Very interesting week here. Good afterbuzz show as always ladies/guy :) I'm very glad we got Henry he always has great insights seems like such a nice guy and I do love looking at him haha! It's better when he's dancing on the show coz he's so good but I'll take what I can get lol. Bummer about Sasha not being here but glad he's out dancing hopefully it's something we'll get to see :) Missed Julz too. How I felt this week: At first I felt that Candace was underscored again but I do agree that it's probably because her nervousness is visible during the dance unlike Nene who owns whatever she's given even if I Candace is doing more technical stuff. I love Candace and really want her to go far. I hope those nerves sort themselves out. Charlie underscored again. Not going to lie, it's beginning to bug me but it will make his scores when he does ballroom like waltz, Foxtrot etc. even sweeter 'cos I bet the scores will finally be appropriate. Amy was amazing!! She continues to wow me. Such a fun routine too. Dance of the night to me even though Meryl's was perfect and beautiful, Amy's stuck with me. Poor Derek with his elbow. I'm glad the injury was not more serious. Aww James the super bent knees with bum out was obvious to me. Not his week but I still think he's amazing and can't wait for him to redeem himself. Although I'm not sure the Samba will redeem him since it's so hard but I would love for him to prove me wrong. First impressions of the group has me thinking Team Meryl has the edge but let's not write anyone off. It is live TV afterall. Anything can happen. Macy's performace made me want to dance! It was like a concert. I loved it. At times it was hard to see with the crowd but I loved it.
So glad to see the positive comments on the Maks/Meryl rehearsal package. I think Maks has been given a bad rap all these years because people misinterpret how he says things. Henry is right....if you really watch and listen to him and read between the lines, he is really sweet at heart, but somehow it doesn't come across the way it should. This week he showed his vulnerability which was endearing. However many have commented on other sites that the package was a put on fake. Hope the negative reactions of what I have read elsewhere doesn't translate to no votes. Maks delivered this week and I hope he keeps the pressure on with the remaining dances
Jackie Quinn I bet the people who claim the package was "fake" are mainly Maks haters who refuse to believe that there is any fiber of good in him, his haters are silly like that sometimes. What I have noticed from alot of Maks haters is that they always like to criticize Maks at every chance they get and seem to blame him for just about everything that goes wrong, no matter how silly & bias it is. And whenever Maks shows a good side to him or someone says positive things about his personality, the haters insist it's all "fake" or they're "lying". It's like they think they know Maks any better than the rest of us do, even when many of his friends & family say he's actually a very good person in reality, coming from the people who actually know him personally, the haters just refuse to believe it, they're ridiculous like that. Of course I'm not generalizing all Maks haters as narrow-minded & bias, but alot of the haters I've come across are like that, they just refuse to believe there's a good side to Maks & just judge him by all the negative stuff they see in front of the camera.
I'm personally rooting for Val and Maks. I'll be honest the repeat pro winners make take away my wanting to watch the next season. I have all the respect in the world for them but a mix up does a show good.
I really enjoy watching Afterbuzz TV every week and listening to all the different insights & opinions from the hosts, but I have to say that this episode is my favorite because Henry was the guest, I'm a big fan of him, he is such a talented dancer and always has great insight & unbias opinions, it's always a joy listening to him and watching him! :D #dancingwiththestars #afterbuzztv #henrybyalikov

Can I just say I love love when Henry is on. He just has awesome comments and insight. Macy's stars of dance was sick. Allison added to that mix was crazy good. I think Charlie is underscored too sometimes, I think he deserves a 10 in some dances but never does he improves on the critiques he is given weekly (I feel a bit of favorite on his skating partner). Great show again and Artem needs to be on again ahhahaha Im not too keen on the teams for the dances it seems one sided already. TSK.
RE Anna's comments about outsiders wanting Meryl to be 'pushed' further... What more could they have done? The opening Cha-Cha was superb. Followed by a Swing number which was the most difficult Swing ever w/ a celebrity, I suspect. [Even the Afterbuzz guest said there was no way she could have done some of those moves!] The Foxtrot was stunning and complicated, received rave judge reviews on choreography and imo, was better than the AT the following week. The AT was a technical masterpiece, but didn't have the softer, sizzling emotional aspects which would have existed had Maks been the choreographer. [Artem, the previous week, seemed to be saying the same thing. BTW, Artem is not only a magnificient dancer, but I really appreciated his thoughtful comments.] Had Maks done even more earlier on, he'd be getting nailed even worse for having a 'ringer'... Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. Meanwhile, Charlie can't catch a break. The Mary Poppins and Happy Jive in particular were brilliant.
IIRC, Anna said the opening cha cha was good and a proper cha cha, but for Meryl they want more than just good, they want great. Julz made the point you are making about the need to pace Meryl even if she is capable of more. I do feel that Maks is overly criticized for any intro or lull in his choreography -- not necessarily by After Buzz, it is a criticism I see other places too, even at this week's tango. But I remember Anna felt there was a wasted ten seconds of just fake making out in the foxtrot... but the music stopped for those ten seconds so IDK what they were supposed to do. Plus um, I liked it! lol As for the tango and samba -- I loved how Maks set the mood for their tango, and their song choice/characters where so whack for Disney week that Maks had to establish a narrative at the beginning of lazy grown up Mowgli. I can see why people have a problem with it as faffing about, but he is far from the only pro to do so, and I don't feel like the rest of the dance is lacking in content? IDK. I disagree with you about the swing, though. The lifts, yeah, those were pretty cool in the sense they were high but as an ice dance fan, I wasn't that impressed because obvs she and Charlie can do much better. The rest of the choreo was just so-so and not overly difficult, i.e. Meryl jumping into Maks' arms and mugging, them clapping and running around in a circle, the tapping feet, and way too long of an intro that week with running down the stairs. In fact, Meryl has vision problems with depth perception so much so that she hugs the boards so as not to crash into other skaters when she is warming up alone, and only ventures out onto the ice when Charlie is there to guide her. So having her do stuff like run down the stairs to the stage like that seems like a hugely unnecessary challenge for her.
Kristyn Burtt Meryl [and Charlie] also know how to deal with media backbiters. Read quite a few articles in the Canadian press after the Sochi win. And the comments. Whew. Makes fans in a particular DWTS 'camp' look like pikers. Quite seriously, they've had to endure endless speculation 'the fix was in'. Regardless of the fact ALL of the judges gave them a 10 on performance [including the Canadian judge] on their long program. I find it distressing that in many competitive areas, some fans feel the need to boost their favorites by denigrating someone else. Not a long time DWTS watcher, but since recovering from surgery I've had the time to go back and catch up on other seasons. Frankly, ALL of the pros are brilliant and each has their own set of strengths. It seems the producers have fostered particular images for some of the pros, especially Maks as the 'bad boy'. [He's dark, has the Russian/Ukrainian accent, is physically imposing... Meanwhile, Derek, is the fair-haired 'good' guy.] It helps to drive interest and ratings, but there is a cost. Some people actually believe all of the stuff... Going back and watching Maks over the years, I see a person who takes his responsibility very seriously and really pushes his celebrity as he knows what it will take to get to the finals. To my unprofessional eye, he's taken some further than what their abilities would seem to have been possible. So kudos to him. Rather than thinking him 'mean', to me, it's simply honest and direct. This approach works better for some celebrities than others and is true of other workplace management styles in more mundane places of work.
Indeed, Kristyn. Really appreciate all of the work they put in. The celebrities, too, but the pros have hours of other work planning the choreography, costumes, thinking about camera blocking [I suspect]. It really is amazing and is testimony to their talent and professionalism. I am in awe.
LOVING this show so much!!! Can't wait to see what they will come up with in the next "Latin" Episode!!! And now 2 dances + team dance, right? Whoa, this is going to be harder for the dancers!!! I predict Nene will go (love Candice though I spent all my seven votes in a weekly row on Jeeta/Pames)
I did! After his comment about '4 seconds of camera time' as an 'Admiral of the Fleet' in James/Cheryl's Tango, I wondered what drily witty remarks he'd have to say about being ditched at the altar!
I agree so much about Candace, the judges and producers in that case have "lined" her up to go home. I pray she doesn't, she is amazing and loves dancing so much! She's all I've been voting for and gave her about 300 votes these week, really hope the other fans do. I love watching her and Mark so much and it just gets me angry of how they been scoring her these past weeks, its like they want her to leave, she has absolutely done so much better compared to some other couples!
I agree with Suri that it bothers me that Nene can get away with being bare footed while others can't. Henry's partner was also tall and they made her wear heels so that excuse doesn't work for me. Meryl wore flats last week, but didn't she sprain her ankle? In practice she was bare footed as well for the first time, but she went back to heels during practice and performance this week. Perhaps that is why she received 9's on a generous night last week. Nene should definitely be the one that goes home this coming week. Not 'hating' as she says, I just think she is the weakest link and I haven't warmed up to her to be honest. IMO she is the diva of the show. lol Meryl and Max were the best by far! Incredible! The difficulty and their ability to perform it so well not to mention how passionate it was...WOW!! No doubt, the best of the night. I thought Charlie and Danika should have been tied for 2nd with at least one 10 thrown in. Amy surprised me this season and the fact that she can do what she can is amazing! However, I think she is being scored too high (2 10's, really?) I would have scored her 4 points lower since I felt that James was a little better. James's scores were correct since he could have done better, but he still did a great job. I can't wait to next week!
Great show, so glad Kristyn is back! I agree with most of your comments, Henry's inside scoop was great. I love Anna, but I'll have to disagree wth her. When it comes to the hold and frame in a couple, I think the lady has a harder job. I mean, like someone said before, the woman has to do what the man is doing, while dancing in heels and backwards. I'm so excited for Charlie's Paso next week! CarrieAnn said in week 1 that Sharna was more yang and Charlie was more yin. For the paso, Charlie really has to own his strenght, I think that is was really will push him. I don't think that NeNe should be scored so high. I mean, I get that she is a great performer, but so was Drew, and he stll got low scores. I think Candance is a better dancer than NeNe, and she should outlast her. But their fans have to vote. I agree that Danica is a really good dancer, I just don't know if she has enough fanbase to carry her through. Loved Suri's face when Henry was talking about Derek, like" See, it's not me whose saying Derek is amazing!".. LOL!! Well, facts are facts, and all the pros that come in to afterbuzz say that Derek is amazing.. :) Can't wait till latin monday!, have a fun week guys!
madgirlportugal I think what Anna meant by it is more difficult for the men is because in Latin ballroom dances, the men are suppose to 'lead' the women in the dances, so it's especially important for the men to really know & remember all the moves & steps, and that's very hard for the male celebs to do. If he makes a mistake it's harder to cover it up because he is suppose to lead in the dance, so there's alot of pressure on the men. of course it's very difficult for the women too because they have to dance in those heels, but if the women make a mistake, the men can easily cover it up & put her back in the right place. So I think that's why Anna implied it's easier for the women.
I love that Henry was on the show. He has no bias in his comments. I feel I can trust his opinions and what he states as facts. I certainly hope Nene goes home next week. No way should Candace go home before Nene! Some of the stars are starting to look tired. Can't believe we're so close to the beginning of the end. I love DWTS and always hate to see it end. Yes I liked henry the best. He's honest but in a nonbias way. I cant stand suri, sorry because she is too judgmental and teamderek all the time. I never really cared for Anna on dwts and I dont care for her on afterbuzz. She comes off twofaced, the way she was pretty much dissing maks the first two weeks but I know she wouldnt dare say it to his face.
vdw842003 We didn't hear the same things come out of Suri's mouth. I've thought she's really been pushing for Max, Val and Tony this season. The week of the switch - up challenge and the week after, I thought Tony behaved like a pouting three year-old. Way too much drama, disrespecting the judges and even talked over Erin. Erin asked him if he would like to take her mike and do her job for her. But none of that was ever mentioned when the shows for those two weeks were discussed. I agree sometimes Anna gets a bit full of herself. I've learned to take what she says with a grain of salt. Thank you for replying to my comment.
rose rus Yes she did say that in week 1 or week 2 that she wish meryl would have got mark or derek. She doesnt really like maks and that is ok because you like who you like. The only reason she is acting like she is teammaks now is because he may actually win this thing for once and has a great partner to do it, so what could she say at this point about maks when they are staying at the top. She obviously has nothing to say about him that will add up. Please go watch the first two afterbuzzes.

So basically when he gets a partner without dance background Maks complains, when he gets a perfect partner Maks complains :))) I disagree that Maks is doing a great job with Meryl, I think Sharna is giving Charlie a much better choreography but they are underscored every week. Meryl was perfection with Val bc he knows how to choreograph full on dances. Also, how funny to hear that "Tony thinks it is harder to choreograph for someone that is really good", when Derek got Nicole all I heard was "well it's so easy, Nicole is a dancer" :))) oh, may how things change, not so easy, huh :)))
Maks was not complaining the stress was just getting to him. He was venting that everybody expects Meryl to be awesome and that's a lot of pressure. They are both competitive people and they didn't want 9's they wanted 10's not that 9's are bad.
I was okay with the package this week. We are all human and it's nice to see a human moment from Maks. He had a really nice breakthrough with Meryl this week…I was happy to see it.
OMG! I thought the exact same thing about the whole Tony comment. Nicole immediatly came to mind. I'm really trying to like maks, and be ok. i'm not even commenting. but it's nice to see that somebody else had the same thought.
madgirlportugal I usually ignore the people I don''t like and just try to focus on who and what I like but when it comes to Maks and Tony it is hard sometimes. I feel like this whole season is ab Maks, how Meryl brings the best in him, how he is trying so hard to be nice...if you're a good guy those things should come naturally, I think. I am glad he finally has that perfect partner that he dreamed of, maybe he''ll finally admit that it takes more to win that damn trophy than just a good partner.
my fav this season is amy and derek shes amazing and derek is an amazing teacher hes wonderful with amy they have great chemistry they bring joy on the dancefloor and the jive was amazing amy you go girl.
About the team dances, I'm so mad! Derek and Amy should be on team Charlie. Come on, Mark and Derek with Maks and Val on the same team?? sharna is very good, but with Peta and especially Tony this team is doomed.. I want Charlie to win, but this is turning into a hard one. plus, derek has never lost a team challenge (fair game here, he pulled off the greatest choreos possible). For what I remember, Val has never been with Derek or Mark on a team dance, and the only time Maks was on a winning team was on season 13 with derek.
I agree 100% with Candace being underscored. The Quickstep a few weeks ago getting a 28? really? :( This week I mean maybe one or two nines possibly, but not a 32. I love her energy and her spirit, and she can dance really well. I really hope she's not in jeopardy next week, because she's without a doubt my favorite contestant this season (followed by James and Danica)
Jose Martinez IKR? For someone who's not a trained dancer or an athlete, she nailed all the basic ballroom steps Mark's giving to her. To me, she's outstanding.
I wonder if Nene's appearance on the Ho wives reunion will affect her scores? She came off pretty nasty,who knows. I don't want to see Candace go, she has really worked so hard and after her break out the first week with contemporary she hasn't really wowed the judges since. Allison is one of my favorite dancers of all time, I was so happy she is also working on DWTS. Great show, glad to see Kristyn back.
I agree with the inconsistent judging and scores but I also want to see some of the other Pros choreograph Macy Stars of Dance because they're just as talented as Derek is and they always give it to Derek because DWTS likes to force him down our throats due to him having an emmy. We get it he's talented but we already know what he brings to the table choreography wise let's see what the other Pros could bring

1233babygirl I'm going to guess it's a contractual arrangement with Macy's and Derek. It has nothing to do with the other pros, so stepping aside isn't an option. He could co-choreograph with one of them, but he's always on the bill. Macy's is paying the $$$, so they get what they asked for…Derek.
I liked Redfoo's stint as a judge. I think y'all are being sour; he was exciting to watch. And the comment about Nene not taking off her clothes is quite catty.
I have a feeling Danica may be in jeopardy next week with pushes to save Candace, and Nene seems to have a large following. At this point in the season I dont really see Amy, Meryl, Charlie, or James at risk of elimination. Each of them seems to have their own distinct story line which reads across really well to the audience, and for me Danica seems to get lost somewhere in the shuffle. The only thing that has seemed to work for her, aside from the quality of movement she possesses is her odd rivalry with Candace which has been outplayed. Personally speaking, her dances aren't always the most memorable and for some reason I feel she's almost too calculated and introverted. I would love to see her just live the dance and come out with fire in her eyes.
That is what I have been saying she is forgettable. Their is nothing about her that standsout. Yes she can dance well but their is nothing unique or interesting about her.
Kristyn Burtt It definitely was. I think that Disney week made everybody so excited and it increased many people's expectations (it definitely increased my expectations). I kinda think that if Disney week and Party Anthem week switched, it would've been better. But oh well. Ricky Martin will be there next week, so that's always a good thing :) BTW, where has all the Paso Dobles been?!
Team dances would be pretty interesting... At first glance, it would seem that Team Meryl will win by a landslide, but Sharna's choreography for me seems to be on par with Derek's, Mark's or Val's so don't count out the female pros just yet. ; )

for my predictions: I think Nene is going home this week, and danica or charlie the following weeks. Candace is definitely not a very good dancer, but i think she is going to be around for a while. I can even see her squeezing into final 4 on popularity...her fanbase aligns with dwts casual audience just a little too well.
I hope you're wrong about Charlie..I really hope he can make it to the finals. I feel that Candance has a lot of audience rooting for her, and I agree that Danica may go 1st. But Charie and James are the 2 male celebs left, so I would love to watch those 2 till the end.
Oh and why oh why?! Enough with seeking drama already producers! As a viewer, I'm happy with seeing a drama free dance filled episode. Why are they bringing Abby Miller? So she might be professional and when she comes on the show but a lot of people don't like her. I bet there are other people they could have brought. Previous pros and Louis or Anna come to mind immediately. Not cool IMO
Lol! The really really mean coach on Dance Moms. God knows I only found out about her when Derek and Mark tweeted that what she was doing was child abuse and that yelling at kids and making them cry is not necessary to to make them dancers.
Melina Reyes what does that make the parents that are allowing her to teach their kids. I have said once and I'll say it again, alot of that stuff is scripted for entertainment. A reality show without drama will never succeed. Im sure she is tough but I feel like alot of that stuff is exaggerated for tv purposes only.

Have any of you thought about the Maks comment:"(i'm not scared, I'm terrified)" in this package. In the first week rehearsal package, Meryl said: "(she wanted it all)" and Maks replied: "(I've got a lot to give, be careful what you ask for)". It seems to me that Maks has gotten more that he asked for,.... NOT an excellent dancer for a partner, but someone whom he may have strong personal feelings for, and those feelings are terrifying him.....look at his face when he looks at her and tells her that he is terrified, not scared....that statement had nothing to do with the dancing. His look to her is SO SOFT when he says it. Having said that, I agree that he is feeling a lot of pressure to knock the dancing out of the park.....I'm sure he reads a lot of negative comments about his choreo and has had other dancers comment to him on picking up the pace. Look at how Julianne's nasty remark has bothered him now for over two weeks....he is still p...ssed off over that.
I seriously doubt that maks has feelings for meryl. I wish people would stop with that nonsense. Can a man and woman connect in a deeper level without it being romantic. I have male friends that I confide in time to time and have a great connection with but its nothing romantic. I truly feel like he is scared of blowing it with the choreography because of his own insecurities. He wants to win this thing once and for all so I dont blame him for being terrified to bring it every week.
I have question, why do you all feel like candace will be a shocking elimination. Tbh she is no better than nene. The best dancers left are meryl, james, danica and charlie. So, I just dont get this team candace, she is boring.

Kristyn Burtt To each its own but candace hasnt been good since week 1 and she hasnt done anything to prove she should be here longer than anyone. I feel like drew was more entertaining than her and should have stayed longer. She may dance better than nene but nene is not boring like her. Nene has a better chemistry with tony than candace has with mark and I think it is really showing in their dances. I like her as a person and respect her beliefs but she is boring.
vdw842003 to each their own, I suppose everyone watches this show for different reasons, some people watch the show to see the celebs go on journeys, while others watch it mainly for the dancing. I personally fall into the latter group, I mainly watch the show for the dancing, so in that respect I think Candice was more deserving to stay longer on the show than Nene, Drew, Diana & Billy Dee, even though I did like Drew's personality. But of course Candice is also by no means 1 of the better celeb dancers, there were still a few other better celeb dancers. Even with the nature of the show as being a 'dance' show, sometimes the viewers become more drawn to the personalities of the celebs rather than the dancing, which is why sometimes the celebs who do win are not always the best dancers from their respective seasons. Sometimes it's not just about the dancing, and Candice was lucky she attracted alot of fans who love her for her personality & voted for her religiously. But for someone like me who mainly watch the show for the dancing, it's always disappointing to see good dancers being eliminated before the worse dancers, which is why I am still mad that Candice was in the finals instead of Charlie & Danica.
I really like this show and I'm not trying to be a hater but I feel like they should have acknowledged Jane a little more and tried to bring her into the conversations, asked her for her opinions more, etc.. It seems like she was a little left out. On a different note, stoked that Chelsie will be on next week!! Now they just need to book Oksana from the old troupes!
Jane won a set visit through a charity auction. She was not a guest on the show…meaning she was not supposed to be on-camera. We included her for fun from time to time. We all had a great time with her, so let's not stir up any controversy on a wonderful day for a wonderful cause. Thanks! :)

I agree that Candice Cameran has a very sweet and likable personality BUT she is a terrible dancer! she is definitely not better than Nene! they are both terrible but at least Nene looks more comfortable and actually moves her body. Candice is too stiff and awkward.
I think she is better than NeNe. NeNe is not very sharp with her moves, and most of her body moves with her. I am glad Carrie Ann said that she needs more technique.
ogga I think it's more or less even between Candice & Nene...although both are not particularly good dancers, but they both have strengths & weaknesses to their dancing, and both have advantages & disadvantages over the other. Although Nene is much more natural mover & is more comfortable with her moves, but Candice has sharper & better technique. So it really depends on which perspective you look at it...if it's performance wise, then Nene I think is the better performer because she moves very naturally & she seems very comfortable when she dances, she had been very consistent with her performance. But in terms of the actual technique, then I think Candice is better, because her technique & moves are much sharper & precise. with Candice, it's really a mind game, she was not consistent, there were times when she was confident and other times when she's very insecure and that affected her performance, but when she was confident in herself, she was actually quite good...so it really depends on her confidence levels. So overall, I think Nene is the better performer, but Candice is the better technical dancer.
I will speak for me…it was good, not great for Charlie. Last week was killer (one of my favorite dances this season) and he should have been scored much higher. He's an outstanding dancer, but I agree with Carrie Anne…I'm ready for a big surprise from them. I think we will get it next week with the Paso. I'm not worried about him.
I actually liked charlies dance. It was the best cha cha cha of the night, imo. My only concern is that maybe he could have hit harder with his moves like sharna. Sharna was dancing hard and charlie went into his usual skater moves in some moments. Im glad he's got paso next week maybe we can see that hardness comeout.
I'm completly bias with Charlie, and that's why I can't state with impartiality. I loved it, it was the best cha cha cha of the night, and 10's should be lifted. I mean, at least 2 tens would be great. But as I said, I am pulling for #teamcharshar so, I have to take others opinions....
Kristyn Burtt That Mary Poppin's routine was one of the best I've ever seen. Really complicated footwork and talk about high energy. Whew. I was astounded there were no 10's. Additionally, I agreed w/ Meryl about their Samba scores. If the judges wanted to give '9's', fine... But when CAI states 'they dance as one person' and then gives a '9', it did seem the comments didn't 'match' the scoring. Furthermore, I'm not sure what more could have been done in a routine which is a sexual style which had to be de-sexualized as the male lead was 11 years old, lol... and to music which wasn't uber 'samba-ish'...
Candace is not a good dancer why are you all riding her too much? Nene isnt a good dancer either but she has one thing candace doesnt confidence. If candace gets voted off it will be fine because really she want make to the finals. She isnt good enough. We all know who has the lock on the finals so allow the ones that are no good be picked off one by one.
I think rather nene could dance or not is irrelevant. I just think she has too much of a strong personality to be on dwts. The demographic of this show is so much different than what she is use to. You have to pretty much be sweet and clean like meryl or charlie to get any recognition. People like sean avery and nene are not dwts cup of tea. There has never been an edgy person to win this thing and probably never will.
I agree some 'stars' seem a bit misplaced. I feel the choreographers and judges on this show are world class. They know what steps moves, timing etc. make up the different dances. This competition is in a class of it's own. Brawlers and screamers aren't the norm! As you say the sweet and clean do much better. I appreciate your comments.

Very interesting week here. Good afterbuzz show as always ladies/guy :) I'm very glad we got Henry he always has great insights seems like such a nice guy and I do love looking at him haha! It's better when he's dancing on the show coz he's so good but I'll take what I can get lol. Bummer about Sasha not being here but glad he's out dancing hopefully it's something we'll get to see :) Missed Julz too.
How I felt this week: At first I felt that Candace was underscored again but I do agree that it's probably because her nervousness is visible during the dance unlike Nene who owns whatever she's given even if I Candace is doing more technical stuff. I love Candace and really want her to go far. I hope those nerves sort themselves out. Charlie underscored again. Not going to lie, it's beginning to bug me but it will make his scores when he does ballroom like waltz, Foxtrot etc. even sweeter 'cos I bet the scores will finally be appropriate.
Amy was amazing!! She continues to wow me. Such a fun routine too. Dance of the night to me even though Meryl's was perfect and beautiful, Amy's stuck with me. Poor Derek with his elbow. I'm glad the injury was not more serious.
Aww James the super bent knees with bum out was obvious to me. Not his week but I still think he's amazing and can't wait for him to redeem himself. Although I'm not sure the Samba will redeem him since it's so hard but I would love for him to prove me wrong.
First impressions of the group has me thinking Team Meryl has the edge but let's not write anyone off. It is live TV afterall. Anything can happen.
Macy's performace made me want to dance! It was like a concert. I loved it. At times it was hard to see with the crowd but I loved it.
So glad to see the positive comments on the Maks/Meryl rehearsal package. I think Maks has been given a bad rap all these years because people misinterpret how he says things. Henry is right....if you really watch and listen to him and read between the lines, he is really sweet at heart, but somehow it doesn't come across the way it should. This week he showed his vulnerability which was endearing. However many have commented on other sites that the package was a put on fake. Hope the negative reactions of what I have read elsewhere doesn't translate to no votes. Maks delivered this week and I hope he keeps the pressure on with the remaining dances
Jackie Quinn I bet the people who claim the package was "fake" are mainly Maks haters who refuse to believe that there is any fiber of good in him, his haters are silly like that sometimes. What I have noticed from alot of Maks haters is that they always like to criticize Maks at every chance they get and seem to blame him for just about everything that goes wrong, no matter how silly & bias it is. And whenever Maks shows a good side to him or someone says positive things about his personality, the haters insist it's all "fake" or they're "lying". It's like they think they know Maks any better than the rest of us do, even when many of his friends & family say he's actually a very good person in reality, coming from the people who actually know him personally, the haters just refuse to believe it, they're ridiculous like that. Of course I'm not generalizing all Maks haters as narrow-minded & bias, but alot of the haters I've come across are like that, they just refuse to believe there's a good side to Maks & just judge him by all the negative stuff they see in front of the camera.

I'm personally rooting for Val and Maks. I'll be honest the repeat pro winners make take away my wanting to watch the next season. I have all the respect in the world for them but a mix up does a show good.

Can I just say I love love when Henry is on. He just has awesome comments and insight. Macy's stars of dance was sick. Allison added to that mix was crazy good. I think Charlie is underscored too sometimes, I think he deserves a 10 in some dances but never does he improves on the critiques he is given weekly (I feel a bit of favorite on his skating partner). Great show again and Artem needs to be on again ahhahaha Im not too keen on the teams for the dances it seems one sided already. TSK.
RE Anna's comments about outsiders wanting Meryl to be 'pushed' further... What more could they have done? The opening Cha-Cha was superb. Followed by a Swing number which was the most difficult Swing ever w/ a celebrity, I suspect. [Even the Afterbuzz guest said there was no way she could have done some of those moves!] The Foxtrot was stunning and complicated, received rave judge reviews on choreography and imo, was better than the AT the following week. The AT was a technical masterpiece, but didn't have the softer, sizzling emotional aspects which would have existed had Maks been the choreographer. [Artem, the previous week, seemed to be saying the same thing. BTW, Artem is not only a magnificient dancer, but I really appreciated his thoughtful comments.]
Had Maks done even more earlier on, he'd be getting nailed even worse for having a 'ringer'... Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't.
Meanwhile, Charlie can't catch a break. The Mary Poppins and Happy Jive in particular were brilliant.
IIRC, Anna said the opening cha cha was good and a proper cha cha, but for Meryl they want more than just good, they want great. Julz made the point you are making about the need to pace Meryl even if she is capable of more. I do feel that Maks is overly criticized for any intro or lull in his choreography -- not necessarily by After Buzz, it is a criticism I see other places too, even at this week's tango. But I remember Anna felt there was a wasted ten seconds of just fake making out in the foxtrot... but the music stopped for those ten seconds so IDK what they were supposed to do. Plus um, I liked it! lol As for the tango and samba -- I loved how Maks set the mood for their tango, and their song choice/characters where so whack for Disney week that Maks had to establish a narrative at the beginning of lazy grown up Mowgli. I can see why people have a problem with it as faffing about, but he is far from the only pro to do so, and I don't feel like the rest of the dance is lacking in content? IDK.
I disagree with you about the swing, though. The lifts, yeah, those were pretty cool in the sense they were high but as an ice dance fan, I wasn't that impressed because obvs she and Charlie can do much better. The rest of the choreo was just so-so and not overly difficult, i.e. Meryl jumping into Maks' arms and mugging, them clapping and running around in a circle, the tapping feet, and way too long of an intro that week with running down the stairs. In fact, Meryl has vision problems with depth perception so much so that she hugs the boards so as not to crash into other skaters when she is warming up alone, and only ventures out onto the ice when Charlie is there to guide her. So having her do stuff like run down the stairs to the stage like that seems like a hugely unnecessary challenge for her.
Good point about the swing. Especially the depth perception issues. I suspect I rated it higher due to the speed. They're zippy!
I love Meryl and Maks together. The pressure was getting to Maks and she calmed him down. Maks is Meryl's dance coach and Meryl's Maks life coach.
Meryl knows how to deal with pressure! She's the perfect match for Maks on that end.

Meryl [and Charlie] also know how to deal with media backbiters. Read quite a few articles in the Canadian press after the Sochi win. And the comments. Whew. Makes fans in a particular DWTS 'camp' look like pikers. Quite seriously, they've had to endure endless speculation 'the fix was in'. Regardless of the fact ALL of the judges gave them a 10 on performance [including the Canadian judge] on their long program. I find it distressing that in many competitive areas, some fans feel the need to boost their favorites by denigrating someone else.
Not a long time DWTS watcher, but since recovering from surgery I've had the time to go back and catch up on other seasons. Frankly, ALL of the pros are brilliant and each has their own set of strengths.
It seems the producers have fostered particular images for some of the pros, especially Maks as the 'bad boy'. [He's dark, has the Russian/Ukrainian accent, is physically imposing... Meanwhile, Derek, is the fair-haired 'good' guy.] It helps to drive interest and ratings, but there is a cost. Some people actually believe all of the stuff... Going back and watching Maks over the years, I see a person who takes his responsibility very seriously and really pushes his celebrity as he knows what it will take to get to the finals. To my unprofessional eye, he's taken some further than what their abilities would seem to have been possible. So kudos to him. Rather than thinking him 'mean', to me, it's simply honest and direct. This approach works better for some celebrities than others and is true of other workplace management styles in more mundane places of work.
Yes, all of the pros are extremely talented and we are so lucky to see their work each week…especially in such a competitive season like this one.
Indeed, Kristyn. Really appreciate all of the work they put in. The celebrities, too, but the pros have hours of other work planning the choreography, costumes, thinking about camera blocking [I suspect]. It really is amazing and is testimony to their talent and professionalism. I am in awe.

I agree so much about Candace, the judges and producers in that case have "lined" her up to go home. I pray she doesn't, she is amazing and loves dancing so much! She's all I've been voting for and gave her about 300 votes these week, really hope the other fans do. I love watching her and Mark so much and it just gets me angry of how they been scoring her these past weeks, its like they want her to leave, she has absolutely done so much better compared to some other couples!
Yeah, I've been baffled by her scores this season. I like her and hope she sticks around a bit.

I agree with Suri that it bothers me that Nene can get away with being bare footed while others can't. Henry's partner was also tall and they made her wear heels so that excuse doesn't work for me. Meryl wore flats last week, but didn't she sprain her ankle? In practice she was bare footed as well for the first time, but she went back to heels during practice and performance this week. Perhaps that is why she received 9's on a generous night last week. Nene should definitely be the one that goes home this coming week. Not 'hating' as she says, I just think she is the weakest link and I haven't warmed up to her to be honest. IMO she is the diva of the show. lol
Meryl and Max were the best by far! Incredible! The difficulty and their ability to perform it so well not to mention how passionate it was...WOW!! No doubt, the best of the night. I thought Charlie and Danika should have been tied for 2nd with at least one 10 thrown in. Amy surprised me this season and the fact that she can do what she can is amazing! However, I think she is being scored too high (2 10's, really?) I would have scored her 4 points lower since I felt that James was a little better. James's scores were correct since he could have done better, but he still did a great job. I can't wait to next week!
Great show, so glad Kristyn is back! I agree with most of your comments, Henry's inside scoop was great. I love Anna, but I'll have to disagree wth her. When it comes to the hold and frame in a couple, I think the lady has a harder job. I mean, like someone said before, the woman has to do what the man is doing, while dancing in heels and backwards. I'm so excited for Charlie's Paso next week! CarrieAnn said in week 1 that Sharna was more yang and Charlie was more yin. For the paso, Charlie really has to own his strenght, I think that is was really will push him.
I don't think that NeNe should be scored so high. I mean, I get that she is a great performer, but so was Drew, and he stll got low scores. I think Candance is a better dancer than NeNe, and she should outlast her. But their fans have to vote. I agree that Danica is a really good dancer, I just don't know if she has enough fanbase to carry her through.
Loved Suri's face when Henry was talking about Derek, like" See, it's not me whose saying Derek is amazing!".. LOL!! Well, facts are facts, and all the pros that come in to afterbuzz say that Derek is amazing.. :)

madgirlportugal I think what Anna meant by it is more difficult for the men is because in Latin ballroom dances, the men are suppose to 'lead' the women in the dances, so it's especially important for the men to really know & remember all the moves & steps, and that's very hard for the male celebs to do. If he makes a mistake it's harder to cover it up because he is suppose to lead in the dance, so there's alot of pressure on the men. of course it's very difficult for the women too because they have to dance in those heels, but if the women make a mistake, the men can easily cover it up & put her back in the right place. So I think that's why Anna implied it's easier for the women.

I love that Henry was on the show. He has no bias in his comments. I feel I can trust his opinions and what he states as facts. I certainly hope Nene goes home next week. No way should Candace go home before Nene! Some of the stars are starting to look tired. Can't believe we're so close to the beginning of the end. I love DWTS and always hate to see it end. Yes I liked henry the best. He's honest but in a nonbias way. I cant stand suri, sorry because she is too judgmental and teamderek all the time. I never really cared for Anna on dwts and I dont care for her on afterbuzz. She comes off twofaced, the way she was pretty much dissing maks the first two weeks but I know she wouldnt dare say it to his face.
vdw842003 We didn't hear the same things come out of Suri's mouth. I've thought she's really been pushing for Max, Val and Tony this season. The week of the switch - up challenge and the week after, I thought Tony behaved like a pouting three year-old. Way too much drama, disrespecting the judges and even talked over Erin. Erin asked him if he would like to take her mike and do her job for her. But none of that was ever mentioned when the shows for those two weeks were discussed.
I agree sometimes Anna gets a bit full of herself. I've learned to take what she says with a grain of salt.

The only reason she is acting like she is teammaks now is because he may actually win this thing for once and has a great partner to do it, so what could she say at this point about maks when they are staying at the top. Meryl was perfection with Val bc he knows how to choreograph full on dances. Also, how funny to hear that "Tony thinks it is harder to choreograph for someone that is really good", when Derek got Nicole all I heard was "well it's so easy, Nicole is a dancer" :))) oh, may how things change, not so easy, huh :)))
Maks was not complaining the stress was just getting to him. He was venting that everybody expects Meryl to be awesome and that's a lot of pressure. They are both competitive people and they didn't want 9's they wanted 10's not that 9's are bad.
I was okay with the package this week. We are all human and it's nice to see a human moment from Maks. He had a really nice breakthrough with Meryl this week…I was happy to see it.

I feel like this whole season is ab Maks, how Meryl brings the best in him, how he is trying so hard to be nice...if you're a good guy those things should come naturally, I think. About the team dances, I'm so mad! Derek and Amy should be on team Charlie. Come on, Mark and Derek with Maks and Val on the same team?? sharna is very good, but with Peta and especially Tony this team is doomed.. I want Charlie to win, but this is turning into a hard one. plus, derek has never lost a team challenge (fair game here, he pulled off the greatest choreos possible). For what I remember, Val has never been with Derek or Mark on a team dance, and the only time Maks was on a winning team was on season 13 with derek.
I agree 100% with Candace being underscored. The Quickstep a few weeks ago getting a 28? really? :( This week I mean maybe one or two nines possibly, but not a 32. I love her energy and her spirit, and she can dance really well. I really hope she's not in jeopardy next week, because she's without a doubt my favorite contestant this season (followed by James and Danica)

I agree with the inconsistent judging and scores but I also want to see some of the other Pros choreograph Macy Stars of Dance because they're just as talented as Derek is and they always give it to Derek because DWTS likes to force him down our throats due to him having an emmy. We get it he's talented but we already know what he brings to the table choreography wise let's see what the other Pros could bring
He was named Artistic Director by Macy's, so it's Derek's baby. He might co-choreograph with someone else, but he will always be in the mix.

I have a feeling Danica may be in jeopardy next week with pushes to save Candace, and Nene seems to have a large following. At this point in the season I dont really see Amy, Meryl, Charlie, or James at risk of elimination. Each of them seems to have their own distinct story line which reads across really well to the audience, and for me Danica seems to get lost somewhere in the shuffle. The only thing that has seemed to work for her, aside from the quality of movement she possesses is her odd rivalry with Candace which has been outplayed. Personally speaking, her dances aren't always the most memorable and for some reason I feel she's almost too calculated and introverted. I would love to see her just live the dance and come out with fire in her eyes.
That is what I have been saying she is forgettable. Their is nothing about her that standsout. Yes she can dance well but their is nothing unique or interesting about her.

Team dances would be pretty interesting... At first glance, it would seem that Team Meryl will win by a landslide, but Sharna's choreography for me seems to be on par with Derek's, Mark's or Val's so don't count out the female pros just yet. ; )

I think Nene is going home this week, and danica or charlie the following weeks. Candace is definitely not a very good dancer, but i think she is going to be around for a while. I can even see her squeezing into final 4 on popularity...her fanbase aligns with dwts casual audience just a little too well.

I feel that Candance has a lot of audience rooting for her, and I agree that Danica may go 1st. But Charie and James are the 2 male celebs left, so I would love to watch those 2 till the end.

Melina Reyes what does that make the parents that are allowing her to teach their kids. I have said once and I'll say it again, alot of that stuff is scripted for entertainment. A reality show without drama will never succeed. Im sure she is tough but I feel like alot of that stuff is exaggerated for tv purposes only.

Have any of you thought about the Maks comment:"(i'm not scared, I'm terrified)" in this package. In the first week rehearsal package, Meryl said: "(she wanted it all)" and Maks replied: "(I've got a lot to give, be careful what you ask for)". It seems to me that Maks has gotten more that he asked for,.... NOT an excellent dancer for a partner, but someone whom he may have strong personal feelings for, and those feelings are terrifying him.....look at his face when he looks at her and tells her that he is terrified, not scared....that statement had nothing to do with the dancing. His look to her is SO SOFT when he says it. Having said that, I agree that he is feeling a lot of pressure to knock the dancing out of the park.....I'm sure he reads a lot of negative comments about his choreo and has had other dancers comment to him on picking up the pace. Look at how Julianne's nasty remark has bothered him now for over two weeks....he is still p...ssed off over that.
I seriously doubt that maks has feelings for meryl. I wish people would stop with that nonsense. Can a man and woman connect in a deeper level without it being romantic. I have male friends that I confide in time to time and have a great connection with but its nothing romantic. I truly feel like he is scared of blowing it with the choreography because of his own insecurities. He wants to win this thing once and for all so I dont blame him for being terrified to bring it every week.
I have question, why do you all feel like candace will be a shocking elimination. Tbh she is no better than nene. The best dancers left are meryl, james, danica and charlie. So, I just dont get this team candace, she is boring.
I don't feel like it would be shocking at this point. I think one person vocalized that. However, I am not ready to see her go. I am okay with NeNe going first...
Kristyn Burtt To each its own but candace hasnt been good since week 1 and she hasnt done anything to prove she should be here longer than anyone. I feel like drew was more entertaining than her and should have stayed longer. She may dance better than nene but nene is not boring like her. Nene has a better chemistry with tony than candace has with mark and I think it is really showing in their dances. I like her as a person and respect her beliefs but she is boring.
vdw842003 to each their own, I suppose everyone watches this show for different reasons, some people watch the show to see the celebs go on journeys, while others watch it mainly for the dancing. I personally fall into the latter group, I mainly watch the show for the dancing, so in that respect I think Candice was more deserving to stay longer on the show than Nene, Drew, Diana & Billy Dee, even though I did like Drew's personality. But of course Candice is also by no means 1 of the better celeb dancers, there were still a few other better celeb dancers. Even with the nature of the show as being a 'dance' show, sometimes the viewers become more drawn to the personalities of the celebs rather than the dancing, which is why sometimes the celebs who do win are not always the best dancers from their respective seasons. Sometimes it's not just about the dancing, and Candice was lucky she attracted alot of fans who love her for her personality & voted for her religiously. But for someone like me who mainly watch the show for the dancing, it's always disappointing to see good dancers being eliminated before the worse dancers, which is why I am still mad that Candice was in the finals instead of Charlie & Danica.
I really like this show and I'm not trying to be a hater but I feel like they should have acknowledged Jane a little more and tried to bring her into the conversations, asked her for her opinions more, etc.. It seems like she was a little left out. On a different note, stoked that Chelsie will be on next week!! Now they just need to book Oksana from the old troupes!
Jane won a set visit through a charity auction. She was not a guest on the show…meaning she was not supposed to be on-camera. We included her for fun from time to time. We all had a great time with her, so let's not stir up any controversy on a wonderful day for a wonderful cause. Thanks! :)

I agree that Candice Cameran has a very sweet and likable personality BUT she is a terrible dancer! she is definitely not better than Nene! they are both terrible but at least Nene looks more comfortable and actually moves her body. Candice is too stiff and awkward.
I think she is better than NeNe. NeNe is not very sharp with her moves, and most of her body moves with her. I am glad Carrie Ann said that she needs more technique.
ogga I think it's more or less even between Candice & Nene...although both are not particularly good dancers, but they both have strengths & weaknesses to their dancing, and both have advantages & disadvantages over the other. Although Nene is much more natural mover & is more comfortable with her moves, but Candice has sharper & better technique. So it really depends on which perspective you look at it...if it's performance wise, then Nene I think is the better performer because she moves very naturally & she seems very comfortable when she dances, she had been very consistent with her performance. But in terms of the actual technique, then I think Candice is better, because her technique & moves are much sharper & precise. with Candice, it's really a mind game, she was not consistent, there were times when she was confident and other times when she's very insecure and that affected her performance, but when she was confident in herself, she was actually quite good...so it really depends on her confidence levels.
So overall, I think Nene is the better performer, but Candice is the better technical dancer.
You really have nothing positive to say about Charlie´s dance this week? Nothing at all? Am I really loosing all perspective, being a fan of his?
I will speak for me…it was good, not great for Charlie. Last week was killer (one of my favorite dances this season) and he should have been scored much higher. He's an outstanding dancer, but I agree with Carrie Anne…I'm ready for a big surprise from them. I think we will get it next week with the Paso. I'm not worried about him.
I actually liked charlies dance. It was the best cha cha cha of the night, imo. My only concern is that maybe he could have hit harder with his moves like sharna. Sharna was dancing hard and charlie went into his usual skater moves in some moments. Im glad he's got paso next week maybe we can see that hardness comeout.
I'm completly bias with Charlie, and that's why I can't state with impartiality. I loved it, it was the best cha cha cha of the night, and 10's should be lifted. I mean, at least 2 tens would be great. But as I said, I am pulling for #teamcharshar so, I have to take others opinions....

That Mary Poppin's routine was one of the best I've ever seen. Really complicated footwork and talk about high energy. Whew.
I was astounded there were no 10's.
Additionally, I agreed w/ Meryl about their Samba scores. If the judges wanted to give '9's', fine... But when CAI states 'they dance as one person' and then gives a '9', it did seem the comments didn't 'match' the scoring. Furthermore, I'm not sure what more could have been done in a routine which is a sexual style which had to be de-sexualized as the male lead was 11 years old, lol... and to music which wasn't uber 'samba-ish'...
Judging is so weird this season. No pattern…so random and uneven.

Candace is not a good dancer why are you all riding her too much? Nene isnt a good dancer either but she has one thing candace doesnt confidence. If candace gets voted off it will be fine because really she want make to the finals. She isnt good enough. We all know who has the lock on the finals so allow the ones that are no good be picked off one by one.
I think rather nene could dance or not is irrelevant. I just think she has too much of a strong personality to be on dwts. The demographic of this show is so much different than what she is use to. You have to pretty much be sweet and clean like meryl or charlie to get any recognition. People like sean avery and nene are not dwts cup of tea. There has never been an edgy person to win this thing and probably never will.
I agree some 'stars' seem a bit misplaced. I feel the choreographers and judges on this show are world class. They know what steps moves, timing etc. make up the different dances. This competition is in a class of it's own. Brawlers and screamers aren't the norm! As you say the sweet and clean do much better. I appreciate your comments.
