The Switch 2 is probably on the way, but the current Switch still stands as one of the greatest consoles ever made- with the massive library of games to back it up.
Speaking of which- what's your favorite game on Switch after about 7 years of so many classics? Probably Zelda TOTK for me, BOTW as well. Just awesome games.

Rumors aside, the Switch on its own is an incredible system. The most flexible console of all time, the hardware might not be great on a spec sheet but its popularity made devs squeeze every drop out of its SoC and it's powerful enough to play stuff all the way up to PS3/360 era. The catalogue of games is monstrous, everything from Nintendo games to third party games from multiple generations of games

that really depends on the games optimization some ps360 games do suffer but there are also other ports that work wonders on this aging hardware. specifically one of my favorites Nier Automata was surprised it plays fine on the Switch with some hiccups during hectic actions but keep most things at 30fps

Its why I love the switch and have been hating Xbox and Playstation, both of those companies have the resources to hire dev teams to squeeze out the potential in the next gen systems, but no they make these consoles and don't create significant hardware for them exslusively, at a reasonable time frame

I purchased my OLED on Black Friday fully understanding that it is likely on its last legs. I didn’t own a switch, and wanted to play the games. I basically bought a bunch of games during the Black Friday, holiday and Boxing Day sales.

My wife and I shared the redbox LCD Switch for the past 2 years, its been a very great experience since both of us are mainly PC gamers. I got myself my own Switch Lite in early 2023 and I play on it almost every day. Having games like Dark Souls, Witcher 3, Doom, Quake and Zelda on the go has been amazing. Yes a Steamdeck or Asus ROG Ally are better but not as portable and no where near as cheap.

I just got a Switch OLED for Christmas and I’m excited to get some more games to it. I don’t want to live my life by rumors and if and when the Switch 2 comes out, that will be amazing. But as of now, I got some Mario,Zelda, Kirby, and other games to get… not to mention games I enjoy like Sonic Mania (which I already have for Switch) that I can now take on the go.

I also just got a Switch OLED for Christmas, handing down my original Switch to one of my Kids for Christmas. The Switch is so good, I've so many games still to play and finish that there's plenty of years left in it for me, and the slightly larger OLED screen looks fantastic. I also have an Xbox Series X but play the Switch way more, proving that for me the power of the device isn't my top concern. Don't get me wrong, the Xbox looks great, but the games are so stupidly huge I can only have a few installed at a time and they take forever to download and update. By comparison I've got a pretty decent Switch collection of games that I can easily jump between depending on my mood, updates are quick, and I can 'Switch' to mobile mode when someone else is using the TV.

It's been said right here. it speaks miles about the switch's power (or lack thereof) that a lof of its games can be emulated on recent enough android phones, not to mention something like my steam deck oled, which aside from all the demanding pc stuff I play on it also pulls double duty as a switch (especially for multiplayer switch games) given that I can pair any controller from a dualsense to a damn wii remote to it and have it work.

Got my switch lite mid 2023 (bought it used), it was a great buy in my opinion, nothing beats its size. But buying a new switch right now may be a bad idea.
Everything is just my opinion of course, this comes from a PC gamer and a hardware modder (yea I modded my switch lite).
Edit: A modded switch can be overclocked so that many 30FPS games get to 60, or some ~20FPS get to a stable 30, however this is at your own risk.

I get all the third party games on my PS5, I play only Nintendo exclusives on the Switch but there aren't too many of them that captivated me that much other than BOTW, TOTK and FE:Three Houses, I loved those games. Short answer: It's complicated. On one hand, there are a lot of great console exclusive titles to be played but on the other hand, the hardware limitations will be the biggest factor in long-term. Yes, it’s worth it. If you’re considering a console at this point, it’s because it’s not crucial to you to have a new console on Day 1. You have access to a large library or games without having to wait years for releases. You can purchase a more optimized version of the console, as first or second models have yet to discover what will be the system’s pain points. I think the switch is still worth it in 2024, especially if you are new to the console like I am I’ve had my switch OD since October and I have just been discovering new games. Obviously I have a lot of the well-known games like Super Mario Odyssey so the breath of the wild et cetera, but I have been discovering some new games as well, and I’ve really enjoyed using my Nintendo Switch and it’s the most fun I’ve ever had for a long time in gaming. In fact, the switch has restored my faith in gaming. I think in terms of the switch hardware, I think people need to remember that the switch hardware is pretty much a seventh gen console in terms of what’s inside it so a lot of the issues the switch has the 360 and the PS3 would have those same problem, maybe maybe not as not to the extent of the switch due to the switch being a portable, but I do think that if a game is designed for the switch in mind, then it will perform better, but most of these bad ports are from developers who gains were not even designed for the switch hardware in the first place what I mean is that the switch not being the lead platform, but overall I really like the switch and it’s literally become my favourite system of all time and this was a great overall retrospective of the switch.

Is it worth it or just wait another year to potentially buy the switch 2. (Im a new user, and this will be the first time im buying the switch). Really appreciate the opinions🙏🏻

I have the original model, bought in 2018, and it still works great. I know my left Joy-Con has some drift, but I almost always play in Docked Mode with the Pro Controller. I play New Horizons for a bit every day, of course have the major titles (MK 8 Deluxe, BOTW), some cool little indie games, and all of the Just Dance games. 😆 Also...I assembled and played with all the Nintendo Labo kits. 🤣🤣

If we're talking about the V1 model, absolutely no, the battery life is comparable to the new 3DS, not only that there are way better options outside of just the base switch anyways

I'm fully expecting the Switch 2 to be evolutionary rather than revolutionary, like what the 3DS was for the DS. So with that in mind I see no reason to avoid the Switch entirely. Still a great console with great games. If a person finds a good deal on it, then it's worth it imo. At retail not so much because deals for it are everywhere, so it makes no sense to pay full price. But like I said I expect the Switch 2 to be for the most part a more powerful Switch, so the Switch will still be a lower-spec and lower-budget option.

You're probably better off waiting, it is very likely whatever comes next is going to be better.
If the new thing is better and you get it, then if you buy the Switch you'll have wasted around 300$ which is enough money for 5-20 games depending on their price or having online services for the entire new console's lifespan.

@@MrSamoDude Because it’s a no brainer that your phone is technically way more versatile than a switch. PSP had top tier specs for a handheld(at the time)but also offered nearly everything you do on your phone before smartphones were even a thing. I was playing games, watching movies, handling social media accounts, messaging and everything else back in 2007 and on the switch your option is play a game or shut it off. Don’t get me wrong! That isn’t necessarily a bad thing,I know Nintendos focus IS the games but I’m just saying. To spend that much money in this day and age and besides the Nintendo store it doesn’t offer much more than a gameboy is wild.

My advice would be if you don't have a Switch buy one of the cheaper models or try getting an OLED Switch for less than the retail price on the secondhand market. That way you don't have to miss out on current games but you still save a bit of money and can upgrade sooner rather than later after the new console comes out. If you do have a Switch and you're looking to upgrade, just wait until the new console comes out.
