  • This 1973 Oldsmobile promotional film, titled " Full Value From The Full Size Ninety Eight ", was sent to the Oldsmobile car dealerships to be used as an in-house Sales and customer training film. This
film highlights technical aspects and features of the new model year.
If you look up a different film I posted, titled "1974 Chevy Selling Monte Carlo ", you can see a rare glimpse of the film cartridge viewer that was used at the dealership where the customers and personnel were to view these films. The machine was made by Technicolor and called the " Chevrolet Mini Theater System "
This film came from my personal collection. This film was not downloaded from any website and is not reused content. This restoration is my work. The restoration process started with removing the super8 film from the Technicolor Cartridge. After removal the film was cleaned, repaired, and spooled onto a standard film reel. This film had many scratches and dust marks along with a fair amount of color fade. The scanning to digital process and basic color correction was performed on the Lasergraphics Scanstation motion picture film scanner system in 2k resolution. Excess film grain noise was removed, and extensive color restoration performed using 3 separate processes in DaVinci Resolve software. An additional processing for dust and scratch removal was performed utilizing NeatVideo. Then the film was upscaled into 4K resolution utilizing Topaz AI software. In 4K, the images were sharpened, and additional detail correction was performed. Then a final color restoration and image stabilization was performed in DaVinci Resolve. Finally, the film was downscaled back to 2k for uploading to UA-cam. As I work on these films, I try to improve the process as I go along. Thanks for watching.

Being a poor college student in 1973, I could never own one of these then. But my parents had one and I loved driving it. I can remember borrowing that car to take a trip across several states on vacation and the comfort at the end of a long day of driving Was amazing compared to modern cars.

The 73 maybe had a bit less muscle than the 70 or even the 71 but to me these were the prettiest 98's until the 1977 model and then the 1980 re-style. Oldsmobile is my favorite GM brand.

I've always loved the cars of the early 1970s- big, bold, and oh so smooth. I especially love the 1971-72 oldsmobiles- they still have tailfins!

Oh dang - I didn't know the grille was designed to swing back like that in a low-speed impact. Pretty slick!

The golden age of Oldsmobile. The 70’s was the time that olds just seemed to have the best style relative to other brands.

I saw these in the flesh as a gas station attendant. I didn’t appreciate them then as I do now. The white one looks particularly sharp.

I know, when I saw the video, I nearly fell off my chair. That is a seriously good looking car for its time and in that colour. Impressive machine.

Our family had a 1973 98 Regency. Wedgewood blue with white vinyl top. Stunningly beautiful and comfortable car.

We had the same one, and in Wedgewood blue as well. It came with a 8 track player with a 'Ventures' best hits tape.

Growing up the Cadillacs we had were problematic. Never a problem with Oldsmobile.

On both sides of my family my grandparents had Oldsmobiles. My grandfather had the exact Olds 98 in this video the light green metallic. I think the car was a year old and it started rusting.
Every 2 years it was a new Olds 98 luxury sedan or Regency

2 of my aunts bought a 74 Olds 98 Regency, both 4 doors and both white. Just a coincidence (one was my Moms sister and one was my Dads sister) One had a green velour int, the other was brown leather. Those were the days!

Stunning, Cadillac style starting at the shared roof at a fraction of the cost. GM's entry into the full-size luxury market.

Iv never seen this, Iv got one here in the uk and restored her ( bronze on UA-cam), and having owned her for 27 years it proves the sturdiness of basic mechanics

Not quite. Hardly cheap. They were in price comparable to the Buick Electra 225 or entry-level Cadillac.
