- Here's a private recording made on a portable cassette player. Definitely not professional quality. But those of us who are really into Buddy never get tired of hearing him - especially when he solos! This is from Reading, PA on 9 April, 1973.
What a great drum solo Buddy did on Greensleeves composed by Don Piestrup. Buddy just playing two drums and makes it so exciting ! He plays the bass drum like a bass player walking the quarter notes. Then on just the snare drum he composed his own melody with accents and amazing press rolls at this tempo. No drummer ever plays like this. First you need the technique and must feel the swing beat to have that great flow and make the solo so exciting to hear. I always get inspired to play when I hear these amazing recordings of Mr. Buddy Rich. Thanks so much Cloudview for posting this great performance of the best drummer I ever heard!
What Ken Loomer said!! 😊
@My Gong Songs Yes I should of said Greensleeves arranged by Don Piestrup. Very interesting facts you wrote about the song Greensleeves.
Fantastic .... BUDDY was the ULTIMATE , Period.
Oh yeah.
Thank you to our cloud view for letting us hear our idol. Happiness makes the world a better place, if you pay attention and listen intently. Buddy always always made his fans appreciate his greatness thanks to cloud view agaib
You are so very welcome Ray.
Buddy sounds better on a portable cassette player than any other professional drummer in a recording studio.
😮
😊
Thanks for posting one of my favorite Buddy charts, Of course Buddy sounds great as always. Also thanks for keeping his Artistry alive I am always amazed at the gems you find And photos to match the time period These were recorded. Good job, talk to you next time👍
My pleasure Tom.
INSANE
Can we ever get enough Buddy in our lives? Another great one Cloudview. I honestly think he could play those singles and fast six stroke rolls while reading the paper. It blows me away to think how much time he spent on the bus or an airplane NOT PLAYING until it was time for the gig. No practice, no warm up...just come out swingin'!!!
I know!! This no practice, no warm up thing is mind-blowing.
Recently I was emailing back and forth with Buddy's pianist Bill Cunliffe. I asked Bill to please be honest - how often did he see Buddy warm up before performing? Bill responded in all caps: "NEVER!"
I think Bill is just as amazed by it as we are.
@@cloudview747 Isn't that incredible? I lived in Vegas for years and Bill taught out there for a while at UNLV. So sad that some of the alumni are passing away (Andy Fusco just recently). Like you, I really miss the whole Buddy experience (the excitement and anticipation before the concert, that energy his band had even though they played the same tunes night after night, the fact that Buddy was always unpredictable in his solos etc). I'll cherish those flashes of musical insight the rest of my life as I know you do too. At least we have UA-cam. :-)
@@Drumminman4U I love Bill and his playing. And without a doubt, I miss Buddy more than I can say.
Happy new year guys , i was just thinking this week about all the hype surrounding Pele .
Yes the guy was a fabulous footballer , but there will be another fabulous footballer as there has been , Maradona , Cruyff , Ronaldo and Messi .
Lets put this into prespective , over 60 years there has been 5 World class players who could all declare themselves to be the best .
Now lets look at Buddy , he was a one off a true GENIUS and no matter how long this world keeps turning , for all eternity there will never be another Buddy Rich or anyone that will get close in anyway shape , or form .
So times the pele thing by millions , and you stiĺl dont even scratch the surface of Buddys genius .
!!!!!!!!!!
Unreal...
That's our guy!
One of a kind
Oh how true.
Nice! Thanks for posting this, RC!
😊
This is great! Thanks CV
😊
Not sure of the personnel but probably Alan Kaplan on the trombone solo and Joe Romano on alto. Lin Biviano was gone by then (joined up with Maynard's band) so likely Charlie Davis on lead tpt.
Really intense
👍 😊
Those darned hipsters and their retro-recording technology ... but seriously thanks for uploading! ... all the really old jazz recordings suffer pretty much the same olfactory penalties. That vintage wow and flutter tho 😂
👍
Dang good sound quality! A cassette tape was really a small reel-to-reel recorder. 787 - Dreamliner?
Yes, the Dreamliner is the reason I picked the number 787. 😊
Glad you like this audio of The Drum Wonder!
@@cloudview747 I have seen Buddy in concert multiple times. Glad I had the opportunity. You must be an airline pilot?
@@OlesonMD Oh my no. I'm not an airline pilot. Just an avid observer of clouds and weather, and what better place to view clouds than from a "Dreamliner" !!
Cloud view!!!!!!!!!!
Fans like us will just never, ever, get tired of listening to The Man. And we will never stop being completely blown away by him either. Ever!!
bass player sounds lost
