Engine Rear Main Seal Replacement
To do a job like this you first have to remove the transmission. This is a good to know type of video in case you wanted to try this yourself. Thanks for watching!

Enjoyed the video and you really helped up understand what we need with our Yukon. Hell....I had visions of nightmares, but you make it look easy AFTER you drop the transmission. I still gotta take it to a shop, but at least I'll know what they need to do and if the guys starts BS'ing me...I'll know it. Thanks.
I don't think I'll ever be gucci, but thanks to you I think I can manage this. Nice video, thanks
Very strait forward. Very informative. I appreciate the no b.s. approach. Will subscribe!!

No problem. Thanks for watching!
Big tip for srx owners about to do this rear main seal...it's not hard as some may describe and a couple of things that will save time is...first and foremost rule no. 1 I don't care what anybody tells you, if you don't have to remove it...DONT!!!
2. Don't Jack around with the exhaust, find in nice spot that's easy to get to and cut it...when yur done put a temporary clamp on it and take to your local muffler shop and they'll weld the cuts for around 50 bucks...I've lost countless hrs of time dealing with galded, stripped and stubborn bolts and manifolds it's not worth it but again pick a good spot that the muffler guy can have good access to weld. Old man at muffler shop gave me that tip years ago and since then I've never unbolted one he can weld it in 10 mins both cuts under 50 bucks...another good tip for DIYers get a wobble plate for your floor jack and adjust while installing yur trans is so much easier you can basically line the trans perfectly and install with no effort
Great video 👍👌👌...very thorough and easy to follow ...I just got quoted 2007 Escalade ESV Rear Main Seal -$940 parts and labor ...debating 🤔
Just paid 400$
Thorough. I appreciate what you doin.
+JMac80one Right on 🤜🤛
The thing that's going to make your channel explode is the fact that you keep it real! People love it when we show them the mistakes we make because it shows we are human. Also, you are FUNNY AS HECK!!!!
Not sure if you know her channel, I forgot her name, but the black lady that does the cooking, and was on Steve Harvey, you remind me so much of her. I know I have suggested something in the past, but I'll admit when I'm WRONG, and this is one of those times when I WAS WRONG.
The cursing you do is your style, and you are keeping it truthful with us, and IT'S FUNNY! you are definitely on your way to being one of the top channels!
+Astral Auto Repairs I think the lady you're referring to is Auntie Fee.....god bless her soul 😑. She passed away in March. Such a sweetheart!
Yea my friends compare me to her. She's way funnier than me lol
I DID NOT HEAR THAT, so sorry, she was such a funny lady, wow, thanks for letting me know. You do have those same traits as she does and that's going to take you far, being different from the rest!
Where I’m from a flywheel has teeth for a starter. A flex plate does nothing but hold turn the torque converter. Old Chryslers had flex plates because the torque converter had teeth for the starter.
Thanks for your content
Thanks for video i got. a 02' starting to get bad leaking ,im no mechanic but i see what has to be done and why it cost so much .
Nice work ethic
Hey @leekautorepair I got a question for you my friend I have a 2004 4.3 Silverado v6 & wanted to ask if you think my rear main seal might be leaking, in getting a leak around where the bell housing is exactly around where the transmission bolts on. Please let me know if you believe it can be that thanks man! Loved the video btw keep it up ! Subscribed
You need to get the round installation tool so you dont have to take the plate off. Pop out the seal, pop a new one in. The time you save you can pop a new front and rear seal in the transmission and still be faster.
Don Rutter what's the name of the tool and where can I find it bro
Good mechanic
If ima change the rear main gasket is there anything else i should change while im at it
Yo bro need that same work on my 05 ext like ASAP oil flows out driver side rear of engine ...it’s been parked up down yeadon 2 years
"and a gay ass carrying bag" best part
Great Video, What's the cost for a rear main seal job for 2002 Chevy suburban 5.3L Vortec?
Incase anybody else wonders across this expect to pay 700ish
Down here in Texas about 4-5 bills
How would I know if my enegine is locked up on my escalade?
On a sts v8 2005 do u have to remove motor.... Hit up plz ty
i need this guy i have the same leak
Can u do my 05 deville? Great video!
+Dehnia31 Yea sure thing. Send me the car lol
Where is he located at I have a 2008 dts I need done
Liked the video, however, did you put the two oil pan bolts back in?
Lol
I took all the bolts off except maybe 2
I couldnt see, did you put the open cavity inboard? it looked opposite. open cavity always inboard, engine pressure causes it to blow tighter against shaft.
Looked to me like that oil seal went back in the wrong way too.
Looks like y’all both lack experience. Usually when people don’t know much they will have the most insight
@@Leekautorepair Don't take it personally man, we just want an answer to the question.
How much does this cost parts and labor?
Is your transmission the same as a 4 wheel drive or 2 wheel drive or the all wheel drive totally different ?
To be honest.....I wanna say its the same but then I could be wrong. It should be the same tho
That's ur ass. Lol good vids. I like the valve cover one u did the other day on the Kia SUV, I just did one today man what a pain the driver side is. I felt the passenger side was easier with the intake. But keep it up and ur channel will grow
+MattersonLac24 !! Glad u like my vids bro! Thanks for tuning in ✊
Leekautorepair Will be doing one like this tommorow. I was confused on how that seal retaining plate was held on.And was going to tell customer to take it somewhere else.I'm getting paid 275 dollars and it just didn't seem feasible to me.But after watching this video. Looks like the hardest part might be just the rusty exhaust system. Thanks
Love ir video
Thanks bro
Hey can this be done on jack stands? Is this worth trying to do myself? Got an 03 with 265,000
Yes this can be done with a jack and jack stands. Make sure to have a helper for all the heavy lifting
How much would this repair cost?
So how much does that job cost for the Escalade
Bro how much should this cost at the shop? I have this issue now and a shop said 1000 and shit after watchin u I’m wondering why is it that high
Hello I have a 2008 gmc yukon denali how long would it take to do the rear main seal on it?
Depends on where u doing it at. Driveway?
@@Leekautorepair where you located?
I'm close to Philadelphia
@@Leekautorepair dam bro you do read main seal on 2007 Buick lucenrce 4.6 northstsr?
Good Morning.@leekautorepair! . Is your shop located on cheater pike??
Gm. I used to work there
So yo can do this with out an alignment tool ?
Nope, you can only guess at this point. No measurements, no witness marks, just guess as the cover was not pulled into pan to center seal before torquing. Repeat leaker for $700+ more in 18 months.
okay subscribed.. I plan on doing some major maintenance on my 2003 escalade ext with a 6.0 4l65e transmission. I have a couple questions if you don't mind answering. I want to redo my head gaskets, when I do that do I have to redo the front and rear seals? Also do I have to have my heads and my block machined if I never over heated or do I just clean my surfaces?. I'm going to do my trans mission with a complete rebuild but I don't have a shop so I'll be in my driveway doing all this I recon when the winter weather breaks, anyway how hard was it getting to the bolts at the top of the trans mission? I figured if I can get the truck up high enough I should be okay with reaching. Approximately how long did it take you to actually get the transmission down? I have 219000 miles as of now sure to have a couple thousand more by the time I'm ready to take on this task. Thanks for you help if you can...
By the way I've had this truck for 7 years and he never been in the shop and like I said as far as I know it has never over heated nor been in the shop for anything. I have basically done all my repairs and kept up maintenance such as regular oil changes... I'm just concerned about replacing gaskets and seals in the engine possible reseating valves and stuff like that as well as putting in a new tranny. I know my valve cover gaskets are leaking because I can smell the burning oil plus I saw the leakage around the covers when I replaced the plugs and wires..... Again any suggestions and help would be greatly appreciated....
loveto livetruely Take the motor out and do the whole thing. $2500 bucks if you do it yourself with paying for the machine work.
Don Rutter well I'm hoping to avoid removing the block if possible.... Thanks for your input but if I decide to do that does your price quote include pistons and all? Thanks for your input.... I hope to hear from the fella in the video as well....
Use o ring pullers easy $ on that gasket bro
Good video but that seal has to sit flush on the inside you had to tap it till it hit flush with grooves on the inside
Yea sure buddy
Where are you located
PA near Philly
Just buy the whole plate cover do job twice as fast stop been 30$ cheaper
Think it’s possible to do this in a driveway with jack stands? 🙄
DJIP3SCLIPS yeah
that has to be rear wheel drive!!!
shame mechanics are not replacing with a new plate with a new gasket and seal
the plates warp
and the cost for this job to customer and the cheap cost of a plate
you go the extra mile except you didn’t replace the plate
poor customer will be leaking again in the near future
Sounds like u know it all but came to my vid for information. Sounds like you're the incompetent one. Any idiot knows what a warped surface looks like so I guess at this point u wanna feel special
oh and by look of your repair garage the mess says it all
Thanks for the video. It was very informative. I have a 1976 Sedan DeVille with the same problem, time to go to work!
@Floyd Waters no
It’s the front covers that warp and need to be replaced
Gucci boo
Easier to screw a small screw into the seal, grab it with pliers and pull it straight out
Defeats the whole purpose when the cover gaskets is supposed to be replaced as well. And it removing the seal with a screwdriver or pick does the same thing
As a mechanic who’s changed hundreds of oil seals- I’m telling you about an easier way. Much easier. Much faster. More profit.
Without any risk of scratching the sealing race also.
Sure thing master tech
gucci huh
Shiiii I took it to a local shop motherfucker tried to charge me 1400 for that same job. Smh
Damn remove a transmission to replace a $20 seal? Better replace the torque converter while you're at it...
For the torque nazis out there. 18ft lb for the 10mm RMS plate to block, 9ft lb for the oil pan to RMS plate.
I haven't found the flex plate to crank, flex plate to torque converter (use blue lock tite on these), starter bolts, or trans bolts.
You should also clean the crank surface where it touches the new seal plus a light coat of oil. Good job though
