I went a guitar clinic at a music store with Andy in 1991, Beaumont, Texas. He'd just got together with Ibanez and had a new model he was promoting. Very simple guitar, had a fixed which he said he preferred. He said it just felt "more in tune" and stable. Anyway though, he had several price points and colors displayed on the make shift stage in the store, and he had some backing tracks that he played several of his songs to. He didn't use a pick. Playing was phenomenal.
I had a 1977 Ibanez Stratocaster Copy , Fender Sued Ibanez Over It because it was identical to a 3 colour sunburst with maple neck , large Fender Headstock . And special case . I sold it to a guy who looks exactly like Ringo Star for $1500.00
In fact, Ibanez's AZ series is a series that really made me fall in love with Ibanez, and it already has a model or variation that will appeal to every guitarist. The guitar is really thought through and It is a guitar that reached its final form by asking many guitarists and revising it over and over again. You feel it when you play it. Of course, there are many different and very good brands and models out there, but if If you've played an Ibanez before and liked it even a little bit, the AZ series multiplies that by 10. If I had a tour or concert series I would definitely not set out without an AZ2204 or AZ2402, but Andy Timmons signature series is the heart of the AZ guitar story if you are an Ibanez fan like me. Of course, this opinion is subjective depending on the style and playing style. The thing that bothers me the most these days is that I will never have the financial power to buy this guitar...
Beautiful guitar, I love the roasted maple neck and fingerboard more than the old maple one. I miss the hb on the bridge because I like feel some true balls when you go in that position.
Finally he got rid of the big sise humbucker in the bridge. It just never sounded good to me but now its a hole different thing. The pickup window of the smaller humbuckers even if they have blades or if its a normal single coil pickup makes a huge difference especially on a strat style guitar.
i know its nit picky, but on this guitar specifically i definitely prefer the glossy look of the original. I almost always prefer a satin finish but on this for some reason it looks a little cheap. Like you pick it up and it feels light and cheap/
Andy Timmons is a monster player & when I met him I found out that he's a really nice man too!!! If he has one fault then it's he's Definitely far too tall!!!!! Ok I'm only 5'9" & he must be about 6'5"!!!
Satriani had the same idea on build a Ibanez with triple singlecoil but his idea no works . And he said: the fender stratocaster is very competitive market !
Why no humbucker in the bridge, like the Prestige and add the coil-splitting system of the standard AZ models? The white AZ prototype, they gave him looks so much better and is definitely more versatile, with the H-S-S and additional coil-splitting switch. This here is basically a RG-Strat,with mini-humbuckers.
...Because his main guitar is already like that. He does play strat some times, this is just that. It also gives an SSS guitar to Ibanez, which I dont think any current models had.
Really love the AT signature models as a concept, but the nut width is so narrow (40.5mm), that the neck makes my left hand cramp up. For comparison: a standard nut width is around 42-43mm. Doesn't seem like a big deal, but it actually is.
Really interesting that you bring this up. Guitar players don’t really talk about this much. I actually have the complete opposite experience with this guitar and guitars with 1.6 / 1.625 nut width. Fullerton Era Fenders tend to run around this size. Between 40.5-41.3. I find a JEM’s nut width ( 43mm ) really uncomfortable. To each their own.
Yeah it's the weirdest thing. I think it's a combination of how your hands are built and personal preference, but I believe wider fretboards are usually recommended for players with bigger hands. Or at least they will find it more comfortable to play. I don't think my hands are that big, but I'd say my fingers are longer than average. I used to have a AT100CL as my main guitar and at first I couldn't figure out why the neck always felt a little off, but comfortable nonetheless. I remember getting mild cramps after about an hour of playing and at first I thought, that it had something to do with my own technique. Few years later the cramps got worse and sadly I never really felt like playing it because of that. I never had this problem with my Highway One Strat, that has a 43mm nut width, so I ended up comparing what's the difference between those necks and made the conclusion, that besides obviously the radius, the AT neck was a lot narrower. I ended up swapping the AT for an old PRS CE24 that has a Wide Thin neck (43mm) and it's just perfect. For years I was always very focused on the thickness of a neck rather than the width, but these days I find any neck comfortable as long as the nut width is around 43mm. Then again, someone with exactly the same hands as mine might find the AT neck comfortable and don't have any problems with it.
@@redaben9936 Thanks , I know he use dp187 with HSS combination but I think maybe this one different because just use only DP187 with all positions so very big volume difference problem on pickup combination.
Hello! the volume is very close to the strings, near bridge pickup!!! it's very uncomfortable! when you learn and this problem is with the Fender Stratocaster!!! why are you repeating this mistake again? it's not convenient for the game!!!
ive tried the az models at my local store. they sound absolutely fantastic. they all fit into andy's tone style. but they are all so god damn ugly. i really want that white prototype andy was playing. looks fantastic
@Ganjang gongjangjang that's the common consensus, but I disagree. Vinnie Moore and Joe Satriani have some of the best neck pickup sound out there Imo, both on 24 frets. I'd much rather have 2 octaves per string than some negligible tone difference.
Rather than innovate in the body, just change the headstock and say in passing, that horrible headstock the traditional/modern is more beautiful. So keep the traditional headstock and innovate in the body, you do not have to be just in Steve Vai's body model. I really like Ibanez guitars, but I confess that this traditional Steve Vai's body model is already running out, it is noticeable that it needs innovation with respect to the body and not to the headstock.
Like the guitar, but those pickups sound like the older DiMarzio stacked pickups. Don’t dig them at all. They sound like what DiMarzio thinks a real single-coil should sound like, not what one really does sound like.
Love him. Humble guy. He makes the guitar great.

Just picked it up today for 1900. What a deal. I love the single coil harmonics and out of phase sounds. I love Andy's tone.
Beautiful guitar, if i could ever afford it i would get it..
I bet this will be your best selling sig. guitar ever.
The wilkinson by gotoh vsvg is the best sixscrew tremolo on the market IMO.It sounds right and works very well(floating).Great looking guitar.
I use the Wilkinson model in my fender stratocaster and the big block is something else, it gives you a feeling and sensitivity to qualify
Andy is the best, and his guitar is definitely on my list of wants!
Andy Timmons, you are pure joy to me.

I still have that little magazine, for the good old Ibanez RX
I must have gotten the one built on Friday at noon because mine was crap,,the first guitar I ever returned.
Dug your playing since Mr. Matthews class days, ;) congratulations on all your success, you have the "gift", always inspirational
I wish they would show the storys of AT 300 and AT 200 a little more!

The King has Spoken!
love the progression 1:59 - 2:09
Amazing tone and great player!!
Love this guitar, I bought a AZ model last year.. might have to get this also
Love the sound that bridge single coil pup - jangly but thicc

first person that I hear saying that the Dimarzio AT-1 in the Ibanez AT100 did not fit the guitar...interesting...
Danger back then had really good vocals & guitars .
waiting this video for so long since i've seen it on a instagram post :)
Wonderful sound 👍

Better than fender strat.
great guitar player, have the @ pedal really like it.
Any chance there's a lefty version of this? Pretty please? :)

The neck is thicker than normal AZ and AT100, other than that, it’s perfect.
It's curious but , is it Andy who inspired the shape of the pickguard of the AZ series??
With his broken pickguard on his AT100 ???
I think yes he's !
GOD Bless You 🎸🎸🎸
Ibanez makes some good guitars!
He is quite skilled

yeah since they killed off the talmans, which had 3 single models.
Demais essa guitarra parabéns 👏👏
Sometimes the best sounding Strat isn't a Strat ;-)
legend!
If only i could get one in a lefty...
Wow, they were able to get almost 7 minutes out of “the bridge pickup is different”.
No disrespect to AT lol, he’s my dawg 🤙🏼
Why have these never been available left handed?
*EARTHQUAKE!* damn that's wild
IS THE MIDDEL PICKUP A 186 OR 187 ?
In Brazil this guitar currently costs R$36.000 (around $7000), which is equivalent to 27 minimum wages in Brazil. God save Brazil.
"....that people get exactly what I am using". Knowing that these guys get their prototypes and own versions made by the exklusiv LA Custom Shop....

I missed his model last time but not this time. And then I realized I still have no cash. 😅
Almost perfect.....except for that volume control placement
Why not?
Where are the mids ??? I feel like Ibanez took the old model of the AT and scooped the sound
is the neck pickup DP 187 or DP186 ?
I'm pretty sure he use the DP187 bridge pickup in all positions in this one, his old ibanez has two DP187 and one dimarzio AT-1
@@redaben9936 Thanks , I know he use dp187 with HSS combination but I think maybe this one different because just use only DP187 with all positions so very big volume difference problem on pickup combination.
In my opinion the neck is dp 186 .. maybe 🙄
simple, comfortable guitar have I ever use at guitarshop,,,but Not cheap... :(
Ibanez Silver Sky

It's too bad that it has only 22 frets, otherwise I'd buy one. I absolutely need 2 octaves per string. Anything short of that makes no sense to me.

@Ganjang gongjangjang well I've heard good and bad 21 and 22 fret guitars too so there are alot of variables.
Easy with that delay bro.
Dear Ibanez, I hope this model will have gloss finish, not only satin.
You could hand Andy a Kleenex box with rubber bands and he'll still sound amazing.
Rather than innovate in the body, just change the headstock and say in passing, that horrible headstock the traditional/modern is more beautiful. So keep the traditional headstock and innovate in the body, you do not have to be just in Steve Vai's body model.

Rafael Valim Fernandes
That's not an RG body, it's a different shape
... WHY WON'T YOU MAKE DIFFERENT COLORS!
Like the guitar, but those pickups sound like the older DiMarzio stacked pickups. Don’t dig them at all. They sound like what DiMarzio thinks a real single-coil should sound like, not what one really does sound like.
Less gabbin more playin....love ya dude...but....wanna hear the axe not your gab.
Take the pick guard off and do something else with that finish.
that's a weird looking eric johnson there
I love Andy but does anyone understand its way to expensive. I want one but I can't have one because they're 2400. Fuck Ibanez!
hey andi , buy a fender
Andy has amazing taste in tone, but when it comes to design - not so much....that thing is an eye sore...
bla bla bla. How about 6 minutes of playing it in different pickup selections or does it sound so crappy you don't want to actually demo it?
