Lady Gaga's Emotional Speech on Surviving Sexual Assault and Mental Health | ELLE

- It only took one film. Lady Gaga’s turn as Ally in A Star Is Born has made her a bonafide movie star. Her role is generating Oscar buzz and last night in LA, she was honored as one of ELLE’s Women in Hollywood. In her riveting acceptance speech at this year's event, Gaga opened up about her sexual assault, mental illness, and a plea for women to lift up each other’s voices and “beckon the world towards kindness.” “I wanted to take the power back,” she said.

Earlier this week, we celebrated ELLE's 25th annual Women In Hollywood event, and gave credit to 11 women - including Lady Gaga - who push the conversation forward in 2018. Elle is also on the Gaga payroll. An expose needs to be done on the shady side of the biz. Why not write about her many relationships with sexual predators, Elle? How about the many years she worked with Terry Richardson? The song and video she made with RKelly making fun of rape? And what about her projects with Brett Ratner? Seems Elle has a selective memory or has simply decided to throw their journalistic integrity to the side. Also funny is that Gaga only speaks on this issue when she has something to promote.
What about Charlize Theron's speech?
Go fuck yourself, Gaga has been an advocate for mental health since 2011/2012 when she launched her BTW foundation. And has talking bout surviving sexual assault since 2013-14. She campaigned and even made a song for sexual survivors in 2015. Her song with R Kelly has nothing to do with making fun of rape, the song was written after the media made fun of her gaining weight, so the song talks about how the media can do whatever they want with her body, but it won't affect her mind, so once again, kindly go fuck yourself.
@@christopherg313 you sound ignorant as hell and I pray you don't have a daughter and never do.
Incredibly moving speach.. Kindness and mental health... So relevant and progressive. I was diagnosed with the same problem after sexual assault. Lady Gaga said very truthfully what I have been going through. Thank you so much for this speech it makes me feel like I am not alone.
Why the f*** are people laughing? She is being serious and pouring out her heart in sadness.
Some do that when they feel stressed
Earla Weese get a grip on life
Earla Weese do you never get fed up spreading hate? Why not try and understand what she’s been through. I’m sure you’ve at least once in your life time said something you didn’t actually mean, celebrities are human too. You’ve never been here don’t try and assume who she is. US people don’t know how to react to emotions they feel uncomfortable and laugh
there just so immature and disgusting they need to grow up
Jenna Lazaneo most of the time when people laugh in these type of situations it’s because they experienced it themselves and most of the time when people laugh at their own struggles and talk about their problems like it’s a joke they’re NOT okay
BUT I get why you think like that because there’re also some times when people laugh at other people’s struggles because they like that pain but I don’t think it’s like that in this case
@@ErnieKings27 Yeah I agree it is likely just nervous laughter.
I think they were laughing with love.
I was also raped.... last February and right now it is January 2020, and I’ve been suffering depression, anxiety, trauma and it sucks. I told my mom that night and we went to the hospital and I reported it to the police and such, ever since then I had to take medication and get needles to heal and I stopped in June. All the guys who done it that night to me, they’ve been going to court and I have my court date next month, two days After the incident and also in March. I am a survivor, and that night I was told from a person I thought who was my friend, that took me to that place, after 3 hours straight the person took me home and was threatening me saying that if they hear about it, they would go around the school and say I slept with a lot of guys. Also told me to take 3 showers that night, and so I was gonna be quiet but I realized and told myself that no it isn’t right I need to use my power and confess what happened and so I did. I also would’ve been pregnant but I got on some kind of pill that helped me not be pregnant. Which was good and I am good for now but all I know is I won’t be always good, I will get through this. I hope this doesn’t get reported or deleted because I’m saying the truth about what happened to me
Darlene Lmn You are very strong to share your story here, thank you. I hope you continue to grow even stronger from these experiences.
Annac29 thank you.. I appreciate that

Why are they laughing she’s literally talking about how women are so over sexualised she didn’t even want to wear a dress, are they even listening??
Maybe they didn't expect what was coming and thought, that it is going to turn into something funny.
Bella that seems unlikely they laughed at every little thing even when she paused, they are definitely trying to cover up the fact she’s hurting
As she was making her speech The crowd cheers in agreement! I heard no laughing! 🙄

Well said .
I truly admire and like Lady Gaga and her message but i can't understand why she worked with R Kelly after all the sexual misbehavior allegations against him.
@@hihenry22 i think she sees good in people that sometimes shes dose not realize that R kelly is bad well this is my opinion .
I honestly don't think she consciously thought "oh! I'm gonna have this rapist in my song and we are going to make a shocking track that can be misinterpret as a rape song", I think she was naive and she focused on the artist in R Kelly rather than him as the shitty person he is.
She said that DWYW was her love letter to R&B and that she wanted the King of R&B singing in the track. Plus she also said that the main reason why she added R Kelly to her album was beacuse she wanted to surprise her friend and make up artist at the time Tara Savelo, because R Kelly was her favorite artist and Gaga wanted to cheer her up beacuse Savelo was diagnosticated with Lupus.
It's truth she made a huge mistake, not only because R Kelly was involved in DWYW but also beacuse she allowed Terry Richardason to direct a very disturbing video for the song, and to be honest, I'm glad she realized her mistake and that she cancelled the whole thing and her assosiation with both! Not only bacuse they are awful people that don't deserve any kind of recognition, but also because if she had let the world watch that video, that would have been the definitive end of her career.
Imagine what her Oscar acceptance speech would be like?

Honestly, I was never a big Lady Gaga fan. I liked some of her music, but didn't really know much about her. When A Star is Born came out, I went to see it and I was blown away. I truly appreciate her for saying this. Mental Health needs to be discussed and not shamed!! Dealing with Depression is not fun and so many(including myself) are hurting and yet are made to feel shame about it. It's a physiological issue! If someone had Cancer you wouldn't shame them for it. Be kind to everyone around you, you never know what someone is dealing with!! Just when you think someone has it all, you find out otherwise.

a legend is born? I don't think so.... A SKINNY LEGEND is born!!!!
Very true
My husband died from suicide last year. I love this once woman. Please let’s all try to change the world together , as the lyrics of one of her songs says ‘till it happens to you, you don’t know how it feels’
The way she conveyed her message was so beautiful. I’m so emotional, truly the best human on earth.
The suit looked like it was swallowing her, but by the end it looked small and insignificant. Keep up the words about pain and depression. You speak and it echoes, allowing us who deal with this the chance to get through to people who wouldn't listen. A celebrity can't change the world alone, but they can give the people the power to. I think anyone who has served our country deserves these words: Thank you for your service.
There were so many moments where it was appropriate for them to clap and support her and they didn't. Hollywood is a cold place.
In one night I watched all her songs available on YT. I’m not sleeping-I’m watching all her other videos as well. At 8, a boy, I was sexually assaulted and when I told one of my friends he said “ people tell themselves stories!” I didn’t say anything but went to hid my pain and regretted why I even told that to the guy who didn’t believe: Now, 21, and it doesn’t go a way! I sometimes breakdown but one day I will be a star too from the other side of the world. Thank you lady Gaga u’re inspiring from thousands of miles a way.
Such a brave woman. You come out positively to give inspirational messages.

@@fullup91 YOUR IGNORANCE MURDERER HUNDREADS OF PEOPLE.
Calm the fuck down...
I think GaGa has a lot of mental issues . I believe this is helping her by speaking on these issues shes dealt with in the past .👍🏻 she’s very brave 💕
William Scurry you are just proving her point further. Although there is truth in your statement, clearly lady Gaga was not okay after being raped and sexually assaulted twice. I think people like you just prove Gaga’s point even further.
Ptsd she has
Mental issues is an underated phrase. You, we all have a lot of mental issues. Once the real education and buried shunning of the History of Mental health and Psychiatry comes forth people will be more free in life. Prayerfully this won't just turn into an successful Hollywood Woman with mental i$$ue$ and a band wagon to profit but actual effort to transition from the prehistoric pharmaceutical bandage pills that lead to side effects that create the most debilitating brain and body illnesses. Doctors should be allowed to stop just prescribing treatment plans. We have a lot to loose. Our freaking creativity is being diluted just numbed and buried away. NOT COOL, it takes time for your body cellular system and organs to detox the medicine out while who you are is fighting as well. Yet it's not seen that way. An angry thought is an mental issue that requires one to establish compassion, love, respect, discipline in responding. Look at the Wars since our creation. We know not who we are and we do but our mental issues are acceptable for Civil Order. Please do your research everyone. You can see another's mental issues and measure them when you aren't on stage speaking and standing up for yourself. If I came too direct it's my oversized 3 piece tux I made finally. If you get offended is that your mental issue 🤔. I saw laughing in agreement of an relating RELEASE. MY MENTAL ISSUES WERE GIVEN TO ME, I AM NOT ALLOWING THE MAJORITY OF BULLIES TO DILUTE ME BECAUSE ONLY ONE ROUTE WAS ACCEPTED AND NOW A GLOBAL MENTAL ISSUE DEPRESSION. Even the President of the USA made History and ran into the bunker from protestors, come on
She does have a lot of mental health issues. She was hospitalized before. She has spoken out about it before. She has done a lot of work on herself. She is amazing.
@@meg8278 exactly. And it makes her even more credible in her speech. What a beautiful person
She is my hero...she consistently inspires me...we need more like-minded people in the world...✨💪
