I love this song... But what I love the most about it... Is something I read in an old interview with Lemmy he said something like "I don't really like to play cards... But it's hard to write a song about playing slot machines"
If you ever go to Los Angeles, visit the Rainbow Bar & Grill. Love this tune. Thanks for checking it out. Motorhead was kind of the first band the punk kids and the metal kids could agree on. The punk kids loved them because of their straight ahead, no frills, no nonsense approach. Also they were fast. The metal kids loved them because of the searing riffs, the wicked solos, their lyrical content and vocal delivery. Also, they were fast.
lol.. And that was his natural voice at all times. RIP Lemmy Kilmister, Motorhead is one of the founding Metal bands along with Sabbath, Maiden and Priest. They blended the attitude of Punk and the power of Metal. Thank you fellas for finally doin this Classic
Hell Yeah! I went to Best Buy and bought a PS2 and THPS3 after playing it at a friends house one weekend. I probably spent somewhere between 500-1000 hours playing that game. It had a super cool soundtrack. I still remember the cheat code for perfect rail balance, manual balance, etc...BACKDOOR.
Lemmy was a gambler, but he was the hardest parting human on the planet. The Ace of spades is also a reference to a kill card used by soldiers to mark their kills, and you could also draw a correlation to Aces and Eights otherwise known as the dead mans hand.
And also there is a correlation between the term "ace", as used to describe something very good, and the very good nature of the song. For example, you could say "This is an ace song".
All of a sudden since watching your videos my suggested video thing is full of “hip-hop heads react to (metal band or song)” you guys have set a trend but no one else comes close to your insights, energy or humour, thank you so much, love your videos and channel. Lemmy died a couple years back at age 74. He rocked, and toured right up til the end. He was rock, and metal incarnate. One of the all time greats. Motorheads music is pure, raw, rock/metal.
I was at one of his last shows, he played two songs and had to walk off because he was so weak. It was just awesome to see that he made the effort, he passed maybe a week on from that.
+Kian Raz Metallica started in 81 so actually they didn't exist then.. Motorhead was the first to be a normal no make up spandex wearing bitch sounding rocker.. Metallica followed and carried rock till now..The real sell out was the ones dressing and screaming like girls wearing makeup and spandex..they sold out they manhood..
Funny enough, there's LOADS of syncopation in this song. Especially that drum part. (Syncopation is just the emphasis on off-beats. It's the kind of thing you hear in jazz all the time, as well)
This song is about "not transition",..just building and building raw power......this is blow torch fire ...not meant to have deep movement nor dynamic emotional highs and lows.... nor melodic shape ,...this is a straight facepunch,...it is hard smashing on the gas pedal and hearing the engine dig in and rev higher and higher, as you go faster and feel torque pushing and roaring underneath you....not to sway with transition and pull you or slow you down and take corners or rise and fall on hills,...just a straight shot...like a Drag race ,,...not to embrace the finish,...but to hear and feel the power of the mechanism as it rises in output and blasts .out it's sonic anger and embraces its full capabilities...like a machine built to the nuts being pushed to it's limits and being finally able to roar like it realizes it was built for this and it finally gets to eat what it kills
Excellent and spot on description! Motörhead always fell into what I like to call "biker metal", the kind of stuff you'd hear at Sturgis or other motorcycle rallys. It's definitely not meant to be all fancy and technical, just straight up kick-you-in-the-teeth hard riding music.
Brent Anton I agree that Motörhead were the main influencers of speed thrash metal, Lem always claimed that Motörhead were a rock and roll band. We are Motörhead and we play rock‘ brill.
Innerself More accurately they prototyped it and maybe have the first recorded proto thrash on an album yes. But not accurate to call them a thrash metal band. Brighton Rock and Stone Cold Crazy are fantastic though aren't they.
Hard Lovin' Man by Deep Purple and He's a Woman She's a Man by the Scorpions probably also deserve a mention among the most influential proto/early thrash songs.
Lemmy, their singer who passed away quite recently, is basically known as the Godfather of Metal, together with ozzy, dio, rob halford. Him and ozzy were friends, he was good friends with metallica and Dave Grohl (nirvana/foo fighters) as well. James hetfield from metallica actually shaved his beard and had long hair to look like lemmy when they were just starting. Basically every rock and metal band looked up to and loved motorhead, and lemmy especially. That guy was one of a kind, he'll definitely be missed.
Mr. Roach that’s a very nice story, friend! I never met Ronnie, but he’s my hero. He seemed to be a very kind and gentle person. Got so sad when he left us :/
This is the most legendary song in the hole metal history. Ace of spades was extremly fast to its tine. And this one was the reason to a lot of children begins to play so fast as they can!!! This caused appearance to thrash metal and many other genres in future!! And also, Motorhead and Lemmy was the last group that connects true rock'n'roll from 60-70 with modern metal!!
Motorhead is a great band to enter due to the mixture between heavy metal guitars and punk-ish drumming. The thing is that you started from very new stuff, and this song is from the 70's and kind of a counter-act from the Zeppelin, the deep purple, and stuff like that. Anyway, I like your take on new things!
The man smoked two pacs of cigarettes a day and drank at least one bottle of Jack Daniels every day for around 30 years untill he switched to vodka of some sort. It's noo wonder his voice was so special.
@@jaherra2567 but that is real english rock and not that american mainstream rubbish... the americans try and try and try... but they never will have that energie and purity... its like a cat try to copy a dog...
Motörhead was a legandary band in Heavy metal and Rock "N" Roll music. Ace Of Spades song come out in 1980 with the studio album with the same name. Lemmy Kilmister that was Motörhead´s singer and bass player continued to play even when he had cancer, and was and still is a icon on metal scene. Lemmy died 2015. That was a little information about Motörhead.
What you said about "transitions" I would interpret as "dynamic range" which is what I liked early Led Zeppelin for; they weren't just ALL heavy, they had light and shade. However, Motörhead are just full-on pedal to the metal from go to whoah. That's their thing, that's what I have a grudging affection for, even if I don't have any of their LPs.
This is one of those songs that, when it comes on, you can't help but get energised and have a smile on your face. Triple H's theme for The Game was Motorhead.
I'd fuck up a trick run in Tony Hawk's, and instantly restart. As soon as I made it to this song, or Jerry Was A Racecar Driver, I'd end up killing it.
R.I.P Lemmy you were a true metal god - to see Motorhead in concert was an experience, i saw them and there were skinheads ,punks, metalheads a cross section of people in the audience you will be missed!!.
Awesome. I enjoy you and lot. The singer bassplayer Lemmy was THE icon in the rock/metal scene. A fkn legend and one of a dying breed. An irreplaceable character.
"He [Lemmy] sounds like an old war vet having a flashback". Nearly ended me. I used to laugh at the sheer trauma Lemmy exuded when singing "He's gonna steal your face" (Steal Your Face from the compilation No Remorse) so that remark tickled my funny bone.
Ryan does a fantastic impression of Doc Rivers while trying to do Lemmy's voice!!!! Hahahaha!!! Shout out to George for the laughs...deep down he is a hardcore metalhead!!! Can't wait to hear your reaction to Chuck Schuldiners voice in *Death - Crystal Mountain!*
Rest in Peace, Lemmy. You have to see the Metallica tribute to Lemmy. It's called Murder One off of their new album. Lemmy was a God among men in the metal scene.
The reason this song has stood the test of time is that moment where you both looked at eachother and in unison say The Ace Of Spades most adolescent young men has had that same moment with their bestfriend which allows eveyone to share a moment of medal history

Motorhead are legends. Not one of my favorites but their legend is undeniable. And Ace of Spades is absolutely their best song. So great idea. The riff is iconic. I saw them with Maiden and Dio in Va. Many many years ago. Incredible show. Lemmy's whiskey soaked vocals were certainly not technically good but they were always memorable. And seemed like a hell of a cool dude as well. RIP Lemmy

Another fun, honest, free thinking reaction video. Yeah, the first time I heard this song in 1981 I HATED it. It was really a radical song back then - it was a full on Punk Metal song played at high speed, and Lemmy's vocals were a little too out there for me at first. A couple days later I flipped the album over and heard The Chase Is Better Than The Catch and warmed up to Lemmy's style, then came around on this song after a couple weeks. It's been one of my favorites ever since. It's a GREAT driving song...
I heard it the first time around 1984 age 12 when watching the british comedy "the young ones" (link to YT-video clip ua-cam.com/video/co9yv2NjyWs/v-deo.html). It was at that time just a little bit too much and over the top for me as I was more into melodic rock so yeah I too hated it at first. It took me 3 years to turn around as I was getting new friends to hang with who was the free thinkers that introduced me to harder, faster, angrier metal and punk rock. Since then Motorhead has been on my mixed tapes, in my vinyl collection, in my CD collection and now on my hard drive on all my computers and phones. Ace of spades is an iconic classic but truth is I like the song The Chase Is Better Than The Catch more... it is Lemmys hymn to why he began playing music and started bands... getting girls. Bless him.
Hell yeah! And checkout that painfully cheesy (but entertaining) Tales From The Crypt Demon Knight movie this Pantera track headlined the soundtrack for while you’re at it. Hmm...maybe a Lost In Vegas movie review/reaction page for all us free thinkers? ;)
Well, if you're talking godfather of Metal, that would be Ozzy. No disrespect towards Motorhead at all. In fact, they were one of the bands (along with Priest and others) that made it harder for Black Sabbath to continue to succeed towards the late 70s because beginning to adopt a faster pace. So you could say Motorhead is the "godfather" of faster-paced metal but even then they would be competing with Judas Priest as well. Ozzy is the godfather of Metal though. You can't deny it.
I went to Coachella a few years ago and on the last day, my friend told me to come check out this band. I’ve always heard about Motörhead but I never had the chance to see them. It was the last set if the weekend and man it was so amazing! I got to see Lemmy perform before he passed away. Oh and Slash came out too :) RIP
God Rest the mighty Lemmy Kilmister!!! Without Motorhead, there would be no Metallica. Without Motorhead there would be no "Big Four" or Thrash Metal. Lemmy's voice was just like his personality...rough, full throttle and straight forward. When you asked for more dynamic, that kind of technicality came later in Metal. When "Ace of Spades" was released, punk was trying to take over and Lemmy and the crew were having no part of it. I'm glad you both enjoyed it because this song, this band and this man (excuse me, this GOD known as Lemmy) are REVERED amongst the metal masses. Lemmy was infact a gambler, but the reality of the song is that he gambled with his life. Fast paced, fast women, booze and hard living...Lemmy IS what Metal is all about.
It's so great when you guys are having a good time because that means all of US will have a good time. And a good time I had indeed. This is a fun song, as you say, and that fun is infectious. Yaaaaaasss!!!! Playlist, baby!! The thing with Motörhead is that they would always make straightforward live friendly tracks. And this comes from somebody who discovered them in a sweaty concert hall in Nottingham, UK by recommendation of a college friend and has been a die-hard fan ever since.
José Nicanor Liberos Mascarell the highest energy concert I ever went to was Lacuna Coil, Volbeat, Motorhead, Megadeth. One of the few times I left a show exhausted.
motörhead is one of the bands that was always great and never compromised their sound or went commercial. besides lemmy’s voice changing their first and last album are super similar. they were as real as it gets. one of my favorite bands.
I disagree, the best song in my opinion is Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath. The songs War Pigs, Into the Void, Electric funeral and Hand of Doom are very good too.
The legends! Motorhead bridged the gap between Black Sabbath and the Metallica/Slayer/Megadeths of the world. They were straight forward, in your face, no fuss, no muss, high octane rock and roll. They were also the rare band that appealed to both punks and metalheads alike. They were also one of the earliest metal bands to incorporate the double kick style of playing. Much respect!
I love this song... But what I love the most about it... Is something I read in an old interview with Lemmy he said something like "I don't really like to play cards... But it's hard to write a song about playing slot machines"

First time my 8 year old daughter heard this, she said "Dad, this sounds like the definition of rock and roll." I've never been so proud.
Good girl!
Michael G You have a very smart daughter !!!! :)))
she obviously has a very responsible parent.
keep up the good work fella.
r/thathappened
Michael G it’s metal
Love this tune. Thanks for checking it out.
Motorhead was kind of the first band the punk kids and the metal kids could agree on. The punk kids loved them because of their straight ahead, no frills, no nonsense approach. Also they were fast.
The metal kids loved them because of the searing riffs, the wicked solos, their lyrical content and vocal delivery. Also, they were fast.
Nailed it!!!!
lol.. And that was his natural voice at all times. RIP Lemmy Kilmister, Motorhead is one of the founding Metal bands along with Sabbath, Maiden and Priest. They blended the attitude of Punk and the power of Metal. Thank you fellas for finally doin this Classic
RIP Lemmy, RIP Motorhead :(
George has it right! Motorhead is exactly the soundtrack to a barfight!
Awesome comment!
Anyone remember this on - Tony Hawk's Pro Skater on PlayStation
Thought there'd be lots of comments about it haha
My first introduction to the great Motorhead
Right? Anyone who played that game has heard this songs hundreds of times!
Especially in the airport ripping down flags while AOS playing in the background....... CHAOS !!!!!!
Hell Yeah! I went to Best Buy and bought a PS2 and THPS3 after playing it at a friends house one weekend. I probably spent somewhere between 500-1000 hours playing that game. It had a super cool soundtrack. I still remember the cheat code for perfect rail balance, manual balance, etc...BACKDOOR.
looks like it jus us
Lemmy was a gambler, but he was the hardest parting human on the planet. The Ace of spades is also a reference to a kill card used by soldiers to mark their kills, and you could also draw a correlation to Aces and Eights otherwise known as the dead mans hand.
Lunger77 I hope they read your comment, man 🤘💀 RIP Lemmy 🖤
And also there is a correlation between the term "ace", as used to describe something very good, and the very good nature of the song.
For example, you could say "This is an ace song".
RIP Lemmy! Timeless classic right there. Thanks for this reaction.
R.I.P Lemmy Kilmister
James Woods rip eddie and phil as well
@@jasonparsons7653 if we start this, we have a long list to do...
@@seelenwinter6662 yeah we would, but i was just adding the other two original motorhead musicians
Rest In Peace, Lemmy, Philthy Animal Phil, and Fast Eddie - Hardcore Legends.
HAIL them all!!! \m/ \m/
All of a sudden since watching your videos my suggested video thing is full of “hip-hop heads react to (metal band or song)” you guys have set a trend but no one else comes close to your insights, energy or humour, thank you so much, love your videos and channel. Would love to hear yas give Roquefort by Karnivool a listen!
yeah I saw that too. so many hip hop guys listening to metal. are they really open to new music or just want views, I dont know, but these guys do the best reaction/review vids.
They want views.
These guys, however, are the real deal. The OG!
Lemmy died a couple years back at age 74. He rocked, and toured right up til the end. He was rock, and metal incarnate. One of the all time greats. Motorheads music is pure, raw, rock/metal.
He died in 2015 and he was 70 years old when he passed away.RIP LEMMY!!
He partied till the end too
TheIndianscout you are correct
Joseph Parris He was very punk rock as well. Lol
I was at one of his last shows, he played two songs and had to walk off because he was so weak. It was just awesome to see that he made the effort, he passed maybe a week on from that.
RIP Fast Eddie, Philthy Animal and Lemmy.
Everything louder than everyone else.
Lemmy is God!
John Rider who would win in a fight Lemmy or God?
Rich Auclair trick question, Lemmy is god
I miss this Bastards every day
Lemmy is the Macho Man Randy Savage of metal.
No, that's Clutch on their self-titled, lol.
Ooooh YEEEEEEAH!
Brilliant
without them there would be no Metallica..He is Rock GOD..
get over it laughing Metallica and megadeth are the sons of mortorhead
Too bad they existed then hahaha! Metallica = shitty pop since 1990
+Rujubally Fazoul we know who is favorite kid was.. Metallica.. Megadeath was like the afterbirth.. leftovers that got thrown away..
+Kian Raz to bad Megadeath died in the 80's and never could hang.. everyone changes at some point..
«We are Motorhead, and we play rock’n’roll» Holy crap i miss that guy 😔
"Metal elitist in training." That comment made me literally lol. "Polyrhythms" lol
lol
Funny enough, there's LOADS of syncopation in this song. Especially that drum part.
(Syncopation is just the emphasis on off-beats. It's the kind of thing you hear in jazz all the time, as well)
Syncopation is the basis of the back-beat on the verses. Oddly catchy for a pre-thrash metal anthem.
prog snobs are for sure a thing lol
I leave comments on mobile, so I tend not to come back to em. Appreciate the shout out. Thanks.
He was a hard drinking, hard smoking bass player who lived life to the fullest. If you were his friend, you were his friend for life.
Whatever the hell you were trying to ennunciate, OMG... this reminded me of those old rockn roll mags from the 90s :)
I enjoyed reading your description. It’s spot on.
Excellent and spot on description! Motörhead always fell into what I like to call "biker metal", the kind of stuff you'd hear at Sturgis or other motorcycle rallys. It's definitely not meant to be all fancy and technical, just straight up kick-you-in-the-teeth hard riding music.
Terminator approves!
TANTRUM GASM I got goose bumps reading that!
Classic heavy metal/speed metal/classic rock. These guys are a main influence for Speed and Thrash Metal.
Antares 8001 I can't argue with that.
Zulamun not just rock and metal punk owes a lot to Motorhead as well and I mean real punk
And he wrote Ozzy's song Mama I'm Coming Home in less than an hour
Lol, Ozzy? Tony Iommi is the real mind behind Black Sabbath
Mr. Scowl Face yeah! We was just lucky enough to be in the right place, at the right time
Ace of Spades was released in 1980 jack! lol
Wut? Ace of Spades was off their 3rd album
Good point, Pily. Have you seen the videos in which they commented an Iron Maiden song? check it out.
Cemetery gates by Pantera . The solo at the end will blow you away
Motörhead was a huge influence and inspiration for Metallica
In fact, there will be no Metallica without Motörhead, cause Lars Ulrich always said that he start to learn music because he is a huge fan of Lemmy.
Enter sandman was a cover from motorhead
Dudes are funny as hell with Lemmy's voice.
@@jaherra2567 He also used a normal singing voice in a few songs though, such as "I don't believe a word" and "God was never on your side".

The Cryptid Hunter & Phil,& Fast Eddie.
I have never heard anyone laugh while listening to Ace of Spades. That was surprising and awesome because you made me laugh too. Keep it up guys.
hell yah man I'm sitting here smiling my ass off watching these guys enjoying motorhead
S A M E !
Yeah but it is funny when you think about it. Like it's fun to yell Ace of Spades in your car
Marc Edwards hell yeah
Marc Edwards King of Kings was also done by Motorhead for Triple H
The Evolution theme was also Motörhead. HHH is a huge Lemmy fan
Pantera - Cemetery Gates
Interesting request! I think an EVEN BETTER song to react to would be Pantera's "Use My Third Arm"! Haha! Yeah!
Great song with strong meaning. Theyd like this for the lyrics and song also
Yeah!
Great observation. Motörhead could basically be a soundtrack for any bar fight. 😆
*Rainbow - Stargazer*
Heavy request for a long time now!
Arkadius someone give this man a Beer, such and amazing song!
Awesome. I enjoy you and lot.
The singer bassplayer Lemmy was THE icon in the rock/metal scene. A fkn legend and one of a dying breed. An irreplaceable character.
Megadeth - Hangar 18! I'm telling you guys. you'll LOVE the transitions!
It'll be awesome, and they are more used to metal now.
But due to their background they may like "Peace Sells" more. It has great groove and lyrics.
The very definition of rock'n'roll. breakneck tempo, gargling with broken glass vocals, brain-melting guitar, ear-worm hook, It's the whole package.
Lemmy was one of those guys who loved himself in the right ways. He was known for listening to his own music frequently. RIP Lemmy
Tool - The Pot
The bass line and groove are so good
I second this. One of Maynard's best performances, and the rhythm section is next level.
Tool is just absolutly incredible when it comes to their bass lines! (Let alone tool in general)

Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing! Classic song, I think you guys would like it
The reason this song has stood the test of time is that moment where you both looked at eachother and in unison say The Ace Of Spades most adolescent young men has had that same moment with their bestfriend which allows eveyone to share a moment of medal history
Lemme is a legend. Hardcore follower of the channel and couldn't click on this fast enough. P.s. Machine Head - HALO

RIP Lemmy
How lucky you are to see all of them at once!
Jack n Coke is also called a "LEMMY" that was his Drink. He's one of the few rockstars that died of natural causes, not an overdose like most
Which is pretty remarkable given his lifestyle

Bless him.

What?!! Worst song Pantera ever recorded!! Name one of their songs that sucks worse than that one.....
This are the reactions what rock´n roll should create. Fun, laughter, fun lyrics. And it comes so pure out of you guys.. Great
Lemmy doesn't have a great voice but that rough growl made a lot of money. That song is old now and it paved the way for the heavy metal growl.
Lemmy is the godfather of Metal. May he rest in peace......nah. Hope he's going 120 mph lit up and on the loose!
@@marc8828 yeah to my knowledge motorhead was one of the first "speed metal" bands. But not metal in general
Lemmy is more so the badass biker uncle that gives you wise cowboy words of Windom
Marc I would say the entirety of sabbath are The Godfather’s of metal, there wouldn’t be any of those amazing songs without Iommi, Geezer, and Bill
Lemmy was a hippy until 1975!! He ain't the godfather of heavy metal! 😂

I went to Coachella a few years ago and on the last day, my friend told me to come check out this band. I’ve always heard about Motörhead but I never had the chance to see them. It was the last set if the weekend and man it was so amazing! I got to see Lemmy perform before he passed away. Oh and Slash came out too :) RIP
that . would . have . been . amazing
Motorhead, the best band to put on when you have a room full for punks and Metalheads and they cant agree on what to listen to
God Rest the mighty Lemmy Kilmister!!!
Anyone introduced to Motorhead by the series 'The young ones'? I think they might appreciate 'Joy of Labour' more.
That's how I was introduced. Loved them ever since.
Yup, same here. Bought a Motörhead shirt the next day.

The thing with Motörhead is that they would always make straightforward live friendly tracks.
And this comes from somebody who discovered them in a sweaty concert hall in Nottingham, UK by recommendation of a college friend and has been a die-hard fan ever since.
