When I was younger my dad and I would go sight in our rifles for deer season that starts the monday after Thanksgiving in PA. We would get up early and go to a friends farm where we would be hunting a few days later and spend the morning shooting around. Its was great. I still remember one year the biggest deer i have ever seen walking by when we started making noise. He wasnt worried at all. He must have known he had a few days before he needed to worry about us but we sure were tempted to tempted to take a shot at him. But we didnt. Of course we never saw him when the season started but thats the way it goes I guess.

I go all out on this day. Start preparing and prepping a few days before, because everything is made from scratch. I even use whole pumpkins and roast the in the oven to make the pies with. Usually have enough leftovers that gets us through the weekend. This day is one of 3 days that I'm allowed to smoke the pipe in the house, the other two being Christmas and my bday 🎂. I bought a pound of the thanksgiving day blend a few years back and only smoke it on this day. Wife enjoys the smell and one I allowed to enjoy indoors. ❤❤❤

My favorite tradition is hunting and cooking the turkey with my father-in-law. Thanksgiving morning we always wake up early and go hunting. We rarely see any deer but it’s amazing to watch the sun rise over a frosty field. Then we head home to warm up and deep fry the family turkey and argue with the rest of the family. Great times and full bellies!

The best thanksgiving tradition that we have done since I was a little kid is everyone meets at my parents and we all sit at the supper table and go around the table saying what we are thankful for and what’s been the best part of the year. A couple years ago when I turned 21 I got to into cigars and now me and my dad smoke one on the back porch and that imo is the best time spent all year.

Thanks brother, and happy Thanksgiving. One of our family’s annual traditions is to put a construction paper TURKEY body on the dining room wall, and then after a meal pass out colorful paper “feathers” and write on them something we are thankful for. Then we go around the table and share our thanks aloud. After sharing we tape our feathers to the bird on the wall - and watch the turkey grow. Lots of fun for our seven kids and now spouses too.

I live away from family, so I’m typically celebrating with friends, so our tradition is to go around the table and everyone has to say the one thing that happened during the last year that they’re most thankful for. When I do get home to see my family, we always said a special thanksgiving prayer together before dinner.

Thanksgiving for us is about family getting together and remembering how blessed we are. We also try and invite those over who don't have anyone to celebrate with. When we sit down to eat, we always start with a prayer where we go around the table and each person says what they are thankful for. Hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving!

My dad always smoked his pipe and he would smoke a cavendish. C&D autumn evening reminds me 100% of that. My parents had 6 kids and Thanksgiving was one of the few days my dad had off throughout the year. Family being together and thanking god for what he provided was always important. We always had chocolates and cheeseball with crackers available and the the usual turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, and baked beans but, my favorite has always been the pumpkin pie.

We host both sides of the family for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. Thanksgiving is a traditional Turkey dinner (we’re in Grand Rapids Michigan). Christmas though has been a Texas bbq tradition since about 4 years ago. I smoke a full packer brisket and a couple racks of ribs. It’s a crowd favorite for the families! God bless you and Happy Thanksgiving!

Several decades ago, before I became a landlocked denizen of New Mexico, I was a sailor. Not the navy type, the sailboat type. Our family lived in west Los Angeles and sailed out of Marina del Rey. Each year we would sail to Catalina Island for the thanksgiving holiday. Before leaving the marina mom would put a small turkey in the oven and spend most of the voyage creating the family’s favorite dishes. By the time we arrived, the turkey would be cooked, the side dishes prepared and the feast laid on the salon table.
Mom and dad are gone and I don’t sail anymore, but every year at thanksgiving I recall those family dinners at Catalina Island as some of the finest meals I have ever enjoyed.

I am going to share Thanksgiving traditions when I was a child. We always went to my grandma‘s house and she would cook each of us a Cornish game hen. She had the most scrumptious sweet potatoes with marshmallows in the middle and she would roll them in cornflakes and fry them! Of course there was always freshly made cranberry sauce. She had a fireplace and the house was very cozy. These were special times as my mom passed when I was 16 years old. Now I have grandchildren that are almost that old, and my kids and grandkids are all living far away from us. So today our tradition is going to a restaurant for Thanksgiving. But I still have my sweet memories from childhood. Thanks for allowing us to enter your contest. God bless!

Our family has a thanksgiving tradition after the feast, we gather around a fire pit in the backyard with pipes, cigars, hot cider, cocktails and a spirit of gratitude. Each person takes a turn sharing one thing they’re thankful for from the past year and one thing they hope to achieve in the next. It’s a time for storytelling, laughter, and connection. It's our way of blending warmth, tradition, and mindfulness into thanksgiving night!

Almost every Thanksgiving growing up was spent at my grandparents’ house. My favorite thing that has been passed down throughout the years is the pan that we roast the turkey in. It’s seen about five generations of my family now (including me), and every year we cook the same Great Depression era recipes (with a few modifications from each generation). And that’s my favorite part of the holiday, because, like pipe smoking, it reminds me of all of my favorite old people.

Our tradition for thanksgiving is each of us helps make a dish or two. My mom usually makes green bean casserole, mash potatoes, stuffing, and seasons the turkey and cooks it partway. My dad usually helps finish the turkey by smoking it and he makes a sweet potato casserole. My older brother makes the cranberry sauce and a cheese cake pumpkin pie its to die for. I usually help my mom with peeling the potatoes and I make baked mac and cheese, gravy, and corn bread. There's a lot of fighting and chaos that usually in sues with all of us working in the kitchen but its given me some fond memory's I look back on. But once we are all finished making the food we all are thankful to each other for working together to make a lovely feast. PSA please make sure your turkey is fully defrosted if you plan on frying it. I remember one year my brother got experimental and wanted to make a fried turkey and well we almost burnt down my grandmas house cuz the turkey wasn't fully defrosted. But god was there and the oil flowed like a volcano out of the pot but some how all the oil that flowed out smothered the flame on the burner out and luckily he didn't get hurt and we all got to still eat a lovely turkey that year it still is my favorite turkey I had for thanksgiving.

My mom and dad had a tradition of always inviting (to our Thanksgiving meal) someone they knew who would be spending the day alone otherwise. I met men and women from all walks of life and and it gave me an awareness of those who might not have family to join on holidays. My parents set a great example of being generous of heart, and Thanksgiving will always remind me of that. And now, of course, we carry on the tradition.

A tradition we have started is to do our Thanksgiving in a pot luck style so there is never one person getting overloaded with all the work. Hosting changes from year to year as family changes locations and what not. This year we are all traveling up north to Humboldt county to visit a family member who moved up there. We make a list where everyone can sign up for what they want to contribute for cooking. And another tradition is for everyone to help with clean up and finish the night off with a movie. Truly excited to spend time with loved ones this year and am super thankful for you offering this awesome giveaway! Thanks Spurgeonpiper!! Always enjoy your videos and have learned alot from you. Good luck to everyone and happy holidays!

Long time listener, first time commenter. Thanksgiving for us really starts in the summer. After scouting and many hours of prep we deer hunt during Thanksgiving week. In Arkansas the rut typically falls towards the end/
middle of November. After a morning hunt we head to town to visit family and have a traditional turkey lunch at my folks house.
When we return home for the evening I like to make a hot toddy or hot buttered rum paired with a pipe. I started smoking LJP blends about a year ago and really enjoy Thanksgiving Day during the cooler months.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

Holiday traditions are huge with my family, and with my own family now we are still establishing traditions. On thanksgiving we pray as a family thanking God for all of his blessings as well as both the answered and unanswered prayers for the year. We do the typical huge family dinner from 12pm-9pm along with naps and football. After dinner my wife, son and I come home and put on warm pajamas and do an all night Christmas movie marathon with peppermint bark and hot coco. The Friday after we get up and decorate for Christmas! On Christmas Eve we make Santa cookies with my grandmother at my parents house. We return home and I read the Christmas story and then finish off with reading from Luke before putting our son to bed. Once he’s in bed I go outside and put my Christmas blend for the year (this year is bobs chocolate flake) in my Christmas pipe of the year and enjoy a glass of bourbon. Christmas then becomes complete chaos of paper and boxes as my toddler rips through his presents 😂 it’s hard to get all of the awesome memories down in one comment….. also that thanksgiving blend sounds great! Thank you for the review!

Our thanksgiving tradition is mainly just spending time with family and friends. I usually do a small dinner with the wife and kids. The one tradition we do every year is go see the Xmas light display at our local potato chip factory call Herr's. It's a free drive through display that is very well done. Wilson, I love your enthusiasm about this blend!
As a pastor who preaches every week, I think my favorite part of Thanksgiving is the Sunday prior to the holiday. I always focus that message on something that pulls us toward giving thanks. This week I am finishing up a series on some of Jesus' powerful one-liners, with a message on, "He causes the sun to rise on the evil and the good." It reminds me of Jeremiah's words to the exiles that God's mercies are new every morning. Maybe Jesus had those words in mind when He added, "Be merciful as your Father in Heaven is merciful"? What a great reason to give thanks!
At this stage in life, the family is scattered around the country, so Thanksgiving Day ends up being a rather simple day with family and friends who are able to gather around our table, enjoy a good meal, and celebrate God's goodness.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

My family has had the tradition of hosting Thanksgiving at a family members house which rotates every year. We have the staples of thanksgiving, such as the Turkey, cranberry sauce and more. Further on food, each party of the extended family brings a different dish, which means that with everybody, the tables of food are bountiful. we go through the day, playing games, spending time catching up, and just enjoying the company of each other.
I am a new piper, introduced by a friend after he gave me a project pipe. The pipe he gave me was a beautiful, 6 panel apple style pipe that had been well loved beforehand. And I have been enjoying a local blend that has small notes of berries somehow.
Anyhow, Thank you Sir, your content is always soothing and entertaining to listen to, as well as watch. I wish you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving has a new meaning these past few years. As long as I remembered I would gather with my parents and extended family at my grand parents home for good fellowship, food , and many prayers of thanks. Unfortunately in a short time I have lost my grandparents and my father. I many precious memories with them. Now it is seeking a new normal. When I was a teenager, we used to drive from Montreal (when we still lived there) to NYC to stay with my uncle in Manhattan every year. The uncles and older kids would get up early and trek on down to scope out the best spot for the Macy’s Parade, then all the uncles, aunts, cousins, grandparents, etc would meet us there a little later. After, we’d head back to my uncle’s to watch the Christmas Story marathon until dinner. I remember my dad at the parade telling us, “at this time, there is no other place to be in the world than right here. This is it, this where everyone wants to be.” He’s a real life Clark Griswald 😂 PS - It was great meeting you at the Texas Pipe Show. Still would love to have you on the pod.

We get together as a family on a chosen day before or after the actual holiday. (To give thanks with family can be any day you chose, not just the designated day after all.) Being a Pecan Farmer here in Texas, Thanksgiving is one of the few Holidays taken off for. It usually includes a large spread of family and food, in which the cooking starts early that Thursday morning as I fry the family turkey every year. In the afternoon my wife and kids go out to the orchard to take new fall pictures in the trees as they change color, drop leaves and pecans before harvest. It has become a tradition that I am grateful for, and will resume for as long as I can.

Every year we travel up a short jaunt north to my parents' house and start the day early. We typically make jalapeno poppers and snack on some decadent puppy chow as we are preparing the food. The main meal is at noon, and the dish I look forward to the most is a spicy squash casserole my father typically makes. Pecan pie always polishes it all off for me.
I am a novice pipe smoker, and I just got a starter pipe about a month ago. It has a beautiful engraving of the Nativity scene, and I am doing my best to get that carbon buildup in the bowl. Our family Thanksgiving tradition is of course dinner at ma'maws. Home made everything by the legend herself. The staple or tradition for me has always been her cinnamon rolls she used to make at her restaurant. She always made us kids a pan to take home, but more often than not the full pan didnt make it. We always seem to find ourselves watching Christmas Vacation of an evening as well. Many holidays were like that for us so we learned "thanksgiving" was more about the company and the experience rather than the specific date. Cheers!

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I am the cook in the family so my wife gets to relax while the kids and I prepare the Thanksgiving meal. We always have turkey, which we apple brine the night before, along with sweet potatoes, butternut squash, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cole slaw, and cranberry sauce. We make pumpkin pies the night before. What makes this so special is that I have been doing this with my kids since they were kids and now they are adults in their twenties, and they still help me in the kitchen. After dinner and the dishes are clean, I can sit and enjoy a good pipe. I usually smoke C&D Autumn Evening, but this year I also have the LJ Peretti Thanksgiving Blend and I can't wait to try it.

My wife is a RN and often has to work on Thanksgiving so we don’t always have the luxury of annual traditions on the holiday itself unfortunately. We make the best of it though and celebrate all of our blessings and gratitude together as a family the day before or the day after when we can all be together. My son’s birthday is the 26th so it occasionally falls on thanksgiving as well, which gives us another blessing to celebrate. I don’t have an official pipe or blend I smoke for thanksgiving but I usually do try to find a little time that day to enjoy a pipe and reflect on all that I have to be grateful for in life!

Thanksgiving is a time we spend with my wife’s family. Great food and company while the kids run around playing. I usually take a country gentleman corn cob pipe with some kind of Virginia blend. Thanksgiving starts with a big breakfast together with lots of pancakes and watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade! Then, in the afternoon we have a traditional thanksgiving dinner with both turkey and ham. We go around the table and everyone says what they are thankful for. We watch football while we eat and then watch a movie on TV where most everyone falls asleep throughout the movie. God Bless you and your family during this day and throughout the year!

Growing up, one of our Thanksgiving traditions would actually take place on the Sunday after Thanksgiving! That Sunday after church we would go to my grandparent’s house on my mom’s side and meet up with the rest of the family to have a somewhat non traditional meal. Afterwards, we would all go to the theater to watch that year’s family friendly Christmas movie, and when we got back we’d help decorate their tree!

One of my favorite Thanksgiving traditions in my family is the day before thanksgiving. The whole family comes over and bakes pies, preps for the meal the next day, and spends time talking and conversing.
It’s just as enjoyable as the meal itself since we get to spend time preparing the meal together. We all make a dish and enjoy sharing new recipes with each other. Cooking is one way we show how we love and are thankful for each other.

Thanksgiving has always been the main holiday for my mother’s, mother’s family and we would meet at the community center for a traditional meal followed by a football game in the yard. Even though my great grandparents have passed on now we still meet as a family for thanksgiving. I live on my great grandparents farm in the house that my great grandfather built. We all knew him as “Pa” and Pa is the reason I smoke a pipe.

My Thanksgiving tradition typically involves traveling to see my brother. He usually selects a place to have a wonderful Thanksgiving lunch after we attend the Thanksgiving church service. We have occasionally ended up in a cigar lounge for a cigar or a pipe. I've always been hesitant to try a new aromatic. You've convinced me to try Thanksgiving Day next year.

No crazy thanksgiving traditions… just the norm. I typically try to see both sides of my family on thanksgiving day since the locations both sides celebrate at are about 5 minutes apart. We have traditional dishes: turkey, Mac and cheese, dressing, green beans, rice, giblet gravy, pineapple casserole, and other various dishes. Since I have been married we have celebrated with her family on the following Saturday. In the past we have gone camping as a family on thanksgiving and that was a blast! I have only been pipe smoking for about a year so this will be my first thanksgiving as a pipe smoker! I will most likely smoke Chelsea morning that day seeing as that is my favorite blend currently. I hope you and your family have a happy thanksgiving ! Grace and peace.

Thanksgiving is a time of rest and family for us. Thanksgiving morning I go out to my grandfather's farm, while doing the farm work we make the most out of the time we have available not rushing through the work. We'll part ways to fulfill our meal contributions for later, and then we gather with the extended family for a meal, cards, games, and fellowship. Its simple, yet a time to evaluate how blessed we are to be together.

My Thanksgiving tradition is setting up the Christmas Tree. I know it's too early for some but for our family it was the only time that we were all together besides weddings or funerals. I got to see the amazing love and joy that my family has for each other while we're all around the tree. Laughing, talking, and enjoying being together. I'm sure if my grandparents were here they'd be happy so see that tradition kept alive. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Hey Wilson, I truly appreciate the Thanksgiving season, just as much family as Christmas but for the simple pleasure of getting together for a time honored deal. Tradition in our house has always been watching the Lions game (I live in Michigan), and in recent years I have smoked a turkey which has brought new joys to the morning routine on Thanksgiving. Since I already smell like smoke from the smoker I usually sneak in a pipe as well. Hope you and your family have a great holiday season! Cheers, Alex

    Hey Wilson!
I've watched your videos for a while now and it's really helped me in my piping journey.
I am 25 years old, so I do not have any Thanksgiving traditions I have started myself, but I will try to share some stories that I have experienced on thanksgiving over the years.
My family is German, likes to cook, and can be quiet. For this reason, it seems at first that there isn't going to be any loud laughing or screaming going on in my family, especially around the holidays. Everyone tends to talk and rejoice that family is together while they cook turkey, ham, or pies, and no one seems to be overly loud or rambunctious. This tends to be the case all throughout the day, until we get to board games. My family has a tradition of playing catch-phrase which is a family game that is almost like verbal pictionary. You have a word, but you need to explain what it is without saying it. Once we group up into girls vs. guys, things get heated and fun. My grandparents and even uncle and aunt start screaming at each other in a competitive light, and so I really enjoy these memories on Thanksgiving.
I tend to smoke Boswell's Christmas Cookie, Mac Baren Golden Extra, or My Mixture 965 around this time of the year.

In general, we try to celebrate Thanksgiving with one set of the family and have a big meal (Baja boat potatoes, Chick-Fil-A cloned macaroni, salad, stuffing, and of course Turkey). In the past, we have spent a few years out of the country, so the traditional became to try and recreate the environment of home for the kids as we celebrate on our own. A whole lot of cooking for a twenty minute experience, but it always seems worth it….until dishes are involved. Love the channel; keep up the good work and enjoy your Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving tradition for my family has changed over the years. Got married to my wife January of 2022, she is Brazilian so they don’t celebrate this holiday, but ever since she’s been here she has made a nice decadent cranberry sauce and some Brazilian dishes as well as our typical turkey, ham, and stuffing. Usually start the day off watching football with my dad while getting everything prepared and cooked. After dinner we usually go outside and light up the fire pit. I usually use a meerschaum and pack in petersons sherlock holmes… I just love the flavor and usually relaxes me after a long day. Love your videos. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share my family’s thanksgiving tradition.

We usually have a fairly “standard” thanksgiving where my family has a get together and we all bring different foods and desserts. Being in Florida though, it varies whether we will have cool weather or leftover summer heat. Last year for example we had turkey, stuffing, as well as a mess of fried fish and clams! We usually finish up with some pumpkin pie and a cup of coffee. Then when back at the house and eating leftovers we crank up the Christmas music and decorate the tree. When it is cold I love to just sit outside by a fire, hopefully this year we may get that weather. I’m brand new to pipe smoking, not quite 3 weeks even! So far just with some Missouri Meerschaum corn cobs and I feel like I’m getting the hang of it slowly but surely! I’ve been wanting to purposefully slow down in life and enjoy the things that really matter, family time, being thankful and in awe of the Lord and all the blessings we as believers have, and of course good literature and art. From now on I’ll be adding pipe smoking to the list as well and it’s been a lot of fun watching creators like you and others discuss the joys of tobacco and a slow and reflective life. Happy Thanksgiving and God bless everybody!

Me, my wife, kids and in-laws pack up and drive to her aunt's place who lives on Medina Lake here in Texas, there we partake in the classic Thanksgiving goings-on. After eating dinner and pie we do the classic "what are you Thankful for" chat asking around the table. When the chatting turns to politics I take that opportunity to participate in my favorite tradition; lighting up a bowl of whatever I've got, this year it'll likely be PS24 Nougat out of my Country Gentleman, and enjoy a sunset.
Thanks for your reviews and other insights.

As an Irishman who moved to Morocco, thanksgiving was never something we imagined we would partake in or pay any mind to.
Though; in the process of moving overseas, we ended up meeting, working alongside and getting very close with a handful of Americans, who have blessed us by sharing this tradition.
We now celebrate every year with our friends, smoke a bowl of Presbyterian mixture together, and of course eat plenty of brilliant food. Though we normally bring some classic Irish dishes, my wife and I are trying to work on learning some thanksgiving classics to bless our friends… hopefully the pecan pie turns out okay this year!
One of those American friends is back in America for thanksgiving and Christmas, so should I happen to be chosen then the giveaway could eventually make its way around the world back to me!
    Always enjoy the videos, Wilson.
    Blessings, Ross

The first 10 years or so after college always meant being able to go home and have the holidays with family, specifically at my parents house. We were fortunate enough to move back (w/i 1 mile from them now) home about 5 years ago, and still celebrate at mom and dad's house. However, it's nice now being the welcoming crew as my younger brother and sister live a far, and look forward to our family time throughout the holiday. We always make sure to have some type of shoot throughout the holiday weekend, whether it's plinking cans in the back forty or heading to our local sportsmen club to do some sporting clays!

Thanksgiving has always been special to me as of all the other holidays, aside of my mom making a huge Thanksgiving meal from the Italian soup to the antipasto, artichokes, lasagna and of course a big huge butterball turkey for our wonderful Thanksgiving meal. But what really stands out from my memory was the night before Thanksgiving. I would always love to watch my mom prepare the turkey. I remember her preparing the stuffing which was a wonderful tasty homemade stuffing it had egg, hamburger, ground sausage and different seasonings. It was a delicious stuffing that she made that I will never forget. My mom would stuff the turkey full of her homemade stuffing so full that she would get a needle and thread and closed up the opening so the stuffing wouldn’t fall out she would then put the turkey in the oven let it cook all night on low ( 250 ) heat so that when we woke up Thanksgiving morning the whole house had that wonderful aroma of that delicious juicy turkey. She would then set the oven on Thanksgiving morning on a higher heat and finish cooking it. Beautiful Thanksgiving memories with the family that I will never forget.
