Loving it so far. I agree that it's relatively situational though, I don't use it the same amount as I did the high damage "transformation" attacks in Bloodborne which are basically the same thing. Combat in general feels great, there's just a weird amount of distance you and enemies can cross absurdly quickly if locked on and doing a light attack but it easy to get used to. Everything else feels SO MUCH BETTER than combat in Lies of P, yet people claim that was a masterpiece lmao
@@Funko777 I haven't seen anyone claim Lies of P is a masterpiece, just that it comes the closest to feeling like a From Software game. Dark Souls 1 is a masterpiece, and Sekiro is a masterpiece. Bloodborne comes pretty close to being a masterpiece. Lies of P is just a very solidly constructed facsimile of various bit of From's design language, with its own interesting twist on the combat, and honestly a better story than anything From has done but Sekiro or AC6. I disagree that Lies of P's combat was worse than this. The main thing keeping me from trying LotF is that the combat looks so weightless and floaty. Movements are so fast, the sound design is barely there on hits, there just isn't any heft or physicality to any of it. That's something that Lies of P absolutely nailed. It just screams AA.

This is a fantastic review Cowboy, thanks for this. I had my reservations about this from some other reviews, but you cleared up a lot and it sounds great. I normally don't play a lot of online or do invasions so the problems with that luckily won't affect me much.
Fantastic review Cowboy... very detailed and balanced as always....you are my go to for these reviews and am excited to jump into the content. Carry on Cowboy.
Good review. I like what he said about the game's guidance system. When you have to go on to the internet to find out what you need to do or where to go next because you're just running around in circles getting aggravated, that's when the game needs to give you some more help. Encourage exploration but don't waste our time. That should be a game's mission regarding player guidance.
The recursive level design thing is something Lies of P did very well actually. It's just that the order in which you had to go through each area was linear.
It shows how amazing from software is with their souls games. But, the effort still put forth by a smaller developer is worth rooting for. Kinks and all. Hope to really have fun.
@@-opustry and use your brain for atleast a minute and imagine all the shit they have to do for a release as theirs. It's literally impossible (period) to have a perfect launch, especially when you understand that 10s of millions of people will be playing it. Of course there will be bugs and someones gonna find them.
Looks like they put A TON of thought into this sequel. Also having FromSoft take a year off and not put out a "soulslike" game again allows this game to stand in it's own spotlight.
DeS: 2009 DS1: 2011 DS2: 2014 Bloodbourne: 2015 DS3: 2016 Sekiro (if you can even call it a souls game lol): 2019 Elden Ring: 2022 It seems like the trend at FROM is about 2 to 3 years per game unless they’re worked on simultaneously
I trust Cowboy's opinion and I have been wanting to travel through another game with him as I really enjoyed playing through the Dark Souls games with his walkthroughs. I will probably pick this up a while after release so they can iron out some of the issues based on player feedback but otherwise this one looks promising if a bit flawed
Thanks for the review bud and the way you explained everything. After watching, you play it and listening to your review definitely buying it! Thanks again Cowboy! You’re the man!
I’m not too far but that’s one of the coolest things in the game. Sooooo sick finding secrets with that lamp. If you stare too long the enemies will stare back and pull your ass into the umbral world. Shit is terrifying and amazing
I’m so fine with each person’s world has its own progression. I know it’s the norm, but it’s way better to control where you’re at in the game instead of just rushing it with a friend one time.
29:05 its REALLY noticable after Lies of P not long ago. All sounds are much worse, i can barely feel impact of strike from sound. Like in Lies of P any weapon was cool to use because of great sound design, it felt amazing to feel the weapon. I tried Thymesia couple of days ago and it has much better sound design for example.
This is unfortunately a wait for sale for me, I will get back to it after a few patches though. But you certainly have gotten a lot better at reviews! This was a good one.

Glad to hear that weapon stats mostly rely just on one star youre scaling. Thers been so many weapons across the Souls games ive wanted to use for a character build but never could because I wasnt pumping into the correct secondary stat.
@AloneAgainstAll885im kinda surprised comments like this are pretty common, because there is nothing hard to understand about it at all, it is really intuitive system. Better the letter - better damage increase from stat. Basically scaling is how much damage you get from particular stat, particular range of values is E, after than D and etc, up to A and S.
@AloneAgainstAll885Yes. A weapon has a base damage, and then scaled damage that is added to that figure. The better the letter, the better the multiplier is applied to your stat it scales off of. What it scales off of may be changed differently per game, but the basic version of the weapon will tend to scale off of strength or dexterity or both, which is called “quality” in souls (and mage weapons may scale off of their particular stats)
Nice review very fair. I am excited to check it out tomorrow. I am going with the pre order class as well. Feels like the class for me. That sword you got in this video seems like something I want as well! The limited upgrade materials makes me think they want you to play through multiple times with different classes instead of new game runs. I actually like that. The new game mechanic of limited way points sounds kind of dookie honestly. Thanks FcB as always.
is there access to greatswords early in the game? In the first Lords of the Fallen, I got the greatsword around 1/4 from the end - so basically I never played with it much before the game ended (big letdown at the time).
This is my first ever souls game I’ve ever played and I think this is an amazing introduction to the genre if you wanna start playing more souls like games after I finish this I will either play elden ring or sekiro!!
Just beat the first boss and the frame rate on Series X can be pretty shaky in performance mode. Hopefully it's improved with patches because I'm liking the game otherwise.
It seems like they've massively improved. I'm liking it so far. I played the original and it was OK, you could tell their ambitions were bigger than their resources.
This is an entirely different developer which makes the whole thing kind of bizarre. Given the reception of the 2014 game, there was no real incentive to use the IP name as some kind of brand recognition. The original dev, Deck 13 went on to make The Surge series, which are actually pretty good, and the recent nonsoulslike Atlas Fallen that released a couple months back. The publisher holds the IP I assume and probably pushed for this dev to use it.
@@mandrews6282Yep, that and when you’re pitching something it’s much easier to get more funding for a continuation of something that already existed, rather than something totally new - even though the older thing might not have been well received and could actually hurt your perception ultimately :/ investors do be like that
It's ridiculously how entertaining this game is. The devs are still pushing out weekly content and patches. 200+ hours inn and still got things to do. Really love this game.
Hey Cowboy! During your initial stream of this game you seemed to be under the impression that 2 handed did the same damage as single handed but it just took away more poise from an enemy. Now that you've had more time with the game do you find that is still the case?
This is what I was waiting for. I wasn't going to pull the trigger on this until I got Cowboy and Rurikhan's review. Honest feedback from content creators I trust. I'm hoping this game fills the void while I wait for the Elden Ring DLC.
I think this game looks amazing and fun. However, I have multiple unfinished games that I definitely want to finish. I have a problem with finishing games I already have.
Man I feel you there. I'm in the final act of Baldurs Gate 3 right now and out of pure respect for the game (it's spectacular) I must finish the story before moving onto anything else. Everytime I think I'm close to wrapping it up some crazy new in-depth side quest reveals itself or I discover some giant incredible new area. Starfield, Lies of P, Armored Core 6 and now Lords of the Fallen. I've got a lot of catching up to do.

@@Juju-cm7ge with respect, i get that. i guess my point is LoP has been out for like a month now, and had time for people to digest and play. LoTF drops tonight (EDT time zone) and players who haven’t gotten a early release copy are making comparisons, i believe to be unfairly. you feel me?
It just sounds like they should of held the release for a few months, then maybe released it early next year. But if all of the things are truly small, it sounds like the devs are going to be good about patching everything. Either way, I’m going to have a blast during the walkthrough. Thanks for what you do CB!
I know even throughout recording the let's play they were patching stuff as I called it out, like the encumbrance bug. I'm sure a lot of this stuff will get fixed up but with 6 more months in the oven it would have been an undeniable banger and it's unfortunate as first impressions are huge in this industry.
Now was the right the right time to release this so it gets the attention. If this dropped in the same window as Elden Ring DLC, early next year by the look of it, it would be in the shadow of the Erdtree, literally. Im looking forward to sitting down with this now while I've got the time.
Ordered this yesterday along with Dead Space both at £21 each, currently playing through lies of P on NG+ I’m gonna watch your series on it anyway lol. GG’s on being the souls likes go to guy 😊
Can't wait to get started, tomorrow. Cowboy apparently does thorough and comprehensive reviews, as well as the 'walkthroughs,' which he is known for being the best at. GL to everyone. If you're invaded, tomorrow, it wasn't me.
I think other than the kill sound some weapon sounds don't really make sense, like peiata's sword is a light sword, why does it make the same sound and have the same hitstop as a regular sword? The parry sounds are also pretty weak, the movement and combat is very floaty. Similar to dark souls 2 and not in a good way. Like i want to dodge diagonally but it doesn't dodge correctly in the indented direction. overall very clunky feeling. I died more times to the clunk, enemy spam than any boss because i made a real mistake. The bosses were disappointingly easy. There's too much enemy spam in certain areas, especially when you enter umbral its just unfun to deal with. The umbral looks cool but exploration just ends up being a chore. The game has good fidelity but i don't think its fromsoft quality presentation. Lies of P just all of that much better on all of these regards. its like 6/10 game at most. Lots of ideas but not all of them are executed well. Just lacks the polish of the other souls-like game that came out this year. Most people that call this game better than lies of p. I think they're just trying to make a subjective opinions come off as objective. Like this game has much easier bosses you can do in like 1-3 tries at most, if you enjoy that more than actually complex bosses that require you to play well. yeah, you'll think its a better game. But even ignoring that i think this game fails in other aspects.
Good review, I did not really see where you mentioned if the bosses are interesting or the area enemies stack up to make a fun game. Are there some uneven enemies/boss jumps?
In regards to 3 points: 1. Questlines aren't as obscure as you think. I managed to complete most of them blind on my first run. I only failed Kukajin because I don't do summons (Besides Isaac, which is the one thing I looked up because I was confused as to what to do next, although I could've just looked at the achievement), Drustan because I missed his Carlath encounter and Byron because I went to Upoer Carlath before finding Winterberry. Everything else was pretty straightforward. 2. The game gives you a cutscene that shows that Bramis Castle is your final destination, although it's not as clear unless you interact with the door when in uoper Carlath. This is something you didn't do, while for me it was the first thing to do once I got to Upper Carlath so when I cleansed the beacons I thought "bet that door opens now" and it did. So I wouldn't say that's a worthy complaint, but it does depend on the player's actions, which is something the devs couldn't have predicted. 3. I agree on the OSTs although some were really nice and I do have one that really stands out. The Iron Wayfarer's OST. It's so different, enjoyable and relaxing. Other than that I'm glad to hear you had a blast. I absolutely love this game besides the Hollow Crow and Adyr but everything else is just awesome. I think the game is getting a lot of underserved hate. Primarily in regards to performance issues and bugs. I finished my 100% completion of the game and can say that during 100 hours I experienced nonperformance issues, frame drops or crashes and encountered a total of 1 bug, which was easily fixable. I'm not saying it's a perfect game but what I experienced was really enjoyable and I definitely got my money's worth.
Have to say this is probably the most frustrating and infuriating game I’ve played in a long time. Adds everywhere, bloody umbral traversing mechanic, save points are terrible and the loss of souls after traversing my way through all the hordes to get them back!
I was hesitant to get it due to the performance issues even with high-end PC's but I'm such a sucker for dark fantasy games and this looks absolutely amazing.
I really don't understand the logic of releasing under the SAME NAME as the old game. As a consumer, I didn't know this was a re-release until I saw cowboy's let's plays.
@@stormz9351 Most consumers are not going to spend time on the Internet looking stuff up. Which is why most devs slap marketing terms like remake or remaster on games. Or just do what sports games do and add the year.
It’s not a rerelease it’s a brand new game a reboot. A rerelease would mean they’d just release the original version maybe just up rez’d which is not the case with this version. It’s basically a new game.
@stormz9351 people aren't even going to know it's a new game that they should look up. They hear the name, say oh yeah that shitty souls copy, and move on. Giving this game the same name as a massive failure is incredibly stupid.
The two world transition remembers me a lot of Legacy Of Kain PS1... when we can and need to transition in order to accomplish the games goals. Best Regards from Brazil. Big fã of you word men.
This really has been the year of soulsborne games with Lies of P, Wo Long, and now Lords of the Fallen. I dearly love FromSoftware and obviously they make the highest quality but other studios are starting to get a lot better and throw their own twist into the genre, just finished Lies of P last night and definitely want to go for the platinum, hopefully it’ll be the same for this game
One of the nicest upgrades is having multiple spells on hot keys versus only being able to select one at a time. I enjoy playing intelligence or faith builds, but it always sucked having to cycle through spells or incantations in a frenzy during boss battles in Elden Ring or Dark Souls. So nice you can have 4-5 that are all available simultaneously.
My copy arrived today and I've played about 2 hours so far. I am actually loving the game so far, movement feels really great and fluid. Combat yes slightly clunky, but then so was DS1 and DS2 but it is by no means bad. The world is also really beautiful and there is loads to explore. Overall I'm happy with how it feels so far and can't wait to progress further.
Great Review FC! Been enjoying the gameplay as I haven’t been able to pick this one up. Looking forward to it. You are still the goat. Just take the compliment. I speak the truth. 😂
It seems weird to me how nobody mentions the bosses at all in the reviews. I came to watch this review because FightingCowboy is a souls game specialist so I thought surely he would say something about the bosses like how many, boss variety, their quality, maybe show one of the early intro bosses or something but no. Nothing at all. Something feels off with all this...were reviewers asked not to talk about bosses or what's going on? Souls games live and die by the quality of the bosses so it seems wild to review a souls like without mentioning the bosses at all.
There isn't some conspiracy surrounding the bosses, they're bosses same as any other souls game. Lots of them are multi-phase, the mini-bosses are pretty easy and you can abuse em. I've never talked extensively about bosses in reviews because that's generally heavy spoiler wise.

All of your complaints of the combat doesn’t seem like an issue anymore. I just started playing yesterday and read that they recently updated and changed that stuff
@@Eggcornbean Good to know. I was waiting for updates to try it.
they definitely took some inspiration from Blasphemous as well lol that opening armor set in the video looks almost identical. Can't wait to check this out!
That should be a game's mission regarding player guidance.
exactly! big difference between giving guidence, and holding a players hand.
Absolutely. And knowing where to go would give all those shortcuts a bigger purpose.
Soulsborne games never do this why should souls game that are trying to emulate that would that do it?
Been following your let's play, and it's been on point to help me find my way around. Thank you for your videos!
Great comprehensive review; much appreciated. Allll aboard, the hype train! Can't wait to jump into this!
What do you think of the game 7 months on? still worth playing?
The recursive level design thing is something Lies of P did very well actually. It's just that the order in which you had to go through each area was linear.
It shows how amazing from software is with their souls games. But, the effort still put forth by a smaller developer is worth rooting for. Kinks and all. Hope to really have fun.
from software are not amazing, all of their games are full of issues on release and get heavily nerfed, buffed etc while glitches remain.
@@-opustry and use your brain for atleast a minute and imagine all the shit they have to do for a release as theirs. It's literally impossible (period) to have a perfect launch, especially when you understand that 10s of millions of people will be playing it. Of course there will be bugs and someones gonna find them.
Would love to see more reviews man u have such a good vibe and enjoy your input 😊
Super professional review. What I look for when I’m looking for a new game to purchase. Thx CB
Looks like they put A TON of thought into this sequel. Also having FromSoft take a year off and not put out a "soulslike" game again allows this game to stand in it's own spotlight.
A year off? Bro they go like 5 years between games

This game looks amazing. Thanks Cowboy for always putting out these coherent and concise reviews and guides
Excellent review, very thorough. Thanks for all the work Cowboy, I'm definitely looking forward to playing tomorrow!
Forgot about this comment... yeah I tried multiple times but I could not enjoy this game at all, I was so hopeful too
Thanks for the review bud and the way you explained everything.
After watching, you play it and listening to your review definitely buying it! Thanks again Cowboy! You’re the man!
Honestly with this new umbral world mechanic has me the most excited to play, it's such a unique mechanic so much stuff they can do with it.
That was my gripe making me not want to buy this either after playing lies of p.
This is unfortunately a wait for sale for me, I will get back to it after a few patches though.
But you certainly have gotten a lot better at reviews!
This was a good one.
The diversity in move-set and parrying is what’s compelling me to buy this, thanks for showing that especially
6:36 it’s so diverse Cowboy confused himself 😂
The Umbral mechanics of this game make me wonder about the possibilities if a Legacy of Kain reboot ever came to be.
I know, right? The two worlds thing immediately reminded me of the Kain series. GIVE US LOK REBOOT!
Thanks for being a consistent legend bro, definitely gonna cop LotF and use the walkthrough. I love these types of games, I just get so overwhelmed on all the open world paths and don’t want to miss anything 😭
Did you say "here we are in 2013"?
Your the man Cowboy! Hoping for a walkthrough for this one. Youve helped me in damn near every souls/souls-like game and I feel the Umbral world will be tricky. Thanks always for the help on these games and so stoked to play, tomorrow at 10am : (
just felt I had to comment lol, Cowboy is my go to guy also on the souls game, without him my experience through a game would of been very Fustrating, Love this streamer for who he is ! You got ur walkthrough and he delivered so happy gaming 🥳 Oh iv not yet bought this game been reluctant to purchase due to the problems iv read about yet the devs seam to be sorting a lot of them out 👏
I really hope they can fix those minor things, this seems to have a lot of potential to be my one of favourite games
Thanx cowboy ❤ When ps4 dropped, I grabbed this game day 1, and because of your walk throughs, I made it to the credits (the satisfactionafter getting my ass handed to me. Was awesome) ! I then went on to play Bloodborne and all the FromSofts and it has become my FAVORITE genre hands down. I believe your insight and knowledge was a big reason why I stuck it out and fell in love with soulslikes. Fast forward almost 10 yrs later, and here we are ❤U are truly a gentleman and a scholar in the genre 👏 We luv ya buddy! Been here since 2013. And I won't stop until you hang up the headphones 😊 Awesome video as per usual 👏 👌 Can't wait to see what boss video for tips I'll need in my first blind walk through 😂 cheers
They should add a 'clank' sound when you go down a ladder with that helm
since many years, i follow you from Italy and you're my favourite gaming youtuber ever. Your relaxing voice and your many walktrough accompanied me in every soulslike so far. Big hug from Bologna, keep going.
Best review I've seen/read. Seems if they patch some of the little annoyances out, in a few months this is gonna be a phenomenal soulslike.
The axe throw at the end and the dude falling into the boxes was awesome. 😊
Saw FC on the livestream w/ LotF dev, that's a good sign, getting FC feedback is a great thing and I hope they listen.
😮you can do a Pyramid head cosplay while wielding a giant great sword ???? 19/20 GOTY
This gotta be the best review I've seen on this game. I like how you showcase things as you talk about them.
Thanks for the great concise review cowboy. Will be playing this tonight. See ya on the field my fellow crusaders!
This is like if souls was built around dantes inferno and legacy of cane
Don't forget Blasphemous as well
is there access to greatswords early in the game? In the first Lords of the Fallen, I got the greatsword around 1/4 from the end - so basically I never played with it much before the game ended (big letdown at the time).
Cowboy is cosplaying the Penitent in this game. 🔥
This is my first ever souls game I’ve ever played and I think this is an amazing introduction to the genre if you wanna start playing more souls like games after I finish this I will either play elden ring or sekiro!!
I don’t recall you talking about the boss fights. The reviewer with IGN said they were disappointingly easy.
I first attempted most bosses but I was also super unga bunga man so I figured that was more me being me than the game being easy.
@@FightinCowboyif you first-tried them all then it's easy. I doubt you could do that in any soulsborne on your first playthrough even if you grinded
Digging the pentient one looking head piece! I’m excited to check this out!
Just beat the first boss and the frame rate on Series X can be pretty shaky in performance mode. Hopefully it's improved with patches because I'm liking the game otherwise.
Epic assessment as always, currently using your walkthrough for my platinum ,always my go to guy for soulsborne stuff, legend 🤘
Its slightly stronger but only about 10%
Charged 2H heavies tho hit very hard
Do 2 handed do more stagger damage?
This is what I was waiting for. I wasn't going to pull the trigger on this until I got Cowboy and Rurikhan's review. Honest feedback from content creators I trust. I'm hoping this game fills the void while I wait for the Elden Ring DLC.
So since it is so easy to get lost, we should expect a detailed playthrough, brought to you by Fighting Cowboy Right?😂🤞
the parry systems for all shields and weapons looks reaalllllll nice

LoTF drops tonight (EDT time zone) and players who haven’t gotten a early release copy are making comparisons, i believe to be unfairly. you feel

Solid review, have a thumbs up. Thanks for the video sir
@@FightinCowboyworth the extra 10$ for the dark crusader class or nah?
@@emptysoul2757I mean, you can just make the class yourself. Everything that class starts with is available in the game.
Now was the right the right time to release this so it gets the attention. If this dropped in the same window as Elden Ring DLC, early next year by the look of it, it would be in the shadow of the Erdtree, literally. Im looking forward to sitting down with this now while I've got the time.
@@ArmorOfZeus cool. Thanks 🙏🏻
Lol he isn’t the “best” at anything
in the intro you said "...Here we are back in 2013" haha. Love the little oopsie. 0:19
Lies of P has way worse level design. Even Cowboy said the game is simple enough to not need a walkthrough
I’m still working my way through the first , but this gives me something to look forward to, great vid buddy
Had a cup of coffee and really enjoyed this review. Keep up the good work much appreciated.
2013? what? which year are we in?
Wdym? It's 2013, PS4 is the next gen console
Good review, I did not really see where you mentioned if the bosses are interesting or the area enemies stack up to make a fun game. Are there some uneven enemies/boss jumps?
I had a few bosses that were nail biters but nothing excessive
I would love a discovery map option... i kept forgetting the map in bloodborne
Bro ofc you start off the review with "here we are back in 2013" haha 😅. Love you, dawg. Solid review!
Cowboy: 2013

In regards to 3 points:
Adds everywhere, bloody umbral traversing mechanic, save points are terrible and the loss of souls after traversing my way through all the hordes to get them back!
i watched your walthrough of the first game back in the day and now im back again
Yo we in 2013 now
I was hesitant to get it due to the performance issues even with high-end PC's but I'm such a sucker for dark fantasy games and this looks absolutely amazing.
I really don't understand the logic of releasing under the SAME NAME as the old game. As a consumer, I didn't know this was a re-release until I saw cowboy's let's plays.
As a consumer, you should do some basic research on a product before making your purchase. If you did, you would know that it's not the same game.
@@dsagentno
@stormz9351 people aren't even going to know it's a new game that they should look up. They hear the name, say oh yeah that shitty souls copy, and move on. Giving this game the same name as a massive failure is incredibly stupid.
My physical copy was delayed coming in, so its gunna sweeeet to jump in with half a dozen walkthrough vids already up!
Seems it may just be the best souls like yet. I can't wait to play this tonight.
Been refreshing like a madman here 😂
Great Review FC!
@@FightinCowboypls say me have some weapons a weapon art with a special move like eldenring or ds 3?
