That cutaway is just perfect. Demystified the crank remover for me. Fabulous. Gives me more confidence to do more of my own maintenance now I understand how the basics work - and save money in the process. Simply the best bicycle "How to" instructions on the web. Top Job.
This is the most comprehensive yet concise explanation on the entire net regarding 3-piece crank removals, and it's professionally captured! Good maintenance is helping not only to safe money but also is good for the environment.
This is the best video production on that I have seen for bike maintenance. The pace is great, the visual aids are excellent, camera work and audio are very good. And most of all the instructor is very knowledgeable and skilled. Video tutorial makers: watch and learn.
Calvin Jones is the Buddha of bikes. Park Tool is bike Paradise. Plain and simple! (This rider is deeply grateful to them, their videos, their quality, their brilliance and above all, their love of cycling and for cyclists.)
Needed to replace my bottom bracket so I brought it to reputable bike repair and then later that day, they called to say their usual suppliers do not have the part and I should consider buying a new bike. I took my bike back and called the manufacturer the next morning and within ten minutes I had ordered the part which was delivered 6 days later. Six days without my bike, ugh. Anyways, being of limited means and feeling let down by the bike repair shop, for why didn't they call the manufacturer like I did, I have decide that it is better if I learn how to do this for myself. So, I just want to say a big thank you to you guys for clear and precise explanations. Cheers
I buy Park Tools exclusively now because your video series on UA-cam is so good. Thank you for putting this knowledge out there, these videos are incredibly helpful.
It was said 4 yrs ago and I'm saying it again today after finding this video: "Dude! That cutaway explanation was genius!” Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏
OMG! I've watched a bunch of people doing this operation and none of them show the detail or explain it in any way. But you? Cut-away view of the whole thing. Brilliant! They should ALL be linking to you.
Going to check your web site now. Here's what I hope to find: Recommended tools for well known operations. There should be a list of well known operations which will then pull up the correct tools for the job. The operations should contain the bike make/model (and if not already in the database, give customer the chance to add it) and any number of the common operations like "changing pedals" or "installing a mid drive Bafang motor." The latter is a rather hot topic. This would enable you to sell BATCHES of tools instead of one at a time. It would also make you the go-to site for every operation imaginable.
OK just found the "repair help" which is approaching what I think you should be doing. It's fantastic reference information. Now you just need to bring it together starting with a search "What do you want to do?" Based on that, your search should yield a list of recipes. (Yes, recipes! What's in a recipe? The ingredients, the tools needed and instruction for how to do it) And clearly you've got all or most of that already. Final additional suggestion: Sell through Amazon or some other online store because that's where people go to find things. I never heard of you before this video. Amazon's AI would start suggesting your tool batches based on the thing someone is buying. For example, if I'm getting a Bafang 750W mid drive, it would recommend a packaged set of tools for that job. And such packaged sets might include extra tools in order to ensure the buyer has all of the right tools just in case. Many people like myself wouldn't mind one bit having two or three crank puller tools if I bought it in a set to complete this job and I have never done it before. The fact that I would have EVERYTHING I need would be invaluable. What's more frustrating than starting a job and find you are missing one or two important tools? The alternative is far less disappointing and the disappointment would be with ourselves because we didn't know which tools to deselect from the packages.
After searching for hours everywhere, thank you so much for this tutorial ! This is the only video I've found explaining that there is a small and a bigger driver foot on the CWP-7 as the tool comes with the smaller one attached by default.
Thank you so much for the very clear demonstration of what's going on inside. I couldn't get it. I watched a lot of video about removing the crank, I couldn't get how it works. Now it is clear for me. Thank you
awesome! this easy to follow demonstration made my day after I was super annoyed having to do this with a brand new bike. fortunately, I found this video right before I started throwing tools!
Totally brilliant! Never seen such a clear exposition, superb detail, common sense about arm positioning, what a contrast to most of the shaky ill-lit stuff on UA-cam! Thanks SO much!
It's wicked to see those demonstrations. Thanks a lot for showing it so clearly and straight forward. I had no idea there were this many variations with the bottom bracket. Bloody manufacturers should stick to one and keep it simple.
I found this really helpful for removing the crankset from a 2006 Bianchi 928 with ISIS bottom bracket. I bought the Park crank remover but didn't fully understand how to use until I watched this video. Of course one common issue is that you can't get the crank bolt out after it's been in place for a decade. Impact driver worked well to get the project started. I agree with other comments, that this guy is really good.
Thanks man. Helped alot. I managed to screw up my crank pedal threads by cross threading the left pedal. 1 Crankpuller, Crankset and Pedals later, my bike runs fine again. Doing it myself was alot cheaper than a bike shop, and easy thanks to this guide. (:
Great video!!! I followed this and was able to get the crank off my bike. Just make sure you have/get the proper tools for your bike and watch more of the videos recommended. It took me watching other of their videos and this one several times to understand since I'm new bike maintenance. Thank you!
Already have a wrench and an 8MM torx, all I need is grease and some leverage hell yeah, this is awesome! Definitely buying the remover tool. Excellent with the cutaway
Wow....when I removed the bolt I was so happy...for 2 seconds...thanks for a super clear explanation...off I go to buy a crank remover...super clear explanation thanks 😊
Why does it work so easily on these videos!? I’m struggling with 37 different hand positions and having a hernia doing so, and PT makes it look so simple! Great video :)
Thanks so much for this informative video! I should have watched this before changing my chain ring. I did not check for the washer as mentioned at 4:05 in the video. As a result, I got the head of the tool stuck in the crank. I couldn't tell it was stuck because somehow, the crank came off. I removed the tool, but the part of the tool that presses on the BB was stuck in the crank. I did not identify this issue because this was my first time to remove a crank. It looked normal to me. I replaced the chain ring and reassembled but it did not go back together properly. I stripped the threads in the BB and had to replace it. Next time, I'll know what to do.
You are amazing! I know you’re used to do in these all the time but I have to tell you you really made a difference for me and I really appreciate your help. Thank you so much.
Excellent video! I am building a handcycle from bicycles and other interesting parts... And, I had to order a universal crank puller today as I could not or did not want to damage things using the 3lb sledge hammer... I am glad I found this video.
It is a pleasure to see you and your accurate and honest explanations, thank you very much, I have not seen anything comparable to the quality of your video. From now on, a humble follower from Spain. Thanks again.
This really helped!!! Now I know how to do it the proper way and this is the reason I only go on parktool to know how to fix or changed things on my bike because how clear they are with explanation 🤙🏽👍🏼
Great video. I can confirm that you must be SUPER-careful about whether or not you need the 'big-foot' on the tool, I scrapped a tool and was lucky to not scrap a crank arm with that error!
Another great park tool video. On a side note if your crank puller is for square taper and you need to pull an ISIS crank a stack of 3 dimes held together with grease should do the trick (fewer dimes and they deform).
Excellent video. I removed the outer bolt (not sure what it's called) on the crank and couldn't figure out why I couldn't just remove the rest with my hands. Video brilliantly explains it all. Thank you! Off to get some new tools...
I know you've a million vids on direction of removal on cranks and bottom brackets but I missed it in this video on the 2nd side which was referred to but not addressed... I'm currently looking for info on how to do my bb... love your vids.. much appreciated
This is one of the best instructional videos I've seen on UA-cam. In fact, all of your series is top notch. If all videos were like this, ISIS wouldn't exist and bacon wouldn't make us fat.
Perfect, including the type determination video. Managed to clean the racing bike together with my gf because of this video. And she understood she needs more tools :-)
I think I'm going to find the guy in my neighborhood selling bikes all summer and see if he can do.it for me. I fix my own vehicles but I could never figure out how to replace a crank or brake cables. Thank you for the amazing video..
Great video.Yesterday following this instructions I had removed bottom bracket for the first time in my life :).Today I bought caged bearings and looking forward to put all it together.Thank you!
just snapped that handle off the park tool getting the otherside off. ended up pulling the crank drive side out with the spindle attached. sat it in a vice and hammered down.
Thanks for this, now I know I've got the wrong Crank Puller for my octalink. You'd think the bike manufacturers would give a tool listing for their bikes? It's only a matter of dropping the relevant BoM on the web...
Hi here from phil.. thank u so much for this video. Now i know what sort of crank my bike have. And i know now how to maintain this specially fixing it without worrying to go to bike shop.
Excellent video. I'm pretty sure I need the black handled puller, not the blue one (which I bought). Been mulling on this all day after trying unsuccessfully to remove my crank. Thanks for the detailed instructions.
I was wrong. The blue handled puller was the correct one. I mistakenly removed the end cap on the puller. It doesn't work with it off. Learned that the hard way.
oh I finally found out what my weird looking crank is all about :) got me the parktool today :) I have a wobly crank and just noticed the bracket isn't even screwed in completely, how does it get loose 🤨

powskier so good
Right? I was trying to figure out how to use the tool. This video explained it perfectly. Thanks
Yeehaw!
Very helpful indeed!
Because of that I subscribed immediately
Hands-down best bicycle teacher ever
I buy Park Tools exclusively now because your video series on UA-cam is so good. Thank you for putting this knowledge out there, these videos are incredibly helpful.
Yep, just bought their crank puller for $15 on Amazon (the cheapest ones were $6).
It successfully removed my new crank set.

OH MY GOD THANK YOU FOR SHOWING THE INTERNAL WORKINGS WITH THE CRANK REMOVER!
exactly this is the whole point...
Calvin jones is the man I owe him at least a hundred beers now with all he has taught me from these videos
The cross section demo was out of this world!
Appreciate the quality of the video and information. Couldn’t have completed my repair without this
Park tools produces the best DIY bike repair videos. Thanks so much! And they make awesome, durable tools.

This video was so cool! I am 100% buying park from now on. You guys deserve the support!
You are the best! Thanks so much! Replacing old rusty drivetrain was a breeze. Bought a parktool crank puller out of gratitude
It's wicked to see those demonstrations. Thanks a lot for showing it so clearly and straight forward. I had no idea there were this many variations with the bottom bracket. Bloody manufacturers should stick to one and keep it simple.
please can anybody tell me that what is the size of the bolt of Octalink ( @ ) (Shimano) I lost my bolt while I was cycling.
please somebody reply

The explanation is great with the cut out crank arm, i wasn't too sure how to use the crank extraction tool, but the video explained it nicely!

The best video for crank install/removal on UA-cam! Thanks!
Very clear instruction, especially seeing the "inside" was helpful to understand how this system works. Thank you for putting this online!
Amazing. Cutting the pedal arm to see inside was brilliant.
Nah its gay
Already have a wrench and an 8MM torx, all I need is grease and some leverage hell yeah, this is awesome! Definitely buying the remover tool. Excellent with the cutaway

Outstanding quality video, best I've seen across how-to bikes videos. Cheers for putting this up!
Thank you sir for your precious instructions!!! Greetings from Greece Krokion

thanks from a novice mountain bike owner who regrets not buying a better one.
Perfect, including the type determination video. Managed to clean the racing bike together with my gf because of this video. And she understood she needs more tools :-)
And that's how you make a demonstration video😀brilliant
Good explanation - the cutaway really helps illustrate what's going on - and why my hammering wasn't working...
This was the best explanation video I've seen!

7 year old gold! Perfect love the cross section !

PS love the totally sorted workshop. Wish this guy was my local shop!
Excellent video. How do you determine the correct bolt torque when re-attaching the crank arms, my owner's manual doesn't supply.
Great video.Yesterday following this instructions I had removed bottom bracket for the first time in my life :).Today I bought caged bearings and looking forward to put all it together.Thank you!
Best video on UA-cam so far
really well put together and presented video , thank you
Thanks for showing how to do it without a torque wrench.
Thanks mate. I was able to tighten the inner part, once I took the pedal leg thing off. Now no creaky pedalling.
Now I fully understand why you need these tools when operating your bike. This is really nice. I don't know why it's got dislikes lol
great videos, love the visual support with the explanations
Exactly what I was looking for in a video of this! Thank you

Big up to you Calvin! I have learnt alot from you weather it be in the book of video format. Thanks for the knowledge!

Your videos are great! First place I go when I need to do an unfamiliar repair. Great production and narration, you obviously know your stuff!
Thanks to this video I figured out I bought the wrong tool. 👍
This video came in really handy, I have been handed the task of updating some tandem bikes to run on train tracks and need to pull several cranks off.
oh I finally found out what my weird looking crank is all about :) got me the parktool today :) I have a wobly crank and just noticed the bracket isn't even screwed in completely, how does it get loose 🤨
Splendid video!! also with the intro on the inside!
I join the other folks with many thanks for the most usefull video about my cranks that explains everithing!
am glad to see others were impressed.
Brilliant commentary and easy steps demonstrated. Thank you very much.
Thank you for the excellent video! It helped me fix by bike with crunching noise while pedaling. It was a loose bolt for the crank.
