Thank you. It's so annoying when they think he's just some game character. I do admit that when I was a kid I just thought he was a character from Saiyuki until I actually learned it was based off mythology.
He was a demi-god created as a protagonist in the novel "Journey to the West" in the Ming Dynasty (16th century).
Not quite a "real god" like Chang'e or Nu Wa (meaning he wasn't worshiped as one, as far as I know), but I really hate all the "omgz but LoL had him firstz!!!?!?!!" comments as well.

You're right about that and I'm really happy because while I was growing up there was no English version of him until two games including this

He's one of the strongest beings in Chinese mythology but his abilities in the game really needs a huge buff :/

This guy is such an underated god, he is insanely good as poking, hits like a truck if you build & play him right, has so many stuns / knock ups & his escape is absolutely mental, have the dark lord skin on him and hes my favourite god by far, can be used in all game modes effectively!

Let's clear shit up.
First: SMITE uses actual gods. Sun Wukong was already a god and that means the tale is ancient, meaning NO ONE could NOT have stolen from the mythology.
Second: The less recent mention of Sun Wukong into media comes from Dragon Ball Z, in fact, as you may notice, Son Goku is basically a japanese translation for Sun Wukong. Yep, Goku is actually Wukong in Akira Toriyama's view.
Third: LoL did their own version of Sun Wukong, and I think it's pretty cool and fitting for their lore. It's a honorable mention to the mythology.
Last: There is an item called Monkey King Bar in DotA 2. Do I need to say anymore?

Come on, educating yourself a little bit while playing Moba games won't hurt your brain. Famous heroic icons will appear anywhere. Some LoL fanboys really are dumb for not knowing this.

The nickname of Wukong should not be the monkey king, that sounds weak, it should be The Great Sage equal of Heaven. That’s Wukong’s favorite nickname of himself.
Keep in mind Sun Wukong was most known for his ability to deploy clones of himself using hairs from his body and for his quarterstaff that could span as far as he would wish it. This would make sense as to why both the League and Smite versions drew inspiration from the actual lore and used these in a kit. Though the spin shares similarities, none of his other abilities do. Even the decoy has a vast difference between games.
To all the LoL players ( I am one of them): this is not a copy of Wukong. This games is based on Gods and Sun Wukong is one of them. And, let's be real, let's admit that LoL wants to copy Ao Shin. So... stop saying that this has been stolen.

Sun Wukong needs to be more stronger and should be able to do a good amount of damage, more than his current damage, since practically all of Smite's Gods and Goddesses, his tiger form is good but his other abilities need a buff
I am a fan of both LoL and Smite and any comments saying "Smite is a copy of LoL" is just stupid, although his model remake takes a bit of inspiration from LoL. His abilities are very alike due to their common mythological background. Simple as that
You are absolutely right, and second, I really like the god Sun Wukong and Smite didn't copy from LoL, they copied from a lot of movies, arts and a lot of things based on the real god, it's a game of gods, and people just can't shut their mouth and enjoy the video.
This is probably my favorite lore video (such nice music and art) and i havent even played Sun Wukong yet :3
I love this game because of how much care and effort is put into it. Even though league is 10x more popular, smite somehow manages to have more updates, constantly making everything better looking.
i love how Sun Wukong in the game isn't really all that impressive, yet in the book, if he could actually use those powers against the other gods, he'd probably destroy all of them. His staff was so feared that if he hit you once with it, you'd die.

Hunter24698 then maybe sunwukong should have slight amount of more damage in this game and also another strong ability he has in the stories: to sail on a cloud to another place. In the game he could do that but with shorter but still kind of long distance.

I believe that this wukong and the LoL wukong are quite similiar but considering they are both based on this mythology (league one more loosely) then they are bound to be quite similiar
If any of you didn't know many famous shows is based on Sun Wukong and his Journey to the West, such as Goku. No one is copying any other game what so ever. Sun Wukong is just a huge inspiration to games/shows. Funny thing is that Sun Wukong is suppose to be extremely powerful, he's known to be the strongest demon across the universe, the only person who has ever matched/beat with him was ErLang Shen and Buddah. I wish he was a little more buffed, but ohh well.
The Monkey king in this game should have even more physical damage, since he is way more OP in the stories
You want a Sun Wukong like in mythology?
Passive: Constantly cause fear in 50 radius to Ao Koang and Zhong Kui making them run away from him.
His 1: Extend his staff endlessly through the map and damage everything (LIke Janus) but also break all the wall and create new path.
His 2: Just put his ultimate here
His 3: Transform ino anything including Allies, Enemy with any god form(can't use the form's abilities though) And will turn back to real form if got hit.
His Ultimate: Summon like 1000 little monkeys to fight enemies.
And his fire eyes

Wukong was mad that his heavenly position was just a stable boy but the boon that come with the title was that EVERY single horses in the universe must obey him, even the son of the Dragon King (probably not Ao Kuang but another) who had to transformed into a horse as a penance can't even resisted him when in his horse form.

the free rotation is 1 week, the 5 starter gods change whenever they feel it's needed, but you will not gain or loose gods for a preexisting account.

Journey to the west is a great book
If you like Sun Wukong's lore i recommend watching the Anime "Saiyuki", its an offshoot of Journey to the West with all the Characters having the Japanese names so Wukong is known as Son Goku. Its very entertaining so far.
good LORD does Sun Wukong need to be nerfed! I mean, seriously, those 3 transformations, that all around knock up and his ult that heals him makes it freaking IMPOSSIBLE to kill him most of the time.
like, maybe I'd be fine with it if all of his abilities had a shorter time frame. like, the 72 transformations and the ult can only go for 4 seconds or something. then MAYBE he could be considered fair in some way.

I'm not saying it will happen, but it will be entertaining to see HiRez make a Goku stylized skin for Wukong as a nod to his more famous Japanese take on the character.
They have a Shaolin Monk-ey skin for Hun Batz (who's the original character model for Sun Wukong) that's pretty close.

Still though, perhaps they should make another wink and nod to DBZ since it's a Son Wukong is a new model and not Hun Batz anymore? I will say though, he is pretty badass as a Sith lord.
FUN FACT : The Monkey King and Shri Hanuma ji is the same God. Reason when Chinese monk used to visited in india they learnt about Shri Hanuma ji. Then they took its tales to china and spread it.
In My childhood, when i first time, i saw Monkey king then i thought our Shri Hanuma ji after doing Ramayana. He went for vacation to China. Then he started as another journey as Monkey king.
His stick is wrongly designed
The artists have taken many creative liberties when designing the game. Most gods have inaccuracies here and there. It's all attuned to modern timing and tastes and not meant to be completely accurate.

I think he's more of a bruiser. He has great escape and his passive gives him good survival on top of his escape. He can initiate fights with CC like 72 transformation, hit enemy a bit, knock them up with master's will and run off or just kill the enemies.

Yes, Satan isn't a god in the sense of Christian mythology but is worshiped as one in Satanism. Also technically this is the 'battleground of the gods', anything that can stand up to a god would be able to fight here.

Sun Wukong is actually still playable after the Janus patch. You just have to choose whether you want to be a low damage tank or a high damage bruiser. There's no longer the option of being tanky AND hitting like a freight train.

well Ra has 3 forms depending on the time of day one is Amun-Ra and one( I can't remember the name at this moment) is a scarab. I think maybe the other one might be a bird-of-pray but I can't remember. as for the eye I have seen it a ton of places and is called the eye of Horus.
