    It seems as though Suri has a weird personal problem with Bethany, which I don't really understand. Lately it seems like she's just judging her personality rather than her dancing but whatever. I like Anna's feedback because she judges on technique and not on whether she likes the contestants or not.

      Well, I did kind of agree with her. I didn't connect with Bethany at all at this point, and it was kind of frustrating to me. Now she is growing on me, and same with Suri if you seen the later episodes. I would've mentioned the same thing. She's just being honest.

    I have to agree with Anna on Allison's lack of awareness when it comes to her partners. When I watch her and Jonathan sometimes I have to ask myself, is she the Pro or the Celeb? She needs to take a look at Sharna and Charlie's partnership from last season, she really showcased him.

    • @hpfan
      @hpfan 10 років тому +3

      I agree. And I say that with love for Allison as a dancer; she's wonderful. But I will say she definitely benefited from having the switch up feature non-ballroom and Latin dances this week, especially Bollywood. She still dances like she's the celeb, but since Bollywood can get away with little partner work and lots of side-by-side, it allowed him to be featured more than Jonathan usually is.

      Valerie Williams I think she should have started off in the troupe. Like Jenna she would get experience doing various kinds of dances and an understanding of how the show works. JMO!

    I think we had a lot of potential with these new couples. I really liked a lot of them, maybe even more than the original pairings. But they got screwed with these dance styles! What happened to just classic ballroom? I think Artem did the best he could with what he was given. Well that goes for all of the pros but burlesque was the most vague. I thought the judges were way too harsh. But at least Jessie J admitted that she had never seen the show before.
    This was the first week that I was genuinely impressed with Bethany. She wasn't timid, or shy, or hesitant. She just went for it with the most confidence we have ever seen from her. Mark clearly did something right. She looked a lot more comfortable then she does with Derek. It's like she finally let loose.

    i don't think you understand that Bethany has put out the most she has ever put out in all her whole five years as a youtuber she never showed us that side she showed us last week so to say she does not show enough is down right wrong that was the first time she showed us tears and emotion its usually smiles and giggles so i think you guys should stop asking for so much of her .....its hard as hell fighting through depression at a young age and so what if there is a wall..its there for a reason and everybody has been throwing stones trying to break it with force and thats not the way you approach a person like her because everyone is going to end up breaking her and that will fuck it.all up ......and stop trying to connect with her like that ....not to be rude but you guys are adults you cannot try and connect on that level with a teenager it wont work look at her progress this aint big brother she does not need to tell everyone her life if you want that...stop judging her and watch her youtube videos i am sorry if i sound rude but i hate how she says the same stuff about her evey week its rude to me because everyone has been doing the same thing and its not fair

    I didn't like Janel's piece either though. It had good potential but didn't deliver. The section in the start captivated me so much and I felt like they weren't able to maintain that level further on in the dance. Her legs looked week in the lifts, but her face sold it like it always does. She and Artem were cute together too.

    I agree with you Suri, Val's choreography is definitely = to Derrick's. I just don't think he's gotten a. enough credit and b. enough opportunities to showcase himself as a choreographer. Lets see him put on a Macy's special for a change. Also, reference, Val and All Star season celebrity had some excellent choreography that season.

    Great to have Jenna back on the panel!
    Bethany and Mark were, I think, the closest we got to what the Switch Up was last season. Again, while we can't necessarily compare Mark and Derek as teachers because Mark taught hip hop whereas Derek is teaching her ballroom and Latin, Mark did bring out some confidence and personality in her that we hadn't seen before. That's what I loved about the Switch Up last season like with Witney and Drew. You could discover some great chemistry with another partner, you could find out that you do learn better (at least differently) with another partner, and it was so interesting. I think they had good chemistry, and Mark has been known to really bring out the confidence/personality in his more reserved celebrities. I wish we got to see what the chemistry, the confidence, and the technique would have been with Mark with a proper ballroom or Latin dance.
    I know Jonathan isn't this dancing aficionado that's been waiting to be unleashed with a different partner. I honestly thought he'd improve with Peta, but 1. they didn't get a ballroom or Latin dance, and 2. 6s were too low. There *was* improvement, and it deserved 7s, I think. He wasn't brilliant, but they should acknowledge his improvement. Same for Michael. His disco wasn't the greatest dance I've ever seen in my life, but his musicality was much better, and I think Witney did a great job with him. Again, I'm not saying they should have given Jonathan or Michael 9s or anything, but 7s wouldn't have been uncalled for when they are showing improvement, and it's clear they are working hard and want to be there.
    I agreed with Julianne that Lea was hesitant. I enjoyed "You Can't Stop the Beat," but I did feel like there were parts that were a little off kilter.

      I have just loved Mark the last two seasons. I feel like he's got a renewed love for the show…his work with Candace and Sadie is spot on. (And loved both seasons of his Switch Up work with Amy and Bethany.)

    Am I the only one who didn't like Sadie's routine? Her feet were flexed the whole dance and it was bugging me. Also, I felt like Derek, being the smart choreographer he is, was trying to cover up her lack of techniques through the cutesy parts. I don't know though. That's just my opinion. It was clean for what it was, but I just felt like she didn't have to do too much. She was given too much praise for fairly okay dance, in my opinion. (but comparing to the other dances this week, i guess it ranked higher most of the others)

    • @RobertoRevAng
      @RobertoRevAng 10 років тому +2

      I completely agreed with you, because you need really use the point your feet during the Charleston. Which make it weird that the judges weren't talking about it while they were pint pointing every other couple.

    • @jandreidrn
      @jandreidrn 10 років тому +5

      I blame the shoes. They gave the illusion that she's flexing her feet. She's not wearing heels, probably because she'll tower over Derek if she did.

    • @KristynBurtt
      @KristynBurtt 10 років тому +10

      ChuckRazor A traditional Charleston does not have pointed toes, so she was doing it accurately…and I think that's why the judges didn't mention it.

    • @maureencurrie4453
      @maureencurrie4453 10 років тому +7

      For me, she was too rigid. A Charleston has bent knees and a bend at the waist. Derek had the form. Sadie was too straight and with the lanky legs and torso, it took away from the dance. She nailed the steps, sync, and personality of the dance, but technically ,I was surprized that the crical judges didn't call her on her posture.

    Jessie James Decker is the sweetest person, I have ever seen. She and her husband Eric have their reality show on E! called Jessie and Eric Game on!. Karina will bounce back from this injury. I think the producers were nervous heading into the switch up week. Why else was this a non elimination week. I cant believe how harsh the judges were this week. They werent harsh in any other week. Was it cause of the switch up week that it was? I watch Strictly to see Tristian too. I agree with Anna as for as the States goes, that is a nice present. I think the celebrities were pissed when Master P got a 4 that week. I also agree with Jenna, I think there was a conservation cause of the fact that its still too early to get 10s. The way they gave out 10s it was like we were at the semifinals already.

  • @jandreidrn
    @jandreidrn 10 років тому +16

    Best of the night was Sadie, Bethany and Alfonso. Bethany made a huge improvement this week. She's got a different vibe than the previous weeks and seems to have grown some swag; different from the sugary sweet persona that somehow made the people (myself included) disconnect with her.. Sadie, wow the girl's keep impressing me. She's born to dance the Charleston. Alfonso, while there are some imperfect steps, he's more than made it up with his awe-inspiring musicality. And he's underscored, along with Bethany.
    Lea's routine lacked energy for me. Janel's was a step down from her Jazz routine. Felt like she didn't got much challenge. Michael, Tommy, Jonathan: HARSH CRITIQUES. Thought they didn't deserve that beatdown from the judges.

    • @ronmartin4244
      @ronmartin4244 10 років тому +4

      Agree with most of what you said Chuck, I thought Sadie had the best dance of the night, With Alfonso and Bethany wright behind her. I think as Jenna said the Burlesque was hard for Artem to do, Burlesque is a Ladies dance that he had to work himself into, The lifts where great but I do have to say that chair work was a little over the top.
      And omg where the Judges harsh tonight or what, what the hell do they expect anymore, You bring celebs on the show who have 0 exp in this kind of dance and then just smash them on national TV, I think there setting up to move Michael off the show next week no matter how much the Nascar nation is voting for him, I can see Jonathan maybe hanging one more week if not two because Tommy will go after Michael, I just don't believe It's in the fans hands.
      Also getting so tired of the Judges making comments about the music when they KNOW dam well most of the songs are given to the Pro's and they have no choice but to do something with them.

    • @jandreidrn

      I will not be surprised if either Jonathan, Michael, Antonio or Tommy will get the boot next week. Lea, Janel, Bethany, Sadie and Alfonso are probably safe.
      Seriously, the only real shocking eliminations for me will be Alfonso and Sadie. IMO, they're both headed for the finals. Lea, Janel and Bethany, while probably has the potentials to go all the way, I will not be surprised if some of them will get eliminated at the semi-finals.

    • @ronmartin4244
      @ronmartin4244 10 років тому +4

      ChuckRazor This season is Alfonso to lose. I really think he walks away with it, Sadie a close second, pickem for the rest of the order, But as always we know Front runner does not always win, And the freestyle win play a major factor as it should. And yea That would be a huge shocker if one of the front runners where eliminated but We both know ABC would not let that happen.

    • @danielleleo9808

      ChuckRazor
      Chuck - I do think either Jonathan, Antonio or Tommy will be the next to go and thinking it will be Jonathan. I think Mike has a lot more fans voting for him than people realize and we may be stuck with him a few more weeks. I fully expect Alfonso and Sadie to be the final two so I agree they would be the most shocking elimination to me. I've said all along either Janel or Bethany will be in the finals but not both so one of them has to go. I want to see Lea in the finals but just hope people are voting for her.

    Watching Strictly at the same time as DWTS is interesting. Len is the nice judge on Strictly. I wish DWTS would have the same format, where the bottom two couples do a dance off and the judges have the final say. That way it isn't all about the size of your fan base.

    • @KristynBurtt

      Check out Strictly. They have similar dance routines, Len and Bruno say similar things, there is definitely co-ordination between the two dance shows. Plus the "mean judge" Craig is a riot - and hands out 2,3 and 4 paddles routinely. I think that's why Jesse J got confused when giving her first score.

      heather loughman i have to say i really think strictly have nailed the judging i think dwts needs to change to there style much more enjoyable and fair- this week the judging was just so boring to listen to they were just so negative its an entertainment tv show not a pro ballroom competition lighten up!! lol

  • @Meg77337
    @Meg77337 10 років тому +6

    i think you guys were slightly wrong about something this week
    In the US the judges are giving out normally high scores but espesh this week there comments are so negative they don't talk about what has improved where as in the UK strictly will comment more fairly and leave the celeb with a bit of a positive (watch Darcy as a judge i think she is perfect at commenting well) but the scores will be the level that they danced then when a 10 appears its an outstanding routine and not in week 2 or whatever was this season. personally i think this is better but i get what you mean if people are used to the scores throwing around a 3 might make some people mad!
    loved jenna on the show this week fingers crossed shes a pro next season :)

    • @RobertoRevAng
      @RobertoRevAng 10 років тому +5

      The should give in the beginning of the season a much lower scores like from 4 till 7/8. That will boost the contestants to be better than last week, so you will see a growth in the scores. Right know the scores are so random, it pisses me off!

      Meg ud compares a Cha cha cha between DWTS and SCD, and there are more techniques on DWTS because they are more perfectionists, I saw SCD and have been disappointed, I think the SCD dancers act as rookies.

    • @Meg77337
      @Meg77337 10 років тому +1

      no i would agree there is a very different level of dance in SCD and DWTS, its much higher in the US i would agree, but i generally prefer the judging in the UK. DWTS has such impressive opening numbers and very impressive skill level
      SCD is much more silly and camp than DWTS, DWTS has much more production and the troupe to add. saying that tho SCD is number 1 show in the UK and there is even a spin off show every day in the week where they look at rehearsal packages and chat about all the dances so its kind of loved for its silly ness over here.
      I think julianne was a mistake for the judging panel it needs some one with a bit of humour i think Maks would have been better personally and i dont like the guest judges
      ( check out janette and jake salsa from this season in SCD tho its pretty awesome jake is a soap star with no experience and its great)

    • @alexrojas8720
      @alexrojas8720 10 років тому +2

      Meg D I'm watching this season, unfortunately and was eliminated Tristan, if I believe that judges in SCD are more fair, and that's because most dancers do not have high standing in the program and no time to favoritism, as is the case happens in DWTS with Derek, old school only Brendan & Anton

    • @Meg77337
      @Meg77337 10 років тому +1

      yeah you dont have the dancers so much as celebs thats very true, i think derek prob has more twitter followers than half the celebs
      (also i love anton i think he will be 70 before he stops being a pro)

  • @RobertoRevAng
    @RobertoRevAng 10 років тому +5

    Wow girls, great show today! Every section was discussed very great, especially Anna's point about Allison being a fantastic solo dancer, she struggles with to be a teacher and partner with a non-trained dancer in a Ballroom competition.
    I also think that Sadie a top 2 contender is, with her combination of stardom, personality, technique and fan base ( even though she is not my favourite)
    Question to all of you: What do you think that in the past couple of seasons, not every couple or not even, dance all the 10-dances in this show? It started in season 16, but nobody is talking about, which I am pretty sad about it. Especially the Waltz and the paso doble are almost disappearing from the show.

    I thought the judges were a little harsh this week. I was really annoyed that Carrie Ann was calling out Emma and Tommy for their music. She should know that how things work. Also, I am not sure I really like Julianne as a judge. These past few weeks, she has been bringing some negative energy. I have to say that I really miss Len. He can be harsh, but I think he sometimes can point out something good.

    Alfonso has been underscored the whole season so he won't run away with it. I thought Val and Lea's routine was one of the most enjoyable of any season. The two young'un's are both good but it is mostly their fan base that will get them into the final. That and Mark and Derek who are so popular. I really feel for Jonathan but the boy just cannot dance. Neither can Michael but they both try hard. Tommy did look tired and totally without energy which I think hurt him. I wish Tommy would make the finals but it looks like Alfonso, Lea, Sadie and Bethany.

    I am disappointed in Suri's comments regarding Bethany. It seems almost hateful and that surprises me coming from her. Bethany is doing a pretty good job in my opinion and Suri really does not offer any concrete critic of her dancing just that she is not feeling it. I'm really not sure the switch-up is a good idea. I like it in theory but I think it just makes for some uncomfortable dances and situations and a lot of extra pressure on the pros and celebs that isn't necessary. This episode was not fun to watch between the judges attitude and then the dances themselves. The stand outs to me were Sadie, Alfonso, and Lea. I agree with Kristyn that this was the first week I connected to Bethany and thought she handled the dance very well. Was it on the level of a hip-hop from say Zendaya? No, but she still did well with it. My heart goes out to the Antonio, Jonathan, and Michael's of the competition though. You can tell they are trying SO hard.
    I agree with Suri though that my least favorite of the night was probably Janel. It has nothing to do with whether or not it was too raunchy or not burlesque enough but more of the fact that I don't think I've really seen this talent they keep saying she has. She's a good performer and she can play a character but the actual dancing doesn't impress me that much. I think she has weak legs and she doesn't finish her movements and I think Val (or Artem) uses a lot of smoke and mirrors and I haven't seen much progression from week 1. Her fan base will keep her around for a while though. Unfortunately I think Jonathan might go next week.

    • @christinamcgrann26
      @christinamcgrann26 10 років тому +4

      Yeah I think I'm just over Janel and her schtick. Whether that's just her personality or the storyline/arc the producers are forcing upon her I don't know but I feel like I've seen everything she has to offer.

      Christina McGrann It seems to me the producers are using Janel for the "sexy' vibe and she is not growing in other areas. Maybe because Peta has an older celeb this season, they need a sexy woman and she is the only one that fits the bill. Would love to see her do someting more elegant because it is getting too same'ol same 'ol for all of us. Artem did her no favors by choreographing that dance the way that he did, but i think she was doomed from the start this week when they assigned her burlesque. Val needs to realize that she needs more ballroom and he needs improve on the finishing of her lines.

      Kristyn Burtt I agree! I think the switch up was better last season because they were all doing ballroom dances, none of the theatrics (burlesque, broadway, charleston, hip hop etc.). The most memorable was Meryl and Val's Argentine Tango, THAT WAS A DANCE!!!!! The dances that were done this week should have been left for the freestyle dance, period point blank!

      Chris M. Exactly how I felt. The reason the Switch Up worked last season so well, even with the inferior contestants, was because there was a legitimate threat that the new partnerships could produce some great chemistry, or that learning a different way from a different partner would work better and show some improvement. It also lent way for each celebrity to not only appreciate their professional partner and the relationship that they have, but to have appreciation for the partnerships and grind the other celebrities go through with their partners. By giving them these non-ballroom or Latin dances felt like a huge cop out, completely out of sync with the rest of the season. Meryl and Val's Argentine Tango was still, I think, the best dance of that entire season. Meryl was a goddess and could do anything, but she learned to work well with Val, they had good chemistry, and the choreography was great! Same with Witney and Drew -- Witney really brought out something in Drew that perhaps Cheryl's teaching hadn't before, and she got him his highest scores that week. That's what the switch up is all about. The closest we got this season was Mark and Bethany, who seemed to help bring out a confidence and performance from her we hadn't seen before with his teaching style. But since it was hip hop, it's hard to compare that when Derek usually teaches her actual ballroom and Latin.

    The switch up should've been interesting on paper but in practice it's a huge mess. But I don't blame the concept, it's the people that made last night a huge mess. I'm looking at you judges.

      yes i think the judges may have ruined the switch up now! i also think its more interesting if its normal ballroom instead of all the random styles! (p.s wheres paso this season!)

    A very joyless hard to watch week, all due to the judges. That's all I got.

    I just have to say, before watching this fabulous panel, that the Switch Up this time around was a major disappointment. I love the idea, and I think it really went well last season. But this season, they completely copped out by not having the pros teach their one-week partners a ballroom or Latin dance. And part of me thinks that it was done to help protect the egos of the professionals. That's just an opinion that could be very wrong. But I heard that the pros don't like the Switch Up, and with the potential to inspire chemistry with another partner or dancing growth with another partner, the jealousy was an actual, real threat. This year, it felt diluted because they didn't have the actual ballroom/Latin dances, and if this new pro got better scores with a new partner, it wouldn't have felt as big a deal because they weren't being taught traditional technique from the new pro. I think it was a blessing for Allison though. She got to dance something she has experience doing frequently, and she finally looked like a pro, and because of the genre, she didn't have to worry much about choreographing to feature her partner because a lot of it was side by side. And I honestly thought the judges were needlessly harsh with some of the contestants...which fuels my crazy conspiracy theory that the pros hate the switch and want to do away with it. Anyway...onto the episode!

    The Americans want their dress sizes low and scores high. That's why DWTS is si different than Strictly. American audience doesn't want to see low scores.

    The judges sucked the fun right out of the show and the switch-up. Not to mention, at moments, they were down right mean. If there was any time for them to go a little easy on the scores, this would be the week. How do you go from 10's in week 3 to 5's on a switch-up night with dances that aren't ballroom. A mess.

      Well, people were commenting on Facebook that the judges were scoring to high in these days. Which I prefer, because like come on perfect scores on week 3 & 4???

      bearsensei123 I agree that they gave out 10's way too early (I might even say those perfect scores in week 3 weren't deserved), but why make up for it on a switch-up week? With THESE dances? That's putting too much on both the pros and the celebs. I've never been completely turned off by "judging" before, but this was too much. They were harsh at times.

      stilltomsfriend Yeah they were on some weird water, but I thought that Jessie J was a good guest judge. She was maybe critical, but you must know she is a fan of Strictly Come Dancing UK. They are brutal there!

    the "Switch-Up" would be like week 1, therefore there would be "10".
    really, had connection between Alfonso and Cheryl, had many expectations on them, yeah I had to pick the best dance of the evening, I Would choose the Flamenco.
    Charleston?, was not Charleston, and Sadie seemed very rigid, totally overscore, more of the same
    Beth seemed to smile more when she was with Mark, I liked this combination, but not his "Hip-hop".
    Emma found it difficult (and doubly). she is paired with an old man who must make a Mambo and the song was more to a style of samba, poor Emma, I saw the frustration in his eyes made flesh.
    The jitterbug, definitely the most difficult dance of the night, and still was completely "underscored" Peta almost breaks his neck, but deserved 7.
    Bollywood dancing was not the best, but it was a good dance, Antonio lost some stiffness and Allison hid some of that strength that she has, she sometimes seems "man" with heels, very difficult for Antonio because he did not know do, whether to follow the steps or smile. LOL
    very good dance the "Burlesque" by Janel, is the same dance Cabaret, but is more of the same for Janel, all routines (except Rumba) have been focused towards Jazz, thank God this week will be different.
    the "broadway" by Leah, I do not know how to differentiate of the Jazz, honestly I did not like at all, Val and Leah being one of my favorites this season. I could not understand the chemistry between them.
    Michael, Michael, Michael, he tries but does not advance, at least I think that will be one more week, compared with the score of the bottom of the table, he has more fan, I think Jonathan go home.
    I thought this week would be great , because each dancer made his specialty dances outside the Salon, I was liked the routines in this order, Flamenco, Burlesque, Hip Hop, Charleston, Bollywood, Broadway, Jitterbug, Disco and Mambo

    Oh shut up Suri dont know what drugs youre on. Val may be a great choreographer but no one, just no one comes even close to Derek Hough. Derek has a class of his own, unmatched and unparalleled. And that's just it.
