@@PhillipSkraba I would challenge anyone to get a cinematic look from any drone at 12:00 noon. In my opinion the most important thing to get that "cinematic look" is golden hour lighting. I have seen people with cheap drones with GoPros bolted on with no gimbal achieve a beautiful aerial composure when shot during the golden hour. it's interesting I've watched about 10 of these videos on UA-cam in the last couple of weeks talking about this for the mini 2 and no one ever mentions how critically important lighting is to get that look.
@@ke4uyp Actually, sorry to correct you here, every single shot except the 2nd one were shot between 11am and 1pm, but it's winter and the sun is super low here in Poland, so the shadows are quite long. I do agree however that footage shot when the sun is going down is mind-blowing, but it is possible to get "cinematic" footage at noon, you just have to work it.

@@PhillipSkraba I do it’s so much fun. The only part I’m stress is i don’t want to fly in some restrictions zone that I’m not aware of. so far I’m reading plenty of regulations to make sure I don’t break any rules.
Sure, be considerate, be safe and just general common sense. Nowhere near airports, prisons, motorways etc and you'll be fine. If you fly in a no fly zone by mistake and fly out the drone police won't be after you, so just be aware. Use Airmap and you'll be fine.
Thumbs full throttle on the sticks as well and I actually seen this video when started to fly on past February. Although I had to setup the gimbal movements for smoother movements for all the 3 modes.
@@PhillipSkraba interesting and so far I didn’t use sport mode to shoot. I only use it to go to the target fast, shoot in vine mode and then come back in sport again. It is hard to keep it on the frame, specially for the parallax effect 💪🏻💪🏻

sometimes a get nervous, and my dumb start shaking , and I have to stop, and start using both fingers on each stick. But this is when flying my phantom in difficult situations (flying over a city). With the mini2 I will be more relaxed. Thanks for your cool video
I find that using both fingers adds extra strain to my fingers in turn making them shake 😂 I guess we all have our ways of calming ourselves down. You're welcome, be careful out there!
i am so inspired all of your videos especially those cinematic footage. now i have dji mini 2 and ready to mimic your way.. i have to practice and practice maybe hehehe
I am a dji mini 2 user. I used the gimbal settings on the controller (not the smart one) using Mode 1 because it turned out to be easier to control the drone. What do you think?
That is a very personal preference, I’m good with how it comes boxed, but sure, some people might prefer a different mode. Whatever you’re comfortable with!
I bought the DJI Mini 2 about a month ago and have really enjoyed flying it. I started watching your UA-cam videos today about cinematic footage and absolutely enjoyed it! You have motivated me to be a better drone pilot using smooth control movements. The video portion will come with practice as I have adopted your settings. Again thank you for your expertise and your humour! I look forward to many more videos from you Phillip! Cheers...
Thank You Carl, I'm glad you liked it. The most important part is to keep on flying as much as possible. Keep it slow, keep it smooth, no sudden movements and no course correction, count to 15 whilst holding your shot and you have some great footage.
@@PhillipSkraba There is so much to learn its basically an photo hobby but that's why I loved your stick control here will be far better tomorrow when we get out again.
Damn stick pinchers 😂 No, it's not natural, it feels weird, looks weird and isn't at all smoother than flying thumbs. Thumbs doesn't spasm your fingers. You're welcome Jax!
want good advice? use the controller without the sticks and just the nubs the sticks normally screw into. wayyy more control and the sticks put your fingers up higher and make small changes harder, nubs allow your hands to lay on the controller more and being lower allows more control
Some people like GoPro'ing the sticks, I'm not a fan of that, I prefer you hold the pad, watch the screen and I walk you through it. Thank you, glad you liked it!
I’ve been viewing a ton of drone culture videos lately including bunch of your vids, but this is the one that got me to click and subscribe. Keep up the great work Phillip!

@@PhillipSkraba Yes, Dji mini 2, took for the test today following you other video. There is slight learning curve, but still was a blast! Question though, it will be around -12 degree tomorrow, is it wise to take it for a flight?
@@otarikokojevs Thought I'd chime in here if Phillip doesn't get back to you. Is it -12 C or F? Here in the US I live in Minnesota and personally only fly above 20F but that's just to keep my drone and battery safe. You can fly in lower temperatures but you're really putting your new toy at risk. The drone and battery really deplete quite quickly in lower temps. Also if it's foggy out, i'd say forget about it. I've heard of one drone owner flying through fog in sub freezing temps and he ended up having ice form on his propellers and his drone seized up mid flight and crashed down, luckily he was able to catch it as he was performing the rocket quick shot. Hope that helps man! Welcome to this awesome hobby and community!
@@ToxidiumTube Ah, yes, wanted to say Celsius. So it will be colder during next week and after your comment I will keep it inside till temperature will rise up a bit. I took it out today twice and it was -4C, but performed as expected, no crashing heh 👍

Thank you for this! Thank you for making a how-to video that is very easy to follow, how to shoot properly using this drone. A very straightforward informative content. 💯 👌
Nice video. If you don't mind the criticism I think a better analogy in regards to the "flicking of the sticks" would be vehicle braking and coming to a stop. Good drivers with experience feather the brake pedal to ease out of a stop which limits the whip lash affect. New drivers keep their foot mashed down on the brake pedal and then suddenly let off upon reaching their target stop. The result is the classic whip lash affect. (My daughter is practicing for her license and is a learning this technique now at the expense of my neck muscles) Keep your thumbs and finger on your control surfaces and ease out of controls to keep everything smooth just as you would do when coming to a stop in a car. 👍😁🙋
I agree with everything you said, and I know exactly what you mean about whip lash, I've been in the car with some rather bad drivers. Being blunt in this point however I think suites the drone controller perfectly, as you are quite literally flicking the sticks, however naughty that may sound. A car pedal on the other hand doesn't have the flicking motion. Whilst doing a practical drone exam if we flick our sticks it's basically over, much like with a car, total lack of control. Good luck to your daughter on her exam 👌🏻
@@PhillipSkraba my point with the braking was that an experienced driver does not remove his foot from the brake pedal but simply feathers it..always in contact with the pedal. The only way you can flick a control stick is if you remove your fingers/thumbs from the control surfaces. If you don't remove yourself from your control surfaces it becomes impossible to "flick" your control surfaces and you will learn to feather your controls. Age doesn't just make you look old. Occasionally it's good for some wisdom. 😁

Great stuff. Especially that final complicated shot! Thank you for pushing us to up our cinematic game!
Thank You!
i got recently few days ago mini 2 and your videos help me a lot to learn before actually go out n crash it without knowledge how to fly it :)) thanks a lot
haha, crashing it sometimes is the best lesson of all! I hope you don't though, have fun with it!
@@PhillipSkraba i try not to,but enjoy it already.just quick question today was in park and it didnt allow me to fly and wanted send some message to unlock like, what its about ?thanks
@@MrRonalds77 You were in a controlled zone, so it's possible it's a no fly zone. Download an app called Airmap, that will show you if you're allowed to fly in the area you're in.
@@PhillipSkraba thanks!
Watching for a second time dialing in my settings. Thank you so much.🎉🎉🎉
Well, I'm glad to hear that Jonny! 74 more to go, I think you'll hit your target!
@@PhillipSkraba yes gunna hit 1000 and heading to the hills Tomarrow to film and camp for a night going to try out the 180 degree rule on the drone using Nd filters for the first time. Wooohoo merry Christmas Phillip!
Phillip great video thank you, looking forward to taking my Mini 2 out as soon as these storms have passed.
Thank You, have fun with it Alan!
I dont even have a mini2 yet, and no film background, you have me thinking (hoping) I can pull off some great shots. Thanks!
I'm pretty sure with some very delicate movements you'll be able to do that no problem.
Very useful and instructive video and now I totally understand that I have "just" to practice again and again ! Thanks a lot.
You're welcome! Yes, practice makes these moves super smooth!
Man, I think I’m in love with your videos content. It’s just exactly what we all need. I bet tons of people will agreed.
Thank You! I really appreciate that, it's great when someone connects with what I do.
Thankyou Philip your videos help me a lot. All the best from India.
You're welcome! All the best from Poland 🇵🇱
Indeed one of the best video about drones and how to fly drones properly.
Thank You! I'm really happy you liked it!
Finally someone explains everything in a slow motion step by step instructions . Well done and keep it going.
Thank you Mike! Hope you have fun with it!
I constantly come back to this video when I upgrade. I've started to love and appreciate learning to fly smooth in normal mode.
I’m glad to hear that, that’s what this video was for. Have fun!
Thumbs full throttle on the sticks as well and I actually seen this video when started to fly on past February. Although I had to setup the gimbal movements for smoother movements for all the 3 modes.
Sure, we all need to tweak it a little to our personal preference. Mind you I do what I can to even fly smooth in Sports Mode, that's a fun challenge.
@@PhillipSkraba interesting and so far I didn’t use sport mode to shoot. I only use it to go to the target fast, shoot in vine mode and then come back in sport again. It is hard to keep it on the frame, specially for the parallax effect 💪🏻💪🏻
Late to the party, just got my first drone (the Mini 2) and found your channel. Turn out that playing Xbox for ages helps A LOT with drone flying 👍
If you played Xbox you're going to be bad ass at flying drones! Playstation not too much, they're a little stiff on the sticks 😂
Great Mini 2 videos! Can't wait to check the rest out.
Thanks!!
Kopalnia na Białej Górze :D Dzisiaj tam spacerowałem ale pogoda na dużo nie pozwoliła, by polatać... Szczególnie, że dopiero się uczę 😂
Tak, super tam jest! Piekny bialy piasek.
Excellent shots !!! You should be on Hollywood 😊
Thank You!
Super intro grabbed my attention and fantastic advice on how to get these shots. Thank you so much
haha, that's just me fooling around. You're welcome!
Thank you so much! I have been waiting for many years to get a drone. After watching your video I am convinced I am ready to take the plunge. Your skills convinced me to give it a try. I was truly impressed by your videos.
You're welcome Mike! You'll love it, it's a wonderful hobby to have, and taking some time to polish your skills can really make flying it a huge pleasure. If you need a link for it, you can find one in the description of this video 🤜🏻🤛🏻
I like how I discovered this video right after I posted my first travel video with my Mini 2 in Croatia
I’m glad you did! I’m guessing Croatia is stunning 👌🏻
@@PhillipSkraba Yes! First time I've ever made a travel film, croatia was perfect to test out the Mini 2! Got some amazing footage
I can imagine!
sometimes a get nervous, and my dumb start shaking , and I have to stop, and start using both fingers on each stick.
Excellent, thorough descriptions, thanks!
Thanks Ken, glad you liked it!
Great tutorial, would you please share your camera settings and also the filter you used for Cathedral shots, thanks
I like the starting bits soo funny 🤣
Thanks!
i am so inspired all of your videos especially those cinematic footage. now i have dji mini 2 and ready to mimic your way.. i have to practice and practice maybe hehehe
Thank You! I'm sure with a little bit of flying you'll be pro in no time!
Nice video I just bought the mini 2 , you are a good teacher , thanks a lot 👍👍👍
Thank You! You're going to love it!
I got my mini 2 today and I love it so much!
I'm happy you like it!
My first flight this afternoon on my new mini 2, came home watched this and WOW! Showing what my small drone can do thanks
I hope you had fun! Yes, this little drone looks like child’s play but it’s actually a monster in disguise 🔥
@@PhillipSkraba There is so much to learn its basically an photo hobby but that's why I loved your stick control here will be far better tomorrow when we get out again.
The more you practice the more you’ll be able to pull this off in your sleep. It gets a lot easier the more you fly.
I love to watch your videos because you're really providing good information and i can clearly see you're really passionate about this!
Thank You! Yes, I'm very passionate about it, drones, filmmaking, photography, that's basically my life.
You have the best explanations of how to move the sticks to get the desired look. Love it! Keep it up!
Excellent, try, try and try ... As many times as necessary. A lot of training .... I need this, my finger is very heavy. Thank you for the tips.
Thank You! Yes, practice, be really smooth and delicate on the sticks and you'll be smooth in no time.
YOU GOT ME IN THE FIRST 10 SECONDS !😂
hahaha, oldest trick in the book! 😂 I'm glad you liked it!
Great channel and video. That last shot is so tricky but when you get it right ....wow.
Thanks for the help mate!!!!!
Thank You David! Last shot takes some work but can look really Hollywood when you nail it.
Lot of totally helpful tricks! thank man!
I'm glad you like them! Thanks!
Lol! I'm not a stick pincher either. I have driven rc cars , flown planes and helis. It just isn't natural. Thanks for another great vid!!!
Damn stick pinchers 😂 No, it's not natural, it feels weird, looks weird and isn't at all smoother than flying thumbs. Thumbs doesn't spasm your fingers. You're welcome Jax!
Great video for a total novice like me. Your settings solved my choppy video issues. Loving your style. Thanks very much. You have a new subscriber
Thank You! I'm glad I could help you out. Great to have you aboard!
Phillip Skraba 👍
"don't flick the sticks!" and then flicks them all the time hehehe :B
No flicky flicky Rafal!
I love how dramatic you are 😂🤣
haha, I like going all Hollywood on this stuff, adds to the humour!
Great video. I get my Mini 2 this Sunday. Can’t wait to take it hiking.
Thank You! Have fun with it 🔥
want good advice? use the controller without the sticks and just the nubs the sticks normally screw into. wayyy more control and the sticks put your fingers up higher and make small changes harder, nubs allow your hands to lay on the controller more and being lower allows more control
Nope. That's just dangerous.
@@PhillipSkraba so you believe using the extended sticks are safer in some way?
Great Job on this video Philip, this is the single video on UA-cam which explains exactly what you need to do with these sticks... 👍
Some people like GoPro'ing the sticks, I'm not a fan of that, I prefer you hold the pad, watch the screen and I walk you through it. Thank you, glad you liked it!
I learn so much about flying from you!
I'm glad to hear that!
I don't think you understand, how much help and insight your videos give.. thank you sir..
You're welcome, I'm glad to hear that!
You made it clear it has to be done smooth and you have to practice a lot to be 1/3 good like you!
Nah, 2 weeks flying these moves and you'll be smooth as butter!
I’ve been viewing a ton of drone culture videos lately including bunch of your vids, but this is the one that got me to click and subscribe. Keep up the great work Phillip!
Thank You! That makes my day Christopher, I appreciate the sub!
Today got my first dji drone ever, searched for beginners tuts and youtube dropped your channel first and deeem what a quality content here! 👍👍 Subscribed!
Thank You Otari! Did you get the Mini 2, how do you like it? Great to have you on board!
@@otarikokojevs Gotcha! -4C is totally safe in my book! Actually was out yesterday in temperatures around that and had nice success! Likely will be out again today flying! Totally getting addicted to this little Mini 2 drone, haha!
thank you so much! I've learned alot
You're welcome!
Thank you for this! Thank you for making a how-to video that is very easy to follow, how to shoot properly using this drone. A very straightforward informative content. 💯 👌
You're welcome, I'm glad you liked it.
Will practice using this video!
thank you fro sharing, greetings from Brazil !!!
You're welcome, greetings from Poland!
wow, that is some flawless fllying skills!!
Thank You! You should have seen my first ever flight, went straight into my car 😂
@@PhillipSkraba lol. i hope that wont be me after my first ever flight... just got my mini 2 delivered. which will also be my first drone ... :)
Just be calm, no trigger happy stuff or that'll land you in a world of trouble.
0:30 this is part where your intro should hit :D
Yeah?
This was really helpful. Thanks!
