  • Apple Fried Pie, Blueberry Cream Cheese Pie, and Chocolate Fried Pie are all explained in this video. This dessert uses homemade biscuit dough, and you can choose what filling to place inside. Fried Pies are a Southern treat and so delicious!
You really need to watch the video for all the helpful tips I give along the way but here is the basic pie crust recipe and use whatever fruit filling you desire.
    Fried Pies
2 cups All Purpose Flour (Plain Flour, NOT self-rising) (You can use self-rising flour except they will puff up more and I wanted mine NOT to puff up.)
1 Heaping Tablespoon of Crisco Shortening (Lard)
    1 Tablespoon of Sour Cream
¾ cup Whole Buttermilk is what I used
1/8 Cup Vegetable Oil (I used Wesson brand)
Stir up and put in refrigerator to chill for about 10 minutes.
I roll my dough out real thin and cut my circles with my sifter.
These were fried in Avocado Oil or you can use Wesson Vegetable Oil or any oil that takes a high heat.
Chocolate filling is 1/2 c. soft butter, 2 T. cocoa, 1/2 c. powdered sugar. Mix up and it's ready.
Glaze is 1 c powdered sugar and 2 T. water. Mix and drizzle over pies.
They fry up really quick. Makes approx. 10 pies.

BTW you could take the scrap dough , cut dough into small pieces, add a spoon of full of sugar, along with sprinkle of cinnamon to the dough, stir in a little apple pie fillings to the dough, form mixture into paddies and fry them up. Wow Apple Fritters.

I make these all the time but with savory fillings like meat, shrimp or cod. Any latin country has their own version, and we call them, empanadas.

Mom used to make these because Dad loved them. Sometimes she'd do the crust from scratch, but most of the time in the later years she'd do the "cheat" method with canned biscuits. She'd make some for him, and then she'd make a bunch of others that he could take around and drop off for folks. When he passed away, she just couldn't bring herself to make them anymore, so we've been without them for almost 10 years now. She joined him this February. Truly appreciate this little stroll down memory lane.
