistance in your key presses, meaning you need to press the keys properly down for it to register, which will lead to less mis-pressing of the keys. The keyboard feels very sturdy and solid, and I feel like it's gonna last me many hours of typing and gaming before it gets worn out. It's well worth it's price!

  • @SpeedingWheelbarrow

    This was great to see!
From the second I saw this keyboard I fell in love with it and I wanted one really bad and you original review mixed with Linus' first impressions really sold me on pulling the trigger. Jay loved it and from what I remember Linus' only real complaint was that it was full size and not TKL.
So I went to Canada Computers and they did let me do a quick typing test to try out the switches before pulling the trigger as I am super picky on how my switched feel and on the pitch of the click (I am also a huge clicky fan) and to my delight these feel an sound just about perfect for me.
I don't get to do much typing these days so I get really excited when I get the chance to type something out like I'm doing now because I will take off my headphones and just enjoy the typing experience. The feel and the sound!!
I also have a wireless mouse and a wireless headset and I have not noticed any of the interference issues that Jay has dealt with so I can't speak on that.
Like Jay, I very much enjoy full size keyboards. But after about a year with my G915 I did get the G915 TKL for two reasons
    1. I had a setup change and I just don't have the desk space for a full size right now
    2. The TKL has a couple serious improvements that were my my only real complaints about the original.
It's now short enough to fit in my bag and be portable for if I want to game at a buddies house or type something out at a coffee shop.
The TKL has a built in slot for the wireless dongle so a second point in portability. (the original did not and that sucked)
Another nice addition is that it has on top of having less keys to be lit and drain battery, it also has a bigger battery than the original so the battery life is just ridiculous at this point.
It doesn't have macro keys any more which I honestly like the look of better but if you need macros you can change the f keys to be macros so I have more macros than on my original G915 but I just keep the only 2 f keys that I use as f keys (f4 and f5) but if you use more of the f keys you could just have less macros.
With the upgrades to the TKL the only actual complaint I have left is that it charges through usb micro b logitech has a bad habit of not embracing usb c and it sucks especially on expensive products like this.
with my mouse it's a non issues because I have the powerplay mouse mat under my desk pad so my mouse is always kept between 60 and 90% and I don't think about it. but with the keyboard it really does suck when I do charge it. I do not have my battery life nearly as long as Jay does
Mine gets charged every 2 or 3 weeks I did extend my sleep time to 10 mins which for sure is where my battery is going but 1 min was too short for me and it was annoying IMO.

When I was young and had no money, I got a 15€ Logitech mouse. In 2 months the middle button broke, and in 6 the left one. I opened it to fix it and it had a different which at each button. The middle one was so cheap it had no branding, the right one was visibly junk with a chines branding and the left one looked better, but was the same no name Chinese junk. Imagine that! They chose a different switch for each button to maximize profits, spending money only on the left click they knew you would use, and put a bottom of the barrel junk in the middle knowing most people never press it. Absolutely disgusting. I never bought anything else Logitech, and never going to.

The dropout issue (4:45) is due to RF interference coming from the USB 3.x ports on the back of the case (not a wireless range issue). The USB 3.x interface is known to cause interference in the 2.4GHz frequency band (which is what the dongle uses). You can mitigate this by distancing the dongle from the USB 3.x ports (via a USB extender, or move to an area with only USB 2.0).

For the dongle problem: I've pulled the charging cable to the back of my monitor. There I hooked it up with a little adhesive cablemanagement thing (kind of a small rubber button).
This gives the advantage of easy access to the cable if needed and you can also have your dongle hanging right at the back of the monitor.
With this setup I don't get any range problems at all.

One thing I do on my 815 with the macro buttons which I never considered until recently was to use the macro buttons to run actual software or executables. I often switch between my headset and my speakers and if I'm in a game it's a bit painful to have to tab out of it or press windows key, go to the sound sources and then scroll through the entire list, so I made a quick batch file that switched my audio output between the headset and the speakers and I put it into the M3 macro set which I don't have on by default so I don't accidentally trigger it. It's a huge quality of life thing that the Logitech Software makes possible.

loved the review. watched like tons of them but your video helped me decide to get the G815 wired one. one of the huge battles I have with wireless keyboard is the range. I have a messy setup at my place and I freaking hated the fact that I had to kinda point the dongle toward the keyboard (keeping a clear field) to avoid typing interruptions. Even though I have multiple devices (pc, Mac, iPad, etc), highly unlikely I'll be working on anything else than my PC. using a keyboard for iPad sounds like a cool idea but not really practical. Besides there's a latency with bluetooth which just bugs me out all the time. All in all, thanks for the great review - very detailed, very practical, the best one I've watched for a long time. Eight to nine year review of the G510s: I am still in love with this wired keyboard. Thankfully, I bought two of them way back when as they are now nearly impossible to find or amazingly overpriced for used or reconditioned. (I am not paying twice the price of what I paid new for a used one.) There are a lot of features that I don't use on this keyboard, but the G keys (there are 18 with three modes making them actually 48) are so very useful to me for gaming and graphics work that I would be lost without them.

I see that on G915 spacebar has only one switch and wondering if this problem exists again. I've had the TKL Tactile version of this keyboard for just over a year now, and the battery life is probably the best thing to me about it. I have a G703 Lightspeed as my mouse and I have to charge it about 5x more often than I do my keyboard, which is insane considering I charge my mouse about every 2-3 weeks! A note about your range issues, it may just be the environment you are in or the stuff around. I have my PC at about the same distance as the picture shown, but my tower is on the floor, so it may be a bit more distance and with the top of my desk blocking the receiver's line of sight. I've had no issues with dropout. Heck, I've even use my keyboard on my bed which is an additional 6 feet away from my tower and no connection issues. And no, I am not using a cable extender for my receiver.

I wanted to love this keyboard as much as you do, since I really liked the design and typing on it. I bought the G915 with tactile Switches and a German layout some time ago. The key caps started wearing down within two months, not becoming shiny/polished like you showed, rather the paint coming off on some keys (for example on the edge of the A key and the face of the S key). One of the clips on the left arrow key broke shortly after.
I returned it and thought I'd maybe just gotten a bad sample and ordered a G815 as a replacement (since I didn't end up needing the wireless functionality). I've had this one for the better part of a year now and it's showing the same signs of wear already as well. The letter on the S key is just one big spot at this point, with the paint coming off. The A and shift keys also show signs of wear. I'm not a hardcore gamer, I effectively use it some eight or so hours a day for work, uni and gaming. I'd say I'm rather careful with it, I don't move it around a lot etc., I don't use it with greasy fingers from eating or whatever. So I don't see why a 200€ keyboard should show these signs of wear after less than a year.
Replacement keycaps are only available from random no-name brands that noone's ever heard of and I don't really trust to do a better job on quality.
So, take that for what it's worth, but I've definitely had my fair share of issues with this board. If I didn't like typing on it as much as I do I'd have probably gotten a new keyboard by now.
Oh, and another note: I personally absolutely hate the G Hub app. It's a pain to use, it's a pain to configure on-board profiles, half of the features are useless or don't work very well. It's just a plain mess in my opinion. Again, might just be my experience, but I configured it once (meaning setting a fixed color on the on-board, which took way longer than it should have) and uninstalled the app.

I bought the G915 in September 2020 and I love it. Mine’s the same as Jay’s as I need a number pad & I have the G keys set up as shortcuts & macros for when I’m on Zoom calls. I agree with there being no noticeable lag with the Lightspeed receiver; Bluetooth has been handy for connecting to my work laptop now I work from home but it’s definitely not as fast.
Keys do get worn but as mentioned they mostly polish in reaction to skin oils and considering mine gets a solid 8-14 hours of use every day (with few exceptions), it’s not as bad as previous keyboards I’ve had. Battery life is good but in my experience not as much as Jay gets - probably a couple of weeks for me, but then mine may get used a lot more.
Definitely would recommend & worth the money!

Im using G910 v2. The first one (v1) went bad because LED's partially failed (blue ones died on some keys) and it developed a double click issue on several keys. Also the arrow keys started to lose labels as they wore out (i dont use WASD). It's high time for Logitech to move from ABS caps to PBT caps. Atleast on keyboards that cost over 200. If not for all caps then atleast WASD, arrow keys, spacebar, enter, bacspace and a few others.

I don't take my keyboard anywhere so made sense not to go for wireless. But everything else is the same as the G915, and i absolutely love it to this day, the keys are nice, the programme to change settings and RGB is amazingly simple and easy to use and all the functionality buttons are not just what you need and feel great! I use it or streaming and game every day and sometimes work from home with it too and the key caps are showing slight degrading now like yours but that will happen with anything you use over time anyway so it just is what it is when using something so much. Perfect piece of kit. I have random issues with Logitech's software (and always have) and that can get really annoying but it's only rarely.
