Flying a drone became my hobby (thanks to you) before even having a drone! Thanks for all the effort you put into this channel and keep up the good work!
Best drone channel. Many thanks Darren for getting the most out of these fantastic drones! Awesome guidelines and advise from the drone master himself.
I’ve been flying for over 3 years. Just got the mini 2. Watch you all the time. You’ve taught me a ton! Lots of fun places to fly here in the mountains of Utah! Getting better all the time. 🥃
Great mini-tutorial: short and gets to the essential information, especially about the ND filters. There are so many tutorials that tell you all about the settings, but fail to mention that they are not going to work without the filter. Thanks!
Hi, - Is it correct, that the dji mini 2 cannot utilize the full 4:3 aspect ratio sensor, but only film in 16:9? - If not, how to change it? - A pity if I am correct, 25% of the pixels go unused (4:3 = 12:9; (16-12)/16 = 25%)
What is the best app for android to edit 4k? And that doesn't lower the quality because i have used VN and i lets me export in 4k but only in like 45 mbits
Vn is prob the one I’d suggest, if you shoot in 4k and export in 4k the lower rate shouldn’t matter much, either than or premier / Final Cut Pro / davinci for best results
i have a mini 3 pro, and posted my first drone footage video a couple days ago, and got alot of attention on Nextdoor, some neighbor wants me to shoot a 2-3 min video of her home. trying to find tips, i dont have an ND filter yet!
I find 4K 25p problematic with heavy jittering when i have quick horizontally movements or movements that is very close to a subject, even worse, if i using speed rump or change speed in editing. These low cost sensor in mini 2 use a rolling shutter that produces a stuttering effect as you pan. I end up with 2.7K 50p which is fluid smooth without any choppiness.
Some more great tips there from the fylde coast flying ledge. I just need to invest in a drone now to hopefully achieve the same quality videos as you produce. It's a stunning day so looking forward to seeing some great footage. Looking up but cant see any drones yet. 👀🛸
Just bought some Freewell ND filters (plus polarising ones) and have started to use the manual settings. It's a bit hit-and-miss wrt which filter to start with, based on the conditions, but I'm definitely getting there.
So I haven’t done much shooting with my mini2 yet but was I have had looked a bit grainy that is in auto mode at 2.7k would pro mode and 4k help clear that up?
Thanks for those tips! So useful! - I am wondering if you, when you fly, always see enough on the screen display of your phone? Or do you use some VR glasses or some kind of shadow protection / addon for the phone?
Thank you for another great video on getting better footage. I fins it hard to use pro settings close to sunset or after sunrise, because I fount that the light intensity changes a lot even during a 20 something minute flight. Typically I'll have an ND 4 filter on there and most of the footage will be overexposed at 1/60 shutter speed at the beginning of the flight, but then it changes rather quickly. So instead of switching filters several times I just resort to automatic setting. As far as I know there is no way of knowing the shutter speed after that, but for the most part I've been happy with the footage. Going to try 24 frames/second to see if there is anoticable difference. So much to learn 🥴
Darren that's a excellent video, Very glad I watched it. Learnt a lot, I have been using DaVinci for my edits and will be looking for some of the pop feature and colour grading in DaVinci. Thanks for doing this video.
Thank you Drew my luts will be available really soon and make it easy for beginners to get a nice look, I’ll be doing edit tutorials on different software too for you guys
G'day Dazza, Two questions for you. I'm about to get a mini 2 to replace my mini 1. mini 2 specs for Max Video Bitrate is 100Mbps, so the SD card I get should be atleast 100mbs obviously if I get one that has a higher mbs that would be better of would that be "over kill". My second question is regarding ND filters. Let's assume all ND's are created equal in lens quality. What do you think is better, the filter where the lens covers all the front of the camera, or the ND filter that is just a circle aligned with the actual lens on the camera.
I now tend to shoot in 2.7k 60fps because I find the motion blur on 4k 30 is so blurred when I move slowly I can’t see the shot well Will ND filters help this or is the motion blur good?
Yeah I tried 4k 30across the big river on a sunny day and got some weird blurr in the water.... Plus it seems the card i have can't shoot 4k fast enough or well enough to process... very lame Samsung evo plus U3 128gb
Do you notice the stutter in your parallax shot? I'm pretty sure that's from panning to fast and too slow a shutter speed. I think 60fps woulda been better for that shot. Your thoughts?
I still have the problem with the video freezing in 4k on my phone. Do you have any ideas on what the problem might be. My mini 2 and fly app are all updated. Great video too 👍
Great stuff! Hoping for some better weather to get out and try some new things with my mini 2! Looks like we are heading into the 60's (f) and sunny here next week :-) Other than low light this thing is truly fantastic! I have been using 2.7 just for smaller files (and I can't see the difference) but may go to 4k and start using raw since I'm working on more advanced editing for photos/videos in 2022.
Hey DM. I got some issues with grain when i record. I'm using ND filters and correct settings so i don't really know what's happening with this grain on the footage.
I'm wondering if you can help 🙏 I've contacted absolutely everyone and still no luck 😔 I've recently purchased a mavic mini 2... The footage is great, I've downloaded the original HD File edit and try and export to instagram reels - this is where the problem is happening, its just compressing the crap out of it... I never had issues with mavic mini... I've tried everything, exporting to normal 1080p x 30fps, switching the high data switch on Insta... I'm seriously pulling my hair out.. Nothing is working and I'm travelling around Canada.. With some great shots.. Hopefully you can help.. Great work BTW 👌👌👌
@@DMProductions Thank you for your reply. When I install my ND filter, I make sure the fingers are firmly planted in the vents on top of the gimbal. I also make sure the filter is seated around the lens, and will not move. It may be that the gimbal motor is too weak, else there is something going on with how the gimbal sensors are programed to adjust the position. I will keep using the ND filters and hope I can sort this out. I don't think DJI will be albe to help, unless I send it back to them for repair or replacement. Thanks again for our reply.
Thank you for another great tutorial and in depth information. I also just got my Mini2 and I have a question regarding the ND/PL filters. Would you suggest a combination of ND/PL filters or is there a benefit to having just ND filters without the PL. I am looking at the Skyreat set, that has the ND4PL ND8PL ND16PL ND32PL ND64PL. Any help would be much appreciated and again thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Man I wish content creators would educate themselves on bitrate and how it impacts video quality at different resolutions. “Use 4K” should not be a rule handed down just because your camera/drone is capable of it. The reality is every camera has a maximum bitrate it’s capable of and that bitrate is ‘spread’ across whatever resolution you choose. So yes, if you plan on cropping or if your camera has a very high bitrate feel free to use 4K. However, if you’re not going to crop or care about uploading at 4K your 1080p footage is going to have more data and therefor have more detail(look better) than your 4K footage. This is the reason the original Mini would have flickering trees. It was very low bitrate(40mbps) and they compensated with baked in sharpening. This is a long winded way of suggesting that we stop encouraging people to use 4K without telling them WHY you should use 4K and how you could potentially get better looking footage by shooting in 1080p

4K is bad advice. Monster data hog. Most people don’t sod around in post and most people can’t see the difference between 4K and 1080p even on a large TV
Actually if you shoot at 60 fps you should use the shutter speed of 1/60 unless you are going to slow down the footage. Memory card doesn’t affect the quality. If the card is too slow it just won’t record
@@DMProductions but you shouldn’t follow that rule if you shoot at 60 fps and you want to get the conventional motion blur. Gerald Undone has made a great example video about this matter
Okay, 24fps is for film, 25fps is the old PAL frame rate (50Hz power divided by odd/even lines per frame = 25 fps interlaced), 30 fps (really 29.97 fps) is the old NTSC frame rate (60Hz power divided by odd/even lines per frame = 29.97 fps interlaced i.e. 30 fps drop frame).
