  • I wanted a bed divider to keep smaller things from rolling around in my truck bed, but I didn't want to pay upwards of $300 for an OEM one, so I made my own.

    My 95 S-10 bedliner didn't have pockets, for boards. I just made a 2x4 frame that straddled the rear tire bump outs. Held together with screws and flat right angle brackets. Gave me 3 different places for loads. About $20 for everything.

    Nice looking project. The flush ring pulls are slick, but I'd probably cheap out by mounting 2X or 3X as many eye-bolts to the same face, or screwing a piece of pipe or tubing to the face (with a spacer) for infinite mounting points.
    Structurally, I'd be concerned using that design to contain heavier sliding objects because, without trapping the base of the divider from fore/aft movement, the force of impact will potentially pivot the divider around the axis of that upper 2X4 in its relatively narrow wood beam socket, potentially dismantling the whole thing by shearing the upper Kreg joints. Again, that's only a concern for heavy objects that are prone to sliding. That risk could be abated with a U- or angle brkt mounted to the bed at the lower corners, but then you'd probably end up stubbing your toes or cutting your bare feet on them. (Life is hard.)

    I wish ford had a solution for removing the slots on the side of the power outlet. Used to just throw wood in those slots and call it done.

    For my storage issues I bought a Rubbermaid product with a hinged lid. It fit perfectly across the bed of my Ranger, then I just used a 1" rachet strap to secure it. It has a capacity of roughly 120 quarts, so it'll handle groceries and many other items. Had it for almost 25 years and still works well.
    Might've been a good idea to put a single screw in from the other side of the short 2x4s for more strength.

    Question: Since you already had the special E-mounting wall bracket that the E-brackets attache to, you could have used the same for the tie downs since they also make tie down brackets that snap into the same wall bracket? Great idea and thanks for showing that we all make mistakes. Measure twice, cut once. Cheers!

    • @ascudteh
      @ascudteh 2 роки тому

      The Kreg Jig uses special drill bits, sort of like a morph between an end mill and a center drill. Also, regular screws down work real well in bringing the pieces together well. The pocket-hole type screws have a flat under the head instead of an angled surface.
