AFTERBUZZ TV -- Dancing with the Stars edition, is a weekly "after show" for fans of ABC's Dancing with the Stars. In this show, hosts Kristyn Burtt, Suri Serano, Anna Trebunskaya, Jake Dupree, and special guest Shirley Ballas discuss episode 11. Dancing with the Stars is a reality show airing on ABC in the United States. The show is based on the British BBC TV series Strictly Come Dancing and is part of the international Dancing with the Stars franchise.

Fantastic. Shirley is a great guest. I really believe that I will not remember who wins this season as much as I will remember Mark;s choreography from this season. She was spot on regarding Halloween, but his genius was not just for that night. He has killed it every week. The Halloween number was an 11 in choreo.

Halloween was great, but their Adam and Eve number I will definitely always love and remember. The way they used the apple and rolled a none spherical object and tossed it to each other... just amazing. I love how he is so considerate to her and her beliefs and morals. Simply perfect.

No idea why you guys are blasting the Ballas'. So what if Shirley is passionate for her son? It would be more shocking if she weren't.
And to those who said that Mark is privileged and has massive ego: did you forget who he's partnered with? Of all the contestants remaining, Mark's partnered with someone who's conservative and restricted in her actions. You'd think if Mark is privileged he'd have ignored Sadie's requests and just phone it in. Who's gotten more conservative contestants on the show? Methinks that says a lot about Mark's personality above all else, huh? It's a testament to Mark's skills as a teacher and choreographer that he has gotten all of his conservative partners all the way to the finals.
If you look Chuck, It's for the most part the same people that hate anything Ballas/ Hough, And I agree that is her son, And she is gonna stick up for him. She has trained more World Champions than anyone, Not just Mark or Derek, But many that have passed through DWTS, That would include Val and Tony. She even called out Derek on his Trio that it didn't have enough proper content, although I thought it was pretty darn good, Would also agree that I feel Mark knows how good Sadie is and how well she is learning and preforming and get's upset when he feels they get underscored, and the Truth be told many if not all the Pro's have gotten mad over the judges scores many times and have said something, But people are gonna hate just because of there name so what are you going to do.

Agreed. No idea how they saw Mark as privileged. Out of the remaining contestants Mark (and Peta) has the most challenging contestants. Sadie is a good dancer but her beliefs get Mark to be innovative in his choreography. Can't say the same about Bethany or Janel.
As to Derek's AT trio I do feel that it's more of a paso feel in it, and there's a noticeable lack of sensuality and passionate chemistry imo. The choreography is very good though, as expected of Derek.
I was concerned that Shirley would sound "sour grapes" about Mark and Sadies scores because they have been vocal about how low they have been. I found her comments to be respectful and I actually think she explained the feelings behind the comments of the family. She feels that it may have an effect emotionally on Sadie and , at 17, it might be a little harder for her to accept the criticism. I felt she concentrated her comments more on Sadie than on Mark.
I think she is a class act and I most give so much credit to Mark for his creative choreography and his partnership with Sadie.
I think they will win this year and it will be much deserved.
Loved Anna's comment on Bethany. I feel like Bethany is a good student.
as a fan of bethany mota I was in tears because thats a side of her i have never seen and it made me sad to know that we did not see was hurting at one point and i just wanted to hug her so much
I can see why Shirley Ballas is so requested. I love her. She has great insight. She speaks her mind and she's never a jerk about it. Just amazing. Make her a judge on the actual show.
For Lea, it's such a shame we didn't see more of the standard lyrical dances from her. I honestly think her foxtrot was her best (ballroom) dance. They would have been awesome. I would trade the Broadway and Jazz for a waltz or rumba. I do agree that their partnership got weird after the switch up.
Completely agree about Derek, Bethany and Tony's dance. Though I'm not sure how a trio for Argentine Tango would have ever worked. I wish they got a different style.
I didn't even have to read spoilers to see who Witney picked for the trio, but it was great. Loved it.
Alfonso and Sadie's trios are tied for my favorite.
I really hope Alfonso, Sadie and Janel are the top 3. (Which naturally means one maybe two of them will be in it)
I agree about sadie and alfonso. The 3rd place is a wild card.
Last season, when both mark and derek made it to the finals, I lost all hope. No way maksyl would loose with the ballas/hough votes split like this. Sadie has a real change of winning if bethany doesn't go into the finals. I know derek's fans will have mark's back and that combined with the conservative votes may be enough.

I hope the NASCAR nations transfer their votes to Sadie. Michael and Emma all tweeted their support for Sadie after their foxtrot trio and we all know how far Michael has gotten.
I agree, I am so bummed we never got to see Lea do a rumba or a waltz. Such a shame. It's almost like they gave her all those latin style dances on purpose.
I love Janel and Val, every week they've stepped up their game. She truly is very talented and even though she has improved every week, this week in particular was when I really felt her star potential. She's a lovely girl and any hate towards her is frankly uncalled for tbh. Agreed with everything said this week, I loved Shirley in this ep. I hope to see Alfonso, Janel and Sadie in the finals.

I hope Janel goes home next week....Frankly, I was PRAYING she was going home the week she got immunity and I'd be WILLING to bet money that she WAS the one going home(the producers KNOW before the show airs and tells the judges how to vote..hence Kristyn's remark about the 'hands in the cookie jar'., THAT'S why her imperfect duo was overscored, therefore saving TPTB Precious Vajanel :/ This season is SO overly scripted, IT's RIDICULOUS! I don't care WHO wins so long as it's not JANEL!!
I thought the Romeo and Juliet piece was breathtaking and moving. I'm not trying to disrespect your opinion but why do you hate Janel and Val so much? I may not like them but I don't know them so I have no right to judge. I actually have met Janel and she's a wonderful, sweet, kind person and we had a nice conversation. Janel is one of the best in that group so I think she deserves to be in the finale

It is a strange thing that on a dancing show the hosts are the superstars but it is true for me. Tom Bergeron and Cat Deely are just fantastic at what they do.

I know some people are on Shirley for being biased towards Mark, but come on. I think EVERYBODY knows that Paso was underscored. Easily the best dance of the night, and one of the most memorable dances of the entire show.

Oh Jake, you have perfectly analyzed Leah in this competition. As soon as wonderful Tommy was announced safe I desperately wanted it to be Janel going home, but knew Leah was a gonner. She's not a cougar in real life and shouldn;t feel the need to be one to win on this show. She is an elegant woman! a Jennifer grey who doesn't need to wear a leopard onsie to be queen of the dance floor.
As much as I hate to admit, Jake you are right about Janel as well, she started too overtly sexual and flirty and its annoyingly become more "sweet". Fingers crossed for and Alfonso,Sadie,Bethany,Tommy Finale!!!!
I agree. I wanted lea partnered with derek when I found out she was going to be on dwts. And then shw got artem, which is ok... the switch up challenge, I voted like crazy for her to get derek but val came along. Grrr... Jennifer grey was the most elegant dancer of dwts, and lea Thompson should stand with her. But it doesn't. Artem just pushed her to be that instead of working around her strengths. I feel a bit disappointed with artem. He had a "maks" approach to this. I wasn't expecting it cause on scd I he usually played the game well.
I am really proud of Janel for growing and changing! She has made such great progress!
Jessika c i agree, Artem and Lea just didn't really click. The Cougar thing was overdone and really overshadowed her abilities. I think Artem has to take a lot of the blame for the over sexualization routines. He's the choreographer, right? Jake in particular seems to give him a pass on that.

Great show today guys. I generally agreed with Jake the most but I loved hearing what everyone has to say.
Jake was amazing this week. I really appreciate the deeper analysis he gives, rather than the "loved it, I have nothing else to say" type comments.. His thoughts on Lea were really interesting and, I think, right on point. I'm glad she was the one to go. I found her really awkward and she hasn't improved throughout the season. That said, her trio dance was her best dance yet, so good on her!
Sadie's trio dance was amazing and the highlight of the night for me. She looked like a pro, and I really appreciated the return to classic ballroom costumes/styling. DWTS has been getting a bit too....trashy this season sry2sy.
I wish Derek and Bethany's Waltz had been longer, he seems like he's really great at dancing Waltzes but for some reason he keeps getting them in weeks where the dances are super short.
Alfonso is still middle of the road for me. I know he's supposed to be the front runner but I'm just not in love with his routines (except his samba and jive). I kinda hope one of the girls wins. It would be nice for Val to win with Janel, or even Sadie and Mark. As a diehard Derek fan, I'm not convinced Bethany is amazing enough to win yet.
I think Derek is holding back Bethany's ability..he tends to do that...especially with the semi-finals on Monday. I LOVE what Jake said about her. Bethany's the Dark Horse here.
kaknurse I hope so!! I think she could definitely be the dark horse if ....idk her hip action is what's lacking for me. Everyone focuses on her shoulders, and that's valid, but I don't feel like she's connected her core and hips to a rhythm yet. If she could get that final puzzle piece in place, she could totally take the win. I guess that's the strategy of it though. I've seen everything I want to see from Janel and Sadie, they just have to maintain. Bethany is the one I'm waiting for, and if she delivers at the right moment, I'll be so happy that I'll vote for her haha.
faithslayer500 Well ,they're dancing a Samba and Contemporary on Monday night sooo we shall see. I expect a STELLAR contemporary routine...Derek's the KING of them, if you ask me.
kaknurse Ooh that's good! Samba would definitely give her the chance to get the hips moving. I love his contemporary routines too. Kellie's freestyle is still one of my all time favourite routines. It should be a good week for them :)
Bethany and Janel have both kinda/sort of grown on me these past two weeks. I was pulling for their pros, but I've been enjoying them and as much as I love Tommy, I'm hoping he doesn't slide his way into what could be a crazy amazing finale. Either way tho maybe this season won't end up a complete blah.
I love Shirley, she is such a constructive and warm person! She should not be a judge as long Mark and Derek are pros on the show. Neither should Julianne. You should not judge your own family and friends. I am a teacher and I am of course not allowed neither to teach nor grade family members, that being my children, me nieces and nephews.
I agree with you Kristyn, i thought the same thing regarding Lea. As soon as they started to call the first name, I said Tommy is going to get called as I know he is quite popular and have always felt he would go far. And then I was like, oh no that means Lea is going home. Simply because the three young girls have a HUGE fan base and obviously Alfonso is on top.

kaknurse why would she say the same thing about Whitney? she wasn't actually taking about the fact that he has blonde hair and blue eyes, she was saying that they give Derek special treatment because he is a favorite. the "blond hair blue eyes" comment was her little subtle way of referring to Derek without using his name. they certainly don't give Whitney special treatment.
When Tom announced that Tommy and Peta was safe right at the beginning of the show my reaction was the same as Peta's. Peta's reaction was amazing. It had me ROFL. And Erin Andrews "Can we get Peta some oxygen over there" had me dyeing.
Peta acted like she had just won the whole show haha! I love how grateful they are to get through every week!

So...Derek didn't put enough Argentine Tango in his AT, but then you have Val who totally stole his idea from Derek and Mark from season 15 and it actually really didn't have enough content, but you won't even comment on that? Well, that's funny.
Valerie Williams So a real tribal dance is that you put your vagina in front of someone's face? Interesting. The idea is still stolen and no, I disagree, I think that their perfomance was out of this world and they actually had some samba in it ;)
Valerie Williams You are ridiculously funny :)))))))) Derek came up with the idea in the All Stars season, and Shawn was 10 times better than Janel. I understand you have favorites but try to keep it real. There was nothing original about that dance, Val is a great choreographer but that concept was Derek's all the way. Deal with it!
I was kinda surprised you didn't notice song used in janel and val's salsa with keo was the same song in sytycd used as a samba dance by marlene and marquet (choreographed by louis van amstel)
of course mom ballas will defend her son , i mean its him mom soooo....... but dont go bashing on others to defend your son , seriously, like critizing the judges too ? not everyone agreed with mom ballas , but they chose to stay quite because its mom ballas ............ ok that fair commenting
I feel like that Shirley women have her favorites just like they do on the show. On top of that it kinda piss me off how every one was going along with everything she was saying even tho you can tell that they was totally was about to say something else.Some of her comments was bias and the other shouldn't have let her opinion cloud their own.
I feel like the afterbuzz crew kind of always goes along the lines of what the guests vibe is. I prefer pro/troupe guests because there's no hierarchy like there obviously is when you have someone like Corky or Shirley on. Anna and Suri both kinda looked like they had some opposing views, but didn't/couldn't speak them.
stilltomsfriend I liked Shirley and Corky better. The troupe guys never say anything negative. Jenna, Sasha and Henry all said good things about every dance. They can't really say their mind because they are on the show. Toni Basil was another person who gave honest opinion because she wasn't part of the show.
folamzz1 The reasons I like the troupe pros better is purely because I feel like the afterbuzz crew say whatever they feel when they're on. I'm not getting the same vibe with Corky/Shirley. If you notice, a lot of the times they ask what their opinion is and then they all just kinda nod and agree, except Anna, bless her, she tries. And Toni, if I'm remembering was actually really good overall.
stilltomsfriend I just find the troupe shows boring. Sasha's episode was the most boring episode ever, he said nothing. I actually feel the afterbuzz crew say what is in their mind when they have non troupe people are on the show like toni, shirley, corky and sergei. They can't really go negative when the troupes are around, because that puts the troupes in a bad spot. Henry tried last week when he called out CAI for picking on bethany, but he too loved every dance. My only problem with Corky and Shirley is they both failed to criticize Tommy who obviously sucks.
In fairness to when they had troupe members on its is harder to make negatives comments about people you see everyday cause you know the amount of work that everyone is are putting over the space of the week
Really frustrating being a Janel and Val fan and watching these. You guys spent more time talking about Lindsay than them. What do they need to do to get a little more recognition? And I'm actually shocked all of you agreed that Tommy should still be around... I guess I'm the only one who fast forwards his dances at this point.
I honestly do agree. Tommy can be somewhat entertaining but I want to watch a dance that is amazing just like Janel and Val's Romeo and Juliet dance. That dance was moving

After this week's show, I have no idea who is going to make it to the finals, They are all so close, If we go by pure dancing then we have to say Tommy would not, But he is just so much fun to watch. On another note how can a couple get ten's and have miss steps, and others make just the smallest miss and they get called out with that "Oh I have to take the point because you missed a step", I have no problem with the judges taking a point for a mistake, But if you are going to do that It has to be for everyone, just saying.
Yes, that must be the first dance that got all 10's when even Saide herself admitted she blew part of the routine. She covered well but it was there and still got 10's. Alfonso has been flawless so many times only to get 9's or even 8's. The show producer's push some and hold back others. When I first started watching a friend told me it was rigged and yes to a certain extent it is.
439tab Sadie got shook up because she knew she had made a mistake. For all anyone knew at the time, it could have been just the tiniest flaw. (It took me a couple replays to see what happened.) But considering how this girl has been nitpicked by the judges (and many social media commenters), it's understandable that a mistake blew up in her mind as a major calamity (that's how teenage minds work!). The scoring is said to be based on each individual's progression and expectations of the individual's potential. For a girl who had no prior training or experience, she's done remarkably well. She's not perfect. NONE of the stars dance perfectly. NONE of the stars can attain perfection in 2 months of training. Sadie has generally not been given scores that take into account the high level of content and difficulty that she's been performing so well. And I think it speaks well of both Sadie and Mark that they're not resorting to "dumbing down" the performances.

What Sadie has accomplished, particularly when you consider the low scoring and absolutely bully like things being posted on social media, what she has done is nothing short of phenomenal. Absolutely no dance experience. No question in my mind that she is this season's most naturally talented dancer,

My comments where not about the Sadie and Mark trio dance, But lets talk about it, Not even the judges saw her make a mistake, Only she and mark new that she did different steps at the very end of there dance, If you watch it and are honest about it, She did not blow anything really, She only did something different than what the ending was suppose to be, But there was NO missteps, stumbles or anything else to take a point or more away, It matters not that she forgot the ending steps to the routine, what matters is she did steps on her own that fit the routine, and this would not even be an issue If she had not said something.
Ron Martin WOW, thanks Ron, you really set the record straight with this post. The fact that she recovered and on the fly while creating similar steps is further indication of just how accomplished a performer she has become in just 2 months. She just gets it. I've also watched this a number of times and her recovery was so seamless that I can't detect a miscue and I am specifically looking for it!
Bless you shirley shes so great to listen too she has every right to defend mark and sadie last weeks halloween score was ridiculous and i agree with everything shirley said and the scoring was ridiculous this week i think bethany got nit picked on things that werent necessary it never should of effected her score there trio dance was underscored it was a 40

My poor Lea taking so much abuse. I don't think it is all her fault. Had she been paired with Derek or even Tony, she probably would have had a completely different journey. I love artem but I feel bad for Lea cause I thought that she felt she had to act that way when she isn't like that. We saw that with Derek and Jennifer Grey, so the lack of expirience might have hindered Artem. I agree that I LOVE shirley but I don't think she would be an objective judge when it comes to her son. I felt that way in this episode and when she was on last season talking about candace.
Come on, guys. How could you keep on talking about Tommy going far in the competition??? If he doesn't get out next week, it'll be sad. All the other 4 have increasingly more dance ability and it will just take away any credibility this show still has if he stays any longer. Tommy and Peta are great people, and she's clearly a great teacher, but come on.
About Val and Janel getting some 10's, I thought it was fine considering Charlie and Sharna got a similar score for their week 5 Mary Poppins dance. The error was small and not related to the dancing ability of the contestant.
So who do we like for the Finals, Alfonso, Sadie, Janel or Alfonso, Bethany, Janel or Alfonso, Sadie, Bethany?? I think most would agree that Alfonso will be there, Who the other two will be is up for debate but I will say that I like all who are left and will not be mad with whom ever moves into the finals.
Watching you guys all saying the same negative stuff about Lea was very off-putting. You all kept repeating each other. I really enjoyed Lea this season and wished you would have talked about her more positively.
I too enjoyed Lea. In fact, I loved the samba. She doesn't look her age at all since y'all seem so concerned with the fact she's 53. funny how Tommy doesn't get attacked for not acting his age.

I wanted classy dances. Jennifer grey pulled of an amazing samba wearing pants and a white shirt. Her cha cha was amazing, so was her argentine tango. But her rumba was the most beautiful rumba I ever saw on dwts.
Lea just tried so hard to be sexy all the time. She is not a cougar. She is married and has grown kids. I believe that the producers wanted the sexy dances, but we'll miss ouy on watching her dance a rumba or a Vieniesse waltz, tango even the quickstep. I only recall one ballroom dance for lea, that amazing foxtrot. And That is a real shame.

ChuckRazor mark and lea! Why didn't I think about that! But I believe that with the kind of experience lea has, mark could bring her up there with kristi yamaguchi. Not that candance was bad, but she was a complete novice.
This Afterbuzz was the first time I have left the show not liking any of you. I have to say I have been listening/downloading/watching you all since I found the show last season. I even went back and watched DWTS Season 16 and 17 so I could watch the Afterbuzz shows. You all have made watching DWTS so much fun for me. I even watched SYTYCD for the first time this summer because of Kristyn and Jake. I cannot believe how harsh and downright rude everyone was toward Lea. Did you all think her costume was too short because she's 53? Her woman parts were not hanging out. Janell had on less than Lea and no one mentioned her costume. Shirley kept saying that certain people were good, clean girls with morals and everyone kept mentioning that Lea wasn't tasteful. And you all hinted that she was being fake. I think you all "went in" too hard on Lea. I was so shaken by the comments, I just left this show feeling damaged. I like the Afterbuzz show because its fun and entertaining, not mean.
I personally am not liking this season of DWTS, I actually forgot to watch Monday night's show, but watched the After Show on my way to tap class. I am not a fan of this new producer and his fantasy sequences and packages. I don't mind the show being "produced", I just don't want to be able to tell that its so produced. This season just feels VERY produced. Did I mention how produced I think this season is?
I agree about the "good, clean girls with morals" comments. I found that very disturbing--as if others on the show who dress differently or dance differently are bad, dirty girls with no morals. As to Lea's outfit, I thought it looked like something Cyd Charisse might've worn back in the day.
THANK YOU. I was completely shaken by their comments about Lea. It was just vile. Blatant ageism, and there is NOTHING on Lea that "hangs out" in any way. The woman is fucking gorgeous and has a figure to die for. Who CARES how old she is?! She owned that outfit!
The finals should consist of four people who can actually dance - Alfonso, Janel, Bethany and Sadie. I like Tommy but his dancing skills are so far below the four others, the semi finals should be his last hurrah.
Artem is the pro and he let Leah down. The choreagraphy was not appropriate for her all season. I know you like the Ballas's but I find their oh so obvious prosletyzing for Mark to be too much. I almost feel like you should have everybody else's mother and father on to give fair treatment to them. Yes, she was lucky to get Alfonso but her routines have been creative and played so well to his strengths. I agree Bethany has impressed with her growth and she is now a contender.

439tab LOL….it's okay! I open my big mouth every week on AfterBuzz. :) If you are interested in Mindy, we had her and Lindsay on AfterBuzz for our SYTYCD show this summer. Mindy is very frank and just killing it with tons of great talent with fantastic training at her studio.
Kristyn Burtt I actually did see that show. I follow SYTYCD also and you do a great job there as well. Mindy is just as passionate about her group of dancers as the Ballas's are about theirs. Inevitable I guess that you are not going to be objective when someone you are close to is being judged.

I think it's crazy that Tommy is still there. Everyone seems to think he's so entertaining and fun to watch but I'm just over him and his act he puts on every week. "I got high so much my memory isn't good" "I'm 70something so I can't handle the same amount of dance steps of the younger dancers" " I'm a dirty horny old man but my comments are okay because they make people laugh uncomfortably" I'm over it. He should've gone home by now. I really hope he doesn't make it to the finals.

kaknurse I don't believe the millions of votes for this guy. It's the producers doing their manipulations. As low as his scores are, there can't possibly be that many burned out pot heads left to vote for him. It's all a freaking sham.

OMG....Even my shero, Shirley Ballas, has bought into this ridiculous farce called Tommy Chong in the semi finals. I am just amazed at the abuse heaped upon Lea and the love for this guy. I can't believe that people like Anna and Shirley would try to legitimize such unfairness. I usually come away from DWTS Afterbuzz feeling educated but not this year. The Chong and Waltrip justification comments are just bunk. U might as well do away with dance scoring and apply the old, nice guy rules. sheesh...
On another note, it was nice to hear the great observations regarding Sadie and Bethany. They have really come a long way. Even Suri has finally "connected" with Bethany.

It's a TV show and Tommy provides entertainment. I enjoy him. Should he win? Nope. But remember, the producers LOVE the drama a wild card like Tommy brings to the show. He has bumped off Lea, who was a beautiful dancer….will Tommy be next to go or will there be another big exit? The show is highly produced, so I say anything goes at this point.
If you want a show where they are just judged on dancing then watch SYTYCD and there is a lot of politics in that show also. Not to mention judge's comments made to influence ratings and interest in the show.
439tab I understand this is not a pure dancing show and neither is SYTYCD. Popularity does carry as much weight as talent. Judging anything is inherently subjective and discriminatory so there will always be some disagreement. My issue here is that these so called experts are not judging Tommy on his dancing but on his style, likeability and his age, while everyone else is being judged on the dance. Come on, that guy has not scored out of the 20s all season, yet he's a semi-finalist??!! I can't believe he is getting the level of voting to overcome that much of a deficit in scores. I understand pushing popular, not so talented people early in the competition, but not at this point. This is where we usually get it right. For the most part, when I look back at past seasons, the final 4 or 5 generally deserve to be there as a result of their dancing or there is at least an argument to support it based on their dancing. Not this year, Waltrip had no business getting to week 8 and Chong's score from that week was 29 because he got to dance off with Waltrip! What a set up that was. Sorry, but the unfairness this year is very disappointing, production value or not.
I totally see your side on this. I guess I keep looking at the trends of the last few seasons…Candace (who I loved) outlasting Charlie….Bill Engvall making it to finals, etc.
For a competitive dance show, it's not fair. A Sadie "7" is different from a Tommy "7," but the judges don't distinguish between that. It's definitely a flaw in the DWTS judging system.
I guess we are going with the flow of how DWTS is evolving. There seems to be room for top dancers and one personality contestant lately…and America is voting for this.
I like a lot of Marks dances. But this season, he's forced the focus off his partner and onto himself. It's not about him and his ego. The paso was danced poorly. The Adam and Eve dance was a mess. He should grow up and enjoy the show.
Also, Shirley shouldn't talk over people. But lets gooo Jake! Jakes like a cupcake.

Yes I totally saw her photobombing in the back. Ha ha. I know you didn't have time but would have loved predictions for who's going home. I have NO idea. I almost want it to be Tommy because I'm not ready for it to be anyone else.
I have to think Lea took the judges' note from last week After the Bonnie and Clyde jazz dance, they told her she needed to be a "bad ass." I think she was trying very hard to be tough and sexy, but that's not who she is. I have to agree with the comments of the hosts.
I am a huge Derek fan! He's a wonderful dancer, choreographer, and teacher. I feel this season as not been up to his usual standard! He's great, but this season is not worthy of a mirror ball as much as in the past. The only week I really have enjoyed and thought was up to his standard was the Halloween week. His dances are more full of fluff than content. His routines are usually full of content and creativity. Do we not remember when he had the partner without legs?!?!?!? That deserved a mirror ball.... This season not so much!!
I'm much more impressed with Janel and Sadie this season. I hope we can have a back to back Chmerkovskiy victory!

that the Producers manipulate the results---i.e.--telling the judges how to score so that someone they want in the semi's (Janel) get's overscored to make up for lack of viewer votes. It's also why I think Janel got immunity because I'd be willing to bet SHE was the one going home that week and in order to save her, the producers told the judges to give their dance a perfect score, while lowballing others-it was good but not worthy of a 40 as it was NOT perfect. THAT is what she means but won't come out and say and reveal her 'inside sources"..nor should she.

I thought this was a good episode. It was a BIG night with Trios and Americas choice. Artem shouldnt be mad at himself. He did a good job for his first cycle here in the states. He did good teaching Lea the steps to get her as far as he did. I think after Micheal Waltrip left, I knew it would be hard to predict who would win it cause the celebs left are all good. There is one expectation, that is Sadie. During the trios dance, she was messing up so bad that it was obvious. I couldnt believe she got a 40. The way the show has been formatted this cycle, I think she will be in the finals. Will she win it? That is up for discussion.

She doesn't have anything against Derek..at ALL. After the show last night, she was telling me how bummed she was to have missed Derek and Julianne's tour in LA. She wanted to go so badly because she heard how great it was.

Kristyn Burtt well, you wouldn't know it by how she acts & speaks when she's on Afterbuzz! I've seen lots of eyerolls from Anna whenever Derek is mentioned. Like during the Halloween episode, when it was mentioned that Derek had never lost a team dance...lots of eyerolling in that one and EVERYTHING on her face read to me like she has a serious disdain for the man...who's done nothing to her.
mariaann95 If anything, I'd say it has to do with the fact that Derek & Nicole beat she and Evan in S10, back in 2010. Just my opinion.

All the talk of Mark/Sadie being underscored is getting tiresome. If anything, isn't that kind of scoring a sign that she's on track to be the winner? Didn't the producers/judges do the same thing with Hines and Donald Driver--make them wait for higher scores to give them an arc. Mark's doing great choreography, she can dance, she's got great charisma, and the general public seems to love her. I see her pulling ahead of Alfonso--he tends to get overshadowed by Witney in the dances (and I don't think the voting public love her as much the AB panel) and his personality is not as engaging as Sadie's.
Alfonso has been the front-runner and best performer almost every week. I dont think he gets overshadowed at all by witney, in fact I find myself watching him the most in all their routines and you might be surprised but witney has a lot of love outside the AB panel as well as alfonso having loads of fans(check the views on his jazz routine). I would argue the people who would vote for him are also those that sit right in line with the shows main audience. I do agree that mark has been doing well with sadie and she can possibly beat alfonso but I dont even think she's the best out of the females left and thats no slight on her as she's done incredibly well as someone with no dance experience. As far as personality and charm goes though, alfonso trumps all the other celebs barring tommy.
Actually, the underscoring effect can go both ways. It may have worked for Donald Driver but it definitely didnt work for Charlie White last season, so I can see why people would not like that.
callum ramsey I didn't mean to disparage Alfonso--just wanted to point out that it seems to me that Sadie's getting the winner treatment: always dancing last or near to last, scoring to rile up her supporters. I agree that Alfonso is a front-runner and a contestant in line with the show's core demographic--as is Sadie. I think it will be between them.
jorettadrive Maybe that was not your intention but when you make comments like "he tends to get overshadowed by witney" and "his personality is not as engaging as sadie's" thats how it comes across as I dont particularly believe those statements are true. Sadie has done well and been underscored in only a couple of dances in my opinion but in most cases I think her dances have been fairly scored relative to the dance.
I feel like Its only coming across as she has been underscored purely because of the inconsistencies of the judges scoring where they allow for a mistake or someone having less content to pass on one but then dock points off another for the same reason therefore it makes it seem like sadie is being underscored when in truth its a case of the others being overscored
As for the comparisons with donald, I can see what you mean regarding the story arc and where her underscoring might propel her to a win with fan votes but in truth I dont think her fanbase is as large as the football nation that donald had behind him nor do I think she's a great enough dancer to pull off a freestyle like donald did which ultimately won him the trophy over katherine. Not to add that donald's season was probably one of the most competitive in terms of the celebrities' dance abilities where there were 4 or 5 really good ones. This year there is only one really good one(alfonso) and three average to good ones. The one really good one also happens to be the one whose personality appeals most to the shows core audience so unless the others can pull off a freestyle that can trump his and enough fans to beat his, I cant see any of them winning. I do think it will be between alfonso and sadie though where the one with the better freestyle will win.

None of us hated Lea at all. We were disappointed for her. She had the potential to be in the Top 3. I'm bummed that judges' comments got into her head mid-season. Come on, those legs are to die for.
Yes I definitely did not hate Lea at all, and Artem is seriously one of my favorite pros now. I just felt like she did not live up to her potential on the show. She is a great dancer...she just started portraying an image that did not fit her.
