a cold english winters morning and the beast awakes. the only 73 98 in the uk running...she is called blanche after the first owner in chicopee boston ma. LOOK AT MY LATEST OVERHAUL ON UA-cam
Oldsmobile was the most underrated car made in America, they were high-performance luxury cars, those cars could run over 120 miles an hour all day with no problem, obviously, I owned a few, and in my opinion, they were the best- American-made cars little bit the transmission problems but once you took care of that they were awesome.
My high-school bf let me drive his 73 Olds 98 to and from my summer job! There I was 16 in 1975 driving this "yacht"! his dad had a garage and they were car lovers.. he also let me drive his old Rambler pushbutton 😂....old IRON was really something compared to cookie cutter plastic of today 👍🏽great memories great cars!
My aunt bought a new 1973 Oldsmobile 98 Recency. Tanbark with a black velour interior. That was the first year with the recirculating exhaust as the pollution control system. All 73 gm models idled a little rough because of it. My favorite years for the 98s were the 1966 to 1968 pillored Luxury Sedans.
Wow many many years ago I remembered my dad buying a new one of these at the Oldsmobile dealer when they was in existence , that day he was so happy , he took me for a long ride with mom it was a great day . That’s when cars was really worth the money think he paid 18,000 for it.
This car is beautiful. maybe it isn't about being practical when your passion is land yauchts. Unless you ARE rich, you'll have a (2nd car) limited mileage insurance policy, (reasonably cheap) as SHOWS and the people we meet, are so much FUN ! These huge 40's/50's/60's/70's Cruisers...Its their style, power and opulence and the floating feeling these cars give you. If you Love this feeling and have been bitten, then you'll KNOW ! (Not to mention all the flashy chrome and bright-work.) And the way they glide away with the majestic surging ease of a V8, Thick foam padding, power windows/seats air conditioning.... and that SMOOOTH ride. OLDSMOBILE 98... MAN, that's COMFORT right there.
Cars of this vintage were amazing to drive, got my drivers license behind the wheel of dad's second hand 74 version of the Olds 98 with 455ci and 400 turbo trans, in dark forest green. That car would pass everything but a gas station. Add a set of wings and you owned an airplane. Dad drove the Olds 98 until 1991 when he bought, for cash, a brand new pickup truck. The Olds sat in the driveway for 4-5 years, started every couple of weeks, after that I don't know what happened to it. Was an amazing car for long road trips, talk about a smooth ride, especially on the rough mountain roads through the anthracite coal region of Pennsylvania. Wish he'd have let me buy it off him, but we haven't talked in over twenty plus years, his choice.
I had a 1973 98 many years ago. If I were to pick my favorite year for this model, 1973 wins every time. The tail lights and the front of the car looked more aggressive and classy simultaneously. It's in 1974 when things begin to go downhill though.
The original tail pipes were flush with the bottom of the car, you had to look underneath to see it or them if you had optional dual exhaust. I don't understand why tailpipe makers today can't make them like the orignal
Too big to go in either garage eh ? What a colour ! I absolutely LOVE it ! I remember a few years ago seeing one of these Same cars in the UK. A white '73 Olds very badly rusted out(the trunk lid and around the tops of the sills., floors, body mounts etc. -in fact she was totally beyond viable/reasonable resto.) But It was sad to see her on its final voyage to the Scrappy. Such Great cars', these ! So it's GREAT to see a healthy one in the paint it was truly destined for. Well done on all the work lads. You've done a brilliant job and she now looks awesome. That's not even the word mate... Stunning is nearer I fink. I will look out for you at the shows over summer '15, that;s for sure. ~Beautiful. Beautiful. = ).
I can hear the engine sound like , saying : I'm shore if you shore , then yes yes I'm shore if you , sounds awesome , hope you keep it like that for long long time.
Hey old buddy, sure do, sold my Harley Davidson last year and I'm going to do a bit of work on her, hope your well been seeing your car in mags and stuff, how's everyone?
We all fine Jon, just getting older, 60 in Decrmber, having a party, if you are around you're more than welcome to come along, The Charger is looking good, should be though, was sprayed in 2010 after me and the car got attacked then sprayed again in 2011 after some arsehole set light to the garage.
@rgm 1987--I found a website the lists the color options available for 1973. This color is called Sunfire Orange Metallic, which is different than what Jon Sharpe mentioned, though the colors might be similar. That is what I found on this site: www.automotivetouchup.com/touch-up-paint/oldsmobile/1973/all-models/
Hi John, great car but I'm afraid my dad had one of these in Manchester about 17 years ago, I assume it's still about but I know of a two door regency which is Manchester too but rotten undercover. I've just bought a 73 98 regency from Iowa which is on its way over now so it will be good to see yours at a show ideally. I assume yours is not my dads old one as it was a metallic blue 73 98 ls. Where are you based yourself? Look ace in that colour, mine is just in white so hopefully can get weddings to pay off a bit of the fuel bill!
Buy dad bought me the exact car but dark blue but my took it one day and screwed it up so sold it but they got it running and cut the whole roof off and made a convertible but the cops made him park it so I've no idea were it ended up 🤔
Sounds like engine might require a tune-up. Either timing is a bit off, plugs might need replacing, and compression tests are in order. Nice looking 98 from 1973. These were wonderful cars to drive and enjoy.
I drove a 1976 98 for 5 years from 1989 to 93 dark maroon beautiful
Check my new videos
That is the most beautiful sound ever produced. Beautiful car all around. I would love to have one of my own.
Great sound, nice ride and getting old now.

Graduating in 1987, these big, awesome cars were hand me downs from relatives to young drivers, usually in really good physical condition at first,

my first car was a 1972 Olds 98. This brings back great memories. Even with the terrible gas mileage, I would love to have that car again.

Best year Olds! Amazing how well Olds did initially with the crash bumpers.
Nope, 1970 and '72 were the best years.
GM handled that situation beautifully!

My Dad had one of these. He brought it home and it was too long for the garage, so he extended the garage. So there.
I did the same

Stunning early 70's luxury

Thanks I took 6 months to choose the colour, had her since 1997 won't part with her.....
Bronze beauty 👍🏽
The original tail pipes were flush with the bottom of the car, you had to look underneath to see it or them if you had optional dual exhaust. I don't understand why tailpipe makers today can't make them like the orignal
Damn! By the way the engine sounds and camera shaking, I've concluded the car is holding the fone and doing it's OWN selfie vid! 😂
Been overhauled since look at my latest
It's a beauty 😮

N UA-cam soon
Look at my new you tube vid it's just been overhauled! I did it all myself
That's what you call a real car.
I like to view more about this Oldsmobile 98 - in and out , not a fan of 73 oldsmobile - but that look different.
Loved these boats. I would side around the back seat while my dad was driving. No seat belt required. Too much cushioning.
it cant be cheap to run something like that on your side of the pond! Sounds great though.
She's looking and sounding good!
Very nice

My dad's car. If you learned to parallel park on this generation you can park a truck today.
I’d park my ford for a good olds like this but I can’t find any. It’s a freakin shame dudes!
Take a look at the newer vids
Electronic ignition fitted and new carbs, all good, had to long to sell... Running cold....
gorgeous car! is this the factory exhaust? or is it an aftermarket replacement... if so, what kind of exhaust is it? its addictive to listen to it!
silberwolf2014 she has a straight through standard pipe with a turbo muffler just before the rear axle, with no rear box
@@milehighclassics thank you for your answer! That explains why it sounds sooo good :)
@@milehighclassics do you have the muffler's part number by any chance?
Beautiful sedan. Do you happen to know the name of the colour?

I THONK ITS CINAMINON SPICE BY GEN MOTORS USED ON BUICKS & OLDSMOBILE AND CHEVROLET NOT TOO MUCH ON PONTIACS.
I believe it's a Citation Bronze.
Your Olds is beautiful. I love the color. What is it?
2016 Suzuki horizon orange
The Olds 98 is a luxury car. It's not made for dual exhaust you shouldn't hear a sound when you start it
It's a single pipe with a turbo muffler however check out the latest after overhauled.

I think I'm fallin for these big girls! She dont even have 2be half as pretty as this one. I'd still love 'er🛳🌊
Sounds like flowmasters underneath........is this vehicle for sale?
No Iv just overhauled her new roof and paint next week, I will post when done, thanks for the great review
Ever notice all the cars from the 60’s to early 70’s always had a very robust sounding exhaust? Was it from the lack of catalytic converter back then?
No it's a turbo muffler mid way and no rear box check out my new videos
Wish I had one 😪 😕
If you want one look for one and save up and if you can’t get one look for a similar one BUY FIRST THINK LATER
Sure does.....
Loves these cars! Does it have a 455 Rocket under the hood?
Sure does
You could put 2 bodies in that trunk 😆🤣😂

It sounds like a diesel.
needed to be a little bigger car
Big block. 455
Evil dead
sounds like it needs a resonator in addition to the muffler....the engine should be silent
your opinion
Bet ya get a lot of shit about driving that over there, eh? Cant imagine the typical UK citizen having any appreciation for big old american cars....
Michael Menges yep they hate me, check out my latest overhauled pics
