It’s been 133 days since Harvey Weinstein was outed as a serial abuser and harasser of women. Nearly every day since that story broke, more men in more professions have been accused of, admitted to, or denied shocking acts of aggression, exploitation, harassment, and prejudice toward women in the workplace.
No company is immune - including VICE. It has affected our workplace too.
Here and everywhere, people are doing what they always do to make sense of things: talking. To capture the kinds of conversations happening in America’s workplaces, we gathered lawyers, actors, technologists, construction workers, and hospitality workers, and asked them about the new reality of #MeToo: Women, Men, and Work.
VICE News spoke to teenage women actors to discuss the future of the industry where #MeToo began. They said they didn’t expect things to change quickly on set - or in the wider world.
”It’s sort of interesting when I've talked to other male actors who are my age about how shocked they are,” said 16 year-old Rowan Blanchard, who feels she is “immune” at this point. Blanchard, known for her starring role on the TV series Girl Meets World, has acted since she was five years old. “I fantasize about being shocked," she said.
“I had an instance where I witnessed somebody I worked with inappropriately touched someone else that I worked with who was a minor. I reported it privately to our showrunner,” Blanchard recounted, adding that she asked for her complaint to be anonymous. “The next day, nobody talked to me, and said that I was trying to ruin this person's career.”
The women also said that the #MeToo movement has put pressure on people to divulge private - and sometimes traumatic - experiences.
“I don’t shame any women who don’t say anything about it. It’s not their fault at all,” said Chloe Bailey, 19 years old, who along with her sister Halle, 17 years old, produces music under the name CHLOE X HALLE.
The Bailey sisters, who recently began acting, each participated in the panel. Neither said they had experienced or witnessed harassment, but they said the movement had instilled a deep sense of connection with other women in the industry.
Emma Kenney, the 18 year-old star of the TV series Shameless, opened up about difficulty in her private life, telling the panel she had been sexually assaulted twice during the past year and a half. Kenney said each instance occurred not on set, and outside of work. But Kenney said she felt compelled to share her story because she doesn’t want other women to feel alone.
“That's something I also want to say,” Kenney said. “That it's not always going to be a work environment.”

i love hearing these ladies curse especially Rowan. because it’s a stigma where disney actors and actresses are supposed to be super innocent and not grown up and i just love that they’re not putting up that persona of being fake and innocent. they’re just being who they are and being not what people view them as and what they think they should be
it’s so refreshing
Sameeee
Yeah literally, when Rowan started being artistic and dressing more hyper sexual people were mad as if she wasn’t 10 years old anymore. She’s such an inspiration
right!'
Chloe & Halle were on Disney too
It bothers me you guys stated Emma was on Roseanne but not Shameless
Bad Karma I think they’re putting down their most recent movies/shows.
THANK U
And Rowan on Wrinkle in time and not girl meets world.
I forgot she was on Roseanne
They cannot list every single role they have ever played so they list the most recent so after watching this you will watch the show or movie
I love how they all reached out to Chloe when she started crying.
*started lying 🤥 🙄 😒
The girl from shameless hit the head on the nail when she said that it happens everywhere and in all industries not just Hollywood. I am a female nurse and it happens in the healthcare industry on a daily basis. And just in real life situations that have nothing to do with work. I so appreciate her saying that it wasn’t just in Hollywood because it’s not. Women and men it is everywhere!
Yes! Just because it doesn’t happen to famous people doesn’t mean it’s not real 😩
Corruption is everywhere I don’t know why people can’t understand this. It can happen in school, hospitals etc
Especially on the screen.
Hollywood for over 100 years has always been the most discriminating, racist, and sexist industry in America by far. No other industry has been nearly as racist as hollywood, beginning back in 1915 with the incredibly racist film Birth of a Nation and continuing throughout the 1920's to the 1950's with it's depiction of non whites. Birth of a Nation rejuvenated a dying KKK at the time and resulted in a massive escalation of racism and violence against blacks in America. Asians in movies were always demonized as evil and blacks as dumb. Of course sexism occurs throughout society. However no other industry had the casting couch like hollywood, the abuse of women by the powerful elites in Hollywood is unmatched in any other industry. This video is a sham attempt to defend Hollywood.
How do get harassed being nurse. They have laws protecting nurses in many states. Also what type of harassment are you talking about

This is one of the best and most mature responses to the whole movement, it was very well rounded. I don't even think the people that disliked this video even watched it.
the audience of this video is clearly mostly misogenic men, clearly the profile of people who live on the internet.
I would rather kill myself before i watch this crap to the end
CountJimbo I'm a female, a victim, and this video still annoys me. It's good that it is being discussed but I'll TRULY care when male abuse vicitms get their time to talk and speak up. Also when pedophilia in the industry is discussed at the level this is then I'll care even HARDER! there are plenty more corey haims and corey feldmans in the industry and for these boys to not have their time to speak, but instead women just CONSTANTLY be the face of abuse, is disgusting. If you're against abuse BE AGAINST ALL OF IT!! but that wouldnt fit the narrative which, despite you being dense, you should know is "feminism and all men are bad and creepy". I've been following rowan specifically for a long time now and trust me, she's a clear man hater and looks for any opportunity
I'm a female and a victim and this video doesn't annoy me. But I completely agree about the pedophilia problem in the industry, and when kids come forward that word should be used more because when its not, these young professionals are just seen as adults. Before the #metoo movement I always thought the "open secret" was the pedophilia problem, but now thats getting kind of brushed under the rug when I think it should be the number one priority.
Pedophilia exists. It has existed in Hollywood. But just like the men who abuse women, it is rare. Quite rare in the larger picture. In society and in Hollywood. It's rare. Not saying we shouldn't try and eradicate it completely.. just saying, easier said than done. It's a complex societal problem. You need to deal with that reality, that it's, one, rare and two, more complex then we'd like to believe, unfortunately.
Notice how they NEVER cut each other off😌
Really good. Rowan is so articulate and smart, such a important topic to witness.
Right?! I freaking love her! What a talented, strong, intelligent, and beautiful human being!
Sweeney van Lamsweerde was sadley she’s isn’t as much this days
It's such a pity his focus is so narrow. He could be using his voice to talk about endemic sexual slavery of women without a voice throughout the developing world. I hope his next book focuses on the trafficking of young women into sexual servitude beyond the L.A. Zip code. Harvey Weinstein is a monster, but if you want to know about the real kings of the monsters...just listen to the Hunting Warhead podcast to hear about the real victims of sexual exploitation.
@@AnthonyMonaghan just in case anyone sees this comment and thinks that they might not be a "real" survivor of SA, don't listen to this guy. What happened to you is real. You are real. The environment of your trauma does not invalidate it.
Once again generation Z is proving to be eloquent and intelligent. Very interesting and good interview about young actresses in all this. And I relate to a lot of what they’re saying myself!!
they are not gen z, they are fringe left gen Z
Parallaxis what’s the difference?
i don’t know their ages, but i think they’re late millennials.
Jessie Hoset they're Gen Z people born after 1996 are considered Gen Z or Post-Millennials now it used to be up until 2004 to be considered a millennial but they changed it
Parallaxis bro they are gen z esp Rowan some millennials are as old as mid 30's
It's so weird seeing this shameless actor so grown up, crazy
I was thinking that. I hate her voice though. She was my least fav on the show
C Jo which one are you referring to?
I like her but tbh she has the voice of a 50 year-old smoker.
I got the vibe that Rowan was getting annoyed by her throughout the interview.
Cube The nations tinder Emma Kenney she plays Debbie on shameless
Chloe is such a sweetheart. You can hear her fighting back the tears as she talks.
A lot of people are such haters towards rowan blanchard, but im really rooting for her, her growth, and her success. she seems like such a sweetheart
I tried educating my brothers and telling them a few situations that happened to me to and from school. Not anything too much just catcalls and older men trying to prey on me or invade my personal space. They gaslighted me and said those situations never happened, i just wanted to let them know these situations do happen. Ended up leaving the convo pretty hurt.
I’m sorry that happens to you hope you feel better
Talking to a guy about sexual assault is sometimes not gonna work in your favor. Most boys never experience it, and we are all taught to internalize pain. The thing is women are opposite, they can talk about emotional trauma for days, men just keep it bottled up. Men and women aren't the same.
@@jahzealjr6810 Society tells men that they should bottle up their emotions. That is how toxic masculinity evolved so naturally because men are constantly told to hide their emotions and not cry because they wouldn't "fit" into societal standards.
I’m not open about this, but I wanna say it. When I was 12, I was I inappropriately touched while acting at this summer camp thing by one of the camp councilors. There. It’s terrifying, and the owners knew that he did this not only to me, but other girls. Yet they kept letting him work there. It makes me physically sick knowing that I’m not the only child he’s done that to. I felt the need to keep quiet, and not say anything or else I would tarnish their reputation. I was victim shamed, called out, made fun of, etc etc. We need to handle this better, and even if we’re becoming more open with talking about this, I still feel like there is such a long way to go. Thank you for making this and giving these girls a voice.
Teach me dad How were you victim shamed or called out etc if you kept quiet? That doesn't make sense.
Thank you for your testimony.
3rd Street Pictures they probably felt the need to stay quiet after the fact of victim shaming
Did you tell your parents.? If you did then blame your parents for not doing anything.
If you didn’t (I doubt I would at that age) I’m sorry to hear that.
But I think you are not telling the whole story, no small company is going to allow someone who does that work there. If they knew, he would be gone. Well maybe unless it was the owner.
I'm really sorry that happened to you and it takes alot of strength to put it out there. ❤❤
I love what Rowan said about boys being "so shocked". I am older than these ladies by a decade, and not an actress, and yet I had the same experience. When talking about the female experience with men sometimes it truly feels like we live our daily lives in different, parallel realities.
I've been going through the comment section. Let's get a few things straight. For those saying that these girls should just avoid the industry if they're scared of being harassed: is it not better to sort out the problem than ignore it? And what about the young girls who aren't aware.of what can go on behind the scenes? Do we just let them go on and be harassed and not sort out the issue from it's core?
For those saying that they're being over dramatic and acting like victims: these things do happen not only in that industry but everywhere for every girl.
And those saying that vice is just hating on all men and that men experience harassment as well: these cases happen most often with men and this is the key issue they are dealing with in this video. Yes men also experience horrible things from other men and women and yes it needs to be spoken about more. But that isn't the focus of this video they are talking to young women in the industry about their experiences. Just because they are speaking out against an issue doesn't mean that they are saying that only their problem exists. I'm sure that these girls are aware that men also experience harassment it's just not the topic of the video.
And of course they are not hating all men in the industry there are a lot of very respectful intelligent men but here again they are focusing on the men that are less respectful and abuse of their power.
i HATE the fact that women are expected to just "ignore and avoid" the whole world because others cant control themselves. they dont want to fix the problem so instead they make us feel like WE should hide ourselves
Ok but who else was shook asf when Rowan cursed😂lmao I’m not saying she can’t because she was “a Disney star” but it just caught me off guard 💀

Why all the dislikes? Is exposing sexual misconduct/ harassment and wanting things to change/improve a bad thing? Somebody educate me on what I'm not getting.....

The interview is a bit stilted, however I am not sure if that would explain so many dislikes. Though it could just be carry over from people who are still annoyed by the Jordan Peterson interview.
No problem, Daniel,..happy to help. Just read my comment above. It's long but you might learn something. ;)
Amyas Lou What does transgenders in the media have to do with victims of abuse coming forward?
Calling it “harassment “ is kind of downplaying it, really. Guys in the entertainment world are expected to assimilate into the idea that young women like the ones above are a job perk.
Rowan Blanchard is one of those smart Disney actresses!

Okay, so while I agree with this-I disagree with the insistence that young women are the only victims. Tell Corey Haim and Feldman that. This conversation NEEDS TO INCLUDE MEN. And I'm saying this as a woman.
There are young men in the industry (allegedly Zach Efron is a victim too) that are also preyed upon by predators. This doesn't just affect us ladies. This is an abuse of power problem, not just a gender issue, and unless these criminals are held accounted for-it will continue.
WORD, sister, PREACH!!!
C Jo The only comment worth it on this video

They couldn't care less at all, unfortunately. Today's current sexist feminism is all about empowering females, not "fighting for equality." This is one of the main reasons why we're already extremely sick and tired of this sexist damaging "movement" that is doing no good for society.
this really scares me. I want to be an actress so bad, i’ve loved the art of it since I was young, and it really scares me that this is something I will have to deal with and think about if I get to the point where i’m on a set filming a tv show. the world really shouldn’t be like this :(

Feel empowered to complain about things you agreed to do? I hope not. Or are you one of those Louis Ck accusers..... if you consent to it, don’t complain about.if you feel pressured into it, that is your problem, you could have walked away. You don’t see murderers say they were pressured into killing people and then get away with it.
And you “feel” empowered. Feeling does not mean your are in that state or that something actually happened. Fact should be greater then feelings, but in this backwards world we life in.....
What have you achieve with your powers ?

This is my first time saying this to my one but I was sexually harassed when I was in elementary school by someone my parents allowed to board at my house till they got their feet on the ground. i remember once he climbed on top of me and stuck his tongue down my throat in front of my siblings. None of them said anything and my older brother is still trying to be super nice to me to make up for not doing anything. I couldn’t even tell my parents because we are super religious and I didnt want to be looked at differently. Karma has its way and the man died from cancer late last year. Everyone is treating him like he was the best human in the world and I can’t even say anything because dead men can’t speak.
you’re so strong 💞
i hope you have the strength to one day speak out but it’s always your choice

I don't think a lot of people understands that when Rowen said she told the showrunner at the end of set about what she saw
The doesn't mean it was at the end of the show it usually means at the end of the day or then of filming at one set

This comment section is TRASH. Holy shit and further proves everything that victims speak out against (victim blaming; not taking responsibility;people not taking them serious which is part of the reason why so many women stay silent.)
Taking responsibility works both ways.
Try living in a man's shoes and being held accountable. Men are the ones who don't want to be near women or alone yet women try to act like they are the ones afraid knowing well that the system is on their side. Playing the victim for attention not only shows weakness shows your childish mentalities. Women are allowed to act like children with no accountability men should be treating them accordingly.
Just look at the responses to your comment (actually, I hope you don't)... It's doesn't even shock or surprise me anymore when I read all of these women haters feeling brave enough online to let their real feelings show

It took you till now to realize this?
The west has invaded every country in the last half century, lives off war, propped up puppet heads of states, over inflated valued paper currency, and the USA is 20 trillion in debt, but *this* comment section is your "AHA!" momemt?
Everything you said is 100% true. I think about it all the time now that I moved out of the states and observing from afar but, I don't know... I guess it's kinda like I'd REALLY REALLY REALLY like to assume that at least in a few things, like what they're talking about in this video, that we'd all agree this is bullshit and it needs to stop. Like that's an obvious benchmark I assumed we passed already in whatever intelligence we've become after however many million years or so we've collectively lived or even in the past I don't know, 15 years just to be nice but nope. Nope nope nope. Keep being proven wrong and reminded again how scarily absolutely fucked we are.
Adonis Warchild and non-western states are better? They do the same shit but worse. Communism killed over a 100 million people. Non-western states are incredibly unstable and can break out into civil war at any minute. Their governments are more corrupt and don’t care about there people. Non-western states have horrible human rights violations and worse oppressions than western states. Yes, I recognize that western states have done very bad things but today they are definitely a force for good rather than bad.

Why are there so many dislikes on this video?
Cause there's no men. Men can be a victim of this stuff too. Also their saying stupid crap like "I can't be alone with a man anymore".
Some people are disliking the video, because they feel upset that this is happening. Others are pure assholes
Popular did you not care too even acknowledge Martin's reason above.
I tell ya the most sexist and most racist people are not Whites nor Men in America, that's because the media(like Vice/HBO) hammer it down that only white men can be racist/sexist(Despite the fact that stating this crap is the very definition of Racism/Sexism) but who cares about Definitions and reality in this world.
If you want to know about Equality and Inequality, Change the Pronouns(You know that word the Left think they have a Patent on)
Now change what Martin is quoting too
"I can't be along with Blacks or Women anymore" and realize how Sexist/Racist that is, yet when it's said about one race/sex, you are ok with it.
Thats not only Racist/Sexist but it's Hypocritical as well.
Thats why I'm thumbing this bullshit down.
Who said "I can't be alone with a man anymore"? I didn't catch that in this video. The closest I heard to that was when Rowan Blanchard said, "There's that creepy man ... I don't want to be alone in a room with him." But that's a hypothetical about a particular man displaying "creepy" behavior, not some statement about not being alone with any men. But maybe I missed the part you're referencing. Timestamp?
Count Floyds Chiller Horror Theatre 3000 😂
Rampant? Or exposed? Is it worst now? Or are we more self conscious about it and now exposing them? In short, is it a "growing" problem or a decreasing problem?
This said, great video
Yan Thériault Exposed is a good word. I don't think that it's growing...but I'm not sure it's gotten better yet either.
I think we are on the tip of seeing a decrease of the problem. Probably more people will expose and it will seem like there are more agression, but I am very optimistic about the era we are living in and the impact of the different movements
Yan Thériault Agreed. I think it'll take some time for change to really impact the workplace. But I'm proud there are young women like these who feel it's important to speak up. I'm hoping people of any gender will feel the need to say something when they see or experience something. I think that's a good start to something long-term.
Leah Weidman
What defines better to you? Care to share? How on earth would you/do you know if it's better or not? By what marker? Just curious.
These are some really thought provoking questions and I think they bring up a good point.. are we mute to it because it is rampant and we see a new story about it every morning? or are we just not being exposed to an issue that has been around forever but hardly talked about? I hope this movement really does make a change for the better and hope people in society can try to treat men and women like people and not objects.
I can’t believe that people are leaving negative comments under this video. This are well spoken mature young ladies who have grown up in the industry and now are fighting back and speaking up in their day to day work lives. Most young actresses feel trapped at this age but with allegations coming out they are protecting each other? No more creeps and perverts on set or having careers. I fully believe this industry will change once they are in their 30’s if they keep on reporting and refusing to work with certain people. This is a new decade you can’t threaten to “ruin someones career or say you’ll never work in this town again” there are safe people to work this who won’t put up with harassment
this is such a good conversation over all and i love how the room didn't feel at all slanted in any way
Saw Rowan's part on tiktok today so felt the need to come watch the whole interview. Geez strong & brave young girls.
rowan is such an idol for me. she‘s maybe half a year older than me and done so muuch. i‘m so proud of her holy schnitzel.
It’s good that it’s actually a topic of discussion now, as well as it actually having awareness. At the end of the day it comes down to the ppl in Hollywood making a change and with all these younger actresses and actors and musicians and etc, with how they think and how they are so willing to fight whatver outcome they get, is what Hollywood needed for this type of change. I hope they encourage other girls and guys to speak out on this (not necessarily what happened to them if they don’t want too or if nothings happened and they wanna help that’s great) and to do something in the moment like actually backing someone up and demand they do something about it .
The bailey sisters have such calming voices I love them!
So well spoken. It always shocks me a bit when I hear some older adults going on about kids and how social media has wrecked the world. It's not perfect, but it also brings conversations like this to the surface. I'm so grateful to have these sources to allow me to hear these voices. It's empowering.
I’m so glad people are finally openly talking about this because it’s a serious problem that’s needs to be solved quickly. Young actresses and actors are being taken advantage of and no one is doing anything about it
I'm currently in highschool, I'm 15 and I have been sexually harassed or assaulted. But when I was younger I did not know that sexual assault was even a thing, I didn't talk about it because I thought it was normal. The very sad thing is most of what happened happened when I was very young, and when I was clearly very vulnerable. Now I try to protect myself but there are still cases where people will make me uncomfortable and people just shrug it off. It's sad
I wonder if sexual harassment is still rampant at the Vice Office in Brooklyn 🤔
I love this, I hope they continue to speak up. We need more actresses and actors who aren’t afraid to say what needs to be said and use their platform as an access to spread awareness.
This was the most powerful thing I've seen in a while. Incredibly amazed at these young actresses and so happy that they are front and center in this video, battling the system that has tried to oppress them since the moment they stepped in front of a camera.
I wanted to watch this with an insightful and serious mindset but I kept losing it over Emma Kenney. Everything she did was like bad day time tv drama. 1:27-2:05
Seeing this was a year ago and seeing how much rowan change is just.....wow
Yeah
How did she change she grew up and changed clothes styles and you don’t know what’s going on in her personal life
It was so inspiring to listen to the younger side of the Me Too movement........i mean not only in the industry, but everywhere, there is this paranoia about men that we can't help but to grow with. It has become so common for parents to say "its not that we don't trust you, we just don't trust the world".....What else can we do if not be scared every time we step out of the house?
I kind of see Dua Lipa in Rowan...
wheres terry crews?
😂😂😂😂
Why am I just finding this out now😭
It was so cute when Halle asked people for tissue for her sister.
ugh i love everyone on this panel and being able to hear their individual views on this, is really refreshing
This is beautiful but sad. I'm so glad that young actresses have finally been given a chance to air their views.
Why doesn't this video have a million views or more, this so important, like what is up with society??
emma is such a force i would cry if she yelled @ me
There was a moment about a month ago where someone had followed me for several blocks and across town. It freaked me out and made me feel extremely uncomfortable. The next day I was talking about it with coworkers and my male (older) coworker looked at me as if I was insane for noticing someone following me and acted as if I was crazy. It’s not just young men that are shocked by these things. Men in general aren’t taught to always be aware of surrounding and generally just aren’t aware of what women go through practically on a daily basis. They are allowed to live in ignorance when women have never been able to because if we put our guard down we might end up a statistic.
wish we could see rowan speak more often. she’s so well spoken
7:09 She got caught up in looking at herself XD
That’s the only thing you got out of this whole entire video?
@@G0dsnm0nst3rs Of course not. This is a heavy video. But there's nothing heavy I can say that hasn't already been said. I found a funny spot. So that's what I felt like commenting. 🤷🏿♀️
Major respect for Rowan, such an amazing public figure and so mature for her age. Thankful for people like her ♡
This to me is so amazing...
Im in a situation where my adopted father sexually abused me for years and no one believed me...
4 days before my 19th birthday he tried again at a family camp with my church, I was sleeping and felt someone touching me, when I saw him he jumped and acted like he was looking for something, I can not explain to you how scared I was, I was paralyzed with fear and started crying because I was surrounded by people who could have helped me, but I didn’t know how to help myself first. My mother, sister, and brother know now too and well they made it very clear that they wanted to fix it within the family, which translates to “let’s just take you, the situation, and your feelings and just disregard them and brush it under the carpet, oh and try not to look at you or mention it so we’re not reminded of it, oh and duh, be mad at you for no apparent reason knowing you have all the right to, is, is that okay with you?”
I can send this pig to jail and it seems to be they forget that, but my God is a just God and I know that they’ll get what they deserve soon enough
how has the situation developed??
were you able to get the support you're family should've given you?
if not, can you get out of there?
This is such a good topic to be talked about with young women in Hollywood who experience situations like this. Young women in the acting world aren’t given the freedom to express themselves or share their thoughts in a manner like this. We rarely get to see the individuality of these girls. VICE doing this, is honestly, amazing. Kudos to you VICE.
So eloquently said by all💜
Some of my favorite female actors and role models it’s nice to see them out of act
I'm so sorry for all of these young women . Nobody should ever have to go through this. I'm glad they are opening up now at such a early time in their career because for generations women have been abused by their employers and it happens for decades before they open up .
Is there a link for this full interview?
And this is just now in my recommendations? Get with the program UA-cam.
I actually remembered the first time I got cat called. I was 12 and these like teenagers yelled "can I get your number" and i yelled "shut up" and they got mad at me
I just can’t imagine what it’s like to be so young and so afraid. You’re already in such an unnatural environment, whether or not it’s something you want or believe you want, and to have one more added stress on a CHILD is insane and really scary.
I've been a fan of all these women for so long it's amazing to them all in the same room talking about this and actually listening to each other and bouncing thoughts and opinions off of one and another.
“A survival technique”✨
This was so interesting and I’m so glad these girls stand up for others and what they believe in, they are so inspiring
wow these young girls are a lot more mature than their older peers etc
This video is so important. Young actresses do and are affected by sexual harrasment in the industry. Listening to what they have to say is vital.
