I'm glad Mark is getting the kudos he deserves. I put him in the same boat as Val with the 'little brother' syndrome (Derek is basically Mark's older brother) where they sometimes get lost/forgotten in terms of talent and what they bring to the show because people are always talking about Derek and Maks. It makes me smile.
Well, so I have nothing to add really since I agreed with everything you guys have said!! Love that Sharna gave kudos to Mark for his choreography... Guy's on fire this season!!
OMG! How I missed Sharna on Afterbuzz!!! I love her so much! About the dances, I was very glad for this week! It's the first time I watched all the dances till the end (I couldn't take Antonio - hey! he isn't latin but so isn't Gilles Marini [from season 8, please], but this one had the "latin swag" in his boddy - and Johnathan "dancing")! I'm glad Johnathan left on a high note. Saddie & Mark rumba was so cute that filled my heart of sweetness love! I feel since last season that Mark are "back on the game", because he's showing that he's enjoying it again. Plus, I'm so in love with Saddie. (I think she's gonna be the runner-up this season, because it's already Alfonso's MBT - and I'm rooting for him - if any injury stop him) Never felt connected to Bethany, but I have to say that I'm very proud of this young lady and what she has accomplished so far in this competition. I know it's not easy at all. So, Go Bethany! She's in pretty good hands though. About Val.... I adore him, but I think since Zendaya (who was 16 when she attended the show though) he kinda lost the balance among some things that I don't really know yet, but he lost it. I mean, he doesn't need a "showmance" to showcase his partner and him, he's better than that. It's like TPTB is trying to force Val into Maks' shoes, if you know what I mean... I am so glad that they are finally giving praise to Mark this season! I feel sometimes Mark is drowned out by Derek (kinda like Val and Maks) and I don't understand it!! Mark is an amazing choreographer and an AWESOME singer/musician. Also really glad to see Sharna back on ABTV! She has been one of my favourite female dancers since she was in the troupe S13. When Anna said "we can't hear you", in regards to the complaints about them not connecting to Bethany, I laughed. Anna, the timing on that statement was perfect, and all of you ladies did a great job on the show!

Love that Witney is getting some love here. She is young and still somewhat new to all of this but she is working her tail off this season. She is just doing amazing work with Alfonso. Yeah, she is experiencing some uncomfortable bumps along the way but that's life and she is handling it pretty great, I'd say. I'm sure it helps that Alfonso seems to be this really nice guy who lends a lot of support when needed but still...
Witney is SO amazing. I've watched her since the beginning on SYTYCD&she was born be a pro dancer on this show. Her talent&work ethic at such a young age is a gift.
I think everything just got to her and she just bubbled and it just bubbled over. The fact she was upset about letting people down just shows what type of person she is.
Lovely seeing Sharna on the show again!! BTW, is it true that Karina will be indefinitely sidelined for the rest of the season? I was hoping she could come by and guest on AfterBuzz. Please let it happen, KB!!
I'm hearing that she needs to be careful with the injury. I'm hoping to see her back on DWTS by the finale. I've tried to get Karina numerous times via her publicist. You guys need to mount a Twitter campaign at this point because I get no response. :( We would LOVE to have her.

Tommy made a good comeback and had that smile going again. Alfonso was great as usual and actually got some scores to back it up. I don't like Sadie's package but Mark has done a good job with her and her dancing has improved and I like it. Bethany is getting stronger also and Mr. Derek has a lot to do with that. Lea and Jannel are both good but didn't stand out. Michael has improved a lot and I love Emma and the sweetness she exudes but he is running out of time. Antonio has never done anything for me even though I know he has improved.
I feel so bad for Janel and Payson (her boyfriend). They were in a serious relationship for a long time. It's hard enough to go through a breakup, and to learn to adjust without the other. It must be so much worse when everyone is trying to give their two cents about it. They are two adults, who chose to broke up. They both chose to be mature with the situation, everyone else should too. It may have been because of Val, it may have not been. But either way, it isn't our business.
I agree that it's definitely not our business and we have no idea why they broke up and I assume it's much bigger than the show BUT, at the same time, I don't think the show helped and seeing her with Val each week. I do put some blame on Janel and Val for playing into the showmance also. Editing of their package is one thing but during interviews when they play it coy about their relationship and don't just say they are friends and partners is on them. Also all the pictures they post, etc, if you are going to do that you have to prepared for the negative comments that will come with it. I just wish they would focus on the dancing more as she has the potential but she's just not there yet for me.
Toni Stella No one really knows how much the producers insist on their making a showmance. It seems that she was not trying to hide the fact that she had a boyfriend on social media. She posted pictures of flowers and gifts during the first couple of weeks. Maybe that is when the relationship started to go south. I don't think it is fair to blame anyone when it is personal business. It is not really fair to make comments about how difficult it is for a guy to have a girlfriend on the show and to wait 5 weeks and come back. It plants a seed of speculation. There are many reasons why couples break up. It happens millions of times a day for every reason under the sun.

The editors can only edit footage provided to them, so Janel and Val have to take some responsibility in pushing the showmance in order for the show to have the footage to edit in the first place. But I don't believe for a second that Janel/Val haven't been pushing people to think there is something going on there because it's not just the show. It's been their social media usage and their interviews and etc. So unless we are going to claim that people are also editing their interviews, it's not all editing. Also when you put yourself out there on a reality show and play showmance, don't be surprised when people are talking about your private life. Especially when said boyfriend announced the break-up publicly on instagram, which was done for the sake of the fans. That surely wasn't for Janel's benefit. I remember week 1 result show there was a clip of Janel and Val in the backstage hugging, and suddenly they were captured "kissing" which both have told it was on the cheek, and the camera angle. They are both grown ups, if either one of them would be against doing the showmance they would say it. People can say that they are not trying to do somekinda of romantical relationship, but to me that's what it seems. Janel can't expect fans not to blame the breakup on Val, cause not once did she mention on dwts she had a bf. We dont know for sure the breakup was because of Val, but at the same time we dont know that it wasnt. I think they are good dancers, but i hate how the show is more focused on their "relationship"
Let's be honest...Val is desperate to win and is playing up this showmance because he thinks it is what people want to see (probably because of Maksyl). At the finale last season he said he wants to win badly and at the start of this season he said he was going to go for the chemistry angle. Just let it happen naturally buddy. Also agree with the other posters that Janel can't have her cake and eat it too. If you are going to participate in a showmance and then your ex-boyfriend publicly announce the break-up don't be surprised if questions arise.
i have to say that janel's boyfriend had every right to be pissed. Sadie has a boyfriend and you don't see her rubbing up on mark. Janel was very inappropriate with how she touches val.
Jessika c so there's a thing called respect. how would like it f your boyfriend/girlfriend kept flirting with someone else and grabbing them every second? don't even pretend you wouldn't get fed up.
Janel is obviously just a touchy feely person and its DANCE you have get into character and do those things. so saying she didn't "respect " her boyfriend is a little much considering other people have been on the show and have also been In Relationships and had to dance that way. You can't compare her to Sadie either she's 17 janel is 25 so they're going to dance differently
Could you possibly address what is going on with the scoring that is happening this season? Slips, misteps, bent legs, bad posture and they are handing out high scores to those who do those things, and the ones that don't they are getting scored low. in past seasons the couple who have had the slips bent legs etc. they would have gotten the comments from the judges and points taken off. but now they are getting praised. I don't get what is going on this season.
Valerie Williams Maybe Val should have gotten tips from Mark on how to choreograph an age-appropriate rumba. He's done it 3 times now, Mark's an old pro for that!
Its always interesting to hear the after-comments from all of you. Thanks for another enjoyable show. Just a comment: a lot seems to be made of the 'youth' of Sadie and Bethany excusing them from many obvious performance flaws. I'm not positive, but I think Julianne was 18 when she became a pro on the show. I believe Lindsay and Whitney were the same. Many of the "Disney kids" who've been contestants were that age or a year older/younger. Bethany & Sadie are both seeking their 15 minutes of fame or they wouldn't be on DWTS. So, why is it they skate through the critiques? I really think the reason this is such a blah season has a lot to do with who the producers have declared 'untouchable'.
15 minutes of fame, Really? Bethany, 7+ mil followers, Her own clothing line, Her own perfume, Travels all over the world. Sadie, you may have heard of a little show she is on " Duck Dynasty " Think you got it backword, They don't need DWTS, DWTS needs them.
Great episode. I love seeing Sharna. I thought Pitbull was REALLY into Witney more than anyone else. There was a lot of admiring the booty going on but who can blame him? Also, I kinda hate that when Anna is there Suri speaks a lot less. Wish there was a way to keep it balanced since Anna takes ages to get to her points and I find Suri to have interesting points of view.
Suri is the pro dancer's hack. That's all she talks about, I love Derek, I love Val, so and so is doing such a great job. And then of course we get that famous Suri line "I am just not connecting with Bethany." Sheesh, now that's insightful. She and Carrie Anne must have gone to the same dance judge school. Give me Anna's evaluations any day.
Yesenia Hernandez Admittedly, Anna is a bit wordy, However, I like how she shares her experiences from the show and she is very knowledgeable with regards to dance. Maybe it's a 2nd language thing. English being her 2nd language, she may be overly careful to express her thoughts appropriately.
Again, I would agree with you if it wasn't her going into tangents and taking up everyone else's time. I'm a huge fan of her dancing. I just wouldn't mind hearing less of her personal life and that's just how I feel about it. I tend to skip over those parts but the show only has an hour. I want that hour filled with DWTS convo. But that's just me.
Yesenia Hernandez You make valid points regarding Anna, but I would much rather have her wordy descriptions and tangents than listen to Suri and her not feeling it statements which could be delivered by a guest judge . I watch Afterbuzz for the expert's evaluations. Anna delivers that for me. What are Suri's bonafides anyway? I think Kristyn does a great job moderating this and is the main reason I watch Afterbuzz along with the dancers views. I do see your point though.
Val competed in the IDSF/WDSF and many times when I watch their competitions it's like watch a sporting competition and not a dancing competition. Too many times it look like robots going through intricate movements. Nothing against Val, he's a great dancer but I think the WDSF put too much emphasis on the sport of dance and not enough on the art of dance. When I watched their dance I said wow looks like Val is in a competition mode. That's OK if his partner is a trained dancer too. Janel is not and so I agreed with Pittbull.
I have always liked Mark, but how he has worked with Sadie this year is just doubles my respect for him. Great pairing DWTS! I don't understand all this love for Michael and Tommy. Michael is absolutely creepy and criminally inept. He should have gone home the 2nd week. It certainly proves to me that NASCAR fans dont know anything other than left turns. While I like Tommy, and recognize he is 76 years old, he really doesn't dance,,he just kind of stands around watching Peta. Lea was underscored in my opinion and it irritates me that all you guys keep saying you can tell how she's feeling by looks on her face. That's crap, she looked supremely confident to me.
Geórgia BR Yes, I did. I think she has probably been the best guest judge this year. She may not officially be a dancer but she knows musicality and synchronization and most of her thoughts had validity in my uninformed opinion :).

Geórgia BR Yes, I know exactly what you mean. She was better at comments matching scores than the real judges in my opinion. Julie Anne and Carrie Anne are quite often way off and Bruno is a clown. Len is the only real judge here even though I don't always agree with him.

I think Sadie shouldnt have been casted on this show. This week is a good example of it. I knew her family is so religious but yet hate gay people. I think its more her over protective daddy and her VERY nosy grandfather who had problems with the Rumba. I mean I think they didnt understand what they send Sadie into to get viewers for Duck Dynasty. Mark is a god to put with that family this cycle.
Amen Valerie, I like Sadie but the point that crossed the line for me was when her nosy grandfather insisted that 12 hours before LIVE taping, Mark had to REDO the rumba. I mean come on, their show is fake its basically a sitcom that tries to pass as a reality show. What did they want her experience on the show to be the same thing? that is why I said Mark is a god to put up with what he did. Zendaya Coleman was fun last cycle with him and she is the same age.
Valerie Williams Why should Mark have asked not to do the rumba? What he choreographed was sweet, innocent and appropriately sensual. Perfect style for Sadie and in keeping with her family's wishes.

The grandfather, not Sadie or other members of the family, spoke out about his belief in what the bible says regarding gay actvity/marriage. It's one man's opinion, not policy for Christ's sake. You need to read more than just the headlines.
Valerie Williams Yes, I think she was a bit uncomfortable with the thought of the rumba. I mean it is an intimate, sexy dance and most 17 year old girls would probably have some angst in performing it, particularly on TV in front of millions of people. I also believe that most 17 year olds just don't have the life experiences to do a traditional rumba. What Mark put together was perfect for this young lady and she delivered. She is the most naturally gifted celeb dancer this show has ever presented. Ballas deserves huge props for what he is doing with her and if I had my way she would take home the MBT. Her improvement week to week is just mind boggling and how she is handling the pressure is just a lesson for us all. I submit, she has comported herself much better than Zendaya did in season 16. We are going to see great things from Sadie and not just in dance.

I'd feel far worse for Janel and Payson if they had both conducted their business privately in the first place.
I remember week 1 result show there was a clip of Janel and Val in the backstage hugging, and suddenly they were captured "kissing" which both have told it was on the cheek, and the camera angle. They are both grown ups, if either one of them would be against doing the showmance they would say it. People can say that they are not trying to do somekinda of romantical relationship, but to me that's what it seems. Janel can't expect fans not to blame the breakup on Val, cause not once did she mention on dwts she had a bf. We dont know for sure the breakup was because of Val, but at the same time we dont know that it wasnt. I think they are good dancers, but i hate how the show is more focused on their "relationship"
Let's be honest...Val is desperate to win and is playing up this showmance because he thinks it is what people want to see (probably because of Maksyl). At the finale last season he said he wants to win badly and at the start of this season he said he was going to go for the chemistry angle. Just let it happen naturally buddy. Also agree with the other posters that Janel can't have her cake and eat it too. If you are going to participate in a showmance and then your ex-boyfriend publicly announce the break-up don't be surprised if questions arise.

i have to say that janel's boyfriend had every right to be pissed. Sadie has a boyfriend and you don't see her rubbing up on mark. Janel was very inappropriate with how she touches val.

so there's a thing called respect. how would like it f your boyfriend/girlfriend kept flirting with someone else and grabbing them every second? don't even pretend you wouldn't get fed up.
Janel is obviously just a touchy feely person and its DANCE you have get into character and do those things. so saying she didn't "respect " her boyfriend is a little much considering other people have been on the show and have also been In Relationships and had to dance that way. You can't compare her to Sadie either she's 17 janel is 25 so they're going to dance differently
Could you possibly address what is going on with the scoring that is happening this season? Slips, misteps, bent legs, bad posture and they are handing out high scores to those who do those things, and the ones that don't they are getting scored low. in past seasons the couple who have had the slips bent legs etc. they would have gotten the comments from the judges and points taken off. but now they are getting praised. I don't get what is going on this season.
I feel like we go in circles on this every season. It's frustrating. Last week's mean judging upset me.
Boy, do I agree with both Peggy and Kristyn. Pretty obvious this season what the network intends to happen.

Just a comment: a lot seems to be made of the 'youth' of Sadie and Bethany excusing them from many obvious performance flaws. I'm not positive, but I think Julianne was 18 when she became a pro on the show. I believe Lindsay and Whitney were the same. Many of the "Disney kids" who've been contestants were that age or a year older/younger. Bethany & Sadie are both seeking their 15 minutes of fame or they wouldn't be on DWTS. So, why is it they skate through the critiques? I really think the reason this is such a blah season has a lot to do with who the producers have declared 'untouchable'.
15 minutes of fame, Really? Bethany, 7+ mil followers, Her own clothing line, Her own perfume, Travels all over the world. Sadie, you may have heard of a little show she is on " Duck Dynasty " Think you got it backword, They don't need DWTS, DWTS needs them.
Great episode. I love seeing Sharna. I thought Pitbull was REALLY into Witney more than anyone else. There was a lot of admiring the booty going on but who can blame him? Also, I kinda hate that when Anna is there Suri speaks a lot less. Wish there was a way to keep it balanced since Anna takes ages to get to her points and I find Suri to have interesting points of view.
Suri is the pro dancer's hack. That's all she talks about, I love Derek, I love Val, so and so is doing such a great job. And then of course we get that famous Suri line "I am just not connecting with Bethany." Sheesh, now that's insightful. She and Carrie Anne must have gone to the same dance judge school. Give me Anna's evaluations any day.

Yesenia Hernandez Admittedly, Anna is a bit wordy, However, I like how she shares her experiences from the show and she is very knowledgeable with regards to dance. Maybe it's a 2nd language thing. English being her 2nd language, she may be overly careful to express her thoughts appropriately.
Again, I would agree with you if it wasn't her going into tangents and taking up everyone else's time. I'm a huge fan of her dancing. I just wouldn't mind hearing less of her personal life and that's just how I feel about it. I tend to skip over those parts but the show only has an hour. I want that hour filled with DWTS convo. But that's just me.
Yesenia Hernandez You make valid points regarding Anna, but I would much rather have her wordy descriptions and tangents than listen to Suri and her not feeling it statements which could be delivered by a guest judge . I watch Afterbuzz for the expert's evaluations. Anna delivers that for me. What are Suri's bonafides anyway? I think Kristyn does a great job moderating this and is the main reason I watch Afterbuzz along with the dancers views. I do see your point though.
Suri is so right about Lea. I watch her dance and she is so good but I feel like she can do better.

Val competed in the IDSF/WDSF and many times when I watch their competitions it's like watch a sporting competition and not a dancing competition. Too many times it look like robots going through intricate movements. Nothing against Val, he's a great dancer but I think the WDSF put too much emphasis on the sport of dance and not enough on the art of dance. When I watched their dance I said wow looks like Val is in a competition mode. That's OK if his partner is a trained dancer too. Janel is not and so I agreed with Pittbull.
I have always liked Mark, but how he has worked with Sadie this year is just doubles my respect for him. Great pairing DWTS! I don't understand all this love for Michael and Tommy. Michael is absolutely creepy and criminally inept. He should have gone home the 2nd week. It certainly proves to me that NASCAR fans dont know anything other than left turns. While I like Tommy, and recognize he is 76 years old, he really doesn't dance,,he just kind of stands around watching Peta. Lea was underscored in my opinion and it irritates me that all you guys keep saying you can tell how she's feeling by looks on her face. That's crap, she looked supremely confident to me.
I think the thing about Tommy is because he seems to really be having fun out there.

Geórgia BR Yes, I did. I think she has probably been the best guest judge this year. She may not officially be a dancer but she knows musicality and synchronization and most of her thoughts had validity in my uninformed opinion :).

Geórgia BR Yes, I know exactly what you mean. She was better at comments matching scores than the real judges in my opinion. Julie Anne and Carrie Anne are quite often way off and Bruno is a clown. Len is the only real judge here even though I don't always agree with him.

I think Sadie shouldnt have been casted on this show. This week is a good example of it. I knew her family is so religious but yet hate gay people. I think its more her over protective daddy and her VERY nosy grandfather who had problems with the Rumba. I mean I think they didnt understand what they send Sadie into to get viewers for Duck Dynasty. Mark is a god to put with that family this cycle.
Amen Valerie, I like Sadie but the point that crossed the line for me was when her nosy grandfather insisted that 12 hours before LIVE taping, Mark had to REDO the rumba. I mean come on, their show is fake its basically a sitcom that tries to pass as a reality show. What did they want her experience on the show to be the same thing? that is why I said Mark is a god to put up with what he did. Zendaya Coleman was fun last cycle with him and she is the same age.

The grandfather, not Sadie or other members of the family, spoke out about his belief in what the bible says regarding gay actvity/marriage. It's one man's opinion, not policy for Christ's sake. You need to read more than just the headlines.
Valerie Williams Yes, I think she was a bit uncomfortable with the thought of the rumba. I mean it is an intimate, sexy dance and most 17 year old girls would probably have some angst in performing it, particularly on TV in front of millions of people. I also believe that most 17 year olds just don't have the life experiences to do a traditional rumba. What Mark put together was perfect for this young lady and she delivered. She is the most naturally gifted celeb dancer this show has ever presented. Ballas deserves huge props for what he is doing with her and if I had my way she would take home the MBT. Her improvement week to week is just mind boggling and how she is handling the pressure is just a lesson for us all. I submit, she has comported herself much better than Zendaya did in season 16. We are going to see great things from Sadie and not just in dance.
