Muscular Dystrophy has so far been seen as incurable. But for the first time there are
grounds for hope because of a new tool from the genetic laboratory: ‘Crispr’ enables
scientists to alter the genomes of all living organisms faster, more economically and more
precisely than ever before. “Crispr" will revolutionise medicine, says paediatrician Ronald
Cohn.
He’s working in Toronto on a new therapy that could save Gavriel and thousands of
other children along with him. ‘Crispr’ can also be used to give plants completely new characteristics: resistance against pests or drought. In the US the first Crispr plants are already in the fields.
Even some organic farmers see new opportunities in the innovative breeding method and have doubts whether the total rejection of genetic engineering they’ve espoused till now is still justified.
Othersare warning about new dangers. They’re afraid of opening Pandora’s Box and interfering
with evolution. The new technology, after all, could not only cure diseases and produce new
seeds, but also create designer babies in the future.
For the first time, genome interventions are possible, which until now have been merely utopian dreams or horror scenarios.
Just how great are the opportunities and the risks? The film looks for answers in Germany,
the US and Canada. After more than a year’s research, visiting geneticists, physicians, patients and plant breeders, filmmaker Claudia Ruby reveals what is already happening in laboratories and clinics, in greenhouses and trial fields without the knowledge of the public at large. The film interviews both supporters and opponents, who are all agreed on one thing at least: an intensive public discussion is urgently needed. Because ‘Crispr’ can dramatically affect all our lives.

Curious to know what if any role childhood vaccines might play in these rare diseases?
@robinwavestou5526- When I was a kid, I had maybe ten shots ( or less) that had to be taken. They weren't given 'til the child was at least 6 years old. Now, it's my understanding that approx 60 different vaccines are being given to kids BEFORE they reach the age of 6 years. Has anyone researched this ? I have no idea.

It's hard to just blame the vaccines.
Over use of antibiotics has an impact on our brain, especially knowing that our brain still develops till we're nearly 30 years old.
We have toxic dyes present in our clothes, chemicals in leather shoes, furniture, floor varnishes, glue in wooden cutting boards, Teflon frying pans, plastic cooking utensils people use to stir food whist cooking and the list goes on and on!
We assume if something is sold in shops, it's safe to use and that's completely wrong!

Studied this were only theories in the 1990's, the scientist earned a Noble Peace Prize and this will change so much for the better. Educate your kids with Math, Science and Physics and it explains everything in our natural world.

Crispr is genetic modification. It is just a different technique being used to genetically modify something. So here's my question, as I am not an expert in the field. Is GM corn less nourishing than regular corn ? If it is the same, then what is the problem with doing the same to other crops, but using the Crispr technique instead? When it comes to fixing a gene in a human body, it should be up to the person who is being fixed and no one else. I remember DMD from the Jerry Lewis Labour Day telethons. I think for 30 years this telethon went on and millions were poured into research and it seems nothing has really changed. Obviously there has to be full disclosure to the person looking to have the Crispr technique done. The fact that gene modification failed and the patient died several years ago and it lead to a massive set back is appalling. This is not a done deal. This is in the testing stage. It means all kinds of things can go wrong, but each test leads to an improvement in the technique and gives more information to the researchers and the doctors. Saying no to this is possibly saying no to a better future. Life is a risk and either you take the risk or you spend your life wringing your hands over what is the right thing to do while NOTHING gets done and NOTHING changes and NOTHING improves ❗If it were me, I would rather die trying than merely living a deteriorating life, leading to a sorry end. Nothing ventured, nothing gained is very apt here.
Natural grains modification has been taking place for many centuries.
I think they're perfectly safe to eat and just as nourishing.
But I'm not an expert in that field.
You can google natural grains modification to learn all about it.
I remember watching a documentary on this subject, when a group of scientists were studying very old grains found next to the bodies of well preserved mummies or ice bodies.
These grains were very different on the molecular level to the grains we have now. 😊

@lindagunkle8273- The "promising" new thing is always stalled bc of some concern that someone, somewhere will abuse the new treatment. It's like saying ban gambling bc less than 2% of the pop. can't control themselves. So the other 98% can't enjoy the fun of it. That's stupid.
