Simon all your cards are fabulous 💖
The shaker card! Thank you for showing such an easy technique. Sometimes I overthink shaker cards, and holds me back from just making them.
Simon I liked them all, so hard to choose. What is the pen with the rubber end called, please.
Simon, none of your fans is perfect. It can be a bit intimidating when the crafters we watch are always perfect and always make perfect cards. Think of us as friends who are here to enjoy whatever you have to teach and who want you to share your imperfections. Laugh about them and we’ll laugh along with you.
This, Simon. Exactly this! ❤
I couldn't agree more with the above comment. No one is perfect and sharing experiences, mistakes and good advice is what makes us learn. Making cards is not easy, just have fun because we enjoy ur great ideas.
We all have times when we are just not feeling it and taking a break can be a good thing. You shouldn’t worry about being perfect because none of us are. Thank you for all that you do. 🥰💕
You aren't even done and I have so many tips from this video already. Thank you
Simon.... as you’ve heard before.... perfection is overrated. You have made a career out of your creativity and love for what you do. Out of that, you inspire all of us out here in crafty land, to reach further and use what we have been gifted with.... whether small or extreme . I know it must be difficult to come up with ideas that are new... but when I look at what you do, you really have done that all along. Your line, your creative ideas... have touched many! We all have that little dude called “mojo” that sneaks away from us at times and we have to go searching for him again.... but please know that you are gifted and talented... and no matter what you come up with....you have inspired someone! Consider me another very proud crafty mom! Do what you do... it’s enough. Oh! Before I forget! I loved both card ideas! Not time consuming which I need now! Lol! I think the stag is a prefect masculine idea! Ok. Now I’m done. Thank you and have a very Merry Christmas! 💕🙋♀️🎄
I love the deer shaker card. Very creative!
Beautiful shaker card. I wouldn't have thought of using an animal shape.
I agree with Xenobia Foxclaw, we are not perfect. I
Love ur videos because you don’t “act” perfect and show us ur mistakes. we are your online friends and you can feel comfortable with us and still teach us a lot!
When I was getting a Master's degree in German and English literature, I developed a writer's block. It was because I was a perfectionist and wanted the papers I had to write not only well-researched, but also eloquently written. I got out of this by not worrying how it was written, but just getting my research and thoughts down on paper. Once I was done with that process I began to revise. When I had finished that, I was amazed how well my paper was written. I have learned since I began to craft that the same principle applies for the creative process. When making a card or a wreath or an arrangement (which is what I do), you just have to do it, just start somewhere and keep going. The ideas will begin to come, and before you know you will have created something that you are totally pleased with. So, Simon, when you feel the Muse has left you, just take that first step, and the rest will come :).
I couldn’t imagine a deer silhouette could actually look beautiful.
Really liked both cards. The vignetting is a good tip and I liked that you used 3 different colored sequins for the shaker. I have not seen anyone do that before and I thought it added to the overall look of the card. I also liked that you just doubled up the foam tape. That seems easier than folding it in half. A great tip. Also liked the dimension on the poinsettia and use of lunar paste instead of gem for center is a great idea -adds shine without bulk. Love that lunar paste! I am going to order the plaid stamp. It seems very versatile. I make loads of mistakes on almost every single card I make. It is refreshing to see when others make mistakes too and how they fix those mistakes or what they do to still utilize and still turn out a beautiful card. Remember that next time you feel the need to be “perfect”. I think a lot of people like Cathy Zielske because she is brave enough to show her mistakes and laugh about it and still turn out gorgeous cards. The mistakes is where the learning is at-not the “perfect” cards.
I enjoy card making VERY MUCH.
I like paper, scissors, glue, etc. I like COLORS and coloring A LOT.
But….inking really challenges me so much that I avoid it.
Well -- you showed how to use inks on die cuts and the plaid background ANNNND -- I am now feeling more grounded to give it a try.
Thinking too much - that is my life in many MANY things.
Thank you for all the preparations to provide your tutorials. I know it takes a lot.
Thank you for sharing your skills and talents to help us learn and grow as we develop ours - and -- to inspire us to CREATE!
Thanks for the great hints with the foam tape and using a plastic sleeve instead of acetate.
These cards are stunning! Your videos are always great, just continue doing what you want, because your love of the craft always comes through. ❤️
Thank you for sharing your talent here on UA-cam. Your tips and tricks for creating hand crafted cards are most helpful. Sadly, I'm not able to pick a fav card. They are both good looking cards!
That deer shaker is hands down my fave. Both cards are fabulous (as usual). I purchased the plaid builder stamp when it came out. I think it was worth every penny!
You might have had to take a creative break, BUT wow you came back strong! These cards are just Beautiful!!
Great card tips. I loved the shaker tips.
Just beautiful
Simon, I love your videos. You are so clear in your teaching with no umming and aahing or waffling, and your cards are always fantastic. Keep doing what you do so well. It doesn’t have to be perfect 😊
Great cards. Always original. 🎉
Great cards, Simon!!
Watercolored stripes look fantastic. Sometimes simple is best! Happy Holidays! ❤
Simon take whatever time you need ❤We do miss you but then you came back with fabulous ideas!!! I love the idea of using different dies for shaker cards and using the embossing powder! 🤗 Fabulous cards!
Great video. I always find your tips helpful. Love the shaker card and picking a shape one would not normally think of has me going thorough my dies rethinking them. Nice use of the total ink on the stamp by misting resulting awesome look for the next card. Enjoy your Holidays and all your fans, we will be watching for more from you.
Simon, i can’t choose.. I love both cards! I appreciate that you take the time to teach us these techniques step by step. When you have a block, do not overthink it. And If you make a mistake, that’s fine too… handmade cards don’t have to be perfect! Just breathe and all will be fine.
Only you know what you wanted it to look like. Creativity has no mistakes.
I love both of them!! If you ever struggle for video ideas, go back to the basics. I'm new to all of this, and I have been struggling to find videos that don't assume you know about the techniques or tools available. Hot foil is a great option. I'm going to start my search now to find out what it is.
Simon, I just found you and you are amazing. I have liked and subscribed to you and will be following you on a regular basis. Please note you were awesome. Don’t stress the small stuff.
Thanks for the tip about using the Embossing Buddy on the edges of the foam tape before you add it to the shaker card! I was trying to add it after, and it wasn't always successful because of the angle. My fave is the reindeer shaker!
Lovely card.
I misplace acetate all the time! I missed you the past few weeks, but you’re smart to take some time off!
I would love to see your take on 5 x 7 cards.
Love the cards.
Thank you for sharing
I’m waiting eagerly for the plaid builder stamp I ordered last week. I really like the card with the poinsettias but the deer shaker card is nice too. My style would be to add some small holly leaves and berries to it.
You're ideas are always so creative! It's great to have a strong work ethic, but be too self-critical. And if your business is getting too big for you to handle by yourself, maybe you can hire social media hurus or virtual assistants to take some of the "other" stuff so you can focus on what you love.erry Christmas!
The deer card you made is simply beautiful! I love how you brought in the shape of the deer for the window and didn't over complicate your design. Thank you for your great tips!
thank you so much Simon for your tips and can you tell me what kind of common paper used specifically cuz ive been struggling for ages to ind the best one
I would love to see you do a collab with Cathy Zielski.
Love it!
Hi Simon. I’ve been watching your videos because I’d like to get started making cards. I would like to start with cards for Christmas. However, I’m a little overwhelmed with all the “stuff” involved. Can you please tell me where I can finds a beginner Christmas project using basic tools? This way I’ll have a foundation and build on that. I have a ton of scrapbook tools I used when my kids were little that might be helpful as well
I never fail to learn something from you! Never thought to powder the edges of the foam tape. Great tip! No more stuck sequins! Thanks for sharing. Love both cards.
You can use qtip with baby powder it's cheap and last forever
Hi Simon! Thank you for showing us different ways to get more from our supplies. I wouldn't have thought about using the deer for a shaker card!
Loved both of your cards.
Never second guess yourself, Simon. Your videos are so much fun because of your honest and fun personality. You are one of the few that I am subscribed to and I always learn something new from you! Keep these great videos coming!
Love it
Have you ever used shrinky dinks for shaker cards?
Simon, we missed you. We don't expect you to be perfect. It is just fun to watch you to create on the go!!!
Great video Simon! I have to try that shaker with the stag die set. And I’m loving the black platinum 6 machine 🥰👍.
Here’s another tip - keep your large 3M foam tape roll in a 10x13 ziploc bag at all times. As it takes time to finish the roll. But it’ll stay fresh - meaning no yellowing and retain a strong hold 😉👍
Hi Simon - sometimes you have to back away from what you're doing so you can get the creative juices flowing again. I find that I come back stronger and more creative. I have been on a Simon Hurley UA-cam kick lately, which energizes me! I always learn something new. So thanks for the help - I really enjoyed this video!
Love the cards. Thanks for those tips - sometimes I forget to do the tone-on-tone ink. So nice. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Simon, Both cards are so pretty. I've never used plaid before but I think I need to give it a try! When you were doing the poinsettia, I thought "oh, those circles need to be yellow," but the lunar paste was the perfect touch. I am glad you are back. I always enjoy what you have to show us.
Great cards Simon! My favorite was the last one-that you added your paste to. So glad to see you back❣ I would love to see more videos with your Lunar paste- I LOVE that stuff!!!!
I look forward to your videos! I bet you could even create a category of "Oldies, but Goodies" and re-make an old video!
Reviewing a favorite technique, color scheme, stamp set of yours, etc. If Subscribers have bought a stamp set of yours and you create with it again, we too would feel inspired to use it! I also like to watch card creations with monochromatic color schemes. Love your channel.🩵🩵🩵
No one knows how many shaker cards I've tried to just to trash them!!! Your tips are so appreciated! I've gone through so many creator blocks this year; to the point I made only 2 or 3 personalized cards and put all my Christmas supplies away. Got to take them out again, because you've made this look so much easier. I love when artists reveal they too have blocks but forge through. You're an inspiration to all of us. GOD BLESS!
Hi Simon…when you show only perfection, I start wondering what’s wrong with me! Why can Simon do this without any problem, while I struggle! So please share the imperfection!! ❤❤❤❤
Rudolf lives!
2 gorgeous cards & I love the tone on tone plaid background as well as the buck/stag die cut for a shaker. I think this is a perfect masculine card & I need them for sure. Sorry, I'm not coming up with any techniques for you to share. But I always enjoy your videos & love the way you share with us!
Simon, you are such a good teacher! Thank you for the tip of adding anti static powder to the edges of the tape and the window. I never thought of that! I enjoy watching you. Thank you so much! Happy holidays🤩
Thank you for sharing the tip about powdering the edge of the foam tape on shaker cards!
I also like the idea of using your stash to create shaker cards!! Thank you for sharing your awesome ideas!!😍
Simon, good for you for taking time for yourself! These cards are stunning! I always enjoy your tips and products. I love the plaid stamp and lunar pastes; they are so versatile.
I loved the tip about anti static powder!! I don’t know how I’ve missed that before.
I have anxiety and perfection issues. We imperfect people need to unite and support one another. We’d have a much better world. ❤😂❤
I love both cards, but I’m a flower person, so the poinsettia is my favorite.
Love your videos. Great tricks, too; especially putting the powder on the edges of the foam tape. Take care of you ~ looking forward to your next video ~ even your short ones. 🥰
Glad to see you back. Yes, do not overthink. Everyone needs break from time to time. We are a caring and understanding community and we are all far from perfect. LOL. But this is a perfect video for me as I hope to make shaker cards for my grandkids for Christmas and I hardly ever make shaker cards. I like the reindeer.
I love your tip with the embossing buddy and the doubled foam tape! Awesome, ty!!
Very nice cards Simon. I'll be making something similar for birthday cards. Thanks so much. BTW. Pamper yourself when you are feeling blue.
I would like to see more videos on stencils, specifically layering stencils. - I love watching your videos and this one is no exception. My shaker cards have not turned out the way I wanted them to. You shared great tips and I can't wait to try them.
OMG, Simon - both are excellent, but I'm particularly in awe of your deer shaker!!! GORGEOUS!!!!!! P.S. - thank you for sharing your creativity with us! I get where you're coming from on pressuring yourself - I often have a hard time making a card I'd like to just because I don't think it'll turn out "good enough," all the while missing the point of why I'm creating in the first place (to let the recipient know they matter and to brighten their day!). THANK YOU for brightening our day! (P.S.S... even as a pink-loving girl, I have to say I'm not particularly fond of those plates, either! 😆)
MERRY CHRISTMAS and may God bless you and your loved ones this season and all year through!
I understand exactly where you are coming from… we are our own worst enemies. I love your honesty and vulnerability in admitting your struggles to us. Difficult to do? Absolutely! But I’m guessing you felt a bit lighter afterwards. Also, remember Mario’s words to Tim, “Get Over Yourself!” We love YOU Simon, not the technique or the idea or the next new product. I appreciate and value you as a person who just happens to be insanely talented. Any Judgety McJudge or Negative Nellaroo isn’t worth a second thought! Big crafty hugs and blessings from Ky.
Thank you for the video! Keep them coming. I overthink things too, so I understand. I would tell you not to worry about it and just go for gold, but if you're like me, you'll still worry... 😆. Just know that we don't expect perfection. We expect imperfection, and that makes us feel better about our imperfections!
Sometimes the „easy“, „obvious“ tips are the real revelations: I‘ve known about using the antistatic powder on the foam tape - and there has been a fair amount of moaning and cursing as I tried to get the excess of the shaker window, I can assure you :) And the solution is so simple: powder the tape BEFORE sticking it down! Thank you so much for sharing this tip, Simon! Kind regards from Germany, Nicola
Welcome back! Great video! Love both the cards - very sophisticated! Appreciate the wealth of tips as well! I also appreciated the video about different ways to use lunar paste. I would appreciate some tips on how to use lunar place on a large background stamp. Put a thicker layer down so won’t dry too fast on stamp? Or? Maybe have a tub of water next to where I stamp before I start. Anyway, appreciate your sharing your creativity & your clever tips & hacks! Encouraging!!! Thanks a lot!
Simon I’ve watched you from the very beginning and you are still giving me tips every time I watch!!! Loved the shaker tips… I would never have thought to use the cute deer for a shaker and lived him! The water color bouquet was so pretty!! Merry Christmas!!!😊
All your videos are sooo inspiring and informative. Can you do more plaid demos, mixing in the pinstripe . I think this will create some great effects. Thank you 🌍 🇬🇧 🇬🇧🇬🇧🌍
I love how you explain all the steps! Cards turned out looking amazing especially with the tone-on-tone plaid backgrounds! Btw, I’m also an overthinker so I can totally relate 🙃
I lost some of my mojo recently too! But just remind yourself....it's just paper! LOL! I mean really, if it's "messed up", you have permission to toss it and start over. 😊 Your cards always turn out awesome! I love your peel apart stamps...keep those coming 👍🏼
Well Simon you've done it again! you've totally blown it out of the park. I am so glad you are the first person I have ever known to use something to eliminate the static and everything sticking to the tape. I've been using baby powder for years but since you need the static powder anyhow..... what a brilliant idea! Always learning something from you and I love to watch you work...love them ALL!
Hahaha! Gotta tell you about my first and only shaker card. We’ll, everything was set to go. I poured GLITTER onto the acetate and covered it with the paper. I quickly took it in to show my husband. He picked it up and all the glitter dumped down his shirt and into his lap. Lolololol. I realized that not only should I have not used glitter, but the adhesive needed to be continuous without interruption. Lol. I’ve been too scared to try it again. I make myself crack up all the time. I really think I’m funny. Ha!
I love that plaid you made out of your pads. Thanks for the techniques I have been having trouble keeping them in the area without losing some I think making the foam tape thinner will really help. Tfs. I LOVE that card and plaid.
Hey Simon! Thank you for sharing your awesome cards and tips!!!💖 Merry Christmas!!!
Hello Simon....it's good to see you! Just be yourself and everything else will fall into place. I enjoy and learn from all your videos.😁💙
I love both of these cards. I especially loved the Stag shaker card. It gives me an idea for a Christmas card. Thank you for sharing. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Have you tried a penny card/spinner card? So fun and the movement in the card is fun too! I love Xmas or Easter cards where the bunny spins or what ever you like spins across the card. It's an older idea and I don't remember where I learned it but maybe you can bring it back to life! 💓🐰💓
wow they are beautiful cards!!!
I think we all over think what we are doing, -- what if it's not perfect?? what if it's not liked, what if... what if.... but life is not about what ifs it's about what is... what it is.. is terrific!! people will never notice what you notice, they just know you made it for them!! we all know you make these videos to help us craft better!! we don't judge if it is perfect, we don't care!! it's made with the thought of helping us!!
Hi Simon…both cards are gorgeous…just love your tips, ideas and watching the way you create your masterpieces…you are such a joy to watch and so talented…thanks again for all you teach us and sharing your inspiration 💙💙💙
Hi simon, the cards are beautiful as usual. Thanks for sharing all yours tips with us. We all make mistakes. Don't be so hard on yourself. I am gradually getting your products in Australia. Can you use the foil plates on a go press. Have a great day. ♥️
Ha, I always forget where I have my acetate is stored and all assembly comes to a stop while I search. I have those CD envelopes and never thought to use them in a pinch. Thanks for that tip. I love all the tips and both cards are outstanding. You gave me some ideas for using object dies, tea cup, tree, truck, etc., to use for shaker cards. I usually cut circles, squares or ovals. The stag is such a nice treat. I'm going to try the technique for the background of the second card as I like that "not perfect" look and the minute you added the poinsettias, they brought all the elements together to compliment one another. Thank you for sharing.
Great, beautiful cards. Love these ideas. Sometimes we try too hard to make our creations perfect but we should take the to enjoy our hobby. Handmade and therefore unique to us is the way to go. Merry Christmas to all! X
Gorgeous cards Simon!!! Always unique & beautiful. Love the deer for those guys in our lives!!!
Simon, I liked the plaid shaker card. Great tip with the anti static tool and the doubling of 3M tape. And, I am not a huge fan of those videos that show that perfect card. I want to learn how I can use those scraps to fix my mistakes. Thank you…I love your videos and look forward to your next one.
Simon, I love your videos! Keep doing exactly what you do and just the way you do it! It’s your way and that’s what makes you so great!!!
Simon, These cards were so nice. My Hubby & I make 250+ Christmas cards a yr & the 2nd card would be so easy to make in bulk. I am an over thinker too & sometimes you do need a break to give your brain some time off.
Great tips! Love your tutorials and I learn something (often LOTS of somethings) every time. Thank you.
I think you asked for ideas...? What about showing different ways to use flocking. Or have you tried yet the iridescent flosses?
I have been following you for a long time and you always have wonderful tips, techniques and you create beautiful art. 😀
I consider your videos to be outstanding! If you included a bit more imperfection then we would just be seeing more of your personal charm. It's obvious that you put your heart and soul into making great content.
Hi, you are too hard on yourself Simon! We all make mistakes but sometimes the best results come from a mistake or shall we say, unintended results. Just play and have fun and take us along for the journey and hopefully we will all learn something too. Thanks
Hi Simon. I like both cards. Take the stress off and just do you. Relax, enjoy and just have fun.
Oh that is a GREAT idea with the anti static bag! I am a major overthinker as well but your followers want to see your talents(and you are) not perfection!
Thank you for the inspiration! I just got the ink and plaid stamping pad! Came out really nice. I would love to show you how it came out.
You always do a great job on your videos. I know it’s hard, because I’m guilty of it too, but try not to overthink. You have a tribe that is cheering you on and looking forward to seeing what you create next.
I own bth the plaid and pinstripe background! Both are really great! Highly recommend.
