After spending the past week practicing the Push/Pull Method (I went to a clinic with drummers Ramon Montagner and Alex Cohen), I now realize this is exactly what Tony does, and I was doing in this video. Basically Tony took the Push/Pull method and added a tap to get multiple notes in one push/pull stroke. I may make another video about this soon, as I'm growing to love this technique.
Cool content! One suggestion though... Try working with a metronome. I find that when I don't use one and choose either a fast or slow tempo to practice, I end up practicing either slow/comfortable or fast/comfortable. My brain finds a place where I can actually play what I'm practicing. When I turn on the metronome (e.g. quarter note = 60), I realize that what I thought I was "getting", I really don't have any control of whatsoever. Thanks! Keep it coming.
Thanks a lot! Great suggestion. I use a metronome quite a bit, but for some reason didn't try to use one for this. I guess I generally do it when I'm practicing a full groove, rather than a technique. But it should help in the same way, so you're right! Thanks for the comment. I appreciate it!
Hey! Just a heads up I'm editing some of the thumbnails and titles of my videos to better match the content. So if you notice a change that would be why, hope you guys are enjoying the videos, don't be afraid to reach out. Thanks homies.
Hi Tom finally getting it up too a good speed..when i start getting up there tempos 130..in a bar of 4..is all 5 notes played each beat? So itd be a total of 20 notes per a bar of four beats? Thanks again for your video..greatly appreciate it
@@brandonthedrummer7226 Hey, Brandon! It depends on how you're playing it. If you're playing double time at 130bpm (pretty fast) then it would fit about 3 times in one bar. The 5th note of the third time would land on the 1 of the next bar, and then you can use that as the start of the swing pattern again if that makes sense. If you're playing normal time at 130bpm then it should fit in about 3 times over two bars. One way you can do it at double time would be to keep time and come in with the 5 pattern on the and of 2. This would have you play the pattern twice in a row and land back on one of the next bar. Hopefully that's not too confusing hahaha.
@@brandonthedrummer7226 so at double time starting the pattern right on one, I believe you'll have just about 15 notes played if you count the one of the next bar.
