All of the things you talked about were really good points. In my opinion, I believe people should only be using instant quote door hangers and not traditional door hangers if they are going to use door hangers as a marketing method. If customers know what their price will be right away then they can simply decide right then rather than having to reach out and get a quote. By reducing friction and simplifying the process for the customer, you'll get a significantly higher amount of responses as opposed to traditional door hangers.
Good Reminder: 1. Improve the lead where the potential customer is searching. 2. Improve credibility with online presence. Most contents on UA-cam is about online businesses (e-commerce, Dropshipping, trading…), small brick and mortar businesses need a different approach sometimes… the idea may be similar to the online ones but the angle we observe, defines the need we are fulfilling for the customer! (From a small business owner) You are doing good! Keep making content!
I need to get a website and improve my online presence for sure. But I have been very successful door knocking. I dress professionally and don’t come across like a salesperson. I tell them I am a small lawn business etc and would love the opportunity to service their lawn. But again it takes a lot of motivation to do this and most of the time I am lazy about it. But I got 8 new clients in Spring just by door knocking a few hours on about 4-5 different Saturday’s.
That is great hustle! Totally agree you can make it work but it’s just 10x easier to have clients come to you organically without doing any work. Love the work you’re putting in, definitely try to increase your online presence. 💯
I agree with everything you said it’s a lot of work I gained a few clients when I started from door hangers but I feel like if I would of spent that money on ads I would of had a bigger reach/return great content keep them coming
Every household either does their own lawn or contracts it out, dah! The diys eventually get tired, too old, more affluent or tired of the same provider like in a marriage. All good things come to a end. Getting 5% from is a poor return when I can pick and choose face to face sales and get no less than 25%. It appears that salesmanship is a lost art and only a few of us know how to use it. I never reply to junk mail or subscribe to online ads or even believe online reviews that appears overrated.
Yo! Great info! I am a little bit outside of Austin; all my yards are dry too! I have a few questions - Is there still time to pick up more yards this fall? - How do people survive when the yards are so dried up, are you supposed to do a lot of work in the spring/ summer and save? This is my first year fulltime, Thanks!
- you can advertise for fall cleanups, gutter cleanings, etc to get more customers during the fall - I’ve never seen it this bad but yes that’s why you usually want to charge on the higher end and save as much as possible. This is eating into winter saving, those will be very unpleasant couple of months 🥲I have no clue how the guys that charge 25-35 per cut are getting through right now. Try making up for it with other services. Also If a customer cancels on me and I service their property after a month I usually charge an extra 15-20. I’ve never had a problem with it, I just explained to them that the original agreement was for weekly/ biweekly so if I’m going out there after a month I’m going to charge a bit more regardless of the height of the grass. Most understand this is a business and bills have to be paid. Last thing I would recommend is from now on to start marketing to those nicer subdivision where lawns are watered regularly. Where droughts aren’t a problem and you are cutting till winter( I’m still cutting my 15 weeklies every single week) Remember if you’re really struggling there’s nothing wrong with getting a part time job on the side of you really need to
I haven’t payed for any online ads ever. I simply made sure my Google business ranked amongst the top 3 within the areas I service. This takes a lot of time though. I would say to get as many 5 star reviews as posible and have a decent website attached with hundreds of back links to it (you can pay someone to do this.) There are 20+ factors that determine where you rank amongst your competitors. I suggest watching a couple videos on UA-cam and implementing those top 5 most important factors. Or pay a marketing agency to do it for you. These are quite expensive but I’m sure you’ll make the money back within a handful of customers. It will make a huge difference. After you’re able to rank amongst the top 3 you’re able to spend 0 money on ads. I usually receive 5-10 calls/ texts every day from new potential clients even though I am one of the smallest companies compared to the competition here. I can only imagine the amount of leads they get 😅Hope this helps
This is great info for someone just starting out. But I don't have any customers yet and putting out door hangers/business cards this spring was my plan to build an initial customer base. Any recommendations for me if that stuff doesn't work? How should I go about finding those first 5-10 clients? Google is def my long term plan, but I will need to prove myself and earn some 5 star reviews before it starts producing leads.

You’re absolutely right about that

Appreciate the response!@@floreslawnservice7509 Thank you!
It probably didn't work well for you because you only handed out 500. I hand out 2000-5000 every spring...I get about 5% of those handouts.
Wow that’s a great return. Is there something that you are putting on them to get more calls?
Where did you get your door hangers?
Vistaprint
Great video! Do you recommend anything when doing ads?

If you’re starting out then yes I would go with door hangers. Just remember it’s a numbers game. I would say pass out a minimum of 1000
