My Grandmother and mother canned so many things when I was growing up, I never ate a veggie or fruit out of a can until I went in the military, and Grandmother would fry me all kinds of pies everyday, Peach are my favorite then lemon then apple, so good, i ate a million before I graduated.
Just need some fried catfish hush puppies green tomato relish n ice tea. And a warm apple pie. I’ll be in Heaven Oh my. I miss Texas. We retired to my husbands home town in Maine.
Very good demonstration. That’s the way my mom taught me. The only difference is my mom used dried apples and dried peaches when she made them. Brought back precious memories. THANKS
I'm in Canada and we always called those type of can openers "church keys" not sure how it got that name but that's what they have been called since before I was born in 1965
The church key comes from the knowledge the drinking a beer brought . The key to the truth. Beer cans had to be opened with that can opener because the can was sealed all around and that opener made a pouring spout. Canning equipment companies make the correct lid opener. The side she used is for bottles with non screw caps.
@@lightmarker3146 I actually researched this after and once I read it I remembered hearing it. They were called Church keys bc they were larger & heavier way bk then &looked vry similar to the big keys that opened the church door. LOL never found anything about getting knowledge from beer. Probably what they told their wives though. They got smaller over time &were used for opening pop cans too. The first pull tab hit the market in 1962. Although many pop cans still needed them in the early 70's .The rounded edge was for bottles yes but always used for the canning lids. Our grandmothers and mothers were the canning companies bk then. That is a newer piece of equipment companies hv devised to make more money like everything else they do.
MY GOODNESS, IT TOOK AWHILE TO FIND YOU. I LOVE FRIED APPLE PIES AND IT WAS HARD TO FIND THAT PERSON WHO MADE THEM LIKE MY GRANDMA. HERS WAS GOOD TOO. THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!
We always referred to the opener as a, "Beer Can Opener or Pop Opener" (mostly beer can) My family never drank beer, or soda, but that's what we called it back in the 60's. We called these pies "turnovers" not sure what the difference is. I bought a dumpling gadget off Amazon and going to try it for the pies....
Exactly like my Mother made them and I’m 86 yrs old so I’ve been Wanting to make some. W What apples did you can and did you put syrup on them when you put them in the jars? Also, did you use Crisco to fry them? Loved your show!
We always called the opener or gadget a church key! Can you believe I just made a few Fried Apple pies earlier today, using honey crisp apples. They are already gone!
Do these freeze well and do you reheat them via microwave or air fryer? New subscriber here. Got tons of new apples to cook with before they go to waste, haha.
I’m new to canning and I did some apples but some of my apples came out of the jars while they were cooking. Do you know what caused that and how to fix it?
It was known as a pop bottle opener, it was also used as a beer bottle opener and many years later it was called a church key to make fun at the church because the church was against drinking beer. The beer and pop came in bottles with caps.
You can make sweet potato pies also, just boil a few potatoes, peel and mash ,add brown sugar and if you like cinnamon, add a little, butter to taste and texture you desire. Believe me they are wonderful.
I never store my jars with rings on. If you did have a failure, the lid will pop off if ring is not on. Also, the opener is called a “church key”…why, I have no clue!
Rings should never be left on the canning jar after they are processed and cooled for 16 -24 hours.remove the rings and test the lids and wash off the outside of the jars then make a label with what type of food and the month & year you are canning them. Then when you are getting ready to use your jars of food, lift the jar carefully by the lid. If it's still sealed, when you open it listen for the suction. Then you know that the food is good. If you leave the rings on in storage your food can go bad and then reseal. Which can make you very sick!

I just discovered your channel and it quickly became a favorite!
Those are huge pies! My grandmother made them much smaller!
I just take fresh apples and slice, cook in a little water until tender and cooked down a little, add sugar and a little vanilla flavoring. Great !
I can smell that ummmm ummmm my mama use to make em she also made fried çhoçolate pies. They were so good!
Ive always heard your gadget called a church key..so that's what I call it 😊
One name that Bottle opener is called is Church Key , forgot why .
You are correct, “that is a fried apple pie!”
It was known as a pop bottle opener, it was also used as a beer bottle opener and many years later it was called a church key to make fun at the church because the church was against drinking beer. The beer and pop came in bottles with caps.

since your pastry is basically close to either a biscuut or pie pastry couldn't you just put em on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake em
I never store my jars with rings on. If you did have a failure, the lid will pop off if ring is not on. Also, the opener is called a “church key”…why, I have no clue!
How many minute’s do you let them cook
It is called a church key
❤
Gadgets called can openers! The pointed end is used to punch a hole in canned cream like evaporated milk!😊
I wonder if a tortilla press would work well for these crusts. Maybe I'll try it out.
I’m not eating year old apples when there are fresh apples everyday in the grocery stores
Yeeee haaaaaw love it
How much milk?
💜🙏💜
Cooking with the smallest spoon ?
It is a can opener lol!
Was that evaporated milk ?
Can you answer the question was it evaporated milk asking because it looks yellowish
I'd like to know too. It looks like evaporated milk . It's too yellowish to be milk (like 3% milk in Canada)

I can't hear you
Can you bake these
425 for 12 minutes in my oven . might take a minute or two longer as they are larger than the ones I baked.
That’s some big tablespoons. More like 1/2 a cup of filling. My Mom also put a thin powdered sugar glaze on top of each pie also.
hot water on a metal rim works.
It is called a church key
The sound is spelled s o o k Suk
دخليها للفران احسن للصحة
