SMITE is similar to DoTA gameplay but instead of being above the action you are IN the action. Close third-person camera instead of RTS view. Move with WASD instead of clicking on a map. Playing in Arena with an Ares is fun with my group. Our composition usually consists of Scylla, Thanatos, Zues, and Thor, Who's ults all work very well with Ares' ult.

This kit is amazing for prometheus. His 1- a refrence to prometheus being chained. 2- prometheus is a helper "god" (titan). 3- theft of fire. And his ult like his 1. That's a perfect fit for prometheus! Make a new warrior ares instead!
omer shaik Sorry for being late, but have you noticed that Prometheus might be the Fire Giant? I mean, he's chained to the ground, he mainly uses FIRE as his attacks.

Why is he a guardian? Surely he should be a warrior as the God of war?
God of War, when have you ever heard of someone winning a war by them selves? It makes perfect sense for Ares to be a guardian/support that benefits from aura items to buff his allies.

The only big threat I'd say if the enemy goes bead to counter your ultimate, to counter that I get CD boots and plate of valor, decent amount of CD and mana. Ares ALWAYS needs his abilities up no matter what, buying Cooldown isn't such a bad idea

_Each completed aura item that Ares owns grants him 30 additional Magical Power. Ares and all Allies within 35 units him regenerate 5% of their maximum health and mana over the next 10 seconds if they kill an enemy god. If Ares or an allied god within 35 units of Ares dies, they drop a 20 unit field of hastening energy that increases allied players movement speed by 20% and physical/magical protections by 10% for 10 seconds. Lasts 10 seconds._
Ares is also the God of Masculinity, loyalty and defense of the Polis along with his Sister Athena who likewise was also a Goddess of War who call on the Furies. Even One of her titles is "Terrible"
The Gods have powers over more than one Sphere of life and death. Though this is game and of course they need to streamline things.

Really, a guardian? From a lore prespective, it just doesn't make sense! Ares is the god of war without thinking, unlike athena who relies on defense and wisdom. He charges at his enemies, dealing destructive damage and doesn't waste time defending himself (eventually he loses. ALL THE TIME). He should be a warrior. Also his appearance is weird. Get him in a greek armor! What is this weird armor? Make a remake please!

Yes, but in the myths, Ares almost always dealt a huge blow to the enemy before he went down. But then there is Mars, who is basically a much more honourable, smarter, better version of Ares. Mars was on the same level as Athena when it comes to being loved by the people. Funny thing is that Mars was the called the most "Roman" of the gods yet, even as a god of war, was better morally than most of the Romans, as Mars is also the god of military might used for a just cause. The Romans did not use their military might for a just cause.

Usually, but they are likely giving an earlier preview due to it being 4 weeks since the last god release. There was a skill preview yesterday, there will be a joust match today and an internal 5 vs 5 tomorrow. I guess he comes out the day after the 5 vs 5 (thursday).
The thing is Kratos is a Santa Monica Studio's not a Olympia's God so maybe you guys have to deal with them about copyright first =)

The Romans loved Ares, they just called him Mars. Over the years Roman and Greek mythology was somewhat merged and the lines blurred. Many of the myth of Ares were re-interpreted by Roman writers under the name Mars, and Greek writers re-wrote myths of Mars under the name Ares. While it is possible to distinguish the two to some extent. The Greeks and the Romans often saw Ares and Mars as one in the same.

I must say that Hi Rez has really well with Ares. I love how they implemented the lore and gave him some very interesting strategy's. :D
I still remember Ares in Hercules TV series. He was like immortal but can only live in somewhere with war. If there is no war, he will disappear. And will appear again If war start. And the bigger the war is the stronger he become.
So If Hirez use that Ares, his passive would be like: Ares gain 10 magical power, Physic and magic protection for each god in combat within 50 Radius.
So pretty much the bigger the team fight, the stronger he become. With 10 gods = 100 Magic power, 100 Magic protection and 100 physic protection.

That's just the idea, Just need to tweak the numbers until you think it's balance. I don't know about the Protection part but 100 Magic power is fine because Ares's passive right now give him 90 Magic power all the times with 3 aura items.
+Hung Nguyen Ares's is pretty powerful because of his 1 if u hit all shackles and burn on mage u are guaranteed a kill and his ultimate is the best set up for any multi kill.. unless beads or cc immunity.
+Hung Nguyen so giving him 100 power is pretty over the top since he's a tank but does insane damage with his 1 - 3 combo
Zuleika Sanchez Remember with the passive I talked about, he only +100 power in a team fight have 10 people. The passive he have right now make him +90 all the times if he build 3 aura items. So +100 power is not the problem. If you want to nerf something then focus on the protection part. The only problem on power part is we need some way to balance his early game.

To be honest.
Winning a war isn't about killing everyone with your sword. It's about having the best tactics compared to the other guy.
"Run up and hit him with my sword" Is by far the best tactic to get yourself easily killed in war. I like that he's more a ganking supporty kinda guy, it means he's a tactical fighter, the kind who win wars.
She narrate these so well. Give this woman a raise, & more opportunity.

could grab voidblade and witchstone and possibly a soul eater to give his right click some extra oomf, all the while getting spell power. really strong passive. seems that they really want tanks to do both physical and magic damage, such as ymir's frostbite and sobeks nile armor, and now are's who doesnt loose out on spell power when grabbing the aformentioned items.

Would love to see Kratos in this game even tough he isn't a real god and there are copyright issues involved.
Thor is a support character too. They don't need to be labled support in order to be a good support.
So was Guan Yu. He was a general in the war or something to that effect, a man who transcended into godhood. I'm sure Achilles could do the same :)

I'm actually still waiting for the Japanese Pantheon. Kind of sad we haven't seen any yet.There's a lot of culture and opportunity for HiRes to take advantage of.
He still uses melee attacks, and the abilities he seemed to have in Greek mythology did point more towards him being a magical character.
I don't know, maybe I just like them doing something different this time around. Gods are almost always stereotyped in games nowadays...

Well if you want to look at it that way. His ult is stolen from Flux's. His 2 kind of taken from plague riders W, and his 3 kind of taken from Balphagore's. Its impossible to find something that hasn't been done in the MOBA genre already.
I like how she says tier 2 boots and 3 mana pots is a great way to start. Yet she also says he works best in a duo lane and gets the mana buff and he has a hand of the gods item. GL buying tier 2 boots and 3 pots after that..
Does anyone else think it would be awesome if they made a skin for Ares that was designed like how Ares looked in the God of War games?

yes.... support characters are all tanky. all his skills are support skills like the chain to slow down enemies so teamates can connect or his ulti so you can control where you want them to be for optimal team fights. he is a magic tank with support skills.
I think it would be cool if they added Aphrodite, she could be sort of like a support healer like Sona or something of the sort.

Although it would be cool to have ares as a physical warrior, I'm in love with his kit too much to let it go. They can't have 3 damaging slows, a percentage based knockback immune damaging ability, with an aoe cluster fuck of a stun, on a bruiser. It would be too op.
Ok I was slightly of but here, Ares is the God of War for the Greeks where Mars is the same except for the Romans. The difference here is that Mars was more revered by the Romans, and Ares was more hated. Ares was the God of War, Murder, and Bloodshed. Mars was the God of War, Agriculture, and (I think) food. What I am trying to get at was that Mars is seen as a God of Life, while Ares is seen as a god of death. The Roman soldiers prayed to Mars to support them in battle and what not.

You obviously don't know how to play him if you think that.
Its simple, you place the ice wall in the middle of the opposing team preferably with one side attached to the side of a line. Most people people will run straight into the wall or attempt to run around, others will waste their escape abilities to get past the wall now you just have to walk in there and freeze those left standing. Past level 15 this can easily be done while their team is standing under a tower.
i can tell when a new god is going to be strong or not.. and this one has a very very good potential, i mean imagine in a team fight where he ult and then uses his flame ability on the whole enemey team, that alone would be devastating.

I'm a bit let down that they released yet another MAGICAL DAMAGE TANK... I'd think Sobek, Hades, Ymir and Guan Yu are enough of tanks with magical damage, while Vamana is the only physical dmg tank.
It would have been a great oportunity to do that on ares too since he s the God of War...
I agree with your second point because the Greek gods aren't real, but Kratos was the personification of strength and was one of Zeus's sky tides.

Achilles is well known, but he's a demi-god, not an actual god. His mother dipped him in the river Styx when he was an infant, making him invulnerable except on his heel, where his mother held him.
Ares is just as well-known as Achilles; he's one of the major gods.
I know everyones upset about what time of god he is, but either way e's freaking awesome, now if they add Loki they'll have all the best gods :D

Ares does not lose all the time, he has a potential to do a really high amount of damage, but its a slow damage. Thats why he is a tank.
