No doubt that the value is now on 11 Gen with a B560 motherboard and thanks to the B660 series. Best value for money right now is the 11400F and just buy a better graphics card.
It's the best value right now, true... but if you think long term maybe not so much. If you buy a B560/11400F combo it's considerably cheaper than a B660/12400F, no doubt, but it will need upgrading sooner, and when you do you'll have to buy everything again (you're limited to 11th gen CPUs, and your DDR4 will be no good after a couple gens). If you wait a little bit until B660 boards come down to more realistic prices, you'll be good for a couple more years without the need for upgrading, you'll have 13th gen CPUs as a stopgap solution, and when you finally replace everything DDR5 prices will be more affordable as well.
@@GuillermoSTD 200 EUR/USD at least more on graphics card will always give more performance than 200 EUR/USD more of CPU/Motherboard combo, especially on this times.
@@pbrigham agreed, but I'm not suggesting that anyone rushes to fork out 250€/USD on a B660 motherboard when they're obviously at their peak price. As availability improves these prices need to come down significantly, and just as with B560 there will be decent mobos around the 150-160 mark (as bad as it is, there's already a crappy ASUS PRIME B660M-K D4 on amazon for 140€ locally and in stock). The price premium right now for 12400F/B660 compared to 11400F/B560 is around 100-ish, at least in EU, and in a few months it will be closer to 60-ish making it the better choice by far.
@@GuillermoSTD to me really don't need dd5 right now the speeds for ddr5 ram that is out now are 4800 to 6000 MHZ are still kind of low and the timing is high as hell I would drop ddr4 when the speeds in ddr5 is like 8000 MHZ to 10000 MHZ which I heard it can go up to 8400 MHZ and in time probably in the 10000 MHZ until that happens, I just won't touch ddr5. Plus, probably going have to wait until a few gens to even get ddr5 and the price drop anyways.
the MSI MAG B660M is basically the same board in terms of power delivery and external + internal I/O except it lacks WiFi. but it's a mATX board!! and basically 50 bucks cheaper.
Bought a Lian Li Lancool III case, since I thought I was getting the Asus PRIME 760 board , it's a ATX case. but with a 12400f CPU @PCBuilder directed me away from it as id have issues with it and with his 12400 build video I found this MSI MAG B660 tomahawk WiFi board!!! I'm not getting an mATX case so it'll look goofy as all hell 😂😂I love the size and look of the ATX best anyways!!

I have an Asus H610m-A. I'm not one to update BIOS unless I actually have a problem and this time I was lucky. Undervolt on my 12600K works flawlessly. Offset use of 0.150mv and Full Load temperatures go from 85º to 64º using a Deepcool AG400... I was wanting to get a B660M from MSI Pro B660m DDR4 Wifi but many reports of problems. Upgrading to a Z690 increases the cost too much and I'm not going to overclock. It seems to me that I am lucky to have my H610m A... I wish I could use a high speed SSD and my other 2 DDR4 modules that are stopped due to lack of available slots on the Motherboard but it is difficult to define which card to go with so many limitations of these new BIOSes.
If you are building a new system now, the choice would be a B560/i5-11400 and B660/i3-12100. MSI has largely ignored the H570/H670 and preferred to offer a more profitable B660 board. I think most of their B560/660 boards are overpriced and their marketing is doing great to get enthusiasts and gamers to buy them. If you are on a tight budget, I'd suggest waiting a bit for prices to stabilise. I think Asus and Gigabyte offers a little better value, especially if you have a need for more M.2 slots and the H670 DMI x8 bandwidth to the processor.
@@dylanmacias9266 You might want to take a look at the i5-12600 or i5-12600K? They have better performance, lower cost and lower power consumption compared to the 11700K.

Hello! I live in Eastern Europe (Romania). I brought an i5 12600k at 270 USD, i5 12400 is now 247 USD. Is it bad to grab a B660 mobo for the i5? A H670? Or put more money for a Z690? My problem is i have a X470 Gaming 7 (i want to upgrade to have Intel and a iGPU, also the good price of i5) and i need the same features, radiators on NVMe, SPDIF output and Wi-Fi so minimum from what i have found is the Tomahawk series. Will i be in a bad situation for next 3 years if i go for B660 or will i be much better with a Z690. I am not desperate to do OC, i want to upgrade to a 6700XT when prices will be a little better.
While I agree the current human malware situation, chip issues, logistics etc is increasing costs of more “budget friendly” offerings so to speak, the same situation is showing many people are willing to spend more and as a result the more “budget friendly” offerings too have had there RRP/MSRPs increasing accordingly 😭😢🤕
I was about to buy a 10400F or 11400F but managed to get the 12400 and this B660 board for like $50 extra. So far so good! edit: If I was to do a redo I might get the Aorus Master instead, but honestly this is still a good board, and it seems that some people have figured out a way to boost the 12400 speeds which is insane.
How are the temps? Are you facing any issues with the new socket? because I heard about the whole bending thing which I'm not sure what it's all about.
@@illogical1421 I'm using the stock cooler which is fine unless you are doing serious professional work or BLCK overclocking. I've had no issues and am really happy with the chip.
High end b660 boards are way overpriced but since 12400 is consuming way less power compared to 11400 it looks like even sub $130 b660 boards wont have throttling/heating issues. Also in the past few days there was info about non K chips being overclockable by tinkering with BLCK on Asus ROG z690 boards. Would be interesting to see if thats the case with B660 boards as well.
it's the opposite, 11400 was 65 watt same as 12400, but i have the i5 11400 and i haven't experienced any kinda throttling and im using Asus Prime Z590-P wifi mobo. the m.2 used next to the CPU adds extra heat, that's why i don't use a NVME drive, they accumulated heat, that's why i sold one i had to get a standard SSD sata drive, i used that to put my OS on, and bought a 2TB HDD for main storage. M.2 are fast, but putting it next to the CPU generates more heat.
someone please help me find the proper cooler for my b660, same model. im trying to use 2x vengeance ddr4 rgb pro ram and a rtx 3080 and a fractal define r5 for a case. im trying to use a rock pro 4 as a cooler and all im getting is more frustrated and not getting anywhere. im new to pc building so please help me!!
One can call something overbuilt in terms of having better quality then needed or overbuilt in terms of stupid features. This board is the latter. Case-in-point: two 8-pin CPU power connectors? Really? On a non overclockable board. That's just plain dumb
If the upgrade is not CRITICAL right now, I’d certainly wait for AM5. Nvidia 4000 series I’d wait for the release to try and get something close to MSRP on release date
Don't forget there is no indication AM5 will support DDR4. So you will not only be an early adopter for the AM5 CPU, the X670 Mobo, but you will also need to buy (and find) expensive DDR5 memory.
All 600 series boards so far are either too crap to buy or too expensive to justify. I'd rather wait for AM5 if the pricing of AM4 is anything to go by.

in bulgaria 12600k is 350 usd... b660 cant overclock z690 can thats the difference and also more usb ports and m.2 its not worth it to go with 690
