Let's Cover Beginner Pipe Smoker Issues
I swear, if they mess with St Bruno, I'm quitting pipe smoking 😮
I tried smoking a pipe and I hate it, the bad aftertaste stinging tongue it is not natural to put smoke in the body. At least for me, everyone has a choice but smoking is not for me not pipes or cigars or cigarettes.
Definitely an underated blend. Very good tobacco. Great review brother.
Crazy they tobacco pipes gas it for $5 with a $10 purchase in July of ‘24.
Whatever shop you use, ask for Lane 1Q. One of the most popular blends ever.
Cost is totally relevant.
Do you do brice is right ??
We are renting and I can't smoke in the house or the garage apparently. For the coming winter and the rain thankfully there's a Lil tool shed in the back yard.I put a chair in there and it's got some shelves. It's is now dubbed sir Sean's smoke house!😅
TSP I'm interested to know how you'd think about vape users getting into pipe tobacco as an exit strategy for one reason or another. It's a low % of ppl, yet im one who quit juuling to pivot into pipes since the similarities are the most compatible imo. As always, dope channel, amen.
Just got this and its delightful
Hello, should i breaking in a new pipe with peterson nightcap
I hate cigars, and absolutely love this one. The ready-rubbed is indeed fantastic, to the point I wish all of the straight HH blends were offered in this format. Thanks as always for your thoughts!
Doesn’t pipe smoking do the same thing to your lungs that cigarettes do? There’s nothing worse than a wet smelling smoker of any type!
No. There's quite a distinction between cigarettes and pipes/cigars. I have videos on this under a health and pipe smoking playlist that you be may interested in.
What I remember from athletics when I was younger is the acronym KISS. Keep it simple stupid! Grab a can of Prince Albert and an ounce of aromatic, Virginia, and English bulk tobaccos from your local brick & mortar. That’s $20 and will last you a month or more. Learn how to smoke before you spend money on nice tobaccos. Bulk and codger blends aren’t bad either.
Thank you
I bought a three year old mac baren can, not knowing its age, is it okay to smoke?
@@rickyperez2824 Absolutely! Think of tobacco age like wine, it's a good thing
@@TheSpurgeonPiper thanks for the fast reply! I was stressing out because i just bought it an hour ago
You said 5100…. Which reminded me I still have about 1/2 a pound left in the cellar I havnt touched since probably 2012/13…. I’m gonna have to go dig that out now.
@@ThatOneHunterGuy lucky you!

...13:15 and not one single mention of "ghosting"? C'mon! CLICK!
$20 for a 1.5 oz a tin ? Sutliff tobacco has no business being this expensive.
I recently picked up a tin of this and really like it. I’m a new pipe smoker, trying to get up to speed with light English blends, which haven’t really been doing it for me. But this… this I like a great deal!
Great video! Inspired me to take four of my pipes out of rotation and give them some love. I find it too easy to just slip into a daily habit and just grab my favorite pipes each day without showing them some care outside of a quick swabbing and wipedown.
Inner chamber diameter of .66 for Vapar, .70 for Virginia flakes, .74 for burley, .82 for dark tobacco, .84 or larger for aromatics, English, and Latakia bombs. That being said, cob's for Vapars and Virginia flakes. Briar and Meerschaum pipes for burley, English and aromatics.
I have four pipes I need to break in/start smoking in. I find myself smoking my morning (9:30am) work break pipe in my MM devil cutty pipe. Usually cowboy coffee or riverboat queen for my first bowl. So that’s a daily pipe. With that said my favorite pipes as of now are my cheapest.
I have 16 pipes in my rotation. I smoke everyday (3-5 bowls) and I’m an aromatic smoker ( Captain Black royal or Velvet). 2 of my pipes I use only at home( I have an H.I.S. Churchwarden and a Calabash pipe I picked up in an Antique store) usually those are the ones I use for my 1st smoke of the day, then I’ll use a different pipe the rest of the day. I do realize how addicting it can be when you purchase different kinds of pipes, but I feel they should get equal usage, that way you don’t burn them out too soon and why not show off the different styles you own. I’m not a huge fan of English blends, so I don’t have to segregate my pipes where you use certain ones for certain blends, and I totally understand why you would do that. I have a 70+ year old Dr Grabow Duke that used to belong to my Great- Uncle Lawrence ( Today the style is called the Lark). It has a small bowl so I call it my Short smoker. If I don’t want to smoke more than 30 minutes, I use that pipe. We buy pipes for the same reason we buy different tobacco’s…. To enjoy them.
Common sense and enjoying the hobby the way you like to enjoy it - that seems to be ticket. Thank you for your videos.
Great video Wilson. I don't smoke very often. Maybe 2 or 3 bowls a week if I'm lucky. I thoroughly clean my pipes out after every smoke and then I continue on my set rotation regardless of what I'm smoking. Eventually once I've widdled down my keeper blends, I'll assign a pipe to a blend. Hope you and family are well. 🍻💨💨
I only use standard BIC gas lighters. Preferably the standard sparky ones. They cost under a buck if you buy a couple of them. I have not felt the urge to spent money on a lighter. Nothing is as reliable as a BIC lighter. The fancier they get, the less reliable they are. You needed to strike your other lighters three times to get a flame.
Pipe Acquisition Disorder It’s a serious disorder that affects 95% of pipe smokers.

Great video sir. A lot of great points with this video. I think this is by far the best video on this subject

I enjoy your videos, and they are a great dialog for fairly new pipe smokers like myself. Keep up the good work, and know it is appreciated! Another question I have that is non pipe related is , do you have any online content involving your sermons or Bible studies? I am, as could be described, “returning to my faith” , and would be interested in any online content you might have available.. Much respect from Dublin, Ireland.
@@Iretile I appreciate the kind words! Absolutely, you can find my sermons on my church's UA-cam channel: youtube.com/@covenantbaptistchurch-wf?si=huVBzi8gLLvNSu2a
@@Iretile also, if you have Twitter, look me up. I post 50/50 pipe tobacco/theological content that may be beneficial
@@TheSpurgeonPiper thank you!🙏
@@TheSpurgeonPiper I’ll look you up! God bless!
Who is sir Walter Raleigh?
Excellent thoughts. I always enjoy your videos
Excellent chat, Wilson! I “deep” clean the pipes I smoke every night. Why? Because I smoke with filters and a clean pipe gives me a better smoke. A pipe that was on duty gets at least a few days rest before it goes back in service. Also has to do with chasing a better smoke.
@@DoingitWrong there you go!
New camera and new office? I like this look brother.
@@nathanclark3575 it is. I recently moved and started using an actual camera about a year ago
@@TheSpurgeonPiper I remember you moving. Just this shot is distinctly different. Wider angle, the background is a bit different too it seems but that could just be me. Outstanding stuff.
I went with this bag. Its just a little bigger. WYNEX Tactical Large Admin Pouch of Double Layer Design, Molle EDC EMT Utility Pouch with Map Sleeve Modular Tool Pouch Large Capacity Flag Patch Included.
Truths
I can get by with a single pipe, and I smoke 6 or more bowls a day. After every smoke, I clean the pipe very well and place the bowl, minus the stem, in front of a fan. In short order, the pipe is ready for action. I keep a minimum of cake build-up because a thick layer takes longer to dry.
Always a great topic. When I first started I only had one pipe. But as I have quickly expanded my collection, I try to rotate if nothing else, to just use and admire all my pipes.
i like having a bunch of pipes for a variety of tobaccos. 2 virginias, 5 englishes, 2 vapers, 3 aromatics, 1 cherry aro. those are just my nicer pipes. the others are take out on the town, in the field, or on a hike pipes. alternatively, if theres space/money constraints, you should get a handful of cobs and a turkish block meerschaum for home. my two cents.
Depends on the blend, some tend to cause build up, some tobacco if wetter...I let my pipes dry and light clean. Guess it comes down to prefrences.
Hey I’m new to the channel. I’ve been a cigar smoker for a couple years and am now wanting to get into pipes. I’ve followed your advice and have all of the essentials and a few different types of blends on the way. I plan on smoking once or twice a week I just wanted to make sure I understood you right in the fact that I should not worry too much about rotating my two pipes or worry about them getting ghosted. Also could you do a video on the “anatomy” of a pipe and the different styles of bowls, stems, etc. thanks in advance!!
@@alexhall7990 Hey Alex, I'll try to cover that in the future. Thanks!
Fantastic video, very well said. I have been focusing on my pipe rotation the past few moths and have had to answer many of these questions for myself. As life changes so does my pipe and tobacco rotation and the way I approach pipe smoking.
I just recently got very interested in pipe smoking about a month ago and found this channel. I'm very naive and unsure about a lot of the different things to know about pipe smoking. For instance, I smoke one bowl usually in the evening after dinner on the deck everyday. I've heard that you should rotate a pipe after one smoke. I'm not sure how often to clean a pipe with a cadence of once a day or seven times a week
I'm only a few months ahead of you on this pipe smoking journey. I do a light cleaning after every use, and if using the same blend, I'll even use the same pipe for an immediate subsequent smoke. A deeper clean if switching blends. Trial and error, I suppose. And as new as I am to this, it's more like "error and trial." Out of rookie curiosity, what blends do you prefer?
The advanced guys get 7 pipes, one for each day, so each pipe rests for a week. Then they get specific pipes to pair to their favorite blends and only smoke that blend through that dedicated pipe. For example, you wanna get a corn cob pipe to pair with aromatics cause of the natural sweetness of corn. Brairs for most everythiny else, maybe a churchwarden for Hobbit blends (like PS 24 Nougat). As far as cleaning goes, I just run a dry pipe cleaner through my pipe and around the bowl after each smoke, and then once every two weeks maybe I'll run a pipe through with the tip dipped into Everclear, which removes a lot of gunk.
@@nomo9344 I got myself a small amount of a variety I chose to find what I like best. Including: Petersons connoisseur choice, Erin go bragh apple crumble, Cornell & diehl nutty Irishman, and Scotty's milk and honey. I tried every one of them, and the clear winner by miles is the Scotty's milk and honey. The flavor is dynamic, aromatic to the point the chocolatey flavor of the Cavendish pokes through now and then and made my first smoke incredibly enjoyable. The others pale in comparison. It's a blend of bright Virginia, nut-brown burley, and black Cavendish. Absolutely marvelous I highly recommend.
@@rythepineappleguy3160 Thanks for the recommendation! I'll give it a go.
❤loved this video, My rotation is not the same as yours, but I do use a different pipe each day. I also run pipe cleaners from stem to bowl several times each day. Smoke a little over a pound each month. One day a week I spend cleaning all pipes using everclear. That's the day I'll smoke one of my Meershaum pipes.
Just ordered can’t wait to smoke with you
I don’t have many pipes and I smoke everything in all my pipes. I don’t thoroughly clean them often but after a while you can tell when you need to thoroughly clean them. I also don’t smoke very often maybe once or twice a week
It might be helpful in sourcing tobacco. Got to have someone grow it.
