When I see them on the railroad, usually they are wrapped in plastic, so I would suggest using some white bricks and put stickers for whatever lumber company you want on them for a more realistic look.
No way! I see these all the time on the tracks and wondered if anyone had built any yet. The yellow is perfect. Thanks for putting this design out there 👍
I've seen new railroad crossties loaded on older center beam cars before, a load of old 4.5v sleepers could make for a unique load for another one of your center beams. I've also seen them loaded with pipe before, although that's not as common as lumber.
Another thing you could try with the loads, since in real life a lot of them are wrapped, would be white pieces with some blue or green plates in the center to represent the wording or logos on the wrapping. Or custom decals if you preferred that
Centerbeam is the correct industry name for them. They primarily haul lumber goods but every so often you can spot them haul rail ties for the railroads.
Nice streamlined design, one of the few styles of freight cars I haven't attempted yet. thanks for the link to instructions, I think I can build ones in dark grey and yellow with bricks on hand. Love designs that don't require a train baseplate (especially if you want the car all one color). Gotta give a shout out to my local used brick store, Brick Heads. They are always running specials and sales when they have a huge overstock of loose brick inventory. They do have an area of parts separated by color and type but also a large table to pick through. The last time I went it was half price. To fill a 2 gallon zipper bag was $30. There were plenty of interesting greebling and tile pieces in there, some incomplete sets still pieced together and even some printed and stickered parts. Very time consuming to pick through the bricks but it's a bargain to stock up on just the pieces you specifically want.
@@BatteryPoweredBricks I'll have to see if anything else has opened up nearby. I'm on the east coast with 3 LEGO stores in different directions but all are an hour to 2 hour drive so i only hit up pick a brick a few times each year. Suggestion for alternate freight - I've seen these cars used to carry flat packs of roof shingles, a google image search of "i-beam train freight car roof shingles" will bring up some reference images of real and toy train images... some of them have a repeating pattern of the labels on each package that looks kind of interesting... I think I might use the printed envelope tiles to loosely mimic the packaging of the RailKing 2019 Center I-Beam Flat Car
I would try the wood with Plate stacks, the small undercut should look pretty decent. You can do a 2x6, then a 1x6 plate and 1x6 tile, then a 2x4 Tile and 2x2 Plate, then 1x6 Tile and 1x6 Plate. Keep repeating till its tall enough and cap with a 2x6 Plate.Looks okay in Studio (Threw a couple other version in the Trains section of discord)
Centerbeam cars don’t have a dip in the middle also, real life ones are either 72’ or 73’ long so I would make the Lego ones a bit longer. If your really into building Lego prototype inspired models, then if your able to I would recome buying models of the cars so that your not just relying on photos but can have a physical reference to aid in the building process
I've never really been concerned with my Lego trains being very realistic. It's fun to learn a bit about the real thing but I don't make it a point to model them too accurately, especially with 6 wide trains

Well like I said the wagons were heavily influenced by the designs I saw online. I was very happy with the lumber stack I came up with though

Both great ideas 👍
Using the support beam parts is a great solution, its simple and looks great.

That's awesome! Our Bricks and Minifigs just opened a few months ago and it has really helped with acquiring parts

if you remove the center beam, you could use it for larger loads like steel and pipes, as well as keeping the center in and loading in steel and pipes
Very cool addition to the layout
dang, that model looks good. I'll have to add one to my train

Are you going to do a christmas tnain like csx?
I have so many projects in the works I could never commit to doing seasonal things and releasing them on time 😬
"not a pessimist, I'm an optometrist" Either that's a long running in joke, or . . .
Have I used it before? 😅 It's from a TV show

You have quite an collection by now 😅
funny i just made my own a few months ago, very similar in designee
Hoe do you clean Lego 12 volt track and awesome cars and locomotive
Thanks! Look up Reker1Million's videos about 12v train stuff. When I got a blue era 12v set I talk a bit about cleaning tracks but Reker is the expert
Thanks
