    Thanks so much for posting this! I'm getting back into cycling after a long hiatus, and have I bought a Mongoose Hitch to use as a trainer and to orient myself to what I need in a bike. I went in blind buying this, (most everything at the lower mid price point is sold out) but for the most part have been able to upgrade all the parts I need to, except for the odd size of the bottom bracket. I've done some typical upgrades to tailor the bike to me, but I thought I was stuck with a square taper crankset until I saw this video! I never thought to look into Alibaba, so this opens up a completely new area to browse. The attention to detail where you place the links to the parts and tools made me instantly hit the subscribe button! I just can't tell you how much I appreciate that.
    The Hitch has either a 100 or 110 mm BB, based on where I measure from, and I have heard reports that the 100mm bracket will work, but I haven't confirmed it yet. The spindle is 1750mm, so I'm kind of torn between getting the 120mm BB but getting the 1750 crankset because I feel that will be a better fit, as I'm unsure if the 190mm set will be too wide for that BB. I'm sure I will have to dig to find those parts on there, but its worth it if I can get the correct setup. I have a 100mm square taper BB arriving in a few days, so if it fits the bike I will know I can get away with the set you made a link to. I'm putting this info here in case another fellow Hitch owner is in the same boat and finds your excellent videos.
    I will continue to watch your builds, as so much relates to what I'm doing with mine. Once again, thank you so much.

    Thanks for the great video! I got a Dolomite (not ALX) for free and am upgrading it to make it rideable. I bought and installed the 120mm bottom bracket with 192mm spindle and 170mm crank arms from Ali express. The BB fit great, but when I install the crank the spindle has gaps between the BB and the crank arm of maybe 10mm. The crank will slide from side to side if bumped hard. I added the spacers as in the video, there is not enough thread inside the bottom bracket to add enough spacers to fill the gaps. If I got a shorter spindle it wouldn't work because the crankarms barely clear the chainstays. I am baffled how in the video yours installed nice and flush, I measured to make sure my BB is 120mm. I thought of adding spacers between the outside of the bb and the crank arms but that doesn't seem sound. Am I missing something obvious?

    • @kevingoscha9894
      @kevingoscha9894 2 роки тому +1

      the gaps aren't 10mm, they are much bigger than that on both sides, maybe 30-40mm on each side.

    • @chickensendies

      @Kevin Goscha From my quick research the bb on the dolomite is 110mm ish so i would say to make it work your only option would be spacers. Of course with out it in front of me it is hard to say.

      @kevingoscha9894 2 роки тому +1

      @@chickensendies Thanks for your response and taking the time to look that up! So, if there isn't enough thread to add the spacers inside the bottom bracket cap do you think it is a bad idea to just put them between the cranks and BB on each side? Seems pretty janky to me. I might be able to just return the setup still and go back to a square taper but hate to do that.

      This specific bottom bracket does have a sliding style so it will fit different sizes. The issue you will run into is the amount of spacers you would potentially have to run to make this fight correct and not have left and right play... I hope that makes sense!

This thing will just creep up hills from a dead stop in low gear and will just climb with very little effort.

      @@MrGonzo22 Mine came with the chainrings to make it a 3x, I set mine up as a 2x. You need to either get smaller little bolts to hold on the chainring or just put a thin washer in, like I did. The included chainrings are 1 or two teeth off from the original, but, consider how much you actually use the top end gear and you'll figure out that it makes no difference.

    Just a for instance question... if I get a 100mm vs a 120mm BB... I need a 120mm, but 100mm is all thats available. Why couldn't I use a 100mm BB on a 120mm Bike? Seems to me the only difference is the tube in the middle that seals out water from the frame draining. I'd think the two ends screwing into the frame would give you all the support. Am I wrong? What did I miss?

    • @weskirkland5850
      @weskirkland5850 2 роки тому +1

      is the tube in the middle plastic? If it is, it provides no support and is only for waterproofing meaning in pratcie you could buy the two screw in ends and it would work. This is what I need to know. I'm used to making badass stuff work in wierd ways. I just want this question answered so I don't have to buy more stuff than I need to. This will also help future dolomite owners find parts for their odd bikes. If I try it and it works I will reply here and let ya know. depending on your answer.

      if I can get a hollowtech bb to fit and width doesnt matter, that will free up a whole lot of people with these bikes to buy whatever they want. Of course if it does work, you'll have to waterproof the bb part of the frame somehow.

    • @chickensendies
      @chickensendies  2 роки тому

      @@weskirkland5850 That is correct on the plastic sleeve portion of the bb. The problem you would potentially run into is the length of the crank spindle on the cranks not being long enough to fit through the bottom bracket.
