It truly shocked me to hear I’m not the only one who will deliberately die to a boss if I’m not happy with how I’m defeating it. It’s not enough to simply kill a boss, for me to be happy I have to be able to beat the boss without getting my ass beat in the process. And even if it takes more time, you gain a lot of skill which will transfer over to the next boss.

@@lazygenie5616 From the responses I've gotten it seems like we're the weird ones haha. I knew it probably wasn't common but literally no one else I've seen comment on that has shared my view. Not only does what you learn transfer over to the next boss or the next playthrough, it also just feels good to turn the tables and absolutely demolish the boss.

LotF is a game I loooove. It is my first soul's like so I'm completely new to this style. For those who say the bosses are "too easy", try to play without any health, because a lot of time I see ppl saying "ez ... kill" with a health bar that could almost reach the end of the screen. Not having a lot of room for mistakes makes the game much harder.
One of the most enraging experiences I had in this game was ambushes. The penitent head hiding behind a corner and just insta smash ur head down and one shot (cuz I have no vitality) gives me the feeling of "Oh, you haven't visited this place yet? Well, better luck next tiiime". But that's really the only thing that annoyed me, and now that I know the map it just doesn't bother me anymore.
Thank you for bringing love to this game

It really shocked me to see so many negative review videos. I have been at it for over 150 hours and can’t seem to stop. I went through it solo and got all the static loot I could find and now I’m running it co-op with my wife and it’s fantastic not having to leave her world. Can even use all her vendors and upgrade my gear/level up! Like you I adapted to the movement and combat but honestly it really didn’t take me long. Such a quality game and I believe as more people take the plunge, it’ll rise to the top and be widely recognized as a masterpiece.

I feel like the people who are head over heels for this game just don’t fully grasp what the criticism of the game are. Either because those were never issues for them in past Souls games or because they never noticed them. For full transparency I’m close to the end of the game but on PS5 I had 2 back to back crashes which just ruined the mood. Performance is fucking abysmal. While the devs are doing a good job rolling back some of the less balanced parts of the games the fact that they even had to makes you wonder if anyone play tested this before it came out.

Frankly I think the bosses are very well designed for the most part, sure they’re a little on the easier side, but I think that’s just coming off of Elden Ring, where the boss difficulty is way higher than previous games, and not always for the right reasons. The bosses are easy because they move in a way that makes sense and they actually have gaps in their attacks where you can get hits in.

    • @XicorVT

yeah they are easy once you learn that there openings and not some Crazy delays like Lies Of P and Dark Souls series and learning this weaknesses is the key to easy also there are lamps mechanics that can be used on some bosses to make the easier

I can completely sympathize with people's first impressions of this game. It's rough, and needed some more time in the oven; no doubt, I think that much is a certainty even the devs would admit to.
But; in spite of all that, I am having a fun time with the game. I think; with Nioh 2, Salt and Sanctuary, and Code Vein, this is up there with souslikes I dig about as much as Fromsoft's output. But there's just something fun about the levels, combat, build making, and (when it works) the co-op is scratching that itch I had. While Lies of P is the more polished game; with a much smaller scope that intends to ape Bloodborne, I find Lords of the Fallen's dual-world take on an interconnected world more interesting.
In a few months; I feel like we're going to see an uptick of "LotF is good now" kind of content, and I won't blame creators if they do that for clicks. The devs are workin' damn hard to get this game to be the best it can be, and I hope they are all given a nice long vacation to relax afterwords lol

I'm loving it. Very rarely do I engage with new game+ in soulslikes. Ends up feeling like you find your build and then you stop getting stronger by new game+. LoF has an actual endgame feel. On ng+ 3 right now on my main character and after each playthrough I come out feeling stronger - some runes you can only get 1 per playthrough. So you still feel like you're progressing. As someone who has played all 7 of FromSoft's Soulsbornewhatever games, and was excited for Lies of P and Lords of the Fallen, I think they both scratched an itch that has itched for sometime, albeit in different ways. Lies of P got that Bloodborne/Sekiro itch, and LoTF got that Dark Souls itch. It deff has its issues, and I agree there is a FAIR amount of jank in trying to replicate certain souls like mechanics, but it kinda annoys me at this point when reviewers call this game downright bad.
Mobs: I agree with you and every reviewers take on this. It was like DS2 levels of mobs, where you'd already be a bloody corpse and there would still be like 3 enemies you somehow aggroed that come to dance on your grave.
Bosses: I think I see bosses more like you than the general consensus in that I am more concerned with every aspect of a boss, and for the most part, besides the bosses that end up in mobs, I enjoyed them, but as devils advocate, I feel it wouldn't hurt for them to be uptuned a bit to add a bit more difficulty.
Foreward Momentum/Wep Speed: Yeah, this could definitely be tweaked down a little bit, and I'm adding weapon speed bc I've heard youtubers critique this. I personally like the weapon speed, albeit on some it can be pretty fast, but it's indicative of someone with skill in a weapon. Look, when I slam my greatsword, I wanna do it as quickly as Guts, and this game lets me do that; it is Hex's own iteration on the Souls combat system. But, some of the momentum, mainly in traversal, can be tuned down. I don't need to tap into the Speed Force to sprint. I don't need a 10 yard dodge roll when I'm just trying to get to the next platform.
Jumping: Even with the points you made, I still agree rolling is still a but too cumbersome, and can be made easier. but it more so goes back to my last point about foreward momentum.
Mimics: Mimics are frustrating, but (and I say this with the utmost love and care for anyone getting into this genre) you gotta git gud. Just like in the souls games, there is a way to determine what mimics look like, so always make sure you take like less than a second and check your items movement before picking it up.
Vigor animation: I think this is a non issue since the patch for it. They gave it i-frames. I picked up my vigor and that Fire Enchantress boss in Lower Calranth threw a fireball that went right through me lmao
Vestige seed beds: Ngl this infuriated me at the beginning of the game. I was like "why the fuck would you add a seed bed right after a fucking vestige" and vice versa, or "I JUST planted one, wtf", but I believe what kinda helped me cope was someone on reddit basically explaining it's mainly for their whole "no vestige NG+" so there was an abundance of places to plant in necessity. They also patched Molhu's prices, so they only cost like 1,200. It's super easy to stay topped up on them.
Level design: This is my personal gripe. I think they did a lot of good things with a lot of levels. There were plenty of levels where I would find some shortcut or something and be pleasantly surprised. But, man where there some levels where I needed a smoke after. Forsaken Fen felt the same no matter where I turned, and that level is huge, and that's on top of the many mobs I had to contest against. It wasn't until my second playthrough where I was able to map out the blueprints a bit more, and I still ended up quitting and moving on at like 70%.
There are definitely aspects of this game that give it some jank, but I believe this is the best iteration of a game trying to replicate specifically the Dark Souls formula, and it's definitely a fun time. Solid 7. I would liken the jank to what the OG Dark Souls 1 must have felt like. Hexwork is just finding their groove with this game. If they hone in on it the way they have been with how much they've been listening and patching, this could be the start of a really great series.

I will say, in regards to powerstancing, I would have liked a bit more variety. If the heaviest weapon you hold determines your powerstance combo, I would have liked to see some variation dependant on if you're, let's say, holding an axe with a short sword, holding two short swords, or holding a knife with a short sword. I feel like they could have done a bit better with that. but, I do love the movesets. especially that chunky grand sword moveset >:)

There were some definite problems during the first week. For me it was the enemy density in certain areas. I'm on my 2nd playthrough now and it's much more enjoyable due to Hexworks having changed or removed the enemy placement/density along with other improvements.
Asmongold did an entire rant about this game and it literally comes down to him plain out refusing to learn anything, or adapting. He gets eaten by the same mimic twice in the row and admits he doesn't want to do it, etc. Then he Alt+F4s, uninstalls, and calls the game bad. I've watched his latest LotF stream where he quit and it is honestly MIND BOGGLING to see people defend him.
Man was literally using an un-upgraded shitty spear in Fitzroy's Gorge, rushes through the entire zone and cave and then complains there's a lot of enemies... he complains about not knowing what weapon to use, he complains about a lack of bonfires (Vestiges) and then plants a Vestige Seedbed ONLY TO NEVER USE IT. He didn't rest, didn't level up, all because he was afraid of 3 enemies respawning. (3 shitty pilgrim hollows lmao) And later he continues to complain about no bonfires, even after running straight into a room with a bonfire right above him, which he never used, did a complete 180, went back outside into Calrath and pulls half the enemies of the entire city - only to then complain about enemy spam. These are the type of people who call this game bad. They don't learn, they can't adapt, they don't use the Umbral Lamp / Soulflay mechanics, they don't play tactically - it's not only a skill issue, it's also an IQ issue. Every. Single. Review.
Most twitch streamers/youtubers are retarded and the LotF controversies proved this to me. I will die on this hill. This game isn't made by an AAA studio and people somehow expected Elden Ring 2 or something. Maddening.

    I agree with your points.
The problem I feel with the quite polarizing reviews of this game, is that nowadays reviews are so incredibly subjective. It's not hard to look at the definition of what is a review on a dictionary.
I can't believe Lords of the Fallen can be rationally be put just slightly higher than Skull Island Rise of Kong on a review score.
All these big UA-camrs, influencers, game journalists, "soulslike gamers", reddit maniacs, that call out the game as "absolute trash" really suffer of chronic intellectual dishonesty.
People are schizophrenic and have no sense of scale and proportion of objective criticism. Perhaps I dare say even short memory.
Everybody apparently forgot how DS1, DS2 and the most recent Elden Ring launched, the t-pose deaths, the constant crashing and in-game lag, the absolutely broken pvp, reused bosses that become normal enemies, the immensely cheap level design of the last areas of the game with its enemy density and placement, and a gameplay that is 10 years old in its formula.
That sounds good right? sounds like a 10/10 GOTY 2022 masterpiece of a game.
Now let's get LoTF, and let's apply the same criticism. Nah man, game bad, 4/10. "It's bad". "Absolute trash".
This "Souls-like" definition is complete, pure, out of control cancer. It's the death of the videogame, but its strongest point when you've got to sell it.
I don't recall any game advertised as a "God-of-War-like" in early 2000s, or "Last-of-Us-like" in mid 2010s. But there were plenty taking full inspiration and outright stealing out of those games.
Except here now it's a thing with Souls formula, but in all the bad ways. The average gamer/journalist/streamer REFUSES to adapt to any new mentality or approach.
Because if it's a souls-like, it HAS to be EXACTLY like Souls, right? If I can't play it naked, two handing an oversized stick, rolling like a schizo, ignoring everything cause I have to beat this game right now, oh it's definitely a bad souls-like.
People don't know what they want: they scream plagiarism when it's too similar, and scream it's horrible when it's slightly different or trying to have an identity of its own.
There is ZERO respect for the aim and vision of the developers, their scale and scope, and zero intention to find what is objectively good in this game even in its rough state of things.
At the end of the day everyone can have an opinion and make sure it's the loudest and most controversial, so they can bring some spice up on the algorithm and gain that lovely ad revenue.
Small channels and individual people expressing their interpretations and analysis is where it's really at, and where I'm sticking to.

I agree very much that gamers, and the internet in general, can have a very collective short term memory about these types of things.

True! I've noticed this as well. A lot of people want sort of the same thing when they hear ''souls-like'' but I would prefer them to be different and try new things. Otherwise what's the point, you know?
For instance, I saw one reviewer who didn't like how it's more face paced than Dark Souls and claimed it was a bad game largely because of the combat.
It's fair if you prefer DS/ER gameplay but in my mind that's not a good way to rate the quality of the game, he simply prefers slower combat with more commitment in attacks.
I love Elden Ring but I don't want the exact same thing with a reskin, not even Fromsoft does that if you really look at the DS series.

I like LOTF a lot. The main reason is that variety is king and you often do not need to level too much to try a new weapon. I started with a exile stalker dex focused build, dual daggers. I gradual switched through various weapons Resh-Mesah's, Melted Crusader Sword and then focused on adding radiance/inferno once I got Judge Cleric's Corrupted Sword. I enjoy switching back and forth between the various weapons, throwables, and spells that help me beat the mobs, which you need them all. Usually, I ring and a few levels is all one needs to access a new attack or weapon.
I am a good way through new game+ and think that the seedling system makes a lot of sense once you know the world and understand which enemies drop vestige seeds. The system prevents over-leveling that ruins the game because farming is much tougher. The player is also forced to conserve resources and learn how to best approach different levels.

This is really what it comes down to. If you're a souls vet like me and played demon souls and DS1 the days they were released, you'll love this game. If you're first FROM game is Elden Ring, you'll think this game is trash. The souls community has been more of a smaller niche community until Elden Ring. So now, half of the people that claim they love Elden Ring are the same people that play fortnite and call of duty type stuff. So if a souls game isn't comparable to Elden ring, then its automatically trash in their eyes.

To be fair my first real souls experience was also Elden Ring. I mean I did play Dark Souls 1 a few years back but never finished it. Not because it wasn't fun but I simply played other things. But I certainly see what you mean and you're probably right that it's hard to separate from ER for most new players. When I went back and played the DS series after ER I purposely went in with the mindset that this is NOT Elden Ring even though they are similar in many ways. This is a true assessment. This game is so clearly inspired way more by the older Souls games like Demons Souls, Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2. They wanted to go for the slower, heavier feel of combat, and the more puzzle-based bosses that have interesting quirks to their design. Their attacks are also more telegraphed and slower that make them much more fair than Elden Ring. People complained to no end about ER bosses, it’s a shame they already forgot and bash this game for not going the bullshit boss design route. If LOTF is someones first soulslike game, trust me the difficulty is plenty. Of course if you are playing these games for 14 years then it is not much challenge but this idea that the devs need to balance the game around no hit runners and speedrunners and veterans with 10.000 hours is idiotic and a sure way to make the game bullshit, just look at late game ER bosses.
However what carries this game so hard is the world and level design, and the lamp puts it to amazing technical marvel levels. honestly shocking to me that people can say with a straight face that this is a bad game. You must not play a lot of games and must also have some clear bias. If you think just for 5 minutes about this game you realize it is well made. Of course the performance can suck but then Elden Ring should have gotten a 6/10 review as well, that game was unplayable at launch, literal 1 fps fighting the Tree Sentinel in Limgrave so what are you on about? Still to this day PS5 version of ER doesnt even get close to stable 60 FPS and there are bugs that they just dont care to fix. But ofc FromSoft gets a pass bcuz Miyazakis dong has to be sucked at all times its crazy.

I only have a few issues with this game. I’m on series X. Biggest complaint is performance. Constant frame drops to the point where the game is basically frozen temporarily often.
Next is co-op and crossplay. PvP crossplay is super reliable and you invade within seconds. But if you try “accompany lampbearer” I’ll go go hours without linking with anyone and when I did it connects then immediately disconnects. I’ve only had good experience (or I should say any experience because the only way I’ve gotten it to work and stay connected) is by connecting with friends on Xbox directly. Performance in co-op can be pretty abysmal also.

Unlike a lot of people you see complain or compare it to other games, I always take a game for what it is as a individual basis unless it's a sequel. Had some FPS issues which was easily fixed by turning DLSS off and putting things to medium settings, and that's all the problems I had for over 100 hours in the game. Sure it has some bugs and I think to experience this game correctly you need to have the hardware, but come on this game has so much to offer! The world captures the perfect dark fantasy grit, umbral is a lovely mechanic that has room for growth if they do choose to do a DLC, the boss designs are simple S-tier, the tink system has nearly perfected fashion souls, the level design clearly takes inspiration from everything we love about DS1, the spells are unique, combat system is punchy and satisfying.. I could keep going about how much I love about this game. The amount of times I got knocked off the edge really pissed me off. But I had some hope that not all levels would be like this, happily my hopes were correct.
I played with a radiant pietas sword build (wow so original I know), but loved the attack speed, I later combined it with a bloody fury and double wielded them.
1 thing that I still really hate is the targeting, I don't know if it is just me, but it ALWAYS targets stuff I don't want to target. Mostly in umbral when I want to target those floating platforms to move, or doors blocked by umbral entities etc, it mostly just automatically targets a random enemy not even close to the umbral target I want. It killed me multiple times and is 1 of the things that will keep on irritating me if it happens, this is really the only complaint I have.

I feel it's heavily inspired by FS work, mostly DS2 and DS1, but it has a tool for you to overcome every challenge some people call "bullshit" like the mimics, or the ganks. You have kicks, soulflays, especial moves that are pretty much an AOE, giving you an arsenal of tools to plan how you tackle an area, an enemy or a boss. I find this to be fantastic. It depends on what you like. I have found that this game in general seems to be more of a love letter to the design philosophies found in DS1 (and to a lesser extent, Demon's Souls) than any other newer Fromsoft Souls games, and I think a lot of people don't recognise that.
    1) The game cares about exploration more than other Soulslike games (other developers) to a certain degree. For example, people are comparing this game to Lies of P, but LoP basically has no real exploration because it is designed in a more linear fashion. Which is fine, if you prefer that style of game.
    2) Tying into the first, Lords of the Fallen does the whole widely-praised (or so I thought) interconnected level design that DS1 does. People have said ever since DS1 came out that they were immensely impressed by this style of level design, and even From Software themselves have not continued with that style. Unironically the level design in LotF is great, even if people have issues with what they consider tedium or brutality (ala Blighttown of original DS1).
    3) The bosses being easier is also more of the level that a lot of the design philosophy was in Demon's Souls and DS1. People seem to always imagine O&S or Artorias in their mind when they think of DS1 bosses, but the majority are quite easy and very one-shottable. Gaping Dragon, Moonlight Butterfly, Pinwheel, Iron Golem is the standard level of bosses in DS1, there are actually very few ballbusters. The more recent Souls games have tried to step up the level of difficulty to keep up with a rapidly improving playerbase, but this was not the design philosophy of the first few Souls games, where most bosses were intended to be more spectacle than an actual brutal challenge. The levels in DS1 and DeS usually were more dangerous than the bosses. I'm not saying the bosses being like this is *necessarily* a good thing, but I don't think they wouldn't have made the bosses harder if they thought that would be better. Hence, design choice.
    4) I think the combat pace and how deliberate it is mimics more like DeS and DS1 is compared to how much faster the pace of the game is in Bloodborne, DS3 and Lies of P.
I do like Lies of P, I have to admit it is a far more polished game. But the aesthetic (which I think is generally liked, I also like the look of the environments too), feeling of exploration and level design is actually all pretty great in Lords of the Fallen, which I think is important to appreciate, and they are actually something I value highly in Souls games, makes me almost prefer Lords of the Fallen over it. And I think that's one of the reasons for the discrepancies in what people think about the game, because if you can't appreciate the design philosophy and how the game is trying to be a love letter to DS1, you probably won't like it.
A shame about the performance issues for sure, though.

Speaking of which, I love that finally I can wear nothing and the game helps me stay light but hit like a tank with items, I love the variety it possibilities, I love weapon move sets. I love the lamp and the umbral world, I think they are on to something with this dual world setup. I love the runes too, making your scalings even better.
I dont know, I think they nailed it for all the things I liked in a souls game. Finally a game thats not like playing dance dance revolution or guitarhero... I can enter a boss fight raw, and test my way through with different approaches and builds, I think thats the most important.

More like it lacks polish so much. There's so much imbalance here, and things that don't make sense. I sure wasn't expecting Elden Ring or anything Souls, but when you're a game that literally adopts ALOT of mechanics from other souls title, of course you will be compared, especially if it's not polished or properly balanced around other mechanics that exist in the game.
And it sounds to me like you're saying "don't expect Fromsoft polish". If that was what you meant, I mean this game sells for as much as every other Fromsoft title. It had the time to look at the inspirations that it was built upon. OF COURSE I will expect more polish. I don't expect it to work the same, but I expect it to work better or work intimately with the other things that exist in the game.
But when your combat screams calculated aggression but you're discouraged from doing so by spamming ganks; or the way you move around the world so fast but ambushes contradict that and slow you down so much, then there is a very clear issue of disconnect, where the initial design was meant to do x, but then y prevents that from happening.

Agree on your points man. Especially the way you cast spells. In Elden Ring it's so tedious and painful to scroll through your spells.. You fight more with selecting the spell than with the enemies. From Soft taking notes here I hope. We also see the commitment from devs to make the game as best as possible and huge point they listen to our feedback.

The reason the game is being patched so much is because it's LITERALLY unfinished. Do you know why they can release these patches very fast, even with just a day between each of them? No, it's not because they don't sleep, it's because these patches were already on the bench, and they either chose to watch if people were going to have issues, and deploy them, or they were re-QAing them first before actual release.
Credits to them though for actually listening to density and trying to fix it in SOME places, but reducing it is not the point, placing them to be challenging, NOT FRUSTRATING is what people want.

I've never pushed myself hard enough to beat any of these games and I learned that I'm better off learning patterns. Now when it came to bosses on jedi Survivor I couldn't rely on ablities to finish them off so I had no choice but to learn. But even tho I could figure out how to barely kill a boss by using all my tools at my disposal in this LOTF. I tell myself. "You're not gonna beat this boss till you can perfectly parry all parryable attacks and dodge when needed". If I can't parry or dodge 90% of attacks on the fly as it happens in the game, then I have no business progressing

The game was sold on the Unreal Engine 5 and the great graphics, but mostly that was marketing. The reality is that even in Performance mode you will still see horrible frame rate drops in Umbral, especially Pilgrim's Perch, but even cutscenes sometimes crawl. The highlights to me are exploration, the interconnected areas and initially Umbral is cool, but the ridiculous amount of enemies and chokepoints, especially in Umbral for unblocking doors or even just getting an item drop is terrible and it is more depressing than fun to redo some parts as the game goes on.
The short take is that they stupidly put "blightown on steroids" (or Demon's Souls 5-1 as another take) as the second area so that even after you learn how to parry for Pieta or whatever strategy you use, you are then confronted with a big, really big, area where you can easily die to gravity whether it is platforming or combat (most weapon moves move you forward), you have to deal with Umbral swaps and you are definitely going to get lost at some point, especially as you unlock shortcuts, because it all starts looking the same. Based on the trophies, over 50% of players are still there and probably gave up.
While I really appreciate that the game isn't linear and that you can progress a bit more like Dark Souls, they still gate key items and vendors and there is a lot, really, a lot, that is missable, so I won't be surprised to hear about the person that never unlocked the blacksmith or thought the game was broke because they missed a conversation with an NPC and couldn't progress.
Unlike Lies of P, it isn't linear and it does have multiplayer, and while the NPCs will not win fights for you, you can summon OP players that will destroy everything for you and they don't automatically disappear after a boss is dead. That is what will get more people through the game.
The game should get better as they patch it and it is definitely worth checking out, but be prepared to be frustrated or disappointed by a lot of elements.

    • @ocoDOT
      @ocoDOT  Рік тому

All very valid points. The blacksmith being missable is not a good at all, I agree 100% on that. Didn't make sense to me.
As for performance I did notice frame drops sometimes in Umbral and in the hub area of all places but other than that I had a smooth experience. Though if that happens more often than not I can certainly see that lessening your enjoyment of the game. I know it's a real killer for me but I have a rather good PC so I don't experience that much nowadays. You shouldn't need the latest thing though just because a new game came out. Optimization (both framerate and disk space) is something developers just gave up on some years back it seems.

@@ocoDOT Overall, I recommend this game to anyone that enjoys Soulslike games, unless they have OCD and feel they must complete trophies. I finished the game with one of the endings, and have done a fair amount of co-op, dealt with invaders, started new games on different toons, etc. NG+ is annoying, so just do additional playthroughs on NG 0 and gimp yourself if you don't like being OP so you don't have to deal with the vestige issue, if nothing else. Since LotF is multiplayer, it has more longevity than Lies of P. The developers have already dropped so many patches, that LotF has dramatically improved since launch, but some bits are simply aggravating, like all the Red Reaper changes that punishes anyone that hasn't already farmed him. They still have a long ways to go, but their roadmap shows the game will continue to improve through the end of the year.
The OCD issue is that almost nobody is going to get the platinum unless they play through at least two times or three times if you don't make a backup save and then redo a large part of the end game for all the endings and side quests. In addition to the endings and NPC quest lines, the armor and weapon trophies are unbearable. Some NPC quest lines are mutually exclusive, many that require engaging with the NPC before a particular point, including needing to fail around ten boss fights or more, so you can then summon an NPC for the boss fight for their quest line. In short, I do not recommend trying for the platinum unless you want to hate the game and yourself.

    - projectiles track to the point even arrows turn in flight and those umbral cum shots can almost do u-turn after you
    - parry is totally pointless, you are punished for doing it successfully and even weak mobs need multiple parries to get crit which means you will lose more hp than just dodge it
    - reusable mobs to the point of absurd... you beat mini boss, then you walk 2 rooms further and previous bosses are waiting for you as normal enemies... wtf
    - traps everywhere, it's almost like a parody
    - umbral buff is annoying because it's very slow to remove
    - umbral chest must be targeted while being surrounded by billion mobs your targetting switch to
    - when you die and respawn in umbral in boss fight they attack you constantly and you die
    - there are 2 ring slots, while 3 would provide much more interesting build variety
    - respec items are literally 3 and you need 75 eyes to get it from vendor... I still didn't get that many I don't care about pvp bullshit
    - i tried online... only once i got connected and instantly dc after loading
    - dual daggers are pointless, they do less dmg, often miss, instead better to go with dual short swords

Most of the complaints can be attributed to genre in general, but for example mimics not being chests but shinies on the ground changed how I viewed them, but some people don't want to adapt.
Density was very high, but there was not a single area as infuriating as Tomb of the Giants, Sen's Fortress, Anor londo archers, Catacombs or Blight town. Dark souls 2 also had those areas. Only Dark Souls 3 was mostly free of those zones (Irythyll Dungeon). Why is that complaint exclusive to Lords of the fallen?
PvP is responsive and the ping was solid every time I tried. Can't say the same for From Software games.
Some bosses were bullshit (Kingrangr what's his face comes to mind), but there was no Bed of chaos levels of bullshit. Some bosses were really easy for me, but I think it's mostly because of the relative imbalance of thrown weapons and spells.
The game has lot's of cool mechanics and some that aren't as fun/good. But which soulslike doesn't?
I feel like Lords gets that much hate because Lies of P released not long ago and while it's an awesome game, it gets exhausting. Genre burnout might be the issue here, not Lords as a game.
On the topic of Lies of P - THANK YOU LORDS OF THE FALLEN FOR NOT DOING THE 2 FULL HP BARS PHASES BULLSHIT FOR EVERY BOSS.

@@ocoDOT for the most part, yes, I have. The coop is basically Elden Ring’s co-op with one less friend. The bosses definitely felt easier than what I’ve heard, for example, another UA-camr (I can’t recall the channel name) said that they had spent around 2 hours on Judge Cleric, while my friend and I first tried her, not even going into umbral on my end. There is weapon/catalyst scaling, but your health doesn’t seem to get cut at all, and radiance/inferno doesn’t seem to really get scaled that much. For example, one of my friends and I were fighting the archer boss just before Congregator, and I decided to use magma surge which after 3 or 4 uses, that boss was dead. As far as the cooperator dying, it works like Remant II, where you can revive the player at the cost of a healing charge, if you have one. There is a distance limit, so you there isn’t a possibility of the host being in Forsaken Fen, while their friend is in Fitzroy’s Gorge. As far as the stability, the host really needs to have decent internet, or else you will definitely lag, and possibly teleport all over the place. While you can completely go through the game as a cooperator, only pick-ups you can get are off of enemies that are killed, and you won’t be able to get any of the rememberances, long story short, you’re only getting weapons from enemy drops or from bosses like the Skinstealer. Overall not as seamless as Hexworks advertised (unlike Remant II), but it is fun, and I would recommend if you have friends to play with. Just expect the every once in a while invasion, as soon as you are set multiplayer to “Yes”, you are able to be invaded (so basically DS3, but online isn’t behind a finite resource).

The game world is large, and somehow, my first playthrough was 28 hours with afk time + me getting lost a few times. One of the biggest misteps this game makes is how fast it is. If you know where you're going the world goes from feeling large to small fairly quickly. I did not skip passed most of the game, the only encounters I skipped were ambushes I didn't want to deal with a second time.
Due to that speed, the encounter design issue gets worse, because you have significantly less down time between encounters. Which will push players to want to utilize the best options to clear out packs of enemies, or just utilize their mach speed sprint.

Great video! I used Fitzroys Sword for my entire 1st playthrough as soon as I picked it up. I kept my Strength and Dexterity even, so a good Quality build. I didnt realize throwables were so good until halfway through the game, so I incorporated them too using Bloody Hatchets and the hammers.

Picked up v1.5 because it's on sale for 50% off. I do think it has some baked-in balancing issues/design flaws but my main issue is that some enemy (physical) attacks are magnetized to you. I just don't like that type of mechanic in a Soulsborne and I struggle to think of another Soulsborne I've played that does it in such a glaring fashion.
Outside of that, I think the game is pretty damn fun and most of the other things that people complain about don't really bother me. I do think the balancing is really off at times though. I can't even imagine what this game would have been like on Day 1, lol. Thank God for NG0+, I made it midway but started over because I just wasn't being as effective as I wanted to be and I was tired of simply running through most areas.
Now I feel like I can engage with the game in a proper way but it's also disappointing because I feel like the balancing just isn't there at times. In Souls games I never want an easy mode or to cheese things but this game just feels so off at times so cheese it is because when the game shines it really shines and I want to see it through solo, then do some coop, and maybe unlock some different endings, lots of content to have fun with. Not a terrible game at all. Hopefully the devs tighten things up in the sequel, I'll definitely pick it up as I'm sure it'll be an improvement on some already fantastic ideas for the genre.

First I played the guy with the flail and shield, but after the 3th boss, I wasn't really feeling the build so I started over with the prisoner class. I had a blast just mega punching mobs and drop kicking mobs of legdes, it cracked me up everytime. Finished the game with the prisoner class and ended up dual wielding talons, using the the umbral chain to imbued the talons with poison and on the side used the assassin's bow. From the start I just spammed points in endurance so I could just keep punching, in combination with max equip load to be able to wear heavy armor but still stayed in the light category to be quick and bulky. A couple of bosses I managed to kill them 1st try cause my high endurance and light encumbrance kept me moving all the time so I could just keep dodging quickly and could easily reengage to get some quick punches in.

Although the game may not be perfect it’s still is tons of fun. For anyone saying the game is really easy the bosses get a little more difficult on NG+2 the life boost and aggressiveness is significant.

Tbh as someone with 100+ hours already i only really have a few complaints:
The removal of vestiges in ng+. I understand there idea and logic behind it but realistically its not a good system in the size the world has. Like the world is interconnected but its not interconnected enough to be tolerable to run for 80% of your ng+ time.
the multiplayer connection and balancing. I love helping other players especially ones that arent mechanically the best and struggle more then most sp they can progress the game further vs dropping it BUT trying to join is 10-20 minutes of getting failed connnections only to join someone whos like 2 bosses away from finishing ng+. Along with joining people around my level it still hyper nerfs the guest to where its like "why am i even here to help" and i feel every host expects the guest to sit back 60 feet away with the 3 shot crossbow. On top of the balancing kinda sucks theres so much 1 shot mechanics in pvp its wild. And the rewards for american servers being so dogshit compared to australian servers is just dumb.
and finally my last complaint is just the final part of the game. Every 1 of the 3 endings is just so eh unless you hyper focused every bit of lore and story you could find even then its not the best. Only 1 of the "final boss" fights is even good being the umbral ending. The adyr fight you get for lighting all the beacons is the biggest snooze fest of a fight ive ever done i never want to play that ending again. Its just not worth it.

I was so sure the final boss had a second phase or something but yeah it was not a great final battle. I guess the real final boss is the Sundered Monarch which was one of my favorites.

The final boss for the umbral ending to me was fantastic, tough yet fair. Required all my concentration but I'm not the greatest at these games lol. (How the hell I managed to get the 3 endings for this game and become elden lord is beyond me haha.) The armor and weapon designs are fantastic and I enjoyed doing exacter dunmire's and stomand's quests as a paladin, the tortured prisoner and delarosa's quests when I sided with adyr as an inferno dual wielding short sword guy. A couple for the umbral ending and now I'm on my 4th playthrough doing strength and agility with no magic. Which is tough because the magic is sick imo. I got the deluxe edition for half price about two weeks ago and this might be the only game I get the platinum for. I would have been happy to pay full price tbh. Cool vid btw. Glad u enjoy it too.

I don’t mind the mob density, the biggest issue I’ve been running into the longer I play is the lock on issues. Other than that I really love the game. I was really disappointed with someone like asmongold, who has a huge following to say the game is bad. When it’s just not true. I can understand if he didn’t like it but that doesn’t make the game bad.

Absolutely love the game. I was shocked by negative reviews as well. Yes, there were a few issues with frame rate here and there but that's being picky. Played through it once with a strength-radience build but really more a quality build. Now I'm going through it focusing on umbral spells and light armor for fast pace attacks.

I have a pretty similar experience with the game which is also super positive. People really are crying on wrong things, its like saying the car is broken while you don't even know how to turn on the engine. Im building a Dark crusaider as a paladin type, focused on Damage and Radiance with Gregory's sword. Great objective review by you, exactly how the game deserved it!

I haven’t seen anyone saying this but I wish they would’ve let us chose if we wanted a dash or roll dodge when locked on. I know you can press O twice for a roll when locked on but it’s just not the same. It might sound crazy but to me the dash just doesn’t seem quite right for the flow of this game, I think it’s the shorter distance you travel and how quick the dash is, it just kinda messes up the flow for me on a lot of the boss fights cause I can sit there while not locked on and roll everything perfectly.

Great points, overall agree. I’m halfway through, and really enjoying it. I love the dark fantasy aesthetic, game looks beautiful! Even small touches like having your own character on the loading screen is very cool. I think most people had problems with the state of performance/glitches (including crashes, PVP connection/latency problems) upon initial release. It really could’ve used 3-6 months, more polishing, or at least a demo with some feedback to incorporate needed fixes/changes prior. Although I think the enemy diversity is pretty good… I wish they should consider restricting certain enemy *types* to certain *zones* (to make each zone/enemy feel a little bit more unique). I think the replay value will be very good as you stated. Time to fire up LotF again! Thx for the video 🙏

It’s not like this game is hard though. Majority of bosses are meh. I Beat it on PS5 and at the time it was only 3.9% of people had beaten it. I was leveled 85 which from what I’m told is underleveled. I think most people have legit gripes. This ain’t a game you’re going to be stuck days on bosses

i do have genuine love of this game about to go onto my 4th playthrough but my biggest gripe is the bosses half of them to me aren't bosses just elites that i later on am gonna 2 shot in the level i fought the 'boss' in. But there's a lot it does right weapon variety especially you have no idea how happy i was when i realised the stick you get can actually be a viable weapon i also realise that a lot of people had performance issues where as mine ran perfectly but again i can't comment on that really because my system is fairly high end so my frames was at a minimum of 70 in the worst areas overall the game has pros and cons like every game before it but from my point of view the developers have shown a willingness to listen to criticism and make changes so yeah kinda happy to see where this game/studio goes in the coming months.

I loved the first game (supposedly I am a minority in that) so I was looking forward to this one as well, but it seems like the game has become much more complicated and perhaps even too changed. I am trying right now to find enough things to like in order to buy it. You make a good job in presenting the game, it seems to be getting better, so I am going to wait a bit longer and see if they bring in some changes to make some improvements that would get my interest high enough.

I've really been enjoying my time in the game, the build diversity and combat mechanics are probably my favorite thing. I did get kind of lost and ended up killing the bosses way out of order, but ended up with a build that in my first playthrough that just melts enemies. I have dual grand swords, one with 300 bleed and the other with 200, both also do holy damage, which then I buff with more holy damage. For amulet I use the one that makes holy do more posture damage and then the extra holy damage ring. I just started pvping tonight and already have about 220 hands, so it seems to be working so far.

My first build is a full umbral caster. I spend a lot of time in umbral nuking hundreds of enemies. As far as coop goes it is very good as long as you have a good connection with the host. A bad connection makes it super hard because your dodges aren't respected. A dodge that would normally work does not in a bad connection. I usually exit on people who have a bad connection with me.

I really love this game but avoided the parry like the plague, it just feels so frustratingly inconsistent. On repeat playthroughs, I'll just try to exclusively parry a boss and it seems like the timing is just so obtuse for all of their attacks. Just better off rolling and attacking since the bosses don't really punish you for doing that, and it lets you have consistent dps

    • @ocoDOT
      @ocoDOT  Рік тому

I get that, against some bosses it definitely makes more sense to just roll. If the posture dmg was a little bit higher when you parry it'd be great.

As a souls veteran, this is the closest to the souls experience. And the best part is, somehow it does not feel like souls, in the sense of being a different concept, quite hard to define, but perhaps: a combination of blasphemous art, souls reaver and souls in engine 5 graphics. Also, dodging, rolling and parrying is so versatile. Improvements: on pc no issues since the recent updates and the team is always improving performance, however PvP connectivity is a problem.
