A story: In '75 (when I was 15) I was playing this album on Dad's system in the living room on a Sunday morning...quietly, because my Dad (who was 39) was sleeping. Plus, this wasn't really Dad's kind of music anyway. So I go into the kitchen about 3 minutes into the song to get a drink...and I heard the volume go up. I came storming into the living room going to chew out one of my older sisters for turning it up...and there stood Dad. HE had turned it up. The man didn't own a single 'rock' album at the time...but just as he had passed a love of jazz to me, I in turn influenced him into Queen and Led Zeppelin and Supertramp as the years went on. Now I'm 57, he's 81...and we share lots of good times sharing music we BOTH love.
great story that`s what happened to-- in 2017 i was 11 me and my dad he listens to all this old music but i didn't know i thought he only listened to rap so like a year ago i started listening to heavy metal and all rock first i asked him do you like Metallica and he said yes so i put on Master of puppets and then we listened to basically all rock and heavy metal now i`m 12
Beginning is “A cappella” - 2nd is “Ballad” - 3rd is “Operatic” - 4th is “Hard rock and 5th is “Coda” - And there’s the genius. It’s not a song. It’s a “piece”.
Brandon Ross i don’t even know how i memorized this song, i feel like i heard it once, fell in love, and it was just all stuck in my head from that one time
So surprised y’all didn’t do more Queen after this. So many great songs from these legends! Man, the musicianship and Freddie, never be another Queen..
Experienced many a times in high school. I am so glad I grew up during the 70's. You can be a head banger, a soft rock lover, a Ballard love -. And blessed to See Queen 🌹
little history for you. Freddie Mercury wrote and composed this entire song 10 years before Queen recorded it. It took 70 hours to record and took 160 overdubs. Freddie even wrote the awesome guitar solo. And sadly Freddie thought he was mediocre as a piano player the one you see in the video was the same piano Paul McCartney played when recording Hey Jude. So happy to be a child of the 60's. Music was amazing
Freddie wrote this by his damn self too. Puts into perspective these pop stars who have 10 people writing their simplistic 3 minute pop ditties for them.
joe michael vincent, all the hit songs back in freddie's day were made by bands like led zep, deep purple and god damn pink floyd, all of their songs were written by band members, no one else. also, many of iron maiden's songs were written by their bassist, all of the songs of dire straits were written by the legend, mark knopfler. your argument is invalid.
He does indeed have. PhD . Roger Taylor the drummer is a BSc and John Deacon has a Batchelor of Electronic engineering. Freddie had a diploma of art and graphic design .
SpotFest I’m sorry but if you are a rock fan, let alone a music fan, you’d know the difference in guitarists’ playing styles. Brian May’s style is instantly recognizable to my ears and I’m sure many fans as well. He could play guitar solo without the rest of Queen, and we’d know it was Brian playing. So this is not something “any guitarist could” play. The soul, the feel, the passion that he puts in, is a huuuge part of queen. Freddie might be the heart of queen but all of the members are key components.
It's a 7 minute opera. That's the whole point of the song. Main figure explains his crime, the crazy part in the middle is essentially the trial, he rocks out when explaining why he did it, the end is him accepting his fate.
@@lauriesensing3450 feelings are not fact ;) The first ever case of aids was diagnosed more than five years after this was written. So that's is a zero part of the song. Right about the coming out part though. Accepted info is that it was about him coming out, specifically to his (Zoroastrian, anti- homosexual) mama.
"Scaramouche is a stock character from the Italian clown tradition commedia dell’arte. He’s a fool, but adept at getting himself out of trouble. A fandango is a Spanish flamenco dance. Galileo was a Florentine astronomer, the inclusion of whom may be a nod to noted stargazer Brian May. Figaro is, of course, taken from Rossini’s opera The Barber of Seville. Bismillah means “in the name of Allah” and is the first word in The Qu’ran, and “Mamma Mia!” is an Italian exclamation of incredulity or surprise, referring to the Virgin Mary. It is also the title of the song by ABBA that followed “Bohemian Rhapsody” to the top of the British charts in 1975." Just found this guys..... hope it helps.
Poor lad kills a man, runs to his mum full of regret, tells her not blubber and carry on and no weeping, gets caught by bobs uncle, pleads with the stern wig, the toff in the blue, the lock and key, dances the tyburn gallows dance and tells his tale to jeering mob, lad dies.
Yes, a true masterpiece. I believe that 100 years from now, the world symphonic orchestras will still have Bach, Mozart and so on in their repertoire, together with at least two pieces of music from the 20th century; Bohemian Rhapsody and Stairway to Heaven.
This song is actually a combination of 3 or 4 unfinished songs combined into ons of the greatest songs of all time. On the downside; it's had zo much airtime, I've just about had enough of it. What about Sheer Heart Attack, I'm in Love With My Car, Las Palabras de Amor? If music does unite, Queen will
Olive Freddie Mercury songs were masterpieces he did not record them until he was completely happy if he wasn't completely happy they continued until he was completely happy with the the end of the songs and the beginning of the songs Freddy put a lot of time and energy into Queen long rest Freddy Mercury
Best voice PERIOD!! His range is inhuman, I believe he had a range of 4 octaves, insane! Not just the range, the clarity and smoothness from bottom to top range is on point, he had no weakness throughout his range, just brilliant and and absolute genius and as frontmen go and how he reeled in and controlled a crowd, there has been no better, I remember watching the Live at Wembley concert at the old Wembley stadium on tv as a very young child, was 4 at the time and one of my very first memories, I am convinced my love for music, especially from that era, is down to that concert alone and whenever I watch it back now, it just gives me goosebumps, especially when they performed Radio Ga Ga, if you haven’t seen it, you need to!! When he died it was the biggest loss to music, just imagine how many more hits and classic rock anthems we would have been privileged to listen to, the concerts, I am still gutted to this day that I was too young to be able to go to a Queen concert, am talking original Queen, Queen isn’t Queen without Freddie, Freddie is irreplaceable, I am very jealous of those who got to go to Wembley in 86 for example, I bet that would take some beating! For me, personally, Queen and local lads Led Zeppelin are the greatest, there are plenty that come close, but Queen and Led Zeppelin kill it for me, Freddie...greatest vocals, Jimmy page best lead guitarist in my opinion, I know a lot of people won’t agree and I accept that, there is a lot a quality competition and plenty of names which I wouldn’t blame people for saying would be greatest in their opinion, the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton, Eddie Van Halen, Slash, Kirk Hammett, Dimebag Darrell, David Gilmore, Brian May, Randy Rhoads, I could go on and on, the list would be huge. John Bonham best drummer, again, in my opinion, just ahead of Neil Peart As for bassist, now this is more difficult, this is my personal favourite instrument, often more subtle and requires listening to a song more and with a high quality sound system to really appreciate and I think I have Fleetwood Mac’s The Chain to thank for that, lol. as Back to the Future is my all time favourite film, I have to throw Flea into the mix, not just because he is in BTTF but because he is definitely up there as one of my favourites and I love a good funky bass but if I had to give an honest opinion on the best, it would probably be Geddy Lee, top 5 in no particular order, Geddy Lee, Flea, John Entwistle, John Paul Jones and Cliff Burton, some might say Paul McCartney but to them I would ask, which one?? Pre 1967 Paul (the real Paul) or the Paul from Sergeant Pepper to present day, just thought I would chuck that little curveball in the mix (if your confused, enjoy researching it and having your mind blown like I had mine blown)
the greatest performer, musician, vocalist, l.g.b.t rep. Tough as nails, preformed in concert knowing he would be dead of complications from the aids vires
When you experience this song, its literally like you just watched a play on Broadway or saw an opera- the emotions, the ups and downs, the grit, the poignantcy...still get chills 💕🎵🎵
“Momma” was his wife, Mary. As in Mother Mary. The man he killed was the old Freddie. The new Freddie was involved in a completely new lifestyle, which both tore him up and opened him up to new feelings and experiences.
Gentlemen, it's a "Rock Opra" - beautiful! The genre is a Rock Opera... The changes and transitions are like "acts' in a play.... Imagine actors performing this in an opera....
These guys are going to be so huge on youtube. Look at the chemistry and charisma between the two of them. I think they are onto something with the whole rock music critique angle. These are pure reactions with a lot of articulation behind why they're reacting the way they do. These dudes have definitely gone to college and it wouldn't surprise me if they were smart enough to drop the fuck out after a couple of years because college is a waste of time of you're an entrepreneur.
I'm feeling your love for Queen bro, I love them too, grew up with them thanks to my parents. Just a really small thing mate, did you mean to say 'craftily'? Cos over here, that means sneaky or someone crafty is a person who is trying to get away with something a bit murky. I thought maybe you meant they are brilliant at their 'craft' which is music. Anyway, sorry for blethering on, take care mate 👍
The record label never wanted to release this song, at least not as a single, but Freddie and company had slipped a copy to a DJ friend of theirs in a large market and he "accidentally" played it one night and the call board lit up and the rest is history.
Also Mike Meyers was insistent on using it in Wayne's World. The producers wanted to use another song that was shorter and easier to watch, but Meyers was insistent, use Bohemian Rhapsody or he walks from the movie. He won, and this song reach a new level of popularity over a decade after its original release.
I remember when I read that how shocked I was to learn that. Kinda the same reason until very late in his life David Bowie wasn't appreciated as much in America until he passed.
Anna Jackson yeah, Queen didn't use drugs at all, maybe drunk sometimes, as they were actually VERY serious and scrupulous when it came to work. Amazing, but true! They were just geniuses, that's it!
Queen is my favorite band of all time and this song is normally what I start with everytime I listen to them. I'm so happy your reacted to them. This is one of the greatest songs of all time
Bohemian Rhapsody is just one of the most genius' pieces in music history. Queen was the first band I was a fan of (when I was around 10 years old and if David Hasselhoff doesn't count lol sorry, I'm German. We love him) so it brings back memories of my childhood every time. It reminds me of home. Since my dad passed away 4 years I like listening to queen even more :) all of their songs are great but this one is just one of a kind
Hahahaha it def has to do with Knight Rider and than Baywatch lol on top of that his music was just so popular here in early 90s, he was my hero. And don't forget that he sang on the wall in the night of German reunion hahahaha to be honest: I HAVE NO CLUE
My husband and I are 70. We had totally different pathways in life. Me wild child and him a pastor. I love putting this on and rockin with my quad speakers full volume. specially when he's working on a sermon.
Franni Barr you go girl, we all loved this song growing up as kids, my mum and dad loved Queen and had it on in the car, on cassette no less, at full volume with 350 watt speakers and a pre-amp in a Morris Marina, lol! Awesome song, awesome band, long live Freddie Mercury and Queen! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
I was chaperone on a school bus full of band kids and they were trying to sing this. I became the COOL MOM 😎on the trip because I could sing all of the lyrics correctly and help them sing it in its entirety! Rock on, y’all!
We sang this in choir in high school. It was actually requested by one of the seniors (I was a sophomore at the time). Our choir director found the sheet music and procured enough copies for 150 kids. It was awesome.
Freddie loved Opera. So they made a rock opera. :) It was panned by critics at the time (being pretentious and whatever), but loved by the people. :D Thanks for the channel, btw: been binge watching today! :D So fun.
First part he's singing about life to the audience. Second part he's confessing to his mother. Third part he's being judges for his crimes. Fourth part hes rebelling being bars. Fifth part hrs bringing back full circle. ....Just my take on it.
In the first part he is simply stating that he has made a mistake of some kind. We don't know what but he is "caught in a landslide" of his own making, there is no escaping from the reality of what he's done. In the next part he is relating exactly he has done to mother. The initial shock has passed and he must now comtemplate his next move. Whatever he does, life as he knew it is over. It could also be that he's already in jail/prison at this point and he is having that conversation in his head, wishing his mother was there. In the third part the guitar continues the tone of the previous part then changes suddenly as the central figure comes to terms fully with what he's done. The next section takes his emotional state into deeper and darker territory, from reflection and contemplation to depression. He becomes desperate and begs to be released. "I see a little silhouetto of a man" may simply be a reference to his inner demons. The next part is where our character achieves some kind of redemption and is in a better place emotionally. He finally achieves a sense of closure. Tries to put what he's done behind him and move on. He triumphs over the darkness and depression. Ultimately "nothing really matters". Basically this rock opera with its classical characters is analogy of Freddie's coming out; the emotional turmoil, the "death" of the Freddie that was a mask, to the eventual peace he finds within himself.
Justicescales123 you could not have described that better. And I love watching people hear the song for the first time I've just watched about 6 different people on UA-cam I just keep picking up because their reactions make me so happy.
In honor of movie coming out about Queen, you need to listen to Somebody to Love, live. Freddie was best front man in history and in the top 10 best vocalist.
Freddie is amazing. Period. But can we also talk about how Brian May killed it with that guitar solo? I feel like he doesn’t get enough credit for how brilliant he is.
@@charlespatrick1572 Yup - his dad helped him build it when he was a teen, and he's *still* playing it! He also works with NASA, is seriously into animal welfare and protection, (especially local British critters like hedgehogs, badgers, and foxes), and is still shredding with Queen. Dr. Brian May is officially the coolest 70-something physicist in the world.
Right let's get a couple of things straight Brian May is a Doctor, as far as I know he does work for NASA he may consult with them but work for then? No he does not build his own guitars, he built his red special when he was 18 with his dad, to his own spec's (which I won't bore you with), he's had companies build replicas of his guitars, I. E. Guild, burns, Greg fryer, he then took the licence from burns and started his own guitar company in his name to build the red special style guitars with his name. John Deacon only built ONE amp called the deacy amp using a stereo speaker and a large battery for use in the studio only, which gave a heavily overdrive guitar sound.
Freddie loved opera and that is why he wrote this song ,which turned out to be maybe the best song ever written , it's operatic rock. The song it self as far as I know has no meaning and is not about anyone . The bands in those days were very experimental and were always trying new things and mixing things up to make new sounds and new styles, they put tonnes of work into their music and you can tell when you listen to it, there is a video on UA-cam where Brian May explains how they made this track ,it's very interesting to watch. I have been a Queen fan since 1974 and I am still amazed at how good the sound and it makes me happy to see young people enjoying them. Thanks guys.
Jezz Lemm lucky you, you've probably even been to their live concerts! I discovered Queen for myself only in 1991 - when they actually have ended...can't stop thinking I was born too late, fell kinda jealous to you - in a good way, of course:)
Darkside Eric, Seeing Freddie's last live performance and it being my first concert (Thanks Pops), it was life changing and the entire reason I wanted to be a musician.
I've tried really hard to like this song but for some reason I don't. Maybe it's the impossibly high pedestal everyone and their cat puts it on, maybe it's just me. Although I do appreciate it for all that it is, how different it is especially for the time it was made, I still find myself just thinking "meh, it's alright". I await the comments saying I have no taste in music xD
Desolator69 I’ve never cared about anyone’s opinion. I personally have just absolutely always loved the song. It’s fun, it’s fun to sing to and I love all the changes. Not everyone has to love it as long as they appreciate the artists who made it. That’s the thing about music, you don’t have to like everything you hear. But a real music fan can appreciate things whether they like them or not, which you seem to.
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon - But you HAVE to each wear headphones, Roll from the first track. When asked about the creative process, and the behind the scenes making of that album, and how he felt about it, Roger Waters (bass) responded to the effect of 'Yeah, it was great. But I'd rather have been the kid who got to hear it as it is through headphones for the first time', Knowing that the end result is that good. Also David Bowie. You gotta dig on that!
I"ve always interpreted the lyrics of "I just killed a man," as Freddie coming out. Killing the false fascade of a straight man in a time where it wasn't accepted like it is now.
Yes right, i have read the same thing somewhere : the man who wrote the lyrics with F.Mercury told , after his death i suppose , that it was a metaphoric language , a hidden message to talk about Freddy's homosexuality, and that the man he "killed" in the song was his old self
Frank Csernetics You are right! Oh boy, that’s probably the power we feel from that song. A major milestone in his life. “Nothing really matters” was his realisation that it didn’t matter to him but he’s trying to reassure others around him that it didn’t matter, he was going to live and die as he wanted.
The Opera Part is actually a representation of Devils, Demons, and DemiGods fighting for his soul. Sounds weird and innocent but actually kinda surreal.
Freddie Mercury had one of the greatest voices in rock history. Even now, I can't think of any male rock singer who can match his range, phrasing and versatility. Great reaction, I love how just truly listening to a song and sharing how it makes you feel can bring so many people of different backgrounds and music tastes together to debate and share. Subscribed!
George Michael came close to range, power, and versatility... he even left David Bowie a bit silent when he sang with Queen in a rehearsal. George Michael was definitely overlooked for his immeasurable talent because of the scandals.
Your post got me researching and I found this article: How many singers have or have had a five (5) octave or greater voice range? www.quora.com/How-many-singers-have-or-have-had-a-five-5-octave-or-greater-voice-range TLDR: Freddie Mercury (Queen) - near 5 octave range. Axl Rose (Guns N Roses) - had the record for widest vocal range as a singer, beating Mariah Carey, despite smoking, which reduces your maximal range. Mike Patton (Faith No More) - near 7 octave range and is the current widest vocal range record holder. I still like Freddie the most out of these, but I thought others might find this info interesting as I did.
Actually, no. At the start, he commits a murder. He decides to run (goodbye, everybody...) he gets caught. The part you mentioned is the trial. He is found guilty. He tries the o escape (Just she gotta get right outta here). He fails and resigns himself to his fate.
It was Rock Opera made before the term Rock Opera even arrived. I knew I liked it the first time I ever heard it, which was on the car radio, and I wished I was at home hearing it on my home sound system, eventually I heard it played with volume at a friends house, as it should be played on a good sound system and set up. Brilliant piece of sound craft, production and engineering by Queen.
Made famous for the SECOND TIME on Wayne’s World. But, because of the age of these two guys, Wayne’s World would have been their introduction to Queen...I’m assuming. FYI...I think these two men are great!
@@kohakuaiko It's the only song to have topped the charts 3 times, 20 yrs apart over 50 years! First time when it was released, then in the 90's because of Wayne's World, and now again because of the movie Bohemian Rhapsody. That's a serious classic!
You're both diggin' on some classically trained orchestral and operatic influences on these geniuses. To me this is the perfect rock song. Check out this whole record, by Queen "A Night at the Opera". We played that vinyl thin in high school back in the day.
Kirby Caillet try listening this with stereo sound headphones/earphones from like Spotify so you can hear it go from one ear to the other to get the best experience
McCartney did "Band on the run" with the group "Wings" it also had many "transitions",gear changes/chapters,whatever you like to call them and was a massive hit record too.
*False.* Wayne's World didn't make Bohemian Rhapsody iconic. Bohemian Rhapsody made Wayne's World iconic! The only other song that even approaches Bohemian Rhapsody in terms of dimensions is "Stairway to Heaven"
It's no good trying to analyse the lyrics as Freddie never spoke about. Brian May said on the making of Bohemian Rhapsody that none of them knows what it's about. The harmonies are multi-tracked vocals of all of the band except John Deacon (Bass.) The bit in the middle was influenced by Freddie's love of opera. Oh, and the very high notes were sung by the Drummer Roger Taylor.
Guys, it's an opera. You need to look at the dynamics of classical music. When you research the 5 parts to an opera/symphony you'll understand this is not Disney. Good time with the reaction. 👍
As sick as I think I am of this song, I hear it and by the operatic part, I'm hooked all over again. Thank god for the '70's because the knuckleheads running what's left of the music industry would have NEVER allowed something like this to be released in today's world. This was a time when people who actually knew about music ran record companies.
stevedrums well actually they didn’t have a clue BUT the execs knew it and let the artists do their thing. I think that is the important difference. Then you get the best result. Because of that there was plenty of money to give brilliant musicians a lot of time in the studio.
Basch Barrage --- UA-cam guidelines state you have to actually add something to the original product if you dont want to be copyrighted. Just adding some comments at the end will not normally suffice and it will probably be taken down.
every time that lyric.. I don't wanna die, sometimes wish I'd never been born at all.. I always tear up😢😢😢 that part "I'm just a poor boy nobody loves me..is I think opera
I remember listening to this song in the 80's when I was in school (I loved older rock while most of my friends listened to 80's stuff) and when I played this song they all looked at me like I was nuts. Then Wayne's World came out later and all of a sudden all those same people LOVED this song.
Agree- I’m a teenager in the age of rap of today and I listen to Queen all the way from the first song and until he died... no-one understands real singers or real songs- Freddie wrote this himself and the other band members (Brian, John, And Roger) all wrote songs too but now you barely see a good song writer and singer and people are forgetting real talent and songs.. But Queen Shall never ever go down they will always rise while the Lovers Of Queen are alive- And I’m a teen now - not then- now
The central part that sounds operatic, with "Galileo," "fandango," and all that, represents the time that the murderer is in court facing a trial or a judge or a jury or his accusers or all of that. It's not just craziness.
To quote Bill Hicks, “You see, I think drugs have done some good things for us. I really do. And if you don't believe drugs have done good things for us, do me a favor. Go home tonight. Take all your albums, all your tapes and all your CDs and burn them. 'Cause you know what, the musicians that made all that great music that's enhanced your lives throughout the years were rrrrrrrrrrreal fucking high on drugs."
That is a stupid argument. Also, when Brian and Freddie wrote some of the greatest songs in the world, they were not high. However, when Freddie was fucked on drugs, he made some horrible music (1980s).
+Warhammer Workshop First of all, Bill Hicks was a comedian and this was part of his stand-up routine. Second, it was a generalized statement. He didn't say *all* musicians. Third, where are you getting that it was an argument, to begin with? If you see it as an argument, then your perception of the quote is a bit askew.
Word Unheard, you're 100% CORRECT. BoRap was 3 songs Freddie had written over time and eventually pieced them together. It's unlikely he was High every time he worked on each piece, much less when he put them together. Crazy Little Thing Called Love was written in 10 minutes while he was in the tub... again, I doubt he had lines of blow next to the loofa.... but hey... I could be wrong?! Of course a lot of good music came with drugs, but a lot of great music came without it!
Best reaction ever! One of my favorite songs!! I was singing along the whole time! As always, y'all had me weak... I feel like George wanted to sing along more than he did! 😂
2112 by Rush. It's actually a long song that has different chapters like a book, and each chapter sounds like a different song but it's all part of one epic masterpiece.
The beginning acapellapart is 5 tracts of just Freddie singing. He’s the choir until later when Brian and Roger with his incredibly high falsetto part join.
Freddie was not on drugs when he wrote this. Freddie had all this in his head, he was the only one who knew what the fuck was going on with this massive song. It's called musical genius. Not 'talent' or drugs. Brian May of Queen wrote some of the greatest rock songs in history and he didn't really take drugs. Freddie was the most drugged and wrote some terrible songs.
My mother introduce me into music with The Beatles and Queen. The fact Bohemian Rhapsody is written by Freddie Mercury, One Guy, is what makes this song, or at least I think, amazing. Whether or not he was on drugs, that requires talent to think and be able to write this song. Classic song fellas and this song is something that will take time and patience for people to understand. Which is Sadly something that this generation lacks of. Great Video fellas
Well said sir. We've already gained some added perspective from people in the comments. It makes us appreciate a song that we already hold in high esteem that much more.
It's not about killing someone, its a metaphor of Freddie wanting to "come out", and dealing with the issues associated with having to hide his true self because the time period was not... the most tolerant. So even when asked about the meaning he said it's about relationships.
the song isn't really about killing a man. it's s metaphor for Freddie Mercury coming to terms with his sexuality and facing the fact he (thinks) he's going to hell, and just accepting it. that 2nd upbeat transition is seen as him at the gates of hell. there are so many transitions because he keeps wrestling with himself
Mercury, never got to reveal the real meaning of this song, he took it to his grave. It can be a truth story or a metaphor. I think it's open to interpretation.
I agree, and to take that a step further, some believe metaphorically when he says that he knew he was HIV positive when he wrote this song and that was what was meant by many of the Lyrics such as “put a gun against his head, pulled the trigger now he’s dead” as far as having reckless encounters. And when he sings, “sending shivers down my spine, body aching all the time” refers to him being sick. Goodbye Everybody, It’s time to go...
I agree with you there he had a one-of-a-kind boys to be able to sing like he did Freddie was a great and always will be a great he will rest in peace and he can rest assured that his voice will never die as long as rock people know he's out there rest in peace 🙏 Freddie Mercury
Singing four octaves isn’t that hard. I can sing through four octaves. Singing it all well however, different story. (And no, I definitely can’t sing as well as Freddie could)
You two are just darling! Queen is my favorite band and watching you react to this is pure pleasure! I loved that you noted that they had to have courage to wear those outfits! Couldn't see but I bet it was Freddie in the leotard days and Brian with the wings!
The gong HAS to be played. My sister would turn the track off before it played and I'd make her put the whole song on again because she had spoiled my song. She had a chance to listen to any of the crap she liked after I had heard the WHOLE song, gong included. The joys of sharing a bedroom with your slightly younger but much bigger sister. Not sure how I survived lol
Olney Music Scene that's beautiful
Olney Music Scene That's a lovely story!
Olney Music Scene Great story. Thanks for sharing it.
great story that`s what happened to-- in 2017 i was 11 me and my dad he listens to all this old music but i didn't know i thought he only listened to rap so like a year ago i started listening to heavy metal and all rock first i asked him do you like Metallica and he said yes so i put on Master of puppets and then we listened to basically all rock and heavy metal now i`m 12
Awesome story my friend...that was beautiful...
Beginning is “A cappella” - 2nd is “Ballad” - 3rd is “Operatic” - 4th is “Hard rock and 5th is “Coda” - And there’s the genius. It’s not a song. It’s a “piece”.
It's a song
Lenny Zefflin - Whatever you want it to be, if that makes you happy. In the meantime, it’s a “piece”.
Perfect
Chi Chi.............. VERY Well Said.
It's an experience
If this song comes on in the car and your friends don’t start singing along with you, you need new friends.
True..
Brandon Ross XD that’s so true xD
ABSOLUTELY YES
Brandon Ross i don’t even know how i memorized this song, i feel like i heard it once, fell in love, and it was just all stuck in my head from that one time
Kick them from the car
So surprised y’all didn’t do more Queen after this. So many great songs from these legends! Man, the musicianship and Freddie, never be another Queen..
Queen would not be Queen without Freddie Mercury and I agree with youI will never be another frontman for Queen it would not be Queen
I was hoping they did more too. I’m disappointed. Rest In Peace Freddie, your such a legend.
Yes, Freddie was a true, broad-minded musician. That's for sure.
Bohemiam Rhapsody isn't just a song...... It's an experience.
I sooo agree...
Experienced many a times in high school. I am so glad I grew up during the 70's. You can be a head banger, a soft rock lover, a Ballard love -. And blessed to See Queen 🌹
YESSSSS!!!
ABSOLUTELY!!!
Hell yeah!!
little history for you.
I agree
VAPatsFan
I was a 70’s music child but my brother was nearly 10 years older so I had the awesome experience of 60’s rock n roll as well.
Lucky us. :)
VAPatsFan thts crazy
Taking into consideration the technical limitations of tracking back then, it is nothing short of miraculous.
You copied this entire excerpt from a queen documentary. Little attribution goes a long way.
Freddie wrote this by his damn self too. Puts into perspective these pop stars who have 10 people writing their simplistic 3 minute pop ditties for them.
true.
joe michael vincent, all the hit songs back in freddie's day were made by bands like led zep, deep purple and god damn pink floyd, all of their songs were written by band members, no one else.
also, many of iron maiden's songs were written by their bassist, all of the songs of dire straits were written by the legend, mark knopfler.
your argument is invalid.
Rock bands today dont take the time and most new music is very repetitive.
jan Michael Vincent not for Freddie and the boys

Also fun fact the lead guitar player is also an astrophysicist. I think he may even have a Ph.D
He does indeed have. PhD . Roger Taylor the drummer is a BSc and John Deacon has a Batchelor of Electronic engineering. Freddie had a diploma of art and graphic design .
Yes, Brian May has his PhD and teaches as well.
PhD and a consultant for NASA in addition to being a guitar god!
Brian May has a UA-cam video about the NASA project he participated in that sent a probe to Pluto.
Robert 'Tim' Starliper i have been trying to figure out my favorite guitarists and my top 3 are Brian May, Jimmy Page, and Slash.
While Freddie Mercury is the undeniable star here, you've got to credit Brian May for those insane guitar solos. He is amazing!
Suzanne Milligan he played it beautifully. Freddie wrote every note. :)
Yes, he wrote quite a few of the songs they did. Just thought it was time for Brian May to get some well deserved recognition.
Suzanne Milligan Freddie wrote the guitar solos that may plays during this. May just played the notes he was told to like any guitarist could.
Freddie might be the heart of queen but all of the members are key components.
guitar solo was written by Brian May, Freddie did not wrote a guitar solo in the whole Queen's catalog. He couldn't do it better than Brian.
It's a 7 minute opera. That's the whole point of the song. Main figure explains his crime, the crazy part in the middle is essentially the trial, he rocks out when explaining why he did it, the end is him accepting his fate.
Pretty much but I think the trial is more like angels and demons fighting over his soul instead of a real trial
Langdon, exactly what I thought too
Langdon, spot on!
I feel like this song is about Freddy's coming out and losing his life to AIDS.
It is also the title of the song by ABBA that followed “Bohemian Rhapsody” to the top of the British charts in 1975."
Just found this guys..... hope it helps.
lol, education.
Do the fandango is old cockney rhyme for being executed at the Tyburn gallows.
If your trying to understand the lyrics good luck, they have no meaning as stated by Freddie himself in interviews just that they sounded cool
No One Beautiful!
This song is literally a "Rhapsody".. no chorus and no repeating measures. Each section is a non-repeating section of the song.
If Shakespeare had done Opera, this is what would have transpired.
Romeo and Juliet! Othello!
Yes! It's cryptic with complex language like Shakespeare.
That's the best way I've ever heard anyone describe it
Not just operas, but ROCK operas!
This song is supposed to be the best song to test new headphones and speakers as it has the perfect combination of highs, lows and instrumentals.
very lol
Wulver And you know it by heart so you notice when something is wrong
good heads up, thank you :-)
I heard that People of the Sun by RATM is good for this, too. Especially the bass.
The reason for that is this small part of the song took over 3 months to jut record and mix! lol
This song is a masterpiece
Yes, a true masterpiece. I believe that 100 years from now, the world symphonic orchestras will still have Bach, Mozart and so on in their repertoire, together with at least two pieces of music from the 20th century; Bohemian Rhapsody and Stairway to Heaven.
This song is actually a combination of 3 or 4 unfinished songs combined into ons of the greatest songs of all time.
On the downside; it's had zo much airtime, I've just about had enough of it.
What about Sheer Heart Attack, I'm in Love With My Car, Las Palabras de Amor?

This is the best song ever made. After this is Hey Jude by the Beatles.
In my personal view Freddy Mercury has the best voice in Rock History...Rest In Paradise.
John Bonham best drummer, again, in my opinion, just ahead of Neil Peart
As for bassist, now this is more difficult, this is my personal favourite instrument, often more subtle and requires listening to a song more and with a high quality sound system to really appreciate and I think I have Fleetwood Mac’s The Chain to thank for that, lol.
as Back to the Future is my all time favourite film, I have to throw Flea into the mix, not just because he is in BTTF but because he is definitely up there as one of my favourites and I love a good funky bass but if I had to give an honest opinion on the best, it would probably be Geddy Lee, top 5 in no particular order, Geddy Lee, Flea, John Entwistle, John Paul Jones and Cliff Burton, some might say Paul McCartney but to them I would ask, which one?? Pre 1967 Paul (the real Paul) or the Paul from Sergeant Pepper to present day, just thought I would chuck that little curveball in the mix (if your confused, enjoy researching it and having your mind blown like I had mine blown)
exposed love oh dear god no! Axl is a few shades above mediocre.

sekseverler derneği they’ve literally done scientific studies on Freddie’s voice, he does have a 4 octave range, not including his falsetto.

And it's direct descendant is Meatloaf's "Bat Out of Hell" album!
That what I told them it's rock opera I grew up in the 70s
Rush's 2112 is another example of a '70's rock opera. Complete with an overture!

I agree!
Your reaction to this video is hilarious ! Makes me laugh out loud even when I feel like crap. Keep trucking gentlemen !
These two love music. You can tell. Every song is broken down so craftily, and doing Bohemian Rhapsody is the pinnacle of their craftiness.
Yes I agree 💯
Flip Flop Got any credible sources to account for that? Because it sounds like a big heavy sack of bull feces.
Flip Flop Hahaha I tend to do that too. Cheers!
i agree but actually this song wasn't an immediate hit- it was later during a movie, and around that time Freddie died
Freddie wasn’t on drugs he just has the best voice in rock EVER!!
Anna Jackson yeah, Queen didn't use drugs at all, maybe drunk sometimes, as they were actually VERY serious and scrupulous when it came to work. Amazing, but true! They were just geniuses, that's it!

Why have the German's always had this infatuation with David Hasselhoff? I've always wanted to ask a German this question.
Hahahaha it def has to do with Knight Rider and than Baywatch lol on top of that his music was just so popular here in early 90s, he was my hero. And don't forget that he sang on the wall in the night of German reunion hahahaha to be honest: I HAVE NO CLUE

Just FYI, the lead guitarist, Brian May, has a Doctorate in astronomy.... if I remember correctly. The dude is a legit genius.

You cant be that wild if you married a pastor, honestly...
You don't have to live with me!
Oh, that's funny!!!
I used to that to my kids. Ride with the top down, fast as I could and rockin out with. Both of them screaming in the back seat!
I was chaperone on a school bus full of band kids and they were trying to sing this. I became the COOL MOM 😎on the trip because I could sing all of the lyrics correctly and help them sing it in its entirety! Rock on, y’all!
Stay down Cool Mom! Rock on!

I'm surprised that they know this song
This is one of the better interpretations I have heard. It definitely goes through various phases of this life story they are experiencing.
That's a good take on it! ✌️

Somebody to love is probably one of the most coolest Queen songs! I really would love a reaction video to this, please!
Isn't that Jefferson airplane?
Freddie is amazing. Period. But can we also talk about how Brian May killed it with that guitar solo? I feel like he doesn’t get enough credit for how brilliant he is.
FYI, the lead guitarist, Brian May has a Phd in Astro Physics and teaches at a university in the UK.
He also built his own guitars
@@toothlesstalk3447 Yes that is true. As I understand, the "Red Special" was crafted from the mantle piece over the fireplace in his home.
The guitarist for Queen, Brian May, works for NASA. He holds PhDs in Physics and Astronomy. He also builds his own guitars.
Turtle Insurrection his guitar sound is unique. I can tell it is a Brian may solo without knowing that is a Queen song.
He's also best friends with Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath.
doug marcus I believe that's partially cause he and his father built the guitar he plays
Their Bassist John Deacon actually built their amps for the longest time.

What would you consider a true classic? Or what song do you rate as being among the best in rock history?

Paul Rodgers from the original Bad Company lineup is BADASS and actually has sang for queen in more recent years.
George Michael came close to range, power, and versatility... he even left David Bowie a bit silent when he sang with Queen in a rehearsal. George Michael was definitely overlooked for his immeasurable talent because of the scandals.
Marc Martel, who is a Freddie impersonator, among other singing abilities, is wonderful!
Your post got me researching and I found this article:
How many singers have or have had a five (5) octave or greater voice range?
www.quora.com/How-many-singers-have-or-have-had-a-five-5-octave-or-greater-voice-range
TLDR:
Freddie Mercury (Queen) - near 5 octave range.
Arguably the greatest song ever made.

The part where they are singing "let him go" " no we will not let him go" is good and evil fighting for his soul.
Actually, no. At the start, he commits a murder. He decides to run (goodbye, everybody...) he gets caught. The part you mentioned is the trial. He is found guilty. He tries the o escape (Just she gotta get right outta here). He fails and resigns himself to his fate.

Yes, when I first discovered this channel, that was the first song I thought of that they should listen to.

You're both diggin' on some classically trained orchestral and operatic influences on these geniuses. To me this is the perfect rock song. Check out this whole record, by Queen "A Night at the Opera". We played that vinyl thin in high school back in the day.
Freddie is by far the greatest frontman to ever live.
The definition of a rhapsody is that it has multiple parts and meanings
Kirby Caillet try listening this with stereo sound headphones/earphones from like Spotify so you can hear it go from one ear to the other to get the best experience
Loved that you guys headbanged at the appropriate point in the song!
It's impossible NOT TO! 😂😂😂
McCartney did "Band on the run" with the group "Wings" it also had many "transitions",gear changes/chapters,whatever you like to call them and was a massive hit record too.
aceconcept I was thinking the same. Very underrated song. The Wings song “Admiral Halsey/Uncle Albert” has a few transitions like that, too.
@@melissawilson7268 As well as Venus & Mars/Rock Show, my favorite Paul + Wings song.
*False.* Wayne's World didn't make Bohemian Rhapsody iconic. Bohemian Rhapsody made Wayne's World iconic! The only other song that even approaches Bohemian Rhapsody in terms of dimensions is "Stairway to Heaven"
I had heard after Wayne's world it did top the charts again
Britton Thompson Bohemian Rhapsody didn't place high in the charts until they jammed to it in Wayne's World
No Stairway? Denied.
Both songs were in Wayne's World BECAUSE they were iconic
Britton Thompson Waynes world made it what it was
It's no good trying to analyse the lyrics as Freddie never spoke about.
And Disney wasn't Disney back then. There thinking of like 90s Disney which probably did use versions of this song.
You need to research the parts of classical Disney, you'll understand that this was classical Disney
I thought they originally barely let Queen play this song and got denied by a lot of companies and others in the business?
tommy Dowd of Atlantic was a genius and guided his artists but let them do their thing also.
@@RogornDal I think it was said to them that this song is way too long for radio stations, so they would have problems beeing played
@@skarbuskreska oh ok, Thank you for the clarification.
When people pause Queen...
Grrr
Well, that's what they do on this channel. They don't just react to the song, they break it down
@@thalia9789 they should break it down at the end.. how can one person enjoy the song and experience the feels by pausing it frequently lol
Basch Barrage cause if they just play the song throughout it would get copyrighted and there would be no point to reacting to it
Basch Barrage --- UA-cam guidelines state you have to actually add something to the original product if you dont want to be copyrighted. Just adding some comments at the end will not normally suffice and it will probably be taken down.
I actually like that they don't talk over the song.
every time that lyric..
I don't wanna die, sometimes wish I'd never been born at all..
I always tear up😢😢😢
that part "I'm just a poor boy nobody loves me..is I think opera
Yes young people. ....that is what actual talent sounds like. No auto tune here. I know it is scary, but just relax and enjoy the beauty.
But Queen Shall never ever go down they will always rise while the Lovers Of Queen are alive- And I’m a teen now - not then- now
Kansas - Carry on my Wayward Son, or, Dust in the Wind.
and then Icarus 1 & 2
Oh please do Carry on my Wayward Son
And then "MIRACLES OUT OF NOWHERE" off the same album as COWS
supernatural ♥
Omg I absolutely LOVE Wayward Son, SO much
Led Zeppelin - Immigrant Song Please!
YES!!
Bill Fucking Hicks man.... telling it like it is...
Tool - Third Eye has this piece as it's intro...
That is a stupid argument. Also, when Brian and Freddie wrote some of the greatest songs in the world, they were not high. However, when Freddie was fucked on drugs, he made some horrible music (1980s).
+Warhammer Workshop
First of all, Bill Hicks was a comedian and this was part of his stand-up routine.
"Hall and Oats" LOL probably the first time anyone has referenced them with Bohemian Rhapsody. You guys are great!
BEST SONG EVER. PERIOD. its an Opera
OMG i laughed my ass off at "a sphincter says what?". that was perfect! i love you guys #FREETHINKERS
Best reaction ever! One of my favorite songs!! I was singing along the whole time! As always, y'all had me weak... I feel like George wanted to sing along more than he did! 😂
I damn sure did LOL! Thanks for watching Tracy!
2112 by Rush. It's actually a long song that has different chapters like a book, and each chapter sounds like a different song but it's all part of one epic masterpiece.
I think their reaction video to that would be an hour.
I thought I'd hear more comments from you guys about the lead singer voice - it's incredible ! One of the best in Rock and Roll history !
The beginning acapellapart is 5 tracts of just Freddie singing. He’s the choir until later when Brian and Roger with his incredibly high falsetto part join.
Not drugs bros, that's called talent.
....With some drugs...
Freddie Mercury was an amazing showman. Everything he did was calculated to inspire the audience.
Bro, not drugs, but mind-expanding substances. Not simply talent, but talent + those substances.
Warhammer. which are the Terrible songs that Freddie wrote - Pretender or Barcelona ??? Shame on you ...
Giovanni Cardoso exactly my favorite bands. Queen and The Beatles rock!
My only critic is that Ryan needs to learn air guitar and George needs to learn air drums!!
Sometimes music is just so great It lasts forever and this is one of those songs. It's already 48 years old and still going strong
It's not about killing someone, its a metaphor of Freddie wanting to "come out", and dealing with the issues associated with having to hide his true self because the time period was not... the most tolerant. So even when asked about the meaning he said it's about relationships.
That’s beautiful

Not true
Taken from Scaramouche written by Rafael Sabatini.
@@savoir-vivre8123 it's completely true. The members of queen have even said it
the song isn't really about killing a man. it's s metaphor for Freddie Mercury coming to terms with his sexuality and facing the fact he (thinks) he's going to hell, and just accepting it. that 2nd upbeat transition is seen as him at the gates of hell. there are so many transitions because he keeps wrestling with himself
I did not know that. Is that a fact or your opinion?
Mercury, never got to reveal the real meaning of this song, he took it to his grave. It can be a truth story or a metaphor. I think it's open to interpretation.
I agree, and to take that a step further, some believe metaphorically when he says that he knew he was HIV positive when he wrote this song and that was what was meant by many of the Lyrics such as “put a gun against his head, pulled the trigger now he’s dead” as far as having reckless encounters. And when he sings, “sending shivers down my spine, body aching all the time” refers to him being sick. Goodbye Everybody, It’s time to go...
the song was released in 1975, and he wrote the song a bit earlier. he tested negative for hiv in 1986, and he was diagnosed with hiv in 1987.
stop making shit up.
Can't believe u got him with the, "sphincter says what"? 😂
Exactly
connor anthony That was funny as hell
Freddy was amazing in the fact that he could sing in four octaves. Very few people can.
(And no, I definitely can’t sing as well as Freddie could)
There was no "them" harmonizing at the beginning. It was Freddie with layered voice tracks of him singing in different keys. even better.
You two are just darling! Queen is my favorite band and watching you react to this is pure pleasure! I loved that you noted that they had to have courage to wear those outfits! Couldn't see but I bet it was Freddie in the leotard days and Brian with the wings!
No such thing as an unnecessary gong.
True words of wisdom, Daniel!
😄😄
@@hellsbells8689 Lol 😄
I love it!
It was actually famous before Wayne's world. That scene was iconic!
So glad I ran across this channel! I really enjoy both of your inputs. Keep up the awesome work guys!
Fat Bottom Girls from Queen is pretty sweet
Daddy Havoc everyone loves fat bottomed girls lol
Daddy Havoc yes!
no that song sux
Omg yes who doesn’t like a fat bottomed girl
Daddy Havoc it's their best song actually.
One of the best bits of music ever made right here. Freddy mercury is the greatest rockstar of all time. The man just embodies music itself.
Freddie.
